terrible battery drain on redmi note 3 sd - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

guys i have a redmi note 3 running stock miui 7.3.6.0 global stable
i am experiencing terrible battery drain on my device
last night i charged my phone to complete 100% and used it foer an hour
with 92% left .
i switched of wifi greenified all the apps and cleared all the ram but still when i wake up i found the battery to be 67
thats a 25% drain overnight. this has become everyday story and even in daytime my battery continues to drain like this even when i dont use it
guys i dont have any kind of data activity running in the background no sync or anything like that but still my phone does not go to sleep
and Android Sytsem and Android are always keeping my device awake
they have a usage of 38-40% always
can someone please help me fix the problem

guys anyone with a solution plz help me out here

Reset to Stock and Check if the Problem persists. If Not login to google playstore and slowly install your apps step by step to check which apps force the battery drain...

Bro plz suggest some solution which does not require resetting the phone
I really don't want to get hassle of backing up the 20gb data
And restoring it back
The only issue is android system keeping device awake all the tym

Try turning off location for a test, see if drain goes away.

Seems like stock MIUI roms nearly always have a battery drain problem for some devices.
Bugs in 7.3.6.0 global stable for RN3 <<< Battery drain.
Normally I would suggest updating your rom, but seems like it is still a problem in 8.0.2.0. Which was suppose to resolve it from 8.0.1.0.
[Discussion] battery drain in 8.0.2.0 .
If your rooted try installing Wakelock Detector. Charge your phone fully. Unplug and see what is reported overnight.

bro if i was rooted then i would have checked for wakelocks but aince i am not rooted i cant d o that
i wish installing custom rom on this device was easy but its very difficult for a noob loke me with no knowledge of twrp and adb
i have never been able to gather the courage to even unlock the bootloader of my phone because official method sucks and fails at 50% and unofficial ones are risky

Bro Lte network consume more power than 2g aur 3g..

bhai everything is turned off
m talkin abt battery drain when device is idle and no app is active
25% in 8 hours is way too much

No choice man, you have to do a full reset and then slowly reinstall apps to see what drains the battery. I would do a fastboot flash using Miflash and then unlock the bootloader to get rooted.
I'm on the latest Xiaomi.eu ROM and I'm getting 10 hours screen on time. With Greenify, I get <1% drop per hour on standby, with full sync running for a bunch of apps.

I am also having this same issue on Xiaomi.eu LP rom.
Resetting isn't solving anything and it's not b'coz of any app that I have installed, it is the system itself that is causing this issue
Last night I full charged my phone and went airplane and when I woke up it was on 89%
I have also tried xposed deep sleep battery saver to no vail
Right now I have no idea on how to solve this, I am looking for a ROM where I could use atleast use the jio4g voice, so that can use jio.

thanx for helpin me out with the suggestions guys
i found some.ways to fix the problem without resetting the phone in this guide
http://en.miui.com/thread-339815-1-1.html
although i had already disabked most of th3 things mentioned in this guide but still point no 4 was the only thing that i had to do and bam
android and android system both dropped to 15% and phone went on sleep
just 2 % drain in 8 hours
i suggest anyone with battery drain problem to once refer to this amazing thread

That's much...have you tried turnig off find me..
location to battery saver.
Ambient display off.
Sync off
Cloud off

Flash using MIFLASH tool and wipe everything off
From my experience, this is the only way to solve problem
I also had extreme drain and turns out that phone wasn't entering in deep sleep mode and was staying awake all the time
I tried several different roms (Cm13/miui), flashed custom kernels and the problem was still there no matter what i did
As i mentioned above wipe everything off, there is no way around

[Q] 60 percent idle battery usage / 15 hours

I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,

OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.

Q Battery usage questions, maybe bad phone?

hi iguys,
i have some questions about the sgs 2
i got it since a few weeks and everything was fine, great battery life up to 17 hours zith light/ normal use.
i tried to flash cwm isecure kernel to flash roms, all went fine
then i found out rom manager is not yet fully compatible with sgs2
so i flashed back to stock firmware, now my battery life really sucks
with little use i can hardly get 6 or 7 hours out of it
and most of the time its just standby
i have everything off bluetooth, gps, wifi, display set to 10 percent, background sync
the only thing i have on is 3g connection..
i have better battery stats installed
and i see these 2 things always 100 percent full.
suspend/events
no matter what, theres no app draining because when i wipe everything to factory settings or through recovery, the drain remains, even with 3g off
also when i check my normal battery history,
i see 2 times android system in the stats, doesnt one need to say android os ? instead of two times system?
sorry if this is a double post, but i searched and couldnt find something similar then this.
hope you can help

You have BBS installed, good. Don't see under Processes but see under Partial Wakelocks, check which apps and processes are taking the max time. Something on background is definitely going on.

