the easy answer to that is no? because i'm not sure? how could I find out if I have? thanks for your help
backing up your efs folder is the first thing people who read instructions do.
you need to send the phone to service, you're done.
but to make sure, check the internal SD for a backup via adb from recovery
Hello,
As the title mentions my phone is stuck at the logo screen (the one that says Samsung). Because of this I'm pretty sure it soft bricked (caused by me playing with link2sd) and thus will need a fix. The phone is a Australian Virgin Phone 4G Samsung galaxy s3 and so I tired using Odin and a 4.1.1 Optus MD5 to restore it. However, this has not worked and so I will be needing any other advice or ideas you have.
Please note: I can get into Download mode and recovery mode easily and when I do go into recovery mode it says failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)
Restore your backed up EFS folder .

I have the EFS folder on nandroid. However, when I used Odin to restore my phone it deleted CMW. Is there anyway to install the nandroid or get the file off nandroid or put CMW back on the phone to install nandroid and would this work?
hi
try this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41593409#post41593409
Reinstall CWM Recovery using odin (donwload mode off course). Ensure to install the same version you used in your nandroid backup for compatability.
History:
Well not really sure about what happen to the phone but when it was handed to me it was already stuck on boot logo.
I can go into recovery mode but it always say E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument) which I reckon would be an empty efs folder since I handled some problem too before with same problem and they all got no files on efs folder.
Well what I already did was flashed it with 4 part files via Odin3 v3.07 from the rescue firmwares from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6
Used XELLA and XXEMC2 with pit and it flashed all right but still stuck on boot logo
Question is, is the empty EFS causing the stuck on boot logo or some other issues like NAND corrupted/damaged already?
Or can I rebuild the EFS folder from other i9300 working EFS in the stuck on boot logo state?
Thanks in advance for the input..

restore you efs backup. if you didn't make one - replace the motherboard

Yeah seems like your /efs is wiped. Check out the discussion in the thread here.
@Glebun
Well I don't have the EFS backup as clearly stated on my first post and while replacing the motherboard is the quickest "fixed" possible, If I got lucky and I have one? But I am just wondering out of the blue if there's another workaround, I've went through a lot of threads here with same problem but unfortunately no concrete solution than send it in for replacement, anyway just trying out my luck on this thread.
Update:
Well there's a miracle happened,
I flashed it again with the XXEMC2 without the pit and now it went past to the boot logo but it just keeps on restarting now on the Samsung animation welcome screen (say a boot loop?)...
@dhirend_6d
I'll check on that mate thanks..

My galaxy grand neo gt-i9060 got stuck in the bootloop, i have done several things like wipeing cache/ dalvik and also done factory reset, even I have flashed my phone with stock rom done all wiping procedure still no progress. When i entered into recovery mode i found efs failure, efs was unable to mount.
Is this the thing, does problem with efs mounting is causing my phone to stuck in bootloop. Please help me to resolve efs and bootloop proble.
my main problem is my EFS is totally corrupted. i have yellow writing on my ROM which i have read is permanent safe mode and that i need to restore my efs. Sadly i dont think i salvaged enough, i made a EFS backup yesterday (sort of) before i started fiddling around to try and unlock my phone. i have the .img file and .tar file on my PC but i have read you need a gz file?
When making the backup i was on custom 4.3 ROM and im now on stock 4.3 rooted.
UPDATED
i have attempted to restore my efs using a the utility here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-backup-restore-efs-imei-sgsiii-t1901098
however i get this pop up and when i reboot its just stuck on the blue Samsung logo and wont boot into the rom
http://gyazo.com/e0f93bc00b9355d7e58712f5bd162e53
History of my actions
1) had working rom perfect - made efs backup using galaxasim unlock
2) IMEI corrupt from an update
3) did super wipe on phone and installed stock rom using ODIN, after update phone just got stuck on samsung logo
4) flashed this file which got my rom working again but of course i had a corrupt IMEI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJMJLdzHaAY
5) restored EFS and now phone wont get past samsung logo again (tried clearing cache and wipe data, I also get this error when doing a full wipe from phil CWM [formatting /sd-ext unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
any help?

I have an S3 here that seems to be softbricked. It loads and stays in the samsung S3 logo. I tried to wipe cache and reboot. same thing. I then proceeded to restore Stock ROM via odin, it seemed to be successful but it is still stuck on the logo. Any ideas?

yes I did factory reset. I had used a hong kong version of the stock firmware. I am not sure if they are interchangeable with my phone (it is from philippines) but there was not philippines available in sammobile.
Do any error messages show up when you enter stock recovery? When my phone was softbricked I got a message saying something about how the efs couldn't be mounted.

Ah, I was just wondering since some custom kernels back up your efs for you. Have a look through your phone's internal and external sd for anything called efs.tar.gz anyway. If you can't find anything like that then you might have to do this http://zidroid.com/how-to-fix-failed-to-mount-efs-for-galaxy-s3-gt-i9300/ . I'm not sure what your IMEI will be like after that though. When I did it on my phone it stayed functional but yours could be different.

I was going to try to check myself, but now I seem to have a different problem. I go into download mode, but the PC nor odin detect the phone anymore.. This was after I flashed stock ROM via odin.
