How to flash a stock LG G5 rom - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi there !
As a LG newbie, I'm a little afraid about rom flash...
I already flashed rom on Samsung devices, Oneplus devices, HTC devices, and that always was in recovery, or with easy to use softwares (Odin is pretty easy, actually).
And there are tons of tuto about those devices.
But right now, I've got my G5 (h850) with unlocked bootloader, twrp and root, but a V10a. And I want to get up to date rom, with systemless root.
Looking for tuto, I'm finding things talking about LGUP and LG Flash, KDZ and TOT, and I'm lost
So can someone link me a explicit tuto to flash my G5 back to a stock and up to date rom, without root ?
The goal is, of course, to get what I want, but also understanding what I'm doing.
Thanks in advance.

You can use a virtual machine, but the tools work only with Windows and afaik there are no tools for Linux

[Q] Is there any recommendation before upgrading to 2.2.2?

Hi! In these days I want to upgrade my phone OS to 2.2.2 [I currently have the V10a-OCT-01-2010].
Should I make any operation on the phone before updating with LG Suite?
Is this a required step to do in order to install the official Gingerbread update in the future?
Thank you
I do not know if its required, but my phone diffidently worked better, smoother after getting the 2.2.2 update. If you stay with LG's OS, and do not get a custom ROM, then you will be able to get the 2.3 update simple and easy, just like the 2.2.2 update (or so I've heard). However, if you put on a custom ROM, you will not be ale to get the 2.3 OTA update - you will have to install a custom 2.3 ROM. For the sake of simplicity, convince, and warranty, I would personally suggest just getting the update, and not ROM'ing your device, at least till after the 2.3 update.
Tho, if I'm misinterpreting your question and you're just asking if there are any pre-update procedures you need to do, then there aren't =P

Upgrading to 2.2.2 in not necessary to get the Gingerbread official update. You can directly upgrade from V10a to Gingerbread when it is released by LG.
And if you want to update to 2.2.2, you can directly connect phone to LG PC Suite and check for phone update. No data will be lost after the update, but just to be safe you can backup your data using the PC Suite backup functionality.
Is there any alternate way to update? one which does not require the use of pc suite. Cause my internet si too slow to download the update via pc suite (having the phone connected all the time) and update
You can update the stock firmware using kdz updater. For instructions on how to use the updater- refer to the following thread
HOWTO] Rooting, Installing -Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007244
I would like to warn you that using kdz updater is a slightly risky undertaking and that you should stick to updating your phone through the pc suite provided along with the phone whenever you are on stock firmware.
Difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 for optimus
Whats the difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2? Anything better??

I have to disagree with you. Updating stock firmware using pc suite is a far safer option than using kdz updater to flash original firmware.

Nothing much practically except for the bragging rights.
Edit - And, LG is supposed to have fixed the sd unmount issues with this update, though many users still report the issue as occurring even after an update.
Edit - lg has also incorporated a touchscreen lagfix into the 2.2 2 kernel.

Have they fixed the touchscreen bug? Heard the touch screen experience is better than previous firmwares.

well I can't update any other way. So this is maybe the only way I can flash official firmware v10e
Well then follow the instructions in the thread I linked to earlier to the word, and you will face no problems in flashing the original firmware using kdz updater.
My suggestion is dont update it. Well, sounds weird right?
I dont feel any obvious fix on the touchscreen lag, and the worse part is, the phone turns out to be laggier than 2.2.1!
when i running with 2.2.1, i manage to get around 460+ with the quadrant benchmark
while with 2.2.2, maximum score i manage to get was only 416 =(
Well, this happens to my phone, maybe others dont have such problem.
I successfully Flashed android version 2.2.2 v10E using KDZ updater
I was unable to do so with the LG PC Suite
this firmware is compiles by some LG engineer called vijay Kumar v10E
the previous one was made by someone called _____Yadav v10b
One major improvement is the app drawer
its much more smoother, also got two new icons to the app list, these are "app installer" and "Games"
the latter is just a bookmark to gameloft games. App installer gives a black screen (maybe its slow, so lets be optimustic)
facebook app icon is changed too.
In contacts, the facebook contacts have a yellowish orange box with an arrow protruding from it instead of the older facebook icon (which i liked )
Hi all! I opened this thread because after two month (since the hard reset) my phone suddenly started rebooting (or quitting itself) twice a day and that gets me nervous.
Honestly I would like to use LG software for 2.2.2 and 2.3, and I wanna start rooting my phone after 2.3 when LG finishes to support my P500.
Have I to unmount the SD from settings before upgrading with LG Suite? How long does the upgrade take?
Does this upgrade stop my rebooting problem? Sometimes I have to unmount/mount the battery to use my telephone again
Thanks to all

