I'm willing to DONATE and PAY for your time - to anyone that can put together a comprehensive set of information to assist me.
I have An At&t Galaxy Note with the 4.03 I717 UCLD3 version loaded on it. I have been toying around with rooting it, and trying to load custom roms, my head is spinning with all the posts.
I'm new, and like many people I have issues when I read the posts on this forum as there is no complete guide to load a new Root, find, and load a new ROM.
When the latest ICS was released a few weeks ago, I went to upgrade and my note will not upgrade with Kies since the counter has been tripped and it has the UCLD3 version on it.
Does anyone have the best ROM to load on the note, or can you explain in clear instructions how to get it back to 100% Stock so I can upgrade with At&t ( I'd rather not this approach, I'd love to get the junky At&t stuff off )
What I'm looking for:
1. A complete guide to root, and load a ROM that has everything the stock phone has, without the At&t bloatware ( IE: 4G, Spen support, compatible with samsung apps, keyboard etc.. )
2. A guide to bring the phone and counter back to 100% stock, so that it can be upgraded by Kies if no one can provide #1 above.
Thanks - I appreciate the help.
1. Get cwm HERE the Odin version.
2.once downloaded right click Odin and run as administrator, then click on the PDA slot and load the .tar you just got
(I'm sorry i don't have s link for Odin, shouldn't be too hard to find)
3 put phone in download mode by powering off, then holding volume down and power, then when prompted volume up.
4.connect to usb that's on a usb port in the back of the pc, no front ports or hubs.
5.when you get a yellow box with a :com: number in Odin hit start.
6a.(optional).no need to root first the Rom is rooted, only reason to root first is if you want to use titanium backup to save your apps and their settings.
For root, you'll need to find the su zip that's floating around and flash that in recovery first.
6b.(also optional)boot into recovery by holding all three buttons, both volume and power, then when you feel a vibrant let go of just the power button, go to backup and restore, abs make a nandroid backup of you're current set up.
7.go here for flappjaxxx latest stock based build.
Put that on your phone someplace you can get to without a bunch of navigating. Internal or external doesn't matter.
8.boot into recovery, go to wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache.
9.go to install zip for sdcard, now if you put the Rom on external the top option "from sdcard" is what you want. If internal the one on bottom that says "from internal sdcard" navigate to where you saved it, then confirm the flash.
Once done, boot into your new Rom and enjoy,
Not completely complete, but your welcome.
No donation needed, but i won't refund it if you were to feel the need lol
Agreed. I switched to twrp but cwm recovery is more user friendly/common
Pm me if you have any?s
ok 1st u will need to download this Root/CWM/ODIN
you will 1st need to put your phone into downlaod mode: power off phone - HOLD VOL DOWN + POWER, once you get the screen that shows Press VOL UP to get to download Mode, (make sure you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed) plug in USB, you will see the COM port in yellow (it does not matter which port number) then click on PDA and navigate to the cwm-touch-i717-120409.tar.md5 and click on start, you will reboot and you have CWM installed that is used to install roms and other stuff (to get in to CWM when device is powered off HOLD VOL UP + DOWN and press the POWER until u feel the 1st vibrate, once you see the 1st Samsung logo, u can let go), then flash Flash Counter Reset through CWM (this will reset your count in ODIN so it will not void warranty. I then use TWRP Recovery Instead of CWM i like the GUI better, just flash with CWM.
ROMS: no as for roms i love Hybrid roms, which makes it a tablet and Phone, i love Paranoid Android you can download here in either ICS or JB, these are already rooted so no need to do all then.
Instructions on Installing ROMS:
1. once you download the roms, move to External SD
2. make a back up with CWM or TWRP, just click on back up and u r done. on TWRP make sure to click on all boxes.
3. Once backed up u will want to do a factory reset, wipe dalvic Cache (in cwm it is under advanced) and wipe cache partition. (some roms will have different instructions but mainly the same)
4. once you r done flashing the rom. reboot and u r done
To Go back to stock you will go here: STOCK ROMS for i717 just download the one u want and you just flash it through ODIN, but if you have CWM or TWRP there is really no need for #2.
Need some help here...
I flash the cwm using odin but then it restarts the phone right after. Then I turn the phone off and go into recovery and I still see the stock recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW the flash count is also going up each time I do it.

Ok as stupid as I'm sure I will sound I tried installing a ROM for the 2nd time onto my Note and I thought I did as I was supposed to but, somehow I ended up with no OS and when I go to reboot it says are you sure you would like to reboot you have no OS installed. I have read a few threads on here but, not enough help has been provided to help me out of my situation. Also I can open my TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) by holding Power button and Volume Down and releasing when Samsung appears but, IDK what I should do?! I do have a 32GB SD card but, nothing is on it.

