Ok, so today is my mom's 52nd birthday and she is currently using a TracFone running (I think) on Verizon's network but her phone is a P.O.S. Galaxy Core Prime and she hates it.
I bought this phone (Model: LGLS990, Android ver.: 5.0.1, Build #: LRX21Y & Software ver.: LS990ZVE) I just want to know: Can I unlock it for her SIM (As in stay on her current plan but on the LG G3 with those system software)?
She does not care for root so if I have to to unlock, I will and, if so, could I revert back to stock and still keep the network unlock otherwise what she don't know won't hurt her.
Please help, this is gonna be her b-day gift (I hope, if I can do this)
I'm going to assume that this is not possible since there have been 50 + views but not a single reply....

No you cannot. If it was on Verizon's network defiantly no. If on AT&T/T-Mobile then possibly if you run a custom rom for GSM.

[Q]Completed Verizon S3 SCH-I535 Root & Unlock, Question About Different Carrier SIM
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 running Android 4.1.2.
I just completed the xda-dev installation "Root, Custom Recovery, and Unlocked Bootloader for Jelly Bean OTA (4.1.1 or 4.1.2)" showing as updated 3/5/[2013]. I completed all five steps. [Note, I chose to install the CWM Touch Recovery 6.0.2.3 instead of TWRP Recovery 2.4.3.0].
Regarding Step 5 - Restoring your Jelly Bean Bootchain, does this do anything to undermine the unlocking of the cellphone?
When I go to "System Settings" ... "About Phone" ... "Status", at the bottom under "Device status" it says "Modified".
My goal of course was to be able to take this cellphone, install a new SIM card from a different carrier, then use it either on either the "Global", "LTE / CDMA", or "GSM / UMTS" basis.
Before I go tramping around popping in different carrier SIM cards, I wanted to pose this question to the community.
Thanks much.
Remember a Verizon i535 only has Band 13 LTE, so it won't work on many other carriers, (like ATT, TMobile, Rogers, most outside the US).
Band 13 is Verizon only. ATT is Band 4 and 17, Rogers is Band 4, not sure on TMO yet, haven't honestly looked.

T-Mobile Accepts Unlocked Verizon S3 Phones
In going online and speaking with T-Mobile, they do accept unlocked Verizon Galaxy S3 cellphones on their network.
In fact, T-Mobile has a link set up directing potential customers to a website where you can purchase the unlock key for $29.99. I believe once you have paid you can unlock and relock as needed. However for change of carrier purposes, T-Mobile does accept unlocked Verizon S3 phones.
Also, Straight Talk states they accept unlocked Verizon S3 phones. I believe Straight Talk may be using the T-Mobile Lte network.
I would appreciate comments on the above after anyone researches out what I found above, and to correct any errors.
Thanks, Bruce.

Hi,
Bought a Samsung Galaxy SII (SGH S959G) and flashed it, unlocked it (before January 26th (which was legal back then(and I am using Ultra Mobile as my carrier and rooted it.
The thing is that now it's an SGH S959G (Straight Talk phone) that has an OTA update and when the download starts it says it's downloading the new version for this phone, but, when I browse to the "About Phone" section of the settings, it says that the Model Number is Samsung SGH - I777 with a baseband version I777UCKH7, Kernel version 2.6.35.7, Build number GINGERBREAD.UCKH7, AND, when I power on the phone, the splash screen shows that it's an GT - I9100.
Today I connected my phone to Kies and (obviously) showed that an update was available for I777 (Android Version: 4.1.2 / Baseband Version: I777UCMD8)
My hands are itching to upgrade my phone because when I bought it and rooted it I had JellyBean in there, and now I have Gingerbread, but:
Should I upgrade my phone?
I want to keep root on my phone, will it be possible?
Will my phone still be flashed?
Will I loose the unlocking that I did to the phone?, I really just don't like the service at Straight Talk, besides, Ultra Mobile is much cheaper.
Now, one more thing, this phone was not activated on any network when I purchased it (got it at craig list (for those who know what that is)), checked the IMEI number and was not reported either stolen or lost, but couldn't register it with Straight Talk since I didn't have the original purchase ticket from WalMart, so I had to change the IMEI number on it too ... will I loose this if I update it?
Thanks, in advanced, for your help, sorry it's such a long explanation, but just wanted to let you know the whole story so you could get all the facts you need for helping me, and if you need more, please just let me know.
Again, thanks.