than why dont u try it on your phone and get into bricking it as many users had landed into problems using lg pc suite and beside u yourself want the users to follow the kdz guide.STRANGE COMMENT try google and u must even see how safe it is using lg pc suite .

I admit that chances of bricking do exist when trying to upgrade via pc suite. But, for a user with stock android running on his phone and who hasn't fiddled with his phone in any way(root, custom recovery, kernel etc..), the best option to install the firmware upgrades provided by LG would be using the official PC suite provided by LG as the chances of bricking the phone using kdz updater is still greater.
And,if by using LG PC Suite anything goes wrong, you aren't left with a feeling that you have done damage to your phone using tools other than the one officially prescribed for the purpose. Just kidding..
It is in this context that I answered as I felt that the post opener was a person who hadn't customised his phone in any way and was just asking about the firmware upgrade process.
PS: Googling is a good pastime. But, selective interpretation kinda defeats the purpose.
It is funny seeing you tell me about searching the web. This, coming from the same person who after he had visited my thread and sought my help thru PM’s , then claimed to have no knowledge of a similar topic on the forums as exemplified by his opening line “Hi All! After huge search in the forum i found the guides scattered ,so i decided to put it in 1 thread helping all the newbies to install custom rom“ in his own thread on the same topic started a few days later ( an almost exact replica in terms of content but with a few grammatical errors thrown in, I suppose to cause the distinction and also a topic on apps2sd which in my opinion should be avoided in a thread meant for newbies to avoid confusion and more so as there are rom’s with apps2sd built-in.)And when confronted in his own thread , coming up with the lamest excuse possible that I had edited my thread after his pioneering work was posted. Well, I wouldn't go as far as calling you a THIEF & a LIAR, But it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine.
imo kdz is not for the newbs. one needs to read carefully each and every step for performing an update using kdz.
but with pc suite you dont need to know anything.
kdz is definitely a faster method when compared to pc suite.
but in the end even if the phone gets bricked by both the service center guys will not know (right?). you were, anyways, trying to flash official firmware.

How do you expect me to help you if you cannot even follow the simplest of instructions like the spacing of commands? You can't seriously expect me to physically type out the commands properly on your phone.
Don't blame me for your loss. Blame yourself.
And what did I receive in return for my help. A BIG NOTHING. No thanks and no mention of my thread on your copycat thread.
I don't claim to have invented the instructions in my post. I too collected the info from other threads, forums and sites (though unlike you, i had to search different places to get all the info). But, at least I give credit where it is due.

H831 - Revert from nougat to marshmallow?

I have an LG G5 H831 from WIND/Freedom mobile which I recently upgraded to Nougat.
For some reason I don't like the new update and I'd like to revert back to the stock firmware. Is this possible?
I've looked around this forum and I couldn't find anything helpful.
Please help.

I agree. Android v7 is the Windows ME of mobile operating systems. Too many great features removed, excused by positive sounding mumblings and overbearing rhetoric.
If you can find the LG-H831 DLL for LGUP then you can flash a H83110d_00_0711.kdz ROM image (you can find or I can put up for you). I cannot find a H831 DLL for LGUP anywhere though so if anyone has one please let us know.
I'm a complete noob when it comes to flashing LG phones.
Is there a tutorial I can follow?
Where can I download the files needed?
I'm very happy with this phone btw. It's very snappy, works well and the camera is simply awesome!
It seems to me that Nougat is using more RAM than Marshmallow and that concerns me a bit.
I forgot to mention something.
Few days ago I was able to find the KDZ files here, but they were for Rogers/Fido. I was very cautious and I did not flash them.

