It's really hard to decide for me, which tablet i'm going to buy. What are your opinions?
Well if you're using it primarily for web browsing then it's the Sony all the way for me, as the apple doesn't support flash. If that's not important to you, well the apple has more apps and the iOS is nice and easy to use.
Depends entirely on what you plan to do. Both are top notch tablets, both are great for media consumption. The biggest advantage for Ipad is obviously sheer volume of apps, the biggest S Tabl advantage is the remote control and Playstation ability. Biggest negative for Ipad is no ability to expand it, limited ports etc.
I, like most/all people in the S forum will say the Sony.
The design is just brilliant. I was amazed at the volume of films available in Video Unlimited. And for £399 its pretty darn cheap.

If you own an android phone I would go for Sony.
I think it's also the design and the way you hold the tablet is just great.
They both have positive and negative points.
I only miss HDMI on this tablet. But streaming your media with DLNA works great and easy. It's awesome to really throw your video to your PC, PS3 even XBOX 360 and all other devices that work with it.
Currently Own:
IPad 2
Jetstream
HTC Flyer
Previously Owned:
Tablet S
I think that Sums it up ^^
The Ipad 2 is superior in almost every aspect. The only reason I could think of why u would grab the Tablet S over the Ipad 2 is if money is a concern or if you just plain hate Apple...
I believe that the Tablet S is an excellent tablet for those who have never owned a tablet.
Many of my friends who used it loved it (none of them have owned a tablet before).
However, when compared to the Jetstream it just lacks so much... The jetstream is smoother, faster, screen is nicer (imo). The Pen functionality is a huge bonus.
Compared to the Ipad2... Ipad2 has zero lag whereas the Tablet S has occasional lag, Tablet S has various other issues (read up on this forum) that the Ipad simply does not have. I have found absolutely nothing that the Tablet S does better then the Ipad2, whereas the Ipad2 does soooo many things better then the Tablet S.
Ofc... your in the Tablet S section so expect every1 to call me a troll, but this is my honest opinion; if you have used other tablets before, stay away from the Tablet S & go for the Ipad2.
TBH... I have currently ditched the Jetstream and the Ipad2 and instead use the Flyer simply because it is so portable!
Anyways GL with your purchase and I hope your happy with whatever you pick!
then tell them that I'm new and I had the iphone 2 with jailbrek and believe me you do not miss anything by that same flash that is not one.
the second is that if you stick a need to control it and believe me the jailbrek some applications can conger n the store besides Android also if you want free networks ipad 2 equal jailbrek need to part you can not do in the new that the only ipads vercion is, is the least 4.3.3 and can not lower the vercion I can not tell me that ode to the sony tablet but proven and if it was a good thing to stop me delivered on 15 November and believe me that what people say here is the same iPad tablet 2 and the sounds are not the iphone 2 has 512 of ram that is not nothing right and sony tablet has a gigue part has integrates a dual core but with nvidia ram it into pieces
I believe the iPad has better apps, but the Sony tablet offers a better overall experience.

Yes, I agree. Sony Tablet rear camera is 5MP with Exmor R, resolurion of screen is higher and better than ipad 2, it also offers more functions than any ipad out there.
Lets see
1. Ipad has more apps.
and thats all
Sony Tablet S
Better screen resolution .
DLNA. You can throw medi from your tablet directly to your laptop, desktop or any TV with dlna without cables.
Remote control for anything in your house.
Playstation games.
Way better design
Flash!!!!!
Ability to use a sd card, hell you can even use a usb flash disk.
I can go on but i think you got the idea.
Oh, one more thing... i have yet to find an app on ipad that is not on android. at least for my use.

Sky Go isn't on Android yet, although it is apparently coming "this winter".
The deciding factor for me though, as I said earlier, is the lack of Flash on the ipad. I think the ipad is briliiant, but I couldn't bring myself to spend £400 on something that won't give me the full internet, especially seeing as I use youtube and BBC F1 sites alot, which both need flash to work properly. So, Sony S for me!
Watch out for the fanboys. Do your homework and get what suits your needs. No tablet is the right fit for everyone. Don't believe for a moment that the iPad 2 its superior in every way to the tablet s. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. look at the tradeoffs and decide what features are more important to you and make your choice based on that.
Have both in the house and yeah the UI from the iPad is nicer but for allround possibilities the tablet s is much better.Have both sitting on the table side by side every morning but I always pick up the Sony first to do my internet stuff cause the ipad is just so weak in that area.Like it's been stated here they both have their advantages and weaknesses but I still prefer the Tablet S,but that's only my opinion.
BTW I got the ipad as a present cause there was no way I was going to buy one
You really need to decide for your self. Most of the popular iPad apps are available on Android too. I haven't had too much problem in that area.
Android tablets are still young and have fairly small market share. You need to consider if you want to be an early adopter and go throughs some of the growing pains. Many of the people here are developers and want to support the platform and help increase marketshare, so yeah, we want you to buy an android tablet. Sony is my current recommendation.
While Android tablet *can* offer a better browsing experience, it can also hinder it. Many sites see 'android' and assume you are on a phone and send you to a mobile site without asking or giving you the option for desktop. Switching browsers can fix this and more sites are checking for android tablets, but its still a bit of a nuisance for now.
So apparently google's nexus tablet will be made by asus. Personally i think it will be the asus memo announced at CES.
Google and Asustek will unveil a 7-inch co-branded tablet PC as early as May, with the model targeting Amazon's Kindle Fire and to be priced at US$199-249, according to industry sources.

