Compatible ROMs for Pokemon Go? - AT&T LG Optimus G

I have my old reliable Optimus G sitting around and had given it to my kid as a WiFi Pokemon Go Device. A few updates ago, it stopped working with Pokemon Go. I've tried flashing a bunch of different ROMs from the this forum on it and I can't get it to work with Pokemon Go now for him, so he's been using my current phone.
Anyone know of any roms and the tweaks needed to get this working again?

So, I finally got this working just a few minutes ago. There's a few steps, but I should be able to get you going.
Note: Any time something asks for su privileges, grant them. Especially if it's asking for 'Forever'.
1) You will want to use the latest Dirty Unicorns rom. So, flash that, with the GApps they recommend, etc. Make sure you do a factory wipe.
2) Update all the apps, including SuperSU (don't worry about the out of date su binary.)
3) Install Magisk Manager. Go to the Install section, and attempt to install (this will fail, but it will save the magisk zip on the internal storage.
4) Reboot into recovery, and install the magisk v11.6 zip. (It should be under /storage/emulated/0/MagiskManager/Magisk-v11.6.zip) Reboot.
5) Go into Magisk Manager -> Settings, and toggle 'Magisk Hide'.
6) Go into SuperSU (Settings -> SuperSU in this rom) and then go to Settings -> Full Unroot. Wait for this to finish. Reboot.
7) Got back into Magisk Manager, and then run the SafetyNet check. This will fail, but it should say, 'Basic Integrity: true'. (Previously that was false.)
8) Install Pokemon Go, login, and you're golden! :highfive:
For anyone looking to be able to use an old phone to GPS Spoof, the additional steps require are below.
9) Install Fake GPS Joystick. Once it installs, tap 'start' in the upper right. This will ask if you want to enable Mock Locations in the Developer Settings. Click the link, and do what it said to do.
Voila, you're all set.
Now, a note. I've notice there's some real lag on this phone playing pokemon go, compared to the Nexus 5 my wife has. It's not unplayable but it is a little annoying.

Method for getting Hulu working?

I want to try to replicate hulu on the 3d like the 4g.
Here is the difficulty, which may not be resolved until perm root or a work around to refreshing system apps.
To get this to work, I need to do the following:
1. Use root uninstaller to uninstall flash player
2. Use root uninstaller to uninstall flash lite. (After 4 months, finally notice that it was still installed)
3. Go to Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All> locate all of your browsers and clear cache, clear info.
4. restart phone (only way to install modified flash player after uninstall)
5. Install hacked 10.3 or whatever you want, then install hulu.apk (no link to files google them)
6. Do not restart phone
7. Open stock browser
8. Type "about:debug" in URL, then hit enter
9. Go to menu>settings and set "UAString" to "Desktop" (if you don't see UAString, repeat 7 & 8)
10. Exit back to browser, go to a full webpage. (ex: http://www.google.com)
11. Repeat step 7 and Clear all the following; all cookie data, cache, history, form data, password, location access.
12. Exit back to browser
13. finally go to hulu and test it out
but the main issue is that I can't restart the phone so that I can install modified flash player. Fast reboot does not refresh the system apps, so unless someone makes one that does without loosing perm-temp root, then I'm stuck.
any help would be appreciated.
I used titanium to uninstall flash then installed modded flash and hulu works fine. When you uninstall with titanium you don't need to reboot.

Hide root DME (Excitor)

Hello,
I wish to install (and use) the application DME Excitor (corporate emails) but it is detecting the root in some way.
I have a i9100 device with cm9.1 (latest stable one) & siyah kernel 5.0.1.
I've also made sure (using ExTweaks) that the kernel is not re-rooting the device every boot.
I've tried to remove the root using "Hide my root" / "ExTweaks" / "SuperSU" - and others that say they will hide the root - so far with no success!!!
Can you please suggest how to prevent DME from detecting my root?
I really don't mind unrooting the device - but please do not suggest me to return to stock!
Any help will be highly appreciated! :good::good::good:

sorry - no success yet
In case you find any way, please let me know
In my case it was a combination of:
1. Install SuperSU only on /data, not on /system - there's an option for that in SuperSU
2. Uncheck "Enable Superuser" in SuperSU settings
3. Reboot device