Nobody else here to help me ?
better battery stats shows me nothing like an app or process
thats really going crazy..
i really have no clue what i did wrong to get this terrible battery life
hmm i really don't get why though, coz I have an awesome battery life with my S2, i got at least 2 days, with alot of calls n txts in between. I use it for my music player in the car as well, n i travel quite alot.
tried recalibrating the batter?

yes i tried, i also tried to wipe battery bin file through cwm, also with no succes,
my phone is charging now, so i am going to check how the battery life is with CM7 or another rom.
do you have 3g on all the time ?
i also have a question about the connections options, do you have an option to only use 2g ? in stock rom, i dont, i remember having it on my galaxy mini
Update, the new battery i got yesterday seem to have no change in my dramatic battery life,
i flashed CM7 build 38 last night,
and still the same, it drains like hell!

also with better battery stats, i dont see nothing unusual in the stats,
also on top of that i have watchdog task manager installed, i never get any notification from any app going crazy
i almost never use wifi because i have 3g and unlimited internet every month,
sometimes i use the gps, when im done with it turn it off
i cannot get a normal 8-9 hours with normal use,
mostly doing some facebook checking, sending some texts, a little bit of ping, checking the weather..

Battery gauge going nuts. :/

Hii!
My LG G2 mini D620r is 2 and a half years old, and most of that time everything was ok. But, since two months ago, I noticed that the battery is draining much faster than usual. And also discharge wasn't happening continuously, but it had sam jums i.e. I would use phone for some ammount of time, and the battery gauge would show decrease in capacity of only a couple of percents, and then suddenly it would drop couple of percents more for no reason. Also I noticed that phone wouldn't charge up to the max. It would show that it is 100% full, but after only couple of minutes of idling it would drop to 97%.
After all that I thought that there was a problem with the battery and bought a new one. But it din's solve the problem at all. Problem just continued to apper so I came to conclusion that there was no problem with a battery.
I read somewhere that Android battery gauge can go crazy after certain ammount of time, and my phone in quite old.
So my question is:
Does anyone know what is the solution to the aforementioned problem?
Does this problem have anything with battery gauge?
And if it does, can it be solved by reflashing the stock ROM?
I forgot to mention that I'm using stock Android Lollipop 5.0.2, software version V20b-EUR-xx. Phone is rooted.

A few options you can try, cuz i had the same problem on my d620r:
- Calibrate your battery;
- Uninstall/rootuninstall bloatware by LG/google, and apps you don't need;
- Use Facebook Lite;
- Use Greenify and Amplify (ideally with xposed framework);
- You can try reflashing stock after full wipe, but i dont think it will fix your problems;
- Best solution > Flash a custom rom and do all the things above.
I didn't have that problem on stock, but on CM13. I was running xposed framework with lots of modules, V4A in the background and a custom kernel, but still, i don't think that was the drainage problem. I'm still using the battery that came with the phone, and flashing Resurrection Remix Nougat 7.1 by mobiusm, governor on ondemand and greenify almost doubled my battery life since cm13!

In september, I flashed CM 13 snapshot from august, and I noticed some bugs with it so I returned to stock Lollipop. I think that's when the problems started. Since then I have used Battery Calibration app (if you know some better apps of that kind please do recommend), installed Greenify, but not Amplify and removed some of the preinstalled LG/Google bloatware, but not all. I do not use Facebook app at all. After all that it came to my mind to do full phone wipe and maybe that would eliminate the problem.