If you perform an advanced wipe in twrp and check the "system" box, you erase your OS. You now have to flash a new rom. Make sure it's for your specific device. Check the back of the device behind the battery for your model number. Search the development sections and pick a rom to flash. Download it and transfer it to your memory card. Install it, and all should be fine!

Ok I see what you mean kinda but, where would I go to download a custom ROM that you're talking about don't you have to be rooted? If so how am I going to be rooted again if I don't have an OS already installed to work with?
You need to hold power, volume up, and volume down for recovery. Holding power and volume down takes you into download mode.

If you have an SGH-i717 then you can download roms from here and here. Look for threads that say [Rom], read the first few posts to see what's included, and how to install them. Some roms require flashing additional files. Once you chose your rom download all files to sd card and insert into phone. Then boot into twrp recovery by holding volume up+down and install rom as directed.

Ok will my computer read my device as normal when in download mode that way I can put the files on the sd card cause, I don't have an sd card adapter that plugs into my computer to use? I put it into download mode a minute ago without being plugged in and it said something about 2 counts?
Let me straighten you out.
Download mode (power and volume down) is for installing stock tar ROMs from places like sammobile.com and samsung-updates.com with Odin. ROMS will have a .tar suffix. Or for installing custom recoveries like CWM or TWRP with Odin. As far as you are concerned that should be all Download mode is used for. It will not allow you to put ROMs on your microSD card to flash with TWRP.
Now if you have ROMs in zip form on your internal or externalSD then you can use your custom recovery (power, volume down, and volume up) if you even have custom recovery installed. I really don't know if you do since you have no idea how to access it and have it confused with Download Mode.
Right now you have 2 options.
1) Download a stock ROM with your pc from 1 of the 2 sites I mentioned and use your PC in conjuction with Odin to flash that ROM to your phone in Download Mode and start all over with rooting and installing custom ROMs.
2) Get an adapter or put that microSD card in another device that you can use to transfer a custom ROM to your microSD card to flash with TWRP.
Do yourself a favor and read some stickies.

Ok I understand a lot more now I have downloaded the stock rom for my note using the SamMobile site and I also have odin but, how do I flash the rom to my device using download mode?
Install Samsung Kies on your computer to get the USB drivers
Unzip the ROM you downloaded to get to the ROM in .tar form
Put your phone in Download Mode
Run Odin as administrator on your computer
Connect your phone to computer with USB
You should see a blue or yellow box on screen showing it is connected and recognized
Select PDA and navigate to the .tar ROM you downloaded
Do not check or uncheck anything else
Hit Start and follow directions
I suggest you do some more reading before you attempt anything in the future so you are familiar with proper names and techniques.

slow down. take your time here. don't worry about flashing any or too many extras. follow these basic steps suggested by AGOATTAMER.
run the processes through in you head and again, go slow.
I was very hesitant in doing this the first time. there are tutorals on Youtube also and they can help with the confidence thing.

Thanks everyone for your help I have now got my back to factory condition now.
Hi,
I am aware of the threads suggesting how to fix the phone stuck at the Samsung Boot Logo. Do factory reset is one option, but this would erase all the personal data in the phone including the photos.
I was able to get into the recovery mode and download mode of the phone. I tried wipe cache partition option in the recovery mode but still no joy. (I couldn't find the option for Wipe dalvik cache though)
I was able to detect the phone in recovery mode via ADB using USB cable. But I was struggling to get ADB to connect with the phone using the command prompt. So I was unable to recover the data/photos in the phone before going down the route of factory reset it.
I saw a few software on the internet claiming they are able retrieve photos/data from soft bricked phone. Can anyone confirm/suggest whether these claims are true? (e.g. REMO Recover for android and Yodot Recover)
thanks in advance.
cheers.

Have you tried mounting your phones storage (also known as USB storage) in the mounts and storage menu (CWM recovery)? (Assuming you have custom recovery) Works everytime with my phone and no adb drivers required! If you haven't install custom recovery, you can google philz recovery and flash it via ODIN. Then you should be able to mount your phone's storage and retrieve and important photos and etc. Factory reset won't delete any photos and videos. It will delete ALL apps and related data and settings, but not important pictures and etc. But try what I suggested first before attempting factory reset.
Oh... I wish I can use CWM recovery. However, this S2 phone has not been rooted. So it is on original firmware. Can I still root it then install CWM recovery without losing media data?
Also, I thought factory reset will clear the phone to factory status, i.e. no photos and any media file? (more precisely, I think there is no option to just do factory reset without wiping data)
I remember that's what happened to my S4 before when testing root/roms (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+-+Wipe+Data+-+Factory+Reset/23217)