Did you tried it with DME ?
By default, installing the SuperSU from the play store is in '/data' (you can later change that option in settings to be set on '/system')
Anyway, tried that, didn't worked.
Any help would be highly appreciated. :good:
I wouldn't have posted the solution above if I hadn't tried it first with the program in question (DME). Make sure there's no /system/app/Superuser.apk (by installing SuperSU / Superuser only on /data) and also make sure to uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option within SuperSU.

Hi,
First of all thanks for trying to help.
There's no any Superuser.apk in /system/app/ (that's the first thing I've checked).
And I did made sure to uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option within SuperSU.
Still doesn't work.
If you don't mind me asking, could you please provide me with more details on your firmware?
Which rom are you using (is it Cyanogenmod)?
Special kernel?
CWM ?
Any details would help.
And once again, thanks!
Stock Samsung (XWLSS) firmware rooted via SuperSU CWM method, then uninstalled SuperSU via "Reinstall" option in SuperSU, then install SuperSU from the Play store, then uncheck the "Enable Superuser" option in SuperSU, then reboot. At this point DME will start and ask for credentials.

Thanks for the info.
I was afraid that you would note you're using a rooted stock firmware.
The thing is that by going back to stock rom, there's no need to root it and then unroot it to use the DME (simply use the stock firmware unrooted).
The first post on this thread was a question on how to use the DME on different rom than the stock one (such as CM).
After that being said, I would like to thank you for trying, but this didn't help me, since I wish to use the Cyanogenmod rom and DME together.
If you still have any suggestions on how to use the DME with a non-stock rom, I would be more than happy to hear.
I don't see how running CM is any different than running official. You should check that after disabling Superuser from within SuperSU that there is no "su" binary anywhere within the directories in the PATH variable (i.e. /system/bin or /system/xbin).
Is dual booting a stock/cm setup possible, and would that serve as a "workaround"?
Edit...just thought....even if possible, the dual boot kernel would probably give the game away....

Can someone please let me know how to install superSU in /data. As If I instal UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip by using PhilZ-cwm6. It is installed by default in /system.
If I install it using Playstore it does the same got installed in /system. and further conflicts with SU installed by PhilZ-cwm6.

Virelauncher and Google Play Store broken?

I followed these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-supersu-stable-appstore-custom-t3113311 and everything was working fine for a few a while and was even able to have the latest playstore and play services working fine! However today, the play store was booting to white however I could swipe right and the options would appear (With a lot of options missing) indicating it wasn't frozen or anything, eventually I got bored of waiting to see if it'll load and played some games, after an hour or so later a game I was playing froze and I rebooted my Fire HD, and upon doing so Virelauncher appears to have been broken, it launches to solid black (sometimes the kindle default background grey colour) however i can still open up the mini dock and open up apps or swipe down and get into settings yet virelauncher is still broken, I think sometimes it straight up crashes and tries to re-open because I see the orange circle loading animation for a few seconds but it just goes black again, anything I could do? Is it bricked?

So I just encouraged you to update to 4.5.4 over in the rooting thread, but seeing this I think you should hold off. This could all be Gapps, but I can't say.
Please clarify: 12 hours ago you posted (in rooting) that you wanted to update play store, yet here you say that for a while you were "even able to have the latest playstore and play services working fine!." Was that a couple hours or a couple days? Did you reboot during that time and everything stayed fine, or was this your first reboot after services update? thx.