For loosing SIM unlock. ...I need to know if you did your unlock by unlock code or you did some other way
.....updating to 4.1.2 ....look in I777 thread for cooked Rom that is already rooted deodexed ...debloated....and TW rom you looking
If you did unlock by code that is permanent. ..other ways that you need post
For showing update on kies...
If you did modified IMIE that is going to be problem. ...be cause your motherboard will still have factory IMIE. ...and from your statement I'm assuming you modified IMIE from some I777 device...
So your best thing is to use. ..cooked rom...

Thanks samprocat, to unlock the phone, first, I downloaded an app from gogle play store that actually stated that it unlocked the phone for me, then I sent the phone to someone to change the IMEI number (I looked my IMEI up on the IMEI black list on the internet but it wasn't black listed but a message kept popping up stating that the phone's IMEI was not registered) so I don't know how they did the IMEI change, except, that they did change the IMEI while the phone had the sgh s959g image on, but could not put on the modems, that's why they used the I777 image.
I know that if the phone gets back it's original IMEI, it's not going to work anymore, plus, I don't know if it's going to stay unlocked either. To tell you the truth, I don't want it to go back to it's original state. If there's a chance for me to loose the phone's unlocked feature, or get back my original IMEI number, then, I'll just stay with the phone this way.
Hey guys. I couldn't get AT&T to unlock my s3 so I downgraded to android 4.1.1 to do the free unlocking method. It worked, but my phone has AT&T apps in it, and when updating it says crap like updating from AT&T server or w/e.
When using ODIN, was I supposed to install the AT&T or the T-Mobile version of the 4.1.1 android?
I figured since it's an at&t phone I have to reinstall the at&t so it doesnt mess up the drivers or anything (I totally made up that conclusion myself).
Also, I don't get 4g LTE now and only get E internet. Do I have to do some settings so the phone cooperates with T-Mobile?
As always, thank you very much for the helping hands.

You're probably going to need to setup the apns for Tmobiles network to work for your phone fully.
It automatically made one called tmobile but I dont know if I have to edit it.
Was I supposed to install android 4.1.1 for at&t or tmobile?

As far as i know you should be fine on the at&t rom, You're just going to need to edit those apns probably.

Now another question comes to mind. Since this is originally an at&t phone, will installing the T-Mobile rom mess it up?
Anyone? Help plz
Hi all.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 currently locked on the T-Mobile UK (Now EE) Network.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Model Number : GT-I9300
Android Version : 4.3
Baseband Version : I9300BVUGNB2
Kernal Version : 3.0.31-2372379 [email protected] # 1 Mon Feb 17 22:21:57 KST 2014
Build Number : JSS15J.I9300XXUGNB5
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm looking to unlock the sim so I can use a different carrier.
This is what I've tried so far....
I have sucessfully Rooted my phone
I have SuperSU, CWM Rom Manager, CWM Recovery, BusyBox Free.
I have tried GalaxSim Unlock and it identifies my IMEI Number and reports that Network Lock, Subset Network Lock, SP Lock, CP Lock & Data Lock are all unlocked & States that "Your Device Is Unlocked", however I'm still locked to T-Mobile.
After reading here on xda I believe this is because of the EFS v2 ???
Is there any way to SIM unlock this at the moment without going through T-Mobile?
Is there another way round this?
Can I down grade EFS? (I don't have any backups)
Happy to use a custom ROM or what ever is needed in order to do this.
Thanks for your help
Kind Regards,
Lee

Not possible I'm afraid only paid code will work on 4.3 and there is no such thing as downgrade efs.But whatever you do I would recommend backing up your efs asap.

Whats the best way to backup my EFS? Have you a link to a how too?
If I purchase the unlock code from T-Mobile / EE and use it to unlock my carrier if I then decide to go and install a custom ROM / mess with my phone, would this affect the sim unlock? I just want to make sure that once it's unlocked thats it, forever...
Thanks again!
Ha I've just seen point 3 in your sig about EFS.
Software
I unlocked my device in these steps:
1. Download a firmware version from Sammobile of your country
2. Search a version from your country with no Branding
3. Dowload it and Odini
4. Flash through Download Mode
Worked for me..

