Keeps forgetting settings. - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm new to my phone Z2 (D6503) running 6.0.1 (got it through work), and I've had some slight issues with my phone.
It keeps forgetting the settings I've created and doesn't just reset them to stock, but instead changes them to something completely different.
So far it's deleted my profile picture, changed my lockscreen clock several times and keeps forgetting how to smart unlock my device...
Any tips?
Cheers,
Stephan

[Q] Cyanogenmod not booting anymore

Hello all,
I installed CM7 on my vibrant a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying it.
I ran in to some trouble yesterday and my phone will not complete booting.
I ran adb logcat and have attached my logs. The SQLite exceptions related to settings keep printing in a loop.
I am able to boot in to recovery, so I'm sure I can recover the phone by reinstalling CM7. I would very much prefer not to do this, because I had just now got things setup how I want. Unfortunately, I had not setup Titatnium backup on a schedule, so my latest backup is prior to my CM7 update. Reinstalling would be pretty painful for me at this point.
This is what happend to my phone prior to getting in to this state. Not sure if any of this is related:
I installed a bunch of new apps (google $0.10 promo) including Beutiful widgets
At some point Go Launcher became unresponsive and I had to force close
Go launcher restarted but lost my config/layout, I tried restoring an old config but this was not waht I wanted. So I reset to default
I added a Wifi toggle widget from Beutiful widget to my home screen
Turned wifi off with it,
Decided that it was redundant since I have CM7's widget in the notficiations tray.
Uinstalled the wifi widget
Tried to turn wifi back on with notification tray widget
Wifi would not turn on, went to settings and tried it there and was still not turning back on
Gave up fighting wifi, tried a reboot
Got stuck on CM7's boot animation.
I am hoping to recover my phone's state and would appreciate any help with the following:
1. Any ideas as to what could cause this?
2. Is it possible just to reset only the system settings? It looks like the sqlite db related to settings (if there is one) has got corrupted.
3. Is this the best forum for this post?
Edit: fixed a typo.
Mods, can you verify my account please?

[Q] Phone won't sleep, process won't go away

Hey guys.
Had some trouble on my Z2 and thought I'd create an account here and ask for your advice before I did something stupid. Have no experience with rooting or modding whatsoever, so bear with me please.
I bought a Z2 whose screen never slept. I found out that the responsible was com.sonyericsson.startupflagservice v2, who would always run when I turned the phone on and remained on my notification area with no text, just an icon resembling two blue screens superposed. If I force stopped the process, the phone would sleep normally until I powered it off. When I turned it on, the process would be there again preventing sleep.
I did some research and learned how to flash a different ROM, wipe cache, wipe dalvik... Did all that and the process would still be there. Rooted my phone, bought Titanium Backup and froze the process... it worked fine, but would I reset to factory settings, there was the process again.
And finally I come to my question: would un-installing the process and wiping its data with Titanium backup work? Would I be at risk of bricking my phone?
I'm running out of options on what to do and returning isn't really an option!
Thank you very much!
Phone: Xperia Z2 D6503
Android v: 4.4.2
Build number: 17.1.2.A.0.314
Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide you with in order to find a solution. Thanks again!

Interesting questions... I've also experienced this.
After about 30 mn of waiting, startupflagservice had finished its job (I don't know what it is doing).
Anyway, I don't recommend to uninstall it.
See if flashing the .402 FTF solves this? Maybe it is a random bug in the .314 firmware. I haven't got this process running so I can't comment on it. Have you got power saving features enabled? If so, is the battery drain still bad with the process running?
I know I am asking a lot of questions but there are multiple things that could be causing the issue. When you factory reset the stock ROM, does it occur after you have installed apps or before? There could be a rogue app keeping the phone awake. Install either:
Betterbatterystats (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats)
Wakelock detector (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector)
Hopefully either app should give you a better insight as to what is keeping your phone from deep sleep.
EDIT: Also, according to quite a few lists, that particular thing (com.sonyericsson.startupflagservice v2) is safe to delete. If you are rooted and have a custom recovery, make a nandroid backup (ask if you don't know what it is or how to do so) and then go ahead and delete it using ES file explorer. Worst case scenario your phone reboots/gets stuck in a bootloop or something and you can just restore the nandroid.
Thanks for the replies, guys!
I'll try flashing the .402 FTF next weekend. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to tinker with the phone on weekdays anymore. I have reasons to believe the current firmware is not the responsible though, as this problem occurred on the firmware that came on the phone (don't remember which one it was), and continued after I updated to .314 through the PC Companion.
Answering your questions, Devzz:
I have no power saving features enabled.
I haven't noticed any battery drain, as I didn't allow it to happen... I usually turned the screen off with the power button, which worked... the only problem was the phone not sleeping by itself after the inactivity period I set.
The problem occurs right after I turn the phone on. As soon as I turn it on after a reset and every time thereafter, I'm greeted by a black screen with a big black button that reads: POWER OFF. If I click it, nothing happens. When I press Back or Home, I'm on my home screen with the icon I mentioned on my original post on the notification bar.
I'm starting to think I just had bad luck and got a defective piece of hardware. There's another problem now that didn't happen before the update: the volume of the notifications now is always low, regardless of how much I set on the slider on Settings > Sound > Volumes. I've noticed some people had this problem as well, and I could temporarily fix it by enabling Dynamic normalizer and xLoud on the Sound Effects, although that is hardly an ideal solution.
Thanks very much again for your help! I'll look into the nandroid backup and try that next weekend.
P.s.: another piece of information that I haven't mentioned and may be relevant: I was never able to access recovery mode, despite my efforts to do so. I had to install XZDualRecovery to be able to boot into recovery mode.