Downgrading Marshmallow to Lollipop to use KingRoot (LG-K373)

After extensive searching, it's apparent that there is no method to root the LG Escape 3 (LG-K373). It seems KingRoot will provide temp root, but only to cause problems and random reboots. My understanding is that KingRoot will not work effectively with a locked bootloader on Marshmallow.
MY QUESTION: Is is possible to downgrade Android to Lollipop in order to achieve root on this device.
There doesn't appear to be any real community/interest in obtaining root on this device, although with it's recent release as a promotional device on Cricket I would assume more users will be showing up.
Is it simply Android 6 w/ the locked bootloader that is keeping the device from being able to achieve root?
If so, I would greatly appreciate a point in the right direction. Also, if there are any threads I'm missing in regard to this device?
THANK YOU and would REALLY appreciate any help with this device.
does ur device has official lollipop? If yes .

It came w/ Marshmallow 6.0 I haven't even begun to track down the required Lollipop files until I was at least partly sure it would work. I'm new to LG, although I've downgraded with Samsung and Motorola in the past without much issue. I guess the first thing is to figure all of the flash files I'll need.
The real question is assuming I can get it backed down to Lollipop with Rooting be possible?
THANKS!!!!

Thank you for the reply. I am just shocked that every step of the way is failure. What is the most surprising to me is that nearly all other LG devices can get root seemingly without much trouble. Even the flagship phones like the G6 (and even the ability to unlock the bootloader).
If I could just ask an opinion of those out there..... Does anyone think this is something that will happen in the future? (Root), or is there just not enough interest in the device to have a community putting any effort into it???
I've always had higher end phones of which I managed to break and decided to try one of these lower end phones. It just seems like there isn't enough of a community working on them... I would just like to think someone (smarter than me) will find a way to get root??
THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. I thought maybe there were some flash files that would allow me to downgrade. I've been a bit out of the loop for a bit, so having some trouble catching up....I appreciate your help.

Need to downgrade from N to MM

Hey yall! I hope this is in the right place, if not my apologies. I got myself a G5 and I love except i made a terrible mistake...I upgraded the system from Marshmellow 6.0.1 to Nougat 7.0 and my phone has had nothing but problems and glitches. I want and really need to downgrade this phone to 6.0.1 but I have no idea how and id rather not brick my phone. I have been over several forums already on this site and none of them have the same procedure. One says i need to download this another says i dont need that etc etc.I would like to downgrade to 6.0.1 easily and with minimal risk if possible. If someone could give me a clear easy to understand step by step guide that would be much appreciated. I have the Canadian H831 running android 7.0. Software Version is h83120a. If you need anymore info please let me know.

I use android 7 on my H850 and it's smooth, as I can see here, you're using the initial version of android 7 (20a). Have you try to check if there's any newer Nougat version of your model (H831) through OTA or LG brigde or kdz?

You need to download the Android 6 kdz. You can check here for one specific to your model https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/list-lg-g5-stock-kdz-firmware-t3365941. Once you downloaded the kdz use LGUP or uppercut to flash it to your phone. If you're unable to successfully flash it (like it errors out every time), it may be that you can't downgrade to MM from N. I'd try to use LGUP first, but if you can't get it to work try uppercut. Read those threads for instructions on how to use the tools. Feel free to ask more questions if you have any and I'll try to answer. Hopefully this helps.

Here's another source for H831 KDZ files: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h831-firmwares/#more-1685 Links to a number of MM ROMs can be found there. I have no experience with the H831, but I have successfully downgraded from N to MM on my H850 with LGUP. You should be aware, though, that there have been a number of reports of downgrading problems with the G5.
Make sure you read instructions carefully! Downgrades are easy to hard brick aka all bad.

Back to official EU rom?

Hello. I came here for help. As i no longer focusing for phone rooting, i'm not able to switch back to stock rom for Mi 9T. Currently i have old MIUI 10.5 by xiaomi.eu 9.8.1 . I want to switch back to stock, most up to date version of ROM for this phone. I would like to ask how to do it. I'm pretty sure i need to update my firmware before flashing latest stock rom but i don't know which firmware. Can somebody post here up to date manual with steps how to do it? I also know about some MIUI program for Windows that can help but i saw many times it just hard bricked the device. I would appreciate some experienced user to tell me what to do.
I'm really sorry to ask here for this (newbie help) but as i said, i'm out of it for like 2 years now.
PS: It would be nice to don't have anti-rollback protection (just in case)