It was a good 10+ hours, a few reboots had occurred during then which is why I'm not sure what happened, Virelauncher appears to be working now though and I don't know how it fixed itself just left it on charge, since everything but playstore is working fine right now what do you recommend I do from here? A step to step guide would be great so no issues occurs this time lol.
But yeah I was able to update the store and services fine and they worked for hours until it went blank though everything else that needs the new services continues to work fine (youtube etc), I haven't tried reinstalling the old versions yet in case it made things worse
Edit, I just managed to replicate the Vire Launcher crashing which was from the game Yugioh Duel Generation by trying to click the premium tab, so beware of that anyone else who maybe reading, Maybe I should try installing a different launcher? Either way I'd really love a step by step guide for what to do from here on as the other tutorials seem to use things that the tutorial I used didnt use or mention.
Your edit sounds like it must be Gapps. When the play store is broken, anything you do in an app that would use the store will fail. Don't know why the failure shows up as launcher crash, but I wouldn't do anything that might use the store until this is sorted out.
You could either roll back to older play services and store or update to 4.5.4 and install new Gapps. I'm not sure I can help with either one. For the update you need TWRP and I have only installed it using TWRP manager from the playstore, which you can't use. To rollback you will need to uninstall play services and store, at least, plus reverse other changes you made when you rooted. Others have more experience with that than I do.
Rollback would be less likely to threaten root or a brick, so suggest you post asking for help with that. @AlbusAngelus did a lot of work on play services/store and may be able to help you.

Ok thanks, since everything besides the playstore is working now and vire launcher stable yet again, I'll make another post about rolling back to the older services, if you remember anything else that can help feel free to share, otherwise thanks for the information.
Edit Virelauncher is dead again after trying to boot Digimon Heroes which used to play just fine, might also be related to the store like you said... now I have to wait for vire launcher to fix it self all over again, until it fixed itself, I would also love to know how to change from vire launcher to Nova Launcher since I hear it's very recommended.

Still having no luck with finding someone who knows how to rollback to a working gapps without breaking more/bricking, however I believe I can indeed confirm that it seems that Google Play store or Google Services is causing the Vire Launcher crash loop, during a crash loop I force stopped both and then Vire Launcer was able to stop crash looping and run again.

OK. I used Flashify on another device and can tell you how to install TWRP so you can update to 4.5.4, if you want to try. There's always risk. You decide.
1. Get the apk for Flashify, sideload to Fire and install it. (Sideload. Don't try to use play store, right?)
2. Go to bibikalka's root page and download the attachment. (This is JMZ's TWRP img, "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.6.0-ariel.img". You can thank him here).
3. Move or copy twrp img to download folder on tablet.
4. Disconnect from computer.
5. On tablet, open Flashify and give it SuperUser access when prompted. It probably will also prompt to apply loki patch for Kitkat. Say yes.
6. Select "Recovery Image" and select "Choose a File." Navigate to where you put the twrp img file and select it.
7. Flashify will ask if you are sure you want to do this. If you are, select "Yup!" and it should do the install. Exit Flashify (or it may offer to reboot. Don't remember.)
8. Reboot to recovery and see if TWRP is displayed: Power off tablet. Then hold down power and volume-up at same time until you see “Amazon” and then let go.
- If you see TWRP, press "reboot" and then "system." Now you can follow bibikalka's instructions to update and install Gapps. Let me know if you need step-by-step.
- If you get stock recovery screen ("reboot" and "factory reset"), TWRP didn't install. Press reboot and confirm you can get back into Fire.
- If you just boot back into Fire, you didn't power off first.
Good luck. Keep me posted.

This probably should have been an edit but this way you'll get notified, I was able to follow those steps and TWRP appears to be working! Oh, great! You will love how nicely Gapps works on 4.5.4. (Thank you @bibikalka!)
[EDIT2 - September 26, 2015] These steps and the post that links to them are essentially obsolete. If you want to stay on OS 4, follow bibikalka's recommendation in linked post to update to OS 4.5.5.
[EDIT1] This was written for someone with non-working Play Store and ES File Explorer installed. It's now been edited for people who get here from bibikalka's "Upgrade to 4.5.4 and keep TWRP and root" guide and don't have Gapps installed yet.
These are bibikalka's instructions from [upgrade guide] but without b's edits and with a little more detail. This doesn't wipe /data so your apps should all be fine, just finally work.
Install JMZ's Fire tool.
Download the following to Fire's Download folder (or download to computer and copy to Download folder).