I do hope it is the 370t. 7 inch plus T3 best of both worlds.
I'd buy one, just for the hell of it, at $199. Hopefully Google will help subsidize this thing so they can hit that price point. A $199 ICS 7" Tegra 3 tablet with full Google services could be a killer. With the right promotions, it could compete nicely against an "iPad Mini."
Not that Android tablet makers (or Google, for that matter) have demonstrated an ability to effectively promote their products. But hey, there's always a first time!
Nothing's official yet. And as much as I like my TP, I seriously hope Asus won't be the one. None of their tablets has been perfect. So unless Google take over quality control, this could be a disaster.
Samsung is the way to go, but I guess after two hero phones, it's time to switch?

I thought the transformer 1 was well received and one of the best android tablets you could get one it was out? Also, asus only has 2 tablets on the market.
And I dont think you could say any manufacturer has ever put out a tablet that has been perfect. A case could be made for the ipad with the lack of flash and its restrictions and what not. Its all based on preference.

I would buy one also if its that cheap. Best band for buck. No tablet maker would have something that cheaply princely with that much power. It should be a no brainstorm to choose that over a kindle fire or nook color. I can't believe I got so impatient, right before I got the prime, that I couldn't find OG transformer for the black Friday price that I almost considered getting an acer100 7in. Or a kindle fire..lol. so glad I didn't. I did have my eye on Toshiba thrive bit heard too many horror stories on its battery life. I loved the fact it had full size USB ports. Although it had tegra2, the display model in store seemed to have decent speed to it. But it wasn't priced cheap enough. Then I heard about Prime for only 100 more and way more powerful. There was no turning back once I had my mind set on Prime.

Dont you hate word predict? lol.
I would buy it even at $250. As far as acer, I have an acer a100 now and its got leaked ICS, rooted, with buildprop changed to a500. Even has mod to make your micro SD as your internal. So you're not limited to 8gb or 16gb anymore. ICS made a huge difference. Smoother than prime in some cases like home screen and app drawer transition. Even stock browser is smoother. With the build.prop change I can see and play 90% of gameloft games. The only thing really sucks about it is when I HDMI out to TV it gets laggy due to only being dual core and ofcourse the battery life is only about 5 hours. I'll post a video in a bit so you can see how smooth it is.
But once the 370t comes out of course I have to get that to replace the a100.
Might take me a some time to record ICS but heres a video I made a while back when it was still on HC. So you can imagine how smoother it will be on ICS.
Everybody seems to forget that Google has bought Motorola mobility for a reason in addition to buying patents.
With Motorola, Google can build its own handset and its own tablet.

This is true but would show favoritism over other Android manufacturers. Causing them to pull out of Android scene. Which would hurt Google in the end. So its smart for Google to choose someone else to make new Google nexus device. It'll show they not favoring Motorola. Asus will likely be the creator of new Google Nexus tablet n it'll be powered by tegra3. With new reports now of Qualcomm S4 chips having manufacturing delays and setbacks, alot of new android devices that were going to use that chip will be delayed Now. Which leaves the door wide open for Tegra3 to continue being the top most powerful Android chip out there.

I was about to take xperia z2 tablet but there are threads in xda supporting the cons i mentioned below , so i myself am waiting.
Xperia z2
cons : slight bend after few weeks of usage , creaking sounds, low build quality, touch screen issues
pros : sleek and light weight , snapdragon 801 , waterproof (low build quality destroys it tho) , larger screen
nvidia shield will be available from 29th july why not wait a week and decide after you read its reviews too.
Things to observe in NVIDIA SHIELD reviews
Heat , battery life , stylus performance , UI lag

My Z2 tablet works like a charm. I have no problems, except of the occasional touch issues. It's not a deal breaker, though. Also I'd simply install CM if I wouldn't be satisfied with the stock ROM.

Don't expect too much of Nvidia:
You can connect a PS3 controller on the Z2, too. I use the sixaxis controller app, but there is an app from Sony installed per default, too.
Almost all Android games are optimized for the Snapdragon SoCs because of Nvidia's miniscule market share. Tegra zone apps are the only ones which are Nvidia-optimized, but lately there were not much new games released AFAIK.
I had the TF201 and TF700. Especially Gameloft games were running on low settings, even back then when the tablet was new. Of course you can try out GLTools, but it's hit and miss.
The shield of course also has its strengths, but don't assume that Android games run better than on a Snapdragon 801.
When I look at Nvidia's track regarding their SoCs, I am pessimistic about their future market share. Hence I expect not much games to be Nvidia-optimized. That's why I wanted the Snapdragon 801 and nothing else.
Of course I dislike monoplies and wish Nvidia the best, but realistically I cannot see them succeeding.

