Will it ever work with Android?.
Can someone make it to work, i think that it is a money maker don't you think?
+1. Getting Sky Go to work by the back door, rather than wait for a tablet s compatible app. would be a bonus.

It is almost certain that we will never see true Silverlight on Android. It's proprietary closed-source nature means Microsoft would have to be heavily involved, which they are unlikely to do.
The alternative is Moonlight, a free software version of Silverlight, developed by Novell, and released on Linux systems. An Android port of this is technically possible, but no easy feat.
It is also worth noting that this won't allow you to view Sky Go (or Netflix) content on Android, since that service uses Silverlight's built-in DRM, a function that Microsoft will not allow the Moonlight team or any third-party to see or implement outside of their control.
Well thats a bummer ...But thanks for your reply
Maby the same reason why Windows and Android are two totally different softwares.

There you go, problem solved. (I'm from Aus, so we don't have Netflix, I just know the Web interface for Netflix apparently uses Silverlight)
There is a version of the skygo app that has been modded to run on any device. It works on my se Arc s,Archos gen 8 and galaxy tab 7 plus. It even runs with the devices rooted, although it may need to be installed before root is aquired.
Yeah as acg93 said problem with Moonlight, the open source version, is that it doesn't support Silvrrlight's DRM and therefore won't work for Lovefilm, Netflix or Sky. Best bet for these is native apps or waiting until HTML 5 video has a decent DRM solution and they adopt that.

Yea but apparently they were not able to make a Linphone client that can run in background (like Viber for example).

Actually it can run in background if you are using a linphone.org account. If you use your own sip server, indeed it wont work in background (your server won't send push notifications).

This app seems crashy. I start it, it sits at the loading screen and proceeds to crash to the start screen. I don't think its my sip server. At least OctroTalk partially worked.

Strange. I have been using this app for 2 weeks with my own server and it has never crashed..
Unfortunately, the app won't receive any calls if running in the background. However, it's still my best option for voip in WP8.
This one works good for making SIP calls. Don't work in the background though but it's better than nothing.

I have an idea for an app that is basically am anroid emulator. It doesn't emulate Android, it emulates free Android apps (can't do paid because that would be warez.) You can only use apps that you downloaded from the emulated play store (if possible)

Do you think it would be realistic for someone to create a computer application that would do most of the app-porting work for the developer?
My take on this...

My take on this is that first off by the time we implement this is in everyone will be mostly using ART. The application can work by emulating a specific Android device with all it's hardware features.
Although we should support both ART and Dalvik for legacy reasons. Not all applications/games I have bought have been from Google Play, Humble Bundle for example allows you to download .APK files direct. I was thinking that we could implement a loading system where you could load the .APK files directly into the application for Dalvik/ART to run it. Also at some stage it should be able to emulate different processor architectures including Tegra and Snapdragon as some games are exclusive to these architectures.
Since the emulator would be set on hardware we could probably trick Google Play into thinking it was a specific and allow us to downloads apps and games direct without question. As well as sideloading.
For me I do want this because I have a feeling that I do still want to play my Android games and run my Android applications even when I am fully into Android. Most of the Android technologies are open, so I can't see any huge reason why this can't work out technically.
Sorry my ideas are all over the place, new things kept popping into my mind of how to do this. I don't feel confident about coding this, but I have a rough idea of how all the pieces would connect together.
I'd love to see this, but it sounds very complex to implement. I know I'd move to Ubuntu ridonkulously fast.
Now that framework modifications are no longer working in newer Android versions, a lot of the research I have over the past few months may be of use in maintaining touchpad support.
The Sony example apps use NativeActivity and the event ID from the native side separates the event (since touchscreen events use the same handler). The trick for an app dev getting it to work was just a matter of returning a false motion event to Java and handling the input natively with a second interface set up for touchpad events. This did not change in later versions of Android. The only real change was the key layouts. In later versions of Android, they added a separate key layout for the gamepad instead of appending the default one. That is why the circle button is no longer alt + back. Instead, you have to check the device name for zeus-gamepad and then handle it as the standard back KeyCode.
You can see the code to handle touchpads in a standalone library I put together to add to reicast. This library is built independent of the emulator and allows handling the touchpads through a secondary NativeActivity that has the methods OnNativeMotion and OnNativeKeyPress handling input identified as coming from an Xperia Play.
https://github.com/reicast/reicast-emulator/blob/master/shell/android/jni/src/XperiaPlay.c
The touchpads no longer dispatch a TouchEvent because a TouchEvent was the catch all for touchscreen, touchpad, mouse interaction. When GenericMotionEvent was added, it allowed better classification of touch and move without all the extra checks and conditions.
Trying to find a workaround from the user end instead of getting the developers to use the proper code is why older apps end up broken in newer versions of Android. A lot of the developers have since moved on to other things and left the app with the hack code. Now that it is no longer possible, it may be too late to get an update with the code that works.
GameKeyboard uses the touchpad support methods and acts as a middleman to convert the interaction into something the app can handle using standard methods. A system modification would be something like that merged with something like tasker to detect when the gamepad was opened. Until that modification exists, GameKeyboard and Tasker are a fully-functional alternative.

hi,thank you for starting this thread, it's nice to se that someone is still interested in the xplay, it's still perfect for my use. i do heavy retrogaming with retroarch, plus all the new game, the walking dead, gta sa nova modern combat ecc. i'm on super jelly bean 8 with lupus 13, oc to1.4ghz for gaming with the touchpad fix,and touch pads lag as hell and make any game unplayable..
unfortunately i'm not a developer, but i will be testing of corse if you need..
This isn't really one of the threads where there will be a build or mod to download and then post error reports about. This is one of those threads (like xda used to be flooded with) meant to show people how to do things so they can add them to something or gather all the parts and build something else. It's source, instructions, and good ol' fashioned information. It's a little late, but it's all the stuff that should have been here when the games were being developed to prevent the support situation currently being faced.

Hi! Finally got my S23U and have begun setting it up.
All is good but was shocked to see the lack of multiple user feature on it. On my other android phone I create a "work" user which then has all settings/apps related to work. I can then switch amongst my profiles as needed. Note that my workplace pretty much controls the phone upon installing their security app (they could wipe out everything if need be) so these separate profiles is crucial.
I know Samsung has "secure folder" but unless I can have multiple of them it is not useful in this case. I cannot mix my personal stuff that I want to securely store with my work stuff on the same secure folder.
There are some apps on play store but are either non-standard (eg. Parallel Space) or not maintained (eg. Island).
Appreciate any suggestions.
Get a second work phone. I definitely wouldn't put their junkware on my personal phone!

Best to keep work and personal phones separate for a variety of reasons. Or simply only use/carry the work phone when at work. If your employer requires a work phone they should supply it... otherwise they shouldn't set requirements for a employee purchased phone.

Just common sense. Keep your personal and business lives separate as much as possible.
Businesses are malware targets as well. You have no choice but to download business related e-docs. On my personal devices I closely monitor any downloads. Only installed 3rd party apps carry a higher risk of infection.

That's exactly what Profiles do. They isolate and keep apps and their data separate, and do not allow apps in one profile to access data on another profile.

It also slows the phone's performance down. You're still using the same sim, ip address, hardware; not near enough isolation. I don't like the plan, sorry.

Their app was updated February of last year. My understanding is since these apps (Shelter/Island) are only making the work profile more accessible, there isn't a lot of development unless there is a major underlying change to the OS or Work Profile framework like with Android 13. The Android 13 beta was released February 10, 2022 and the last Island update was February 22, 2022.
