I did some searches and came up short. I have my bootloader unlock code. Can somebody link me to a root guide for the latest stock rom please? I don't want to install a custom rom. Just install root.

So just to clarify, all I have to do is fastboot to twrp? I don't need to install it? It's confusing. "Boot to recovery and had TWRP"?? Never rooted a phone before. If somebody could go into greater detail, that would be great.
To get root and TWRP.
Credit to Foltz61.
1. Boot to bootloader.
2. Fastboot boot TWRP-L.img
3. Install supersu-2.49.zip (even though I didn't lose root)
4. Reboot back to system.
5. Reboot back to bootloader.
6. fastboot flash recovery TWRP-L.img.
7. fastboot reboot.
8. Boot to recovery and had TWRP

You were eventually able to install twrp though right? Seems pretty straight forward and easy. Unlock bootloader, setup adb on comp, enable adb on phone, boot into twrp, flash custom recovery.

Nope. I missed that the unlock part was necessary! Thank you for giving the details though!!!!
When I figured that Device Only mode gives decent GPS use for maps, directions, and Pokémon Go I just decided to leave it be. Plus all this concern with root and Pokémon Go not working. I don't play much but I keep my phone as backup when my son's battery dies.
Thanks again!

It says mobile signal or something like that. Did I do something wrong can any one assist me on this matter? I followed the steps on the form as well as several videos showing me how to do this. another question do i need to root first or unlock first? I've done this process over and over again but cannot get my cell phone to make calls or get data, There is like a hazard sign where the data shows.. please help me!

You should ask in the ROMs thread.
When you unlock, you also gain root.

So if I follow the unlock guide. via ODIN and casual I gain root? I'm a newbie to this lol former Iphone user all of this is new to me. I've tried several roms and still have the same issue. Also followed the guides as well. It's very fustrating because I get no where regarding this matter. Even watching the video's and following the steps have led me to be unsucessful..

1. Flash revision3 via odin following the guide in its thread. (This will give you root)
2.Follow the bootloader unlock process in adam's guide from its thread (this will unlock your bootloader and unless hes changed it flash twrp a custom rocovery.)
Now you need to reboot into recovery and make a back up. To do this you need to go into recovery (twrp or clockwork mod). You can get to recovery by powering off the phone and holding volume-up+home+power. Now go to backup and restore back up. If you have an external sd I would recommend selecting the option to backup to it.
After that select a rom you want. If you want stock rooted you dont have to flash anything. Look in your app drawer if you see an app called supersu or super user you're rooted. If you want another rom follow these steps to flash it.
1. Read rom thread for known bugs so you know what youre getting into.
2. Download rom. DO NOT UNZIP.
3. Check md5 sum.
4. Move to external or internal sd where you can find it.
5. Boot into recovery.
6. Select install.
7 navigate to rom file.
8. Swipe to install. If it has aroma follow instructions if not wait for it to do its thing

Good morning guys,
Im not even sure where to start because im just getting into programming. I just tried to root my HTC rezound last night, so I followed the tutorial to the letter. Everything went very well by all accounts, except after unlocking bootloader, pda net, installed superuser, but yet when I try to verify that I have root access the phone does not recognise the root. Does anyone have any ideas why this could be? Ill be more than happy to post whatever information you might need in helping me figure this little problem out.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about a stock Rom, but I did a custom recovery and haven't touched s-on or s-off yet. I did unlock the bootloader and pda net using the walkthrough found at the htcdev.com /bootloader site. I don't know if I just need to find another walkthrough to finish the rooting process or if I'm way off here. The phone itself still works as good as ever so at least I didn't brick it. I feel like I'm close or at least on the right track.

pull your battery and re insert it.
hold vol down button and power until you get the white bootloader screen
The top should say unlocked in pink
if you have a custom recovery it will also say tampered in pink
since you are new and not sure, to continue we need to verify this
what does it say?

I just got this in the mail today. Does anyone have any insights on how to unlock the bootloader and inject root? I had assumed 'fastboot' would work, but this has ODIN. I'm sure I could follow the steps on the original S4, but I don't know what the downstream effects will be.
Thanks!

Ok, just got done rooting my gs4 vzw dev edition. It was really pretty simple.
Steps from my win8 laptop were...
Install samsung drivers,
get adb working (android sdk doesn't seem to work on win8.. but just the adb files are all you need, google adb platform-tools or just use win7)
dl and push your superuser zip to the sdcard or external sdcard
dl odin 3.07 and extract to pc
dl and make tar.md5 of your favorite recovery. ( i personally like cwm )
Then all I did was... reboot phone in to odin mode... while phone is powered off, hold vol down + power
Start odin.exe
uncheck auto-reboot
click pda button, select the recovery file.md5
press start and let it finish, only takes a few secs...
once done.. reboot in to recovery, and flash the superuser.zip u pushed over to it.
Vol up + power to boot in to recovery. for me i just booted the phone normally... used "adb reboot recovery" then flashed superuser.zip.
reboot your phone and done.
good idea to make a backup while ur in recovery
If someone has hosting, i can send the files needed.

I have yet to take the plunge on a custom recovery, but I'm sure I'll do that soon.
Additionally, the boot screen now has a picture of an "unlocked" lock, and the words "Samsung" "Custom". I guess they know that this has been flashed.
How did you order this prior to it being available on the Samsung Web site?

It pretty easy to get root and TWRP. Here are the instructions, taken from another thread. (Do you guys even read this stuff?)
Credit to Foltz61.
1. Boot to bootloader.
2. Fastboot boot TWRP-L.img
3. Install supersu-2.49.zip (even though I didn't lose root)
4. Reboot back to system.
5. Reboot back to bootloader.
6. fastboot flash recovery TWRP-L.img.
7. fastboot reboot.
8. Boot to recovery and had TWRP
Thanks, I'll try it tomorrow. It's a bit hard to keep track of like 5 threads and 10 new pages in each thread each day.
Does it matter which SuperSU ZIP version we use? Chainfire website shows 2.46.

At this time it would be best to not flash twrp. Instead fastboot boot twrp.img then install beta.SuperSU. 2.49

Lollipop will check the recovery partition and if it isn't stock it will put it back. In order for TWRP to stick you must boot TWRP after you install to allow it to patch the lollipop rom. TWRP must not be read only or else it cannot install supersu nor patch.
You guys got a lot to learn, but this is good, because now maybe some of you will pick up some experience and grow while here on XDA
---------- Post added at 09:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 PM ----------
In addition, do not use TWRP from the official twrp website until Dees_Troy gets around to updating his personal device tree since they do not accomondate for the changes seen in Lollipop. You have been officially warned. Unless you like sweats, tears, and heartaches.

I must have missed some initial steps at some point. I've tried to install TWRP using Mobileuncle Tools and SPFlash Tools without success.
When I try to start my phone into bootloader mode, I get a warning that the function is turned off for security.
What am I doing incorrectly?
Thanks in advance! I appreciate your good works!

did You flash the recovery successfully.
No, not as yet
I'm sorry that it has taken so long to reply. Summer is crazy around here. Look up "chaos" in the dictionary and you will find my picture beside the definition!
My phone, actually today, updated to Android 6. So, I will need to root it over again. As soon as that happens, I'll get rid of that KingRoot bs.
Again, thanks for your help!