Boot to TWRP: (a) Power off tablet. (b) Hold down power and volume-up buttons at same time until you see “Amazon,” then release.
Install the 4.5.4 update: (a) Tap Install, (b) navigate to Download folder if needed, (c) tap the zip (twrp_ready_update-kindle . . .) and swipe "swipe to confirm flash."
Note: If you don't see the zips, use button at lower-right to toggle between Zips and Images

edit actually only thing I found that doesn't work is the Silk Browser, which crashes on startup, but that's not really an issue as I can install Chrome or Firefox anyway but might as well mention it.
Hi, may be a stupid question. But how to install TWRP?
I tried, sideloaded apk but TWRP manager does not run (7.5.1.3).
So I tried to flash from fast boot, but nothing for this error "FAILED (remote: flashing not allowed for locked hw)".
Any help?
Thank' for your post.

OK, I found solution myself. AS also posted in forum, I used Flashify apk (sideloaded) and installa TWRP shared by @bibikalka!. Thank's to all for your work.
This is all great but @bibikalka's 4.5.4 custom file is getting a 429 error at dropbox. Is there a mirror somewhere, or should I just keep trying? Thanks to you both for putting this together, very helpful!

Right. Link became unusable. I uploaded it to my Google Drive, here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5VDSXB6iXSmUzBOaXdGRVRsUlk/view?usp=sharing. You'll be first to download. Let me know if any problems. thx
EDIT: @meatwad12: If you haven't downloaded yet, wait. Seems to be problem with Silk. I'm uploading my own file. Will let you know when done.

Yeah, I actually found a mirror in the other thread and was running with it, but I'm having a few issues. Silk doesn't work at all, and a recently purchased Kindle book isn't showing in my cloud library. Although old books are there and can download, the purchase from yesterday will not. Maybe related to silk issue? I'll wait for your new mirror and reinstall. Thanks.

My zip is per Bibikalka's original instructions. Bibi deleted a few more apps in the first file you downloaded, so my zip is slightly larger and there is less room in /system. Still, the pico gapps fits.
Please let me know if this fixes silk and books. Thanks.

Well, it fixed silk (kind of). However, whenever I boot it keeps returning me to the "welcome" Please select your language screen... over and over and over. Ha. Something else need enabled to get this to go away?
I was able to access silk in between one of these loops and it appeared to work.
EDIT: I should probably clarify that I'm not really interested in any custom launcher. The stock Kindle launcher is different from my other android tablets and I don't mind it. I just am trying to get access to the play store with GAPPS and the stock stuff be stable (especially Instant Video). Seems like this is close to happening.

You'll probably find that some or many Google apps don't work from stock launcher, while most things Amazon, including books and video work fine from a custom launcher. But first lets finish getting you set up. Please post back after following steps in link. Take it slowly if unsure and let me know if questions.

(Tutorial) Installing Viper4Android on J5 2016 (Magisk Module method)

