Please help: restore data/ache app of dairy/journal - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear reader,
I love to write stuff in my journal/dairy. For this purpose i use the Samsung memo app (version 16.0.00-340).
Today I updated the app, and then went back to the previous version, but this lead to factory reset of the app.
The reset deleted the app data and cache. All my hard work is gone of the past couple of years. Also all my important advises for helping mentally ill people are gone. I feel like I let them down.
I am super sad right now. Is there anyway to restore the deleted memo app data? I would be so grateful and it would mean the world to me. Thank you in advance.
I am using a Samsung 7. Not rooted yet. I am willing to root it if its necessary.

problem with system apps force closing after restoring from backup

hey, to make a long story short since i'm sure you don't wanna have to read a whole page,
this my first Android phone coming from iPhone. I had originally gotten the skyrocket, but after getting throttled the second day and wanting to be able to customize and reading the i777 is the superior device, I decided to swap back to the i777 yesterday.
I had the skyrocket rooted and used titanium backup to backup my apps and system data. so I rooted this phone and tried to restore ask the apps and system data. everything at first looked like a perfect switch, but now I found problems. so far from what I've found, when I try to change ringtones using Android system the phone freezes and then it said that it had to force close.
the purge problem is the alarms, when I try to edit one or create a new one, it freezes again and force closes.
does anyone know a way to make it work while keeping all my apps and not having to start from scratch again? I'd be fine with having to redo all the settings and options if I have to
thanks for any help

TiBu has an option for only "missing apps and data" when restoring - this is the only safe option (in rare cases even it fails, but it's rare).
There's also an experimental "system data migration" option in TiBu that's off by default - I've never used it, and be warned that it may not work at all when trying to change to a completely different device.
ok, so you're saying
instead of doing the "restore apps plus system data", do the "restore missing apps with data"?

This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes newbies to get flamed. This is NOT the Help Desk. No one is paid to help you in here. We expect you to FIND help for yourself by reading and when no help can be found, THEN post. Laziness is not to be rewarded. Anyone familiar with TiBU knows that you should almost never restore system data with it because it will cause problems except in specific situations. Had you done a little searching and reading you would have likely come across this info as it is well documented in here. Be thankful Entropy took pity on you and gave you the right answer despite your laziness.

Yes.
(stupid 10char minimum post limit)
oh ok thanks, and the best way to redo everything is do a factory reset and restore from backup that way? I will still have my root correct?

and Miami, its attitudes like that that give off a bad presence of forums, I NEVER post on forums unless I can't find anything i'm looking for and in desperate need of knowing what i'm looking for. does that help you out in why I posted?
your attitude reflects on everyone. if you don't like my post and must assume that I haven't searched, then there's no need to post and make yourself look bad.

My attitude is fine. TiBU is one of THE most used apps on Android phones and by users in here and if you're saying you searched and did not find an answer about this then I say you're full of it. Like I said, be thankful Entropy helped you out because more often than not he feels the same way about this kind of thing. Redundant threads clog up the forums and it is always better to post to an existing related thread than to start a new one. All members should keep that in mind before hitting the Submit button.

If you're on a stock ROM I believe superuser will be wiped. So, you'll have to re-root. If you're on a custom ROM and do a factory reset, root should remain intact.
All he has to do is really wipe and install the rom he was using. Just do as they said with titanium backup and you'll be fine.

Ya, I did a factory rest and my root ended up staying on the phone and I was able to restore everything and
Have no problem. Thanks for your help guys. This is my first Android after coming from an iPhone for 4 years. Its so much better.

restore apps w/ app2zip without data?

Sorry if this is a real simple question and I'm sure it is, I just can't seem to find the answer. When I flash a rom I use app2zip to restore my apps. Everyone always says "don't restore data!", they seem to push this point. The problem is I can't figure out how not to restore data, every time I restore an app or a bunch of apps through TWRP my data is restored as well. All my email accounts come back, my memo pad notes etc and I think this is what is giving me buggy performance with my new rom.
If someone could give me some direction on this I would really appreciate it. Again I apologize, as I'm sure this is the wrong place to post this but I can't post in very many places due to my low post count.
Thanks
Anyone?
It seems like from what I read app2zip doesn't back up data, only the apps. But I reinstalled my rom the other day and when I restored my apps all my old data came back as well including email accounts and emails, not to mention numerous issues causing my phone to freeze. I ended up starting from scratch and reinstalling every app separately which can take a while.
I'm running jedi mind trick X2 on a samsung galaxy S2x
Any help would be great. Thanks.
PS: I can't post in the jedi mind trick forum because I don't have enough posts.
Use titanium backup...it gives you choices to restore app or app+data

Titanium/Dropbox/Slow Phone/ZDbox Questions!