I have the exact same problems with my phone not going to sleep and the big "power off" button. What the heck does it mean? Anyone fix this problem yet?

In spite of my efforts, I couldn't find a way to get rid of the problem. Currently I have the phone rooted, installed Titanium Backup and deleted the files related to the process.
It's working, although if I ever revert to factory settings, the problem will be there again.
Best of luck to you and please let me know if you find a fix.

Which process/es did you exactly delete? What are those files for the process are even doing? When did this problem start for you? Thanks
On mine that service displayed a persistent notification and on every reboot it prompted to power off or use phone. Anyway, as soon as I saw that I rooted and froze com.sonyericsson.startupflagservice in titanium backup. Problem solved! As far as I've tried it's not essential and can be uninstalled as well. I really don't get how they overlooked this, it's a huge annoyance for anyone that can't root the phone I imagine.
Solution!!!!!
I had the same issue on a Z2 I bought off a guy. It was on 4.4.2 and it kept saying no update available. I downloaded and flashed the 5.0.2 update via Sony Flashtool. At first boot the issue appear again after a few seconds. It got very intense with the screen becoming unusable. The phone shut itself down and rebooted without the issue. Gone and nowhere to be found. I immediately got another prompt to update to a newer Android version - same 5.0.2 (17MB file).
So flash away, guys!!!

Downloads in notification area labelled <Untitled> and can't find the source.

Hi, recently got my Z3 dual. And after restoring all my data to the phone, I've been getting multiple instances of weird downloads in the notification area, labelled as <untitled>, that persist even when I reboot the phone, and when I click the notification, it just goes back to the home screen. This has happened multiple times since I got the phone, and it's beginning to irk me. The downloads only seem to complete when the phone is connected to wifi. Any ideas what I should do?

[Q] a 'no symbol' icon has been on my status bar for a few days. What does it mean?

Here's a screenshot. I would have cropped it down but I don't have all day to figure out how to do that from a tablet. Look at the top, next to the signal meter: http://i.imgur.com/OLBVoEg.jpg
I recently spent a week in Japan, and this first appeared while I was there. I thought it had something to do with the network over there, but after coming back to the US, it still appears. Whether in Japan or the US, I've had a perfectly acceptable signal, no loss of GPS connectivity, really no loss of anything as far as I can tell. I've rebooted multiple times since it first appeared and it always remains, and never goes away. I simply cannot figure out what that symbol is telling me, and Google has been no help. I've tried turning off and back on everything that I thought might be responsible, with no changes.
I'm running a Nexus 5 on stock Android 5.0.1. I haven't updated to 5.1 yet because I'm rooted and need to get home to my computer to manually flash the update.
I figured out what it was. The no icon means that I've turned off interruptions altogether (I must have accidentally hit something). There's also a star icon which means you're set for priority interruptions only.

Device Secuirty: Unauthorised actions

Hi there fellow S6 edge owners.
my version of Samsung S6 Edge is Hong Kong's G9250, only got this phone two days, ago, I used to have an HTC One m7 and always rooted with custom roms, but seems like Samsung has done a great job this time, I am going to stick with stock rom for now.
Strange things happened to me after I purchase from the store and with the helpful staff from the samsung store helping me setting up this beauty. Not long later after I walk out of the store the Following message from Security Log pops up: "Unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes"
So I restart my phone, thinking it's no biggie, but the message would reoccur any time in between 30 to 2 hours, or when I am updating and installing apps as a new phone. I didn't transfer any old contents, nor having install any apk manually. The rom is stock as it can be.
So I factory reset it, and the same message would keep popping up, I scan my phone using the security app and no threats were found, but I had to restart my phone to make the notifications goes away, I start to suspect there might be something wrong with the rom itself or the kernel, so I decide to Factory reset it in under 6 hours of purchase, after booting on and signing in, the message would come up again!!
So I took it to the store, and asked them have they seen this? One of the manager said you need to cleared the app preferences and clear the credentials. I also updated the security policy myself. but still no luck. So they gave me a new one, with in 20 minutes of setting up, the message "Unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes" Comes up again.
I am just wondering if any other is experiencing any similar issues? This is getting annoying.
same issue
Im having the same issue with Australian stock.
I too am having the same issue on Australian stock. :/
I'm having the exact same issue with Hong Kong stock. Tried everything from reinstalling to clearing the app preferences.
Has anyone found a solution to this annoyance? I don't like these notifications popping up every 5 minutes!!
If youre rooted, Use TitaniumBackup and freeze "SecurityLogAgent"
it'll get rid of those popups

same problem here as well
So, I was faced with the same problem as you all above. I did a bit of research and speculate (I'm still not 100% on this) that this security bug is linked with the keyboard Samsung has preinstalled on the device. Try disabling it, using another keyboard, or just disconnecting it from any network it may use (mainly to update your dictionary regularly.)
What I did exactly:
-Reboot phone into recovery, wipe cache partition, factory reset.
-Start up phone, security threat came after a few minutes, before anything was installed.
-Restarted phone through security to reset kernel
-On startup, disabled keyboard and enabled swiftkey. Scanned, result: secure.
-Enabled keyboard, but disabled all features. No problems. Scanned, result: secure.
-Enabled features one by one, no problems yet. No problems. Scanned, result: secure.
-Reset keyboard settings. Scanned, result: secure. After a few minutes, security was triggered.
As I said, this may or may not be related, but this is the first time I've been seeing my phone as secured since I bought it.
I read somewhere that the problem is known.. and should be fixed in an update...if you are rooted you know what you have to do
Had the very same problem which disappeared with the update to 5.1.1. Have a couple of colleagues who suffered as well as the update cleared it up. Unfortunately from what I've read 5.1.1 kills the prospect of rooting without triggering Knox... Should have done more research before rushing to update...