Mmm.. If it was that easy everybody would be doing it perhaps you where not fully sim locked also as far as I know 4.3 can't be unlocked even Galaxy sim unlock dev say's if you are on efsv2 that it is not possible to unlock at the moment without code.
Don't know

I meant my phone was locked. And after some custom ROMs and rooting, go back to stock and so on, my phone wasn't locked anymore. Maybe I've done something I didn't know anymore
So for unlocking where is a reputable place to get a code? (can I just take it to a market stall?)
I have a i9300 locked to UK Orange and I need to get it unlocked.

I've purchased the unlock code form T-Mobile. Currently waiting on there upto 20 days.....
Still wish I didn't have to do this as it's just a bullying tactic to try to force you to renew a contract or go PAYG with them. I completely disagree with this type of mentality of a company.
Thanks for your help everyone.

I have the same issue. Built a S3 i9300 out of bits n bobs and bought just a motherboard on line, which was/is locked to Orange UK, just like you want to unlock it and am having no joy. Nothing works. Installed a stock orange rom, that didn't work either.
Did you get this sorted and how?

are you rooted? If not could you tell me which build number your phone is currently at?
As for Muniz, he's a guy who works on rooting our galaxy s4 =)
the latest build for verizon galaxy s4 ends in OF1. it is Android Lolipop, 5.0.1
his instructions are here.
you'll need root to follow the directions.

from the looks of things , this looks risky . i would rather have a unbricked s4 without lollipop thanks for your help. is it possible to root s4 with iroot ?
It's not really that risky.
best way to root kitkat Verizon galaxy s4 is to use towelroot with NC5 build kernal
Verizon's Galaxy s4 is supposed to be unlocked by default, its just rooting is an option just in case you dont like the look of the s4's lolipop. if you want just complete current stock lolipop build OF1 you can download it here and use ODIN to flash, or just use Samsung kies software.
just so you know if you use the sammobile method or kies method to update to lolipop, you cannot go back down to kitkat. Muniz's method with root allows you to return to kitkat builds if you so desire.
by the way what happens when we flash a rom with carrier to a unlocked phone ?

You do realize that Verizon phones are supposed to be GSM unlocked by default due to some agreement with FCC for their bands?
From here
Unlocking a Verizon phone
Even though Verizon uses CDMA instead of GSM, most of Big Red’s devices come with an unlocked SIM card slot. According to Verizon, its 4G LTE devices aren’t locked and, if you want to bring one of them to another carrier, there is no code needed to program the phone to play nice with it.
However, even though SIM-equipped Verizon phones can be used on AT&T, T-Mobile, or other GSM carriers, the phone will need to have roaming GSM radios in order to make phone calls and send texts in the United States. While most recent Verizon handsets will work just fine on American GSM bands, your mileage will vary when it comes to LTE support.
Even though Verizon doesn’t have an online unlock request, you can call 1-800-711-8300 and request a SIM unlock.

sorry for my lack of knowledge . i didn't know that . i bought it from my friend . i thought it was locked by verizon and he got it unlocked for Indian sims .
well, then the choice is yours, you can root your phone and use muniz's method to allow you the option of going back to kitkat if you desire, or just use normal methods like samsung kies to update normally, which will lock the bootloader so you can't downgrade.
As for me, I'm going to(try to) sleep. 3 AM here X(

well... if it was one of those international versions of the galaxy s4 like the GT-I9500, then you'd probably brick it by flashing a rom for a carrier version like the SCH-i545. or at the very least softbrick it.
I think unlocking phones is something more hard coded than the rom itself. cause, even if for example you have a att phone unlocked, it still has a att rom, and should be able to update the rom while using an att sim
though in your case, I have a feeling whoever "unlocked" your phone never bothered anything other than change the APN settings to that of whatever Indian carrier you were using.
your phone shoulnt have any problems with flashing an update via kies.
check your build number under settings> more> about phone. if they match any of the PDA here, you're on stock. using network signal info app in the play store can also tell you the build number (build ID) and bootloader.
though if your phone doesn't say "custom" when you boot it from power'ed off, that you're probably on a stock rom with no root