Warning: I am not responsible if following this guide sends your phone into bootloops, summons demons from the 7th levels of hell, etc. Understand that I am fairly noob, and I spent several days, read fifty guides, and performed a hundred firmware flashes back to stock to finally get V4A working on my J510GN.
UPDATE 10/01/17: Added steps for disabling SoundAlive / Adaptsound (not sure if necessary but it probably is so do it)
THIS IS FOR STOCK MARSHMALLOW 6.0.1
Requirements:
1: A stock rom of your device if something goes wrong (save it on your PC)
2: (Optional, but freaking do it) a backup of your apps/settings BEFORE YOU CONTINUE (I use TWRP backup and just choose "Data")
2: TWRP (I used TWRP_3.0.2_SM_J510_2016_Recovery.tar, found here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/aqxjqor6bllaorh/Root+Files+SM-J510-2016-Android+6.0.1.rar )
3: Magisk-v10.2 (XDA thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445) (I used the flashable .zip)
4: Viper4Android APK **THAT MATCHES THE V4A MAGISK MODULE VERSION** (Link below)
5: An app to disable/freeze system apps, like Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox.
Notes:
If you are already rooted with SuperSU and not phh SuperUser, this guide may or may not work if you follow the steps completely. I personally went into a recovery loop when trying to flash Magisk while SuperSU was already installed on my phone, even though the Magisk XDA thread says that it is possible to do this. If you already have SuperSU root, you can continue following my guide, but you'll probably get best results if you just un-root SuperSU, do a clean factory restore, and continue with Magisk + phh SuperUser only.
Steps:
1: Use Odin to install TWRP on your device. Read a guide on using Odin if you've never used it, but basically just connect your phone to your PC via USB, boot your phone into download mode (volume down+home+power on my J510), open Odin on your PC, click the AP button, choose the TWRP tar, disable "Auto-Reboot" in Odin options, then click Start. Wait for it to finish, then exit Odin, pull the battery out of your phone for about 10 seconds, and pop the battery back in.
2: Reboot into TWRP recovery (volume up+home+power on my J510). Go to Install, then find the Magisk zip on your phone (because you transferred it to your SDcard earlier, right?). Flash that shiz! Optional: Wipe dalvik/cache, but not always necessary. Reboot your phone when its done.
3: Open Magisk app on your phone, and update from the Google Play Store if prompted.
4: Download phh SuperUser from Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser&hl=en). We are doing this because Magisk already rooted your phone with a built-in phh SuperUser, but now you need the official phh SuperUser app on your phone. Because.
5: Go to Magisk > Settings, and check "Enable BusyBox" (I'm not 100% positive if this is necessary, but do it because I did it and my V4A works now)
6: Reboot your phone
7: Open your app to disable system apps (Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox). Do an app search for "AdaptSound" and "SoundAlive". Freeze and/or uninstall any apps associated with those. "SplitSound" is okay, its not relevant. SOME guides recommend going into your /system/audio/ and renaming audio.conf to audio.conf.bak, but this is not necessary because we are systemlessly rooted and installing a systemless version of V4A.
8: Go to Magisk > Downloads, scroll down until you find the Viper4Android FX module. Download/install it with Magisk, and reboot your phone.
9: Download the Viper4Android .apk THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE MAGISK V4A MODULE. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you touch the module after its downloaded and check the Information button, it should automatically open your device browser to the correct download link, but here it is just incase you want the .apk ready: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=31297853226564193
10: Install the .apk, DO NOT OPEN VIPER4ANDROID YET. Go to your phones settings > apps > app permissions, and allow Viper4Android to access your storage.
11: Open Viper4Android, check driver status. It should say "Normal", because the Magisk V4A module already installed the correct drivers for you.
12: The V4A UI is extremely easy and a monkey could understand it, so just play with the settings while you are playing your favourite songs.
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
If something goes wrong during any of the steps, I have no clue what happened. The best advice I can give is to: Reboot into recovery (which your phone is probably already doing), wipe your data/cache/system, Odin back to your stock firmware, re-install TWRP with Odin, reboot into TWRP, and recover your data backup to re-install all your apps/phone settings.
How to use V4A with PowerAmp
PowerAmp is personally my favorite music player for Android, because it has an amazing equalizer and sound settings, but if you want to use V4A sound processing while playing songs in PowerAmp, do this:
Go to PowerAmp Settings > Audio > Advanced Tweaks
Disable Direct Volume Control
(For some devices): Disable OR enable MusicFX. Some people say that disabling OR enabling MusicFX makes V4A start processing audio from PowerAmp. Personally, I did not notice any audio difference whether MusicFX was enabled or disabled.
Just to be safe, not sure if it makes a difference:
Go to PowerAmp Settings > Audio > Output > (Your output choen, whether Java based or OpenSL ES) > Headset
Enable "No DVC", "No Headroom Gain", and "No Equ/Tone"
Possible Problems with PowerAmp:
"I started playing a song in PowerAmp, with V4A power enabled, and I don't hear a difference in my music"
Check the Driver Status in V4A. Does it say "Abnormal" and/or "Processing: No" ? Don't worry, your drivers aren't corrupted. Try exiting V4A with PowerAmp still open, pause your song, re-open V4A, and start playing your song in PowerAmp. Now check Driver status in V4A, it should say normal. If no, try rebooting your phone, then open V4A and make sure power is "on". Then open PowerAmp and start playing a song. Check back in V4A under driver status, it should say "Processing: Yes" and "Driver: Normal". Try switching to FX Compatible mode, reboot your phone, switch to FX Normal mode, and reboot again. Make sure you disabled DVC in PowerAmp. Basically, just keep closing and turning things on/off again until it works, I dunno.
Using V4A with Spotify
If you want Viper4Android to process music from Spotify, you need to go into Viper's Settings > FX Compatible Mode > Compatible. Compatible mode will process STREAMING audio, Normal mode will process LOCAL audio.

