slow down it takes tym to gt a reply..
anyhow i m here
1) All custom roms are rooted so u will not loose ur root access..
2)All rom developers have listed the samsung apps deleted by them, and they usually give it as an addon pack if some people want.
See it what apps they have removed , if the app u want is deleted good for u or u have to deleted it manually as u have done in the past..
Alternatively u can delete it from the rom before flashing too... if u are experienced.
3)This is a kernel related issue try changing/flashing a new kernel the problem should get solved..
i want to flash the litening rom, what is the newest version available?
my kernel is KF4 but most of the roms i found are for other kernel versions, how do i solve this?
The latest version of litening ROM is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
but can i suggest Cognition as i have used both and i do prefer cognition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Your kernel doesnt matter - each ROM usually includes their own kernel and when you flash the new rom the kernel from that ROM will also be applied to your phone at the same time
Is cyanogenmod for gs2 released?
And whar is the difference btwn different ketnrls? say ke7 is better or kf4 is better?

Yes but no fully functional. The team has done a great job though and hats off to them.
These are custom ROMs for International Galaxy Player 5.0 with minimum modifications. What you get is essentially a stock gingerbread ROM, rooted plus the custom kernel (including CWM) from rumirand.

How to flash?
Full wipe
Flash using Odin (if you are not sure how to use Odin, do some research about this first)
Restart and you are good to go
Will it work on my Galaxy Player?
Galaxy Player 5.0 International (with a physical home button) WORK
Galaxy Player 5.0 US (without physical home button) DO NOT WORK
Galaxy Player 3.6, 4.0 (US or International) DO NOT WORK
Acknowledgement
Actually I did very little to create this ROM. All credits should go to rumirand and Entropy512 who make the custom kernel and CWM possible. If I miss anyone, just let me know.

Have you wipe the cache partition and do a factory reset? If there is old user setting in data partition, it can cause unexpected behavior.
I can do some small tweaks if it doesn't need to go too deep into the system, no guarantee though. Many new features will come from rumirand's kernel actually. e.g. lag-fix should come fairly soon.

Forgot about that im new to Samsung and Odin, thought it did it for you. Ive just wiped Dalvik cache, wipe data and cache partitions and its WORKED thank you.
Later I will create a full recovery for those who bricked their Galaxy Player.
Good call, a nice easy way to update to a rooted 2.3 if you are on 2.2.

Just used this to update from 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 on my daughters YP-G70 UK model. Absolutely painless - didn't even have to wipe data! all is working sweet and CWM too. Cheers again.

Glad that it works. A little surprise that it doesn't need a data wipe when going from 2.2.2 to 2.3.5. May be the stock ROM is designed to work with existing data.
Wanted to confirm that the non wipe way works, all settings are saved after update to this rom/kernel...thanks !!!!
Hi, can someone explain the difference between G70XXKPF (What I'm currently on, 2.3.5) and G70ZSKP8 ? Just the included locales?

I don't think we have sufficient testing to say for sure that settings will be kept. What firmware are you using currently?

I didn't do an app by app comparison, but on the surface it looks pretty much the same to me. These ROMs were release in different parts of the world, the major difference is the language support. e.g. ZSKP8 comes with a Chinese keyboard that can do handwritten input.

Yes. It will work.
What is running on it now doesn't matter. Only what the device is matters. You confirmed that you have a compatible device.

In CWM, under the "Advanced and Debugging Menu", there is an option "Show Log". See if that can produce some useful information about what's happening.

You can only flash a P rom unless you find evidence to the contrary . Most roms are for i9100 version .
Or be a guinea pig and try .

You can flash 9100 ROM on your 9100P
But 9100 ROMs don't support NFC module (it will be supported natively with ICS).
I have the same device (orange FR) and you can look my signature for working Radio + ROM...

I dont remember
But if your device is already rooted you can install Rom manager or CWM from the market and make a backup of your config. Then reboot in CWM and install what you want (read the how to install section of the wanted rom).
Don't care about your "P" version!
What you read here for standard device (i9100) is working for your P version.

Don't use Rom Manager, use Clockwork. Rom Manager seems to not work well with the SGS2, this forum is littered with posts from people who used Rom Manager to flash and it broke CW Recovery, put the phone into a bootloop or soft brick, etc, etc.
Best to play it safe IMHO.

Oh I didn't know that rom manager was not working fine on our device. I am using clockwork manager and it is working fine.
I've seen a heap of posts in the couple of months I've been visiting this forum from people who ended up with broken CW Recovery & bootloops after using the Manager app.
I used it once to try and flash a kernel & it broke recovery completely.
Obviously any/everyone's mileage may vary, but for me, I'd rather play safe & boot into Recovery whenever I flash or backup.

Didn't say you shouldn't use it Just said that plenty of people have had problems using the app, and rather than risk it, since I had that problem with it, every time I've done a backup or flashed a rom/kernel I've rebooted into recovery & used CW Recovery itself to do the business
As I said in my previous post, your mileage may vary & you may not have any problems with it at all.