yes, you can still root your phone and won't lose your data. If you are on stock jb 4.1.2, you can install siyah kernel 6.0b5 on your phone via ODIN (that means you need to download the tar file one here: http://d-h.st/frK). Your phone should be rooted and have CWM recovery after that. If you have 4.0.4 stock ics, you can install siyah 5.0.1 onto your phone (download link: http://d-h.st/Bcf) via ODIN.
In odin, select the tar file under PDA then click start. Your phone should reboot automatically once done
Nice one!!
I successfully flash siyah 5.0.1 onto the phone and managed to get back the media files I wanted to backup using USB mass storage function in Recovery mode.
But then I got another question. I guess it is because the stock ROM installed version does not play nicely with the kernel. (As I cannot remember which android version it has before I flash Siyah kernel onto it). It just won't boot up. It went passed the Samsung boot screen (with yellow triangle), then the Siyah logo flashed a few times, then the screen went black out, the phone was super hot and I have to take the battery out to turn it off.
I haven't tried to factory reset in Siyah's recovery mode yet, but before I do it, I suspect that it won't work, as I assume the android ROM version will still be the same even if I factory reset it. Should I go get another ROM to flash instead? if so, which one is recommended (I'd love to go to lollipop if that's available.)
As I never played with custom kernel/recovery, can someone point me to the right direction? Should I flash another more up-to-date kernel before I try to flash a lollipop ROM onto it? (I believe Siyaho 5.0.1 is only good for ICS?)
Newbie here. I have been reading thru different threads
and for someone like me who have zero idea about rooting phones
or about all the terms used.. I somehow got to the point of
1. Downloaded latest version of ODIN
2. Reinstalled USB Drivers for Mobile phone in my laptop.
3. Still looking for Siyah? or CWM to flash on my phone?
-this is where I am stuck
I have tried the link you provided @gsstudios,
but it only gave me NARUTO's picture when I extracted the file.
anyway my problem is, I have a
SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 GT-19100
>already rooted before (don't have any idea with what)
>stuck on boot LOOP with triangle thing
>RECOVERY MODE (not possible)
>DOWNLOAD MODE (accessible)
wanted to retrieve all the photos/videos saved from internal storage
don't care if phone will get fix or not (since I already have a new one)
But I need all the photos, & if possible contacts and other data saved there.
PLEASE I NEED HELP
I went to the service center and asked if they can help me atleast access CWM recovery
to use USB MOUNT on device but all they've told me over and over is
"we will wipe your phone to fix it"
"not possible to recover anything,we'll just reformat your phone to fix it"

Thanks. I tried again the link on the Siyah 5.0.1 you added earlier but there is only one download button (blue one) and again nothing extracted.
I have a question though. Since my phone is rooted already before and working fine,
and 2years later got stuck to bootloop and only have DOWNLOAD MODE access,
do I still root my phone again with the link you have provided (siyah)
or should I just flash my phone with a CWM recovery to access USB MOUNT on my phone?
also, from the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lz-cwm6-stock-kernel-cwm6-root-exfat-t1877270)
which one should I flash my phone with? I am reading thru it, for like 3 times already
and still don't get any idea which one to download. T_T

Did you read this bit:
What kernel to choose:
The important part is the Kernel code:
XWLPX-NEE
Kernel code is in red (LPX), for this example, you need an LPX ROM. However, often, you can mix kernels when they are close: LPF kernel with LPG ROM...
NEE code doesn't matter at all, I add it for reference. It is the CSC
XW: mixed, often doesn't matter for close regions. For example, XW and XX are often interchangeable. However, mixing a BU with an XW ROM or inversly, sometimes works, but often ends in a bootloop. In that case, either boot into recovery or download mode to reflash

The last three letters before the region code is important. Choose the one that is closest to yours (look at the build number in the about device menu).
As for the first question, it's all up to you. Flashing siyah kernel or CWM will both give you a recovery, so either one will allow you to access your phone storage in the mounts menu. Remember that Android version is important as you can't flash a jellybean kernel on ics and vice versa.
gsstudios
Edit: Also, NEVER extract kernel zips or tar files. They are ready to be flashed. There should be a few folders and other files in it that makes up the kernel image.

