one more query, i received my LeEco Lemax 2 yesterday itself, but unable to register fingerprints. mobile is not accepting any input in fingerprint setup page. I am still reluctant to buy the phone due to the "very popular" fingerprint sensor issues!

Yes, you can do it, I have X822, I Tested today the CM13, it works, without problem,,,all X820 recovery and ROMS are compatible to X822 .....
I have x822 and CM13 works great, but also has some LTE problem (on all roms)

Any rom for le max 2 works on any model number
I Advise you to update your X829 to the indian 5.8.019S (X821). The phone get's better performance, less bloat and better fingerprint recognition.
Never update to the chinese X820 023S, I tested on my X829 and it was full of Chinese apks, and didn't have the Google Play Store.
i purchased an x829 le max 2 last week. the device has 128gb memory and 6g ram. it is running eui version 5.8.01.6S and android version 6.0.1 . i am writing this thread because the phone has no Software update option. what can i do to update the device? i have tried various advice in other forums and kept getting error messages such as apk not found and corrupted file. i really just want to get the soft ware update option.
please read the forum, 16s shop rom doesn't have OTA update. you need to install TWRP and rom manually.

Many people already asked the same question just search around the forum and do some reading if not sure ask. LeEco phone is one of the easiest to root and install TWRP and flash custom rom. I bought mine X829 a month ago and did that no issue at all already flahed many roms. Guide for how to root and install TWRP here:

I bought a X821 and on the back of my phone is x821 printed, but after installing Lineageos the model in "About Phone" is LEX829. Now I'm wondering if my phone really is X821. Since the X829 doesn't support band 20. I want to know sure that I can use band 20.

If you bought it as an Indian LeEco Le Max 2, it's an x821. The model number is written on a system file, which gets overwritten by every ROM you flash. In fact, if you flash a stock ROM intended for the Chinese version (x820, which is 100% the same as x821, except for the included apps and the data encryption) your model number changes to x820. Just don't worry, you have the correct model.

I got the same. Installed CM14.1 results in X829 --> additonal flashed Indian Modem -> X820 aka X821
If you phone tells you X829 you will not have LTE Band 20 ( via software )

My LTE is not the best so I already had a fealing something was off. Where can I find this modem?

here in Munich is the Indian / Russia Modem working with Vodafone LTE ... but fingerprint is not the best...

I have a problem with roaming with all custom rom with x829 when i change land ( france to luxembourg ) the phone lost signal the roaming is not ok i have any solution , i have try miui , rr, lineage and it is the same issue , the solution is the stock rom and the network is ok when i go to luxembourg .
Have you the same issue with the x829 ( x820 dont have this issue my brother have this model )
Maybe can you says me if another custom rom is good with x829 ,because i confirm the x829 has no compatibility with x820 rom always the roaming issue and no signal

Yes this rom solve this issue roaming it is the only way to solve it ...
I use this rom all day for my job in luxembourg
All member xda says x829 and x820 are same device , but the custom rom and official rom x820 , have the same issue no signal when we roaming in another land . I dont non why .
Finally i can says no compatibility rom with x829 all custom and all official chineese x820 rom have this issue
I have try flash modem it is the same ,no signal
I do not have this issue using my x829. Travelling from Germany to the netherlands roaming works. ROM Cuoco 28s M15