I'd still recommend custom rom tho, preferably RR 7.1
And if you don't want a custom rom, make sure you are calibrating your battery correctly. By deleting the batterystats.bin file you dont really calibrate the battery, rather you reset the battery percentage meter. That is important of course, but before using the calibration app, make sure to do these steps:
Preparation: Hard reset the phone, root it again, install greenify (and amplify if you want), uninstall bloatware, charge to 100%. DON'T USE THE PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS FOR BEST RESULTS
1)Download Battery Waster and Battery Calibration from Play Store
2) Turn on battery waster (turn off flashlight option, it heats up the phone, turn on data, location and other battery consuming settings)
3)Drain battery to 0% until phone shuts down by itself.
4)When it shuts down, turn the phone back again for about 5 times
5)After those 5 or so times of turning on, put your phone on a charger without turning on (use wall charger if u can, and please use correct voltage of 5V)
6)When your phone shows full charge, unplug it and turn it on.
7)When you get to the homescreen, if you have less than 100% battery, plug in your charger again (without turning your phone off)
8)When it shows 100%, unplug your phone
9) Turn on battery waster
10) Let it turn off by itself
11) Do steps 4,5,6,7,8 again
12) Launch battery calibration app (root), and press calibrate
13) Restart phone
14) Greenify your apps and enable agressive doze in settings
NOTES: If on step 4 your phone sucessfully boots again without immediately shutting down, just continue draining your battery until it shuts down.
TIP: Keep between 40% and 80% battery
Hopefully your battery is like new again and free of its problems, but again flashing a custom rom other than fixing your battery, might even boost it, and custom kernels might boost it even more! (If configured right, that is).
IF YOU DECIDE TO FLASH A CUSTOM ROM, PLEASE DO THIS REGARDLESS
I hope I helped you!
Thank you very much @kasa ssg!
If this doesn't help, then there's no way to help me at all.
EDIT: Finally I found some time to do a recalibration of my phone's battery, and I think it worked. It definitely lasts longer now than before calibration. Also I returned to my phone's original battery that came with it first time it was bought.

In facing this issue too. I'm running on final RR 6.0 with radon + exposed. Usually I got 0.5% or less per hour when idle with airplane mode. Now got 2%-4%. I don't know which couse this. I tried clean flash with RR, cm13, LOS13 but still facing this issue.

If this happens, no matter which ROM you try, it will be either one of the apps installed on your phone or simply a weak signal.
When did the problem start exactly?

And I realize got issue with battery drain so I tried to revert back to rr 20161010 build but still facing drain while deep sleep like 100% to 72% in 7hours (on airplane mode, sync off, google location history off, location scanning off, and deep sleep work well)
sorry for my bad english.

Wipe completely inc.. Internal storage i meant! If there is any problem or softy conflict,, it will die! If I'm not wrong,, the problem is cause of xposed framework(if it is a softy issue)!flash the latest lineage or rr rom with proper gapps package without flashing xposed and reboot! Use it for a few days and tell if it resolved! I would be happy to hear that! ?
If none of the above worked,, then flash stock miui rom with stock kernel! These are the only ways u can fix a softy issue! If it didn't fix,, then it should be a hardware issue of the battery!
battery is taking 6-7 hours to charge from 0-50% even in switch off mode...charger and cable is all fine I checked......it is all after i flashed radon kernel once on miui 8 but it failed and i did a cpean install of miui 8 beta using fastboot....
earlier it was taking only 3 hours to charge 0-100% ..is this problem occur due to radon kernel..any solution???
I think I have figured out the problem. The issue started after recent update of Browser app. It seems to do a lot of background data transfer, and goes crazy when mobile data is off. Have uninstalled it.
Confirmed.
After uninstalling miui browser, the overnight LP battery drain dropped from 60% to 2% while sleeping. The only issue is that I'm so used to it that chrome looks painfully outdated.

Do you have root? You could probably restrict the browser from being so "active".
I root my phones only after warranty expires. Further, with permission manager in place, I never needed to look for rooting miui.

Battery issue - subpar battery life

Hello everyone!
I bought my Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus in january this year. Since then I've been more than satisfied with this device. I was using Resurrection Remix v6.1.0 for a couple months when I started to see that my battery was draining faster and faster... Firstly, my phone could charge up to 98%, then it would stop charging... Then there came issues with screen on time... I was barely getting around 5 hours of screen on time. I quickly wiped everything and flashed DotOS which had even worse battery life for me... Now I'm on MIUI 10 Global Beta and things aren't getting better... As you can see by the screenshots in the attachments, my battery is performing terribly. Moreover, 96% seems to be maximum value for my battery since I can't charge it more than that... Can someone give me an insight of what might be going on with my phone?
Unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms might cause troubles for you and affect the performance.. you should know that.
It seems you are using 4G which drain battery faster than wifi as it appears in your screen.
Check for wakelocks, if [Timerfd] and netlink wakelock exist (with high alarms/wakelocks), then you need to reconnect the battery cable.
i get the same issues on my R5P which i bought back in May. when in install any MIUI rom, it seems that Android System is draining most of the battery.
at first i was getting 5-6 hours SOT. now i struggle to get 3-4 hours with the same usage.
i am currently on crdroid and max battery charge is 98%.
how difficult is it to open the device at reconnect the battery?
i had the same wakelock problem after instaling orange fox recovery and rooted oreo miui 9.
the only solution to wakelocks was to flash with test point method.
it was a very easy process.
for opening the back cover i have used 2 or 3 bits of plastic cutout form water bottle. use scisors for cutting plastic from water bottle.