I guess it will be hard for me to do that since I can't really check what kernel I had before
I've absolutely no access to my device nor open "ABOUT DEVICE" menu.
Tried to see if a clue might be at the back of my phone but alas, nothing there.
All i know for sure is my device was on ICS. will try my luck on ICS compatible CWM or Siyah. thanks again!
Hi to all, im having problems with my s2. Ive been on jb custom rom, then i switch to slimlp. I didnt like it so i decide to flash original samsung fw with odin(4.1.2). Now im stuck on samsung logo bootloop, try 3 different 4.1.2 and 4.0.4 fw (from sammobile), always stuck on logo. Second problem is that i cant go to recovery because my home button is broken, i have usb jig so i can go into download mode only. So is there a way to fix this, or how to go to cwm without home button?
It sounds to me like you need to be able to wipe cache and data from recovery which you can't access because of the broken button.
You have 2 options......
1) If USB debugging is enabled, you can connect your device to a pc/laptop and use ADB to issue a command to the phone to reboot into recovery (I don't know the exact wording needed for the command, but searching XDA or Google should provide results).
2) you could try flashing a firmware that wipes and formats the data partitions during the flash instead of simply 'overwriting' the software that is already installed.....
These firmwares *do* exist.....they're called 'test, leak or engineer' firmwares.
You can find one (and it's flashing instructions) here......

Hi guys, I have a Samsung A50 of my dad which he recently bought from a store. He works on a financial company and while being there he used
this phone to keep his company data which in some cases are also costumer data which he doesn't afford to lose. On an evening night m mischievous little cousin got his phone
and on the try to open the phone to find games he entered a pattern wrong multiple times which made to lock the phone. I have been searching for things to get this phone unlocked but I don't seem
to find any successful methods.
I get to see a `Lockscreen_FIXER.zip` (from 2014, 8 years ago) but I seem to not be able to flash it. I can successfully boot into recovery mode but can not flash it for some reason, I also put the `.zip` file to the `sd card` or tried `adb` with `adb solidate Lockscreen_FIXER.zip` but either that didn't work out as I clicked "apply update with adb" on recovery mode.
Is there any method to bypass this lockscreen only for once at last?! Thanks so much!!
Hey
Im not an expert i want to point out first
But i anyway want to give my opinion in hopes i can help a little bit
First: this isn't the correct place to post troubles like so, you have a safer bet on posting this on "Question & answers"
Second: If its only data and not apps
You can try properly flashing Twrp because unless the file is no longer supported to get past Android 11 lockscreen
Then its the Twrp you installed
Then connect your phone to your pc
If you have the correct drivers you should be able to see your files in file explorer then copy and paste everything important to your desktop
Then in Twrp just Factory reset so you can use your phone once again
If you cant afford to lose your apps as well
Then you're out of luck on that one buddy

Second: If its only data and not apps
You can try properly flashing Twrp because unless the file is no longer supported to get past Android 11 lockscreen
Then its the Twrp you installed
Then connect your phone to your pc
If you have the correct drivers you should be able to see your files in file explorer then copy and paste everything important to your desktop
Then in Twrp just Factory reset so you can use your phone once again
If you cant afford to lose your apps as well
Then you're out of luck on that one buddy

Hello @Nashiro10, thanks for your reply. Okay I will ask in the proper place next time.
I see, at this point I care much more about data inside the phone rather than apps. I have a question when it comes to flash ".zip" files. How do I do it? In my recovery mode I got only "Apply Update with adb and sd card" and these two options needs an OTAPACKAGE as an update. Or I can do the flash using Odin while phone is in the "downloading mode"?
Thank you for your time!

If you want to flash Zip files then you have to do it through Twrp (Twrp being a custom recovery which you can find on this section) since its easier and you have a higher chance that if something goes wrong with the install you'll have an error code
And It know hows to handle more custom style of Files so its probably the stock recovery you're using doesn't know how yo work with the zip file you're giving it
And as far as im aware Odin only works to install system important files (STOCK SYSTEM, recoveries, Data, internal data, etc)
And also used to flash Twrp via Odin
BUT!
What i forgot to ask is that if you have OEM unlock activated in developer settings?
If you dont then you're out of choices because you wont be able to flash your zip file and you wont be able to flash twrp
Which leaves you to restoring your phone with Odin
Dont know if you can access your phone's data through the stock recovery
But if you can then do what i said in the first post then factory reset the phone through recovery

No, I don't have OEM unlocked because my dad populated the phone with data in a short time and to do the OEM unlocking you have to factory reset the phone and OEM Unlock. Idk either if I can recover data using adb because I cannot connect the phone with adb(unless I select "apply update using adb").
It seems I don't have so much choices and if I'm forced to do the factory reset then I will do it...
I don't know how some phone service stations can unlock the phone... what do they do lol magic? Because I had another phone which couldn't boot and they fixed it.
