I am a bit confused. Say, I wanted to downgrade from MM to LP and there is no rollback package available and even if there is, I just want to do it manually.
Can I flash boot, Cust, recovery and system from LP and then force update using three button update?
Will it work?
I don't think so, as I think, maybe I'm wrong, that the transition package includes other packages which have partitions other than the general ones like /boot, /system, /recovery, /cust you can see inside a transition package using Huawei Update Extractor Tool.

You can downgrade directly without transition, but from my experience it will give you a major headache. Partitions will get messed and you will have to flash in a trial-and-error several versions of img files until you finally get a workable non-bootloop LP ROM. And THEN flash a full LP ROM.

Go with the transitional package route.
If for any reason you prefer LP, then stick to B190.
But if you like MM, go for B380. The RAM management is way better than B190 and overall fluidness is incomparable. I was sceptical, but now I can't go back to B190. B380 is very close to perfection. Only misses guest mode and faster charging.

In B1xx there was the possibility of assigning a fingerprint to a guest mode, so that only certain apps and features were available, with the same user. For example, guest could make a phone call, but not access SMS or gallery. It's like an automatic "hide me this stuff without even other people notice I requested so".

I have done this and this is NOT the same! This enable multi-user mode, like in Windows. The other user will get an empty, independent system.
In Lollipop the feature was called "Privacy Protection", where you could assign certain fingerprints and PINs to a "guest" account. The guest logged in to the SAME interface as the "owner", but the owner could hide certain apps and albums that the guest could not see. And the hidden apps were really gone from everywhere, as it was non-existing. And the point is, the guest did not know about it.

It's an Emui feature, non-android standard.
If it was that simple it would groundbreaking, but it isn't.
On the other end, it's intended for multiuser purpose. For those who don't have "wife factor" or lend the phone, there's no point.

I'm a youth pastor and send texts to around 80 students about events and things we are doing. I send mass texts to them quite often and the most annoying thing I've run into is the SMS hour limit. I can't remember if it's 100 or 160 but either way after I surpass that number within an hour (only two mass texts to my students) I then see a popup warning after every individual text. I then have to manually click yes after each warning or my messages never send. I found this thread but it doesn't seem to work...

Wow I had no idea there was a limit and I text a lot. Is this carrier specific I wonder?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Mass texting is not the problem. There is a setting embedded in the Android OS that makes a warning popup after you reach a certain number of texts PER HOUR. It is not carrier specific it is within the Android OS settings. any other ideas?
Hmmmmm. Very interesting. I don't have the slightest clue.

If you read the thread I linked in my OP it seems that it is a system warning and not carrier or ROM based.

I just tried it, extremely buggy. Still not pleased that this phone most likely has a compatible sensor, since it was made by Huawei, and Google claims it doesn't have compatible hardware. I would say they are just trying to keep it "pixel exclusive" as long as possible.

I just tried it as well. Doesn't seem buggy at all tried all the different options and all worked great. However, the major caveat seems to be that you simply hold your finger on the sensor (just like you do when unlocking the phone), rather than using a gesture - which is what people were wanting to get.
Yeah, it's not perfect but a decent start. True swipe gestures would be cool, I bet somebody gets something better working.

Lucky. Sometimes it works work well, others it would hang for over 5 seconds or just not do anything at all. It didn't matter what mode I was on. It especially got flakey if I pressed the power button. Oh well, whatcha gonna do. It's a step in the right direction so that's a positive!

I've been using it, both on MM and N (unrooted LG G5), with mixed results... It doesn't seem to be an ultimate kill like you would find with an Xposed mod, but if you fiddle with it, it eventually does the job.
For example, I use a camera monitor app for my kid's room. Occasionally, the app hangs or otherwise needs a reset. The back button kill with the app posted above doesn't completely kill the cam app the first time, but if I launch the cam again and back button kill a second time, it looks like it finishes the job.
It's not perfect, but for a phone that doesn't look like it's ever going to get root (Sprint variant here), it's better than nothing.

App requests superuser. Then it needs permission to location, camera, contacts and others. When you deny, it kills itself.
Tried it on marshmallow, not nougat.
Uninstalled it before even using it, because of the permissions.. A kill-app shouldn't need my contacts info.
I was willing to pay for an app that allows me to use long press kill, but since All in one gestures needs all my private info before I can try it, that one is scratched off the list.
Awesome thread! This has been something that I was asking myself too. Thanks for the tip!

On a positive note, you could consider using a firewall and never allow the app to connect to the Internet... So even if it sees your contacts, it will never be able to send them back home

Hi there all,
So, usually when my phone updates, it resets my Launcher from Google Pixel to default. However, by going into app settings, I can always change this back.
I updated last night while sleeping to 8.1 and it appears that now I have no Launcher setting to change in the app section of the settings.
I really don't like the default Launcher. Is this the case for everybody who updated?
Thanks.