Thx for the balance response, I have not made my decision yet, I have been using Sony for ages, I willing to test something new, the only thing that worries me is the fact that android games aren;t working as great as I would image e.i gameloft. I will not buy it until finishing my master degree, otherwise i will go nuts...
Touch issues pretty much gone after latest update. And I for one have zero build issues. Some people do but what's the bet some people do on the shield as well.

Hello now that both the z2 and nvidia shield have been out for a while what are your thoughts and experiences on both devices please?
Hi all, first of all I hope this is the right section (forgive me mods and admins if not.) Secondly I'm looking to buy a tablet running Nvidia hardware for their optimized games and since I'm a Google fanboy the nexus 9 is at the top of my wishlist. I was just wondering as far as hardware goes, which is faster? I know they have the same processor and gpu but the nexus 9's is 64 bit which will make it the winner right? Also is the nexus 9's Kepler GPU on par with the Shield tablets Kepler GPU, and does the Nexus 9 have all the optimizations and benefits of the Nvidia Tablet?
How much do you have to spend? At this stage, if I didn't have a n9 already, I'd be looking into the Google Pixel C
Sadley I'm on a 300$ budget. I know what you mean, the Pixcel C looks like the tablet to have for a power user but I won't have the resources sadley.
I have both the N9 & the Shield tab. IMO the Shield is the better device. This doesn't mean that the N9 is a bad one. But for pure media consumtion like watching movies, videos and ofcourse playing games go for the Shield. In games the Shield performs better and you will never notice any heat. Its also near stock and latest 5.1.1 runs really great. As for flashing roms its not the best option, but you see N9 has also not alot.
But as always its your choice

I haven't seen any reputable stores sell it anymore. It's off Amazon, Newegg, and even Nvidia's site now.
Thanks for the reply! Will consider when buying! Can you explain why the Shield Tablet isn't the best for flashing? That's usually what I like in a device but I can reconsider because I'm looking at these at a gaming tablet standpoint.
Nexus 9 has a lot of problems. I have my 2nd tablet and its still messed up.
hello everyone!
i'm thinking of buying this tablet, buuut... i've heard about all the issues it have, backlight bleeding, bad back cover, mushy buttons, bad speakers... with all that i can live. ok, i'm lying, couldn't live with bad speakers, but i've found somewhere on xda that i should look for nexus with specific serial numbers and i found one with "good" serial number. so, that's resolved, too.
only issue i left out was overheating, because that's the issue i couldn't live with and the issue i would like to talk about. i'm not gonna go easy on that tablet coz i would be primarily using it for gaming. and not for candy crush but for some tegra optimized games, like doom or portal, so no ten mins toilet gaming, i'm talking about playing for 4 hours on that thing, or even more. playing when charging too.
i'd like to hear from owners who game on this device, if there are any, if my expectations can be met or i should go for shield tablet for which i heard has better thermal dissipation and doesn't throttle easily
If that's what you intend to use it for, purchase another tablet, and forget about the n9
Have a look at my thread "should I take back my nexus 9" for all the issues I've had recently as it relates to some of the negatives you're trying to avoid but for what you're going to be doing I'd go with another tablet like a nvidia shield maybe not as up to date as a nexus but its designed for gaming. But we're also approaching CES and MWC so you never know there might be a new tablet that comes out during the next 2-3 months.
thanks guys. and i've read your thread, @mrbtree98. it looks to me that this tablet is more of a problem than good. no offence to the owners who are satisfied with it, if there are any, judging by the threads.
my choice will fall to shield tablet. it's cheap and can withstand my demands. at least i hope it can.

Perhaps a Google's Pixel tablet may suit your needs if those nvidia-oriented games aren't exclusive to nvidia's chipset.
i've read about google pixel, and it looks that it's not so well optimised. plus it's pricey and it's not available in our country. the shield tablet looks like best bang for buck to me
@dvijetrecine
Not that I dislike the N9
But it's getting aged. I recommend that you wait a few months
If nothing Spike's your interests then go with the N9/shield tablet.
But do note the development of the shield tablet is like none existent.
N9 dispite it's problems it has a good community.
Just some thoughts to consider.
@USBhost, i don't dislike it either, but it's not good for my needs. in one point, i thought of buying both shield and nexus 9, one for gaming, one for reading, surfing and other light tasks. i like the idea of remix os on nexus 9, which looks fantastic.
many roms and kernels is not advantage for me, coz i got so occupied with flashing and tweaking that i was never satisfied and always wanted more. i owned nexus 6 and 6p, nexus 7, few galaxy devices... and all of them had many roms and stuff but like i said, never satisfied. now i have moto x pure/style, and i'm ok with few roms, they are ok for me.
and i saw shield's development, it's not that bad, even have some nougat roms, not without bugs, but there is some movement, so it's enough for me. could say that i'm getting too old for that sh*t. and too busy, i have two jobs and got only weekends for flashing, plus i need a stable device and shield looks more stable to me. in terms of hardware to be stable, not to suddenly die on me, or start acting funny