My phone processes all the sound in any application, only disadvantage with magisk is that viper4 2.5 does not detect the library, ask to install it on the system partition.

Do you know if this works with Stock Marshmallow on J510FN? Sat for eight hours yesterday with all methods and just want to check if anyone has tried it with this?

Best custom rom for Samsung s9 plus ?

Hello I would like to know what custom rom for the samsung s9 plus is the best
And is this rom that you have chosen is available with automatic updates so without re flashing the whole system?
thank you in advance
Have a good day
Unfortunetly you'll be only able to use LineageOS if you want that and LineageOS is not really that good. Let's say it's very basic..
However, if you want to have the best performance, you would have to do a bit of work and stop being lazy for once (or at least till Bliss Rom dev's fix their stupid updater app, which they took down because it was causing problems with downloading updates)
Here's what I use....
I run Bliss ROM (Android 11 GSI rom) and it gives me like whole 2 days on battery while only using the phone for social media and writing SMS (I also have the smart "clear view standing cover" on)
How to install GSI ROM (tutorial by HighOnAndroid) and
here is the official GSI ROM I used (download the version with arm64-bgZ in the file name!!! already has gapps!!)
This firmware is pre-rooted and you should use Magisk with this firmware.
Other useful stuff:
SAFETY-NET Magisk MODULE
- after installing it, open termux app and do the following
1. type su
2. type props (wait till it shows something. if now, hit enter again)
3. select option "Edit Device Fingerprint"
4. select option "Pick a certified fingerprint"
5. select option "Samsung"
6. select option where s9+ is listed and has exact same model in name like your phone has
7. I don't know if you have to confirm there something or not but I guess you can exit termux
8. Go to Magisk, settings, activate magisk hide, select option "Hide Magisk Manager" and rename the Magisk Manager to any random name. For example I named mine "KAREN call Manager"
9. after the spoofed magisk manager app launches, go to magisk hide module and select everything that is listed in the Google Play Services app.
10. enjoy?
(root) Adblock for Android
- useful if you download stuff from internet
- can be temporary deactivated
You can run the phone on stock Kernel but if you don't want to or want some extra features like Wireguard Support, flash any AOSP Android 11 compatible Kernel. However, I'm running on the stock kernel and I didn't face any issues there..
After installing the firmware, go to
settings -> Phh Treble Settings -> Samsung Features -> Enable stereo audio mode
This will allow your phone to play music from bottom and ear-peace speaker at the same time without any magisk/root modules or apps
To update the ROM, you DON'T have to wipe your phone or fear that the img file will erase your phone.
Just go on TWRP to install, select the img (system image) file and just flash that motherfu**er.
If dev's fix the updater app, you'll just need to install the update via their app, reboot or hot-reboot the phone...
