Hi guys,
I'm from India, and I have the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon 650 variant. I have successfully unlocked my bootloader via the official process using MiFlashUnlock tool. I am on MIUI Global Stable 7.3.2.0.
Now that I have unlocked my bootloader, I want to root my device, and I had a few questions.
1. What's the method of rooting. I read that I need to install TWRP. A link to the latest updated guide would be much appreciated.
2. After rooting, will I be able to get proper regular updates? If yes, will it unroot my device after the update? If yes, then what do I do?
All in all, I am looking to root my RN3 and keep getting proper OTA updates and still retain my root access.
Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated.
Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply
Edit: The main reason for creating this thread is coz there is a lot of confusion right now as there are various methods to root RN3 and then there is a different way to do it if you've unlocked your bootloader UNOFFICIALLY.
With all this chaos, I just wanna know what's the correct procedure for me
+1 good question, i also want to know, see complete guide for ppl who unlocked officially ONLY.
You can receive OTA's, and you can download them, but you can't install them.
Also you should flash the official TWRP if you officially unlocked the bootloader. Be sure to download the universal boot image patches from the safe TWRP thread and also you can root from TWRP. When you open TWRP, it'll ask you if oyu want to root.
Use this recovery : http://en.miui.com/thread-282773-1-1.html , then you dont need flash modified boot.img everytime you flash miui roms.
After you flash OTA updates , your root access will be gone, so you need root again from twrp.

Exactly i m stuck here( kind of), cause this installation guide start like this.
" Reboot to twrp.
........
...........etc,etc.
Now it doesn't say how to flash twrp.
That alka.... author thinks/ want us to on twrp preinstalled. Help if possible to officially unlocked ppl
You have to flash recovery via fast boot
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanx a lot for the replies guys.
Well, I wanna learn everything that's related to Redmi Note 3 flashing, rooting, etc.
Like, to install TWRP, why do we need to flash a modified boot.img file? Is this also required if we have UNLOCKED OFFICIALLY?
Also, @justinxfan @ddarshan - why won't it install the OTA? Nonetheless, after downloading that OTA zip, we can install the OTA zip using TWRP without losing any data, right? And then, of course, as you said, we can again gain root access via TWRP right?
By the way, for now, I am not interested in any roms. Am very happy with the current MIUI Global Stable ROM. Just want root access but also wanna learn
It will be awesome if someone can list the differences and what to do after official and unofficial unlocking methods. Few more questions, does flashing any miui rom via twrp after official method will relock the bootloader or it can be done only by edl method? Also, flashing by edl method will remove twrp right?
Seriously guys, please help us out
if u unlock bootloader unofficially ,it will void your warranty but official unlock will not.

+1 for cofface's TWRP. I'm on officially unlocked and rooting works by flashing the latest SuperSU.zip through TWRP. I am not sure if Global Stable even allows root though, since I'm on Global Dev. I can also recommend going to xiaomi.eu ROM when you are unlocked. It's rootable and based on the latest version of MIUI without the chinese bloat. A good filler until a stable version of CM13 is released.
Hello,
Around 9 months ago I tried to unlock, root and install custom ROM on my phone but all the ROMs I tried didn't work properly especially with fingerprint sensor ( I think it was because of unlocking through unofficial way) so I decided to relock bootloader and install stock ROM. Luckily I was successful and my phone is still working but I'm not very satisfied with MIUI after all this time especially that my phone is not getting MIUI 9.
And there is my question. Is it safe to re-unlock the phone? Now I would do it the official way. And are the ROMs working with fingerprint sensor for you?
Thanks in addition and sorry if I made any mistakes I'm still learning English.

It is completely safe by the official method. With the Nitrogen OS rom the fingerprint works perfectly.:good:
Would rooting and flashing a rom on my Curtana device preclude me from being able to upgrade to the MIUI 12 upgrade that is romoured to be released in September? Could there be an advantage to waiting for MIUI 12 before rooting and flashing? Perhaps in a future software update they fix an ongoing bug, or something? I'm familiar with rooting/flashing, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't potentially kneecapping my device before I root/flash. Thanks!

There's no inherent disadvantage to flashing/rooting before or even after the release of MIUI 12 (after, users will start waiting for Android 11 - and round goes the cycle). I would say that the decision to flash would rely on how you like MIUI 11. If you absolutely despise it then you can try a custom rom, if not then you could stay on MIUI. Nevertheless, you can always return to MIUI at any time by flashing the recovery stock rom or the fastboot one. I hope this answers your question. Have a nice day

After you unlock the bootloader and install custom Recovery you can Root/Flash any ROM you want. It won't stop you from getting MIUI 12 Update in your phone. After MIUI 12 Stable version is released you can simply flash it like flashing other ROMs and boom you will be in MIUI 12. Also there are MIUI 12 Ports for Curtana if you want to try MIUI 12 now but Ports won't have much stability so decide yourselves
- Thanks btw

Thanks, I believe I was overthinking it a bit. It makes sense that I could always reflash MIUI 12 or a ROM based off of it at a later date. Do either of you happen to know which method of rooting is the go-to as of now for Curtana?
Just do it! (root & flash)
You just use Magisk to root. SuperSU is obsolete.

1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash custom recovery (LRTWRP seems to be most stable)
3. Flash magisk zip from recovery

Hello. I came here for help. As i no longer focusing for phone rooting, i'm not able to switch back to stock rom for Mi 9T. Currently i have old MIUI 10.5 by xiaomi.eu 9.8.1 . I want to switch back to stock, most up to date version of ROM for this phone. I would like to ask how to do it. I'm pretty sure i need to update my firmware before flashing latest stock rom but i don't know which firmware. Can somebody post here up to date manual with steps how to do it? I also know about some MIUI program for Windows that can help but i saw many times it just hard bricked the device. I would appreciate some experienced user to tell me what to do.
I'm really sorry to ask here for this (newbie help) but as i said, i'm out of it for like 2 years now.
PS: It would be nice to don't have anti-rollback protection (just in case)

This guide should help you. This is for locked bootloaders but the main procedure is almost the same:
[GUIDE] Flash Official Xiaomi Firmwares with a locked bootloader GLOBAL/CN
Hi, in this guide I will show you how to flash different official firmware (Global and CN) without having to unlock the bootloader. DISCLAIMER: Just to be sure, I am not responsible for any bricks or damage to your smartphone. Use this guide at...
forum.xda-developers.com
As your bootloader isn't locked anymore the whole thing is less risky.