A recovery has nothing to do with wakelocks in your ROM.

for opening the back cover i have used 2 or 3 bits of plastic cutout form water bottle. use scisors for cutting plastic from water bottle.

After some testing several forum users reached the conclusion that test point isn't needed. Disconnecting battery is sufficient.
Test point method implies disconnecting the battery.

flashed 9.8.1.25 beta
I had to do the test method because I have locked my bootloader by mistake and then got a bootloop.
but the wakelock problem has gone
I dont know if orange fox caused the wakelocks but I got those wakelocks like in the first post picture after using orange fox for rooting oreo miui 9.
After that I tried flashing nougat 9.5.4.0 , formating data, doing all the wipes , factory reseting then restoring my backups with twrp but the wakelocks were still present.
only test point method helped me get rid of wakelocks.

Check for wakelocks, if [Timerfd] and netlink wakelock exist (with high alarms/wakelocks), then you need to reconnect the battery cable.

use wakelock detector app.
kernel option
i had the same problem before, just discharge your battery to 0% i mean take time until your phone won't boot up and then wait an hour, then charge it for maybe 6 hours (i let mine overnight)
and repeat 3-4 times
if that doesn't work try to calibrate your battery/
good luck!
i just took the back of the phone off, disconnected the battery, reconnected it, booted it up and it charged to 100% in crdroid. testing battery life now.
Thanks for the replies. I'll most probably try the testpoint method and tell you if it worked for me.
Regarding the wake locks, app says that my phone is awake almost 70% of the time even though I used for around 2 hours in a 24 hour period... My phone is going from sleep to awake state every couple of seconds...

Tell us your results after testing
Hey.
IDK if this is going to help but here you go:
Yesterday I flashed via recovery the MIUI 10 Global Stable update for vince, working more flawlessly than Global Betas. I have tested a lot of ROMs for vince and always noticed that MIUI even 9 or 10 has worst battery than PE or any other Android Stock rom (8.1) for vince.
With this MIUI update things changed and I'm having the same statistics (or even better) as Android Stock roms for vince, now I've changed some settings before telling you this.
1- Installed MIUI Hidden Settings.
2- Opened Battery Optimization.
3- Selected all the apps that I could optimize.
Did that this morning (around 8 am) and I'm having this SOT.
Note: Mine is only charing to 98% idk why.
Want best battery life, Miui 10 Stable is shockingly best super smooth and best battery ever. The rom.
is even smoothest of all the custom roms i have tried. It is weird but Miui Stable release for Redmi 5 plus is a amazing ,

Thanks For Tips
As Per My Thinking Android System Higher Point for Battery Drain In Your Battery Uses Screenshot That Means Some Inbuilt App Use Battery
Ok so i had some problems with my battery draining fast with very little screen on time about 4-5 hours. What i did is opened the phone, disconnected battery cable, left it like that for a minute or two. Then i flashed the latest global miui 10 stable official stable rom using mi flash and flashed all data. Now my battery is once again amazing like when i first bought the phone! I get about 10 hours sot
So I opened the back of my phone and disconnected then reconnected the battery. While the back of the phone was opened, I did the test point method and entered EDL mode. I connected my phone and Windows installed the needed Qualcomm drivers. I opened MiFlash tool to try to flash the latest MIUI global stable ROM, but it always said there was an error. The error was that it couldn't receive the "hello" packet. So, unable to fix this error, I booted the phone and entered fastboot mode then flashed latest global stable ROM. Battery life improved just a tiny bit. Still getting subpar battery life with around 3-4 hours of SoT. Am I missing something or what? I am unable to believe that I managed to damage my phone's battery in less than 10 months since I don't use it for gaming.
Anybody got a clue on what to do?