Hello guys! I have a GT-I9100P also with the latest BVKL2 2.3.6 firmware. I had it rooted when I was at BVKI3 2.3.4 firmware and now I am looking for a good CF-ROOT kernel for my phone. What would you recommend me? (what if I tell Chainfire to make a CF-ROOT more appropriate to my kernel)?

Why don't you post in Chainfire's thread to ask him about making an insecure KL2 kernel?
But I think you can use the insecure KL1 kernel from Chainfire's thread to use for root. Or you could flash SpeedMod or Siyah, and the rooting will happen for you. You have lots of options.
were to put the rom zip file
I got the exact same phone as the OP im trying to flash a rom in a zip format but clockwork mod recovery cant find the file ive looked in install from sd card and install update.zip. ive also tried installing it through rom manager, no joy there, inside rom manager i chose to boot into recovery to flash it manually and now i got a black screen with a white triangle n a lil green android dude so i see what people are saying about the s2 and rom manager, anyways my question is were do i place the zipped rom? on the internal or external and should i rename the rom file?
Ive had 2yrs experience with a HTC HD2 so im not exactly a noob to flashing roms, but the galaxy s2 is very new to me.
Alright this is my first post here..
I am a complete newbie as far android rooting and custom rom installation is concerned. I have been using Samsung galaxy ace's stock installation unrooted phone for about 6 months...after installing a few apps the phone has become sluggish..and battery drains out more quickly I can do a factory reset
but its not practical reinstalling apps again and again . I figured out custom rom is the way to go to unlock the potential of the phone but the chances of bricking my phone has stopped from taking the plunge.
I haven't yet found a recent how to root and install custom rom post for the galaxy ace S5830 ,the ones that are available are 8 -9 months old I believe a lot has changed since then
My current rom is gingerbread DDKQ6
In short this is what I want
1) Back-up the entire factory os( ie samsung touchwiz etc)..incase I screw up I can always go back.
2) root the phone
3) Install a stable and secure rom gingerbread or ics (even better) which is fast and doesn't lag after installing a few apps. without sacrificing any original features of the phone apart from touchwiz
4) a rom which has all google apps running (gmail, android market, placess, navigation ,search, youtube etc).. i noted the current ics roms for galaxy ace don't have the camera working.
Pls help.

Chances of bricking is very less. You can read the stickies in development section. All info given there. Nothing much has changed. So you can use the old posts without worry.
as you new better start with a stock custom Rom . try stocklite 6 or adrenaline Rom. you Will know what you were missing.

For flashing a rom, ALWAYS delete Dalvic cache, cache and factory reset. Remember those 3 and you can flash any rom you want. Delete these before installing the rom, then flash.
Some roms don't require you to delete one of those, but always do just for safety measures and to avoid future problems.
How do i update superuser app?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
As other users told you you can follow other guides about galaxy ace (even 11 month old, not so much have changed (for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145).
Just two advices if it's your firs experience with ROMs and root (that I learned here, and "save" my smartphone til now! )
1) To avoid lag and memory limits you should try link2sd or a2sd when yo'ull root (google for them)
2) NEVER use ROM Manager (or the CWM apk pre-installed in some ROMs) to backup your phone/intall ROMs/MOD/etc (NEVER USE IT!) because it'll brick your Ace!
Hope have helped you... Good Luck

Download Clockworkmod recovery from dev section
Install it by going to recovery-apply update then choose the sip file
Reboot
Download AOSP rom

choose AOSP rom ok?

so the backup of the stock ROM is to be taken before rooting orr after rooting?
Back up with cwm after rooting and after installing cwm. Still, the best way to return to stock is Samfirmware and flashing through Odin (u need a PC and the ace's controllers).
It's all in the forums, just don't rush to flashing stuff without an exit plan.

Try from recovery mode using cwm.zip and put the new rom in the sd card. Delete first data, cache, dalvik cache and such luke guides say.

hi everyone.i am new on this rooting and all of this stuff.i am currently owning samsung gt-i9100.it came with 2.3.3 android version.then i did this exactly 1) updated my firmware via odin.now it has android version 4.0.3,kernel version [email protected]#3,build number iml74k.xxplq. 2) then i rooted my phone.now i have cwm manager installed on my phone.it says current kernel: cf-root5.4. earlier it says that it is only compatible to version 5.5 or above and some features might get blocked.as i dnt have much knowledge in this field.so i ignored this message and carried on with my urge to install custom rom(toget rid of touchwiz).i tried to install cynogenmod7 rom(stable).everything worked right but on reboot it get stuck on that samsung galaxy logo.and i have to again restore my backup.please help me out with this.thanx in advance

dude!!
you tried to install CM7 on ICS!! Don't think this is possible... (e.g. your current predicament)
you should try CM9, custom ICS -=or=- MIUI v4 etc.
I'm currently using CM7 ^^ just installed today - forgot how smooth it is... still it's not MIUI - but it's good for a holiday
same was the case with Resurrection ICS ROM v2.0.it didnt work either.will do anything to make it work.let me try this .will tell u then.thanx a lot sir

I don't know if that is the problem, because cm7 should work with ics, at least there are videos on youtube.