Hi there. I have a couple of questions to ask about my GalaxyS3. GT-19300. Android version 4.1.1. Baseband version 19300BUDL12. Kernel version 3.0.31-256827.
Firstly after what seems like days & days of 'research' I finally plucked up the courage to root my phone, hoping to rid myself of all the bloatware. For a complete newbie like me it was quite daunting really but once I did it, it seemed fairly easy enough? I have installed Nobloat but have not yet used it as I have a few issues that I need resolving?
Anyway since rooting I have downloaded TitaniumBackup & hopefully backed up my files? It took me hours & hours to find out how/where to save it to my external sd card? I am still unsure if I've managed to back up absolutely everything ie; texts & so on? Here is my first question, I have tried to sync my backup to my dropbox but while its 'uploading' it suddenly stops & says stopped because of 'internal error'? What does this mean & why is it happening & what can I do about it?
My next question is since I've rooted my phone, it as gone very very slow, in everything it does, even in my messages it shows the number for 5seconds or so before it actually changes to the contacts name? Is there a reason why my phone is so slow?
My next question is, I think, maybe related. I have ZDbox installed & now when I go to clear/use task killer, my phone reboots? Is there e reason for this & have I done something wrong or am I missing something silly?
I know there are quite a few question here & I have looked & used the search button but I obviously can't see for looking & I have spent a large chunk of time researching/looking for answers?
Anyhow thank you for reading my many questions & hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? It is quite daunting messing with your expensive phone knowing thjat you could potentially 'brick' it!! :fingers-crossed:
Regards Jay
Can't answer all your questions but tb doesn't back up your texts. There are other apps that back up texts without needing root. It only backs up apps and app data. With regards to your dropbox sync, you might have put in the wrong login details? I used it for a while and it was fine.
As for the phone slowing down, try backing everything and do a complete wipe.

Thanks for the quick response:good:. I shall look into the apps that can backup/save texts. I never thought to look there to be honest!!
With regard to my Dropbox, I definitely have the correct log in details, like I say, it gets to about 30% uploaded then comes up with 'internal error'!?
Also would that be a factory reset when you mention complete wipe? Would I then need to download Titanium again to restore my phone to near enough what it is now?
Jay
Back up everything you can, put it safe somewhere else (external sd or pc). Go into recovery and do a full wipe (cache, data, dalvik cache) and reboot. You'll have to set everything up again (login details and etc), but seems like it's the only option afaik.

Sorry to bump this!! I think I know why my phone is so slow, looking through other threads it must be my JB update? (I hope?) So hopefully this will be sorted as soon as my other problem is resolved..... My missing photo? as per my other thread!!
Why not try flashing another rom. Remeber to backup all your files to your pc.

I have only just plucked up the courage to root my phone!!!!! never mind 'flash a new rom' !!!!!!
I'm starting to go crazy with looking at all the various information for hours on end & seemingly getting nowhere & no closer to flashing a new rom?
Now then, funny thing is, my phone has mysteriously gone back to being fairly fast again?? Again I don't know what's happened to revert it back? So at least that's one of my problems sorted :good:
Oh & my other thread about my missing photo as been resolved, I had backed my phone up quite a while back & found it in some old files on an external hard drive, yipeee!!

[REQ] stock Contacts.apk/ContactsProvider.apk files JB 4.2.2

Hi people!
I need someone who has the aforementioned files to gently hand me, because I was messing up with root uninstalling apps with a app named root uninstaller, and I had the unfortunate luck of the app being bugged and instead of clicking on the app I wanted to uninstall, it choosed the next app (which was the Contacts app) and voila, I accidentally clicked on the uninstall button, no going back. Now I can't dial anyone or add contacts.. Because I simply don't have any valid Contacts apk. Any suggestion to solve this irritating problem is welcome! I want to stray away as much as possible from ROM Flash/Reflash or factory reset so don't suggest me that unless there is really no option.
Thanks in the advance,

Download a call/sms app from Play then. You don't even mention which device....

I haven't mentioned my device cuz i don't think it is worth it.. It is very far from being a known device, being restricted to Portugal very mainly.. It is a meo smart a12, and the technical name is ZTE Blade C2 V809(chinese manufacter, unless I flash a custom recovery, the recovery mode is in chinese, which complicates the things by a pretty big amount shall I need it..) I think that the contact apps around in the Play Store interface in one way or another with the Android Contacts app.. So I don't think it's worth giving a shot, but if you know any apps, let me know too..

[HELP!] If you have a Rooted Galaxy S6 Edge then I need to ask you for a huge favor!!

Ok, so I screwed up. I wanted to uninstall Uber using Titanium Backup and I accidentally uninstalled a different app right above it. A system app! I didn't catch it's "display name" but in the screenshot you can see it's called " com.trustonic.tuiservice. " It's the app that's right between Uber and Trim in TiBU.
http://imgur.com/a/McrDD
If someone could please make a backup of this file using TiBU and then send it to me by posting it on here I would really appreciate it!! I will reinstall it using whoever can provide it to me's backup. I'd prefer someone that has the black 128GB version (just cause I'm super paranoid now) but I'll take anyone with a Verizon S6 Edge. I don't know what this app is or what it does and I really don't want to make my phone useless
Lesson learned: Make sure you pay attention when messing around with your phone's rooted apps & settings...
Update: Now my brightness slider won't work on Ultra Power Saving Mode. Hurry everyone before my phone explodes!! Lol
Thanks in advance!
Don't get your hopes up from my post, I don't have it. I just have a possible option for you....
Try downloading a rom based on your firmware, dezip on a pc, mount system.ext4, extract the files you need. An next time you plan on uninstalling anything system, even bloatware like Uber when pre installed, hit backup before uninstalling! !

Needs to go in system\app\TuiService\
Hope this helps
I can't help because mine is not rooted but I can tell you that the app you just deleted accidentally has got something to do with Knox, so, it is kinda fatal...
Thank you to everyone that has commented! I ended up just flashing the stock firmware through Odin and then doing a factory reset. It looks like the program is back in Titanium Backup after I did that so everything should be good to go! Also, the Knox Status app confirmes I still have my warranty. Lol I went almost 4 weeks before doing a factory reset and I didn't notice any issues so I guess it wasn't that fatal. Thanks again much love everyone!
