5ghz hotspot in official MM. - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a problem which I cannot make hotspot by using 5ghz band. I found that my second phone which is LG G3 have an option to choose 5ghz band as hotspot. Is there anyway to make it happen?

No 802.11n wifi on 5 GHz?

Anyone else confirm?
I'm seeing that this will not connect to my 802.11n network, won't even see it in fact, that runs on 5GHz. Connects to 2.4GHz networks fine.
Looking at spec sheet, no frequency is listed. I would assume as with most devices it is 2.4 only? Gonna test it here in a few myself.
I don't know of any mobile device that supports 802.11n dual band. All the phones/tablets only use 2.4 ghz band for 802.11n as far as I can tell.

My Galaxy Tab 7 supports 802.11n on 5 GHz, though only some of the channels my router supports.
I have not been able to get my Photon to connect to the Wireless N network on my router, only the Wireless G network. Not sure what's up with that?
My Motorola ATRIX connects to the 2.4 and 5 GHz network. I can confirm the photon does not.

Is everyone sure about this??? I have a wireless N setup, photon connected fine, running about 65Mbps with good signal

Be aware the question is regarding 802.11n @ 5Ghz.. You can have an 802.11n setup with just 2.4Ghz (most common)

oh, my mistake, but i'm pretty sure i have it at 5Ghz, cause i have my N network and a G network setup (for some of the laptops in the house) on the same router

802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n broadcast on the same 2.4GHz signal, 5GHz signal is only for 802.11n.
And no, these radios are only 2.4GHz.....I've tested at home as well.

Even with a dual-radio router, it's possible they're both running on 2.4 I believe. Could you go into your router configuration and check what channel you're running your N network on?

[Q] No 5GHz WiFi on i717R (Rogers)

Hi,
As I know from the specs and talks on Internet, Note LTE has abgn WiFi.
However, I only see the 2.4GHz band, Wifi Analyzer shows only channels 1-14, and there's no band selector anywhere in menus (someone mentioned it).
Any idea? Is it locked in Rogers version?
I can see both on my I717R. I'm on stock Rogers firmware and kernel and rooted. Are you on a custom ROM?
5 ghz does work.....make sure you wifi modem is is enabled for 5ghz...in fact to make sure you can disable 2.4 ghz and watch how the note still connects to wifi...I bought a dual band belkin n300 router just for ny note...
Confirmed. I have a stock i717 with Rogers. I have a Linksys/Cisco E3000. Running both Wireless N on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. I can connect to either one, and both show up in the wireless network list.

Weird... What channel my AP supposed to be at? I've heard the Note sees only 4 channels on A band...
And how do I invoke 5GHz screen in Wifi Analyzer to see the spectrum same way as in 2.4GHz?
In wifi, select options button ( left touch button) go to Advance ,
In wifi frequency band , make sure its Auto.

In Advanced, I don't see the frequency band. I see:
WiFi sleep policy
MAC address
Proxy
Port
IP Address
Then goes IP settings group.
I have i717R from Rogers like yours, build number is GINGERBREAD.248

In fact, I have returned the dual band router, so there was no experiments with 5Ghz for a while. But recently I've tested it with another router, and it works on A-band. And WiFi Analyzer DOES show A-band, I've just missed the spot to click to switch screens.
Only one question left - how come other folks with i717 on GB have a screen to control WiFi bands, and mine is missing it?

Certain features are blocked on some of carrier specific bloatware Roms.
Like At&T stock Rom doesn't allow NFC.

Wifi drop out

So I have full WiFi bars, but the two arrows next to it, I'm assuming to actually show traffic don't always work all the time and it's starting to really annoy me! YouTube sometimes works, I have to force close the app, re open to watch a video.
I've turned it on and off, rebooted, reconnected the network, any ideas?!
When I was on .69 5ghz didn't work well but 2.4ghz was fine. Now that I'm on .402 it's the opposite.
What's even weirder is both firmwares show 5ghz having better range.

I have dual band router(one at 5ghz the other at 2.4ghz), so I have to setup phone to long onto each band.

[Q] 5ghz wifi support?

Just picked up a new dual band Asus router. My mt2-l05 doesn't see the 5ghz ssid and everything I can find online seems to point to the mate 2 supporting dual band. Anyone else confirm if their mate 2 works on 5ghz?
Mine does. Using it now.

Apologies. I was too sleepy to notice that you had specified you were asking about mt2-lo5. Mine's mt2-l03.

50Mbit speed limit?

Hello,
I am running latest LineageOS. I can't seem to get more than about 50mbit on 4G (with ookla speedtest), with same SIM card, on an iPhone7 I get about 150mbit consistently at same location. I am not sure if this is related to 4G+/LTE-A not functioning. I see only LTE text on the top bar.
In another note, a friend of mine is running original OS and he says he gets 50mbit on wifi with max2, with his iPhone7 on same wifi accesspoint he gets 80-90mbit. (he couldnt test 4G because of bad signal quality in his location),
So, first of all, how can I tell if my phone is using 4G+/LTE-A or not? Do you get better 4G speeds?
How can I test where is the bottleneck exactly? Any hints?
Update:
I now made more tests. Cheap Chinese tablet with mtk6797 chip does about 100mbit in the same location.
At home I tried 5g WiFi and when phone said 433mbps, the download speed from samba server was about 48mbit (server is connected to wifi ap directly with gigabit Ethernet)
Thanks!
Noop, I am on T-Mobile, 100m+ on band 4 all the time
@cgigate which max2 model you have? which OS are you using? and which modern/baseband version?
My provider use band 3 but I don't think it is the issue. Because I get similar result with WiFi which is very strange. Also, do you see LTE+ or something different than LTE as connection icon?
@cgigate I think you must be sitting next to antenna all the time. I managed to get 80mbit when base station antenna was 50m away from me and I was very close. My provider use B3 and B7 which should be supported with any version of max2....

I own two MAX 2 (x820 and X829), both are same on stock 23s.
yes, my house near a good t-mobile towers for sure ...especially on band 4, sometime on band 2 or 12 , those bands are much slower...
@cgigate can you check my previous post? I had some questions for you there how do you see which brand you are on?

You cannot see the band actually. You know the band you are on by knowing what your network provider uses.

Use LTE discovery APP and turns on "Live" mode you will see the real-time which band you are on, see my screen capture you will know I am on LTE band 2

Do you need root ???
I use the same app on lineageos and it needs root.
But I am not sure still why my max2 is performing so bad.
Anyway, I downgraded my service connection speed to 21mbit now and have no more speed problems I think there is some sort of problem in max2 which is causing this.

No root needed for "LTE discovery" app to get band info

No, "LTE discovery" app dose not need "root" to get RF band info on lineageos
although, there is option to choose "root" from the app to get more info. but if you only want to know what band you are on , no "root" needed
@cgigate if I dont select the root option. It only shows me the signal strength. I don't quite understand how everything works for you and nothing works for me lol.
See the screenshots with it selected and not selected. I also attached one from phone info...you tell me if anything is different? I really dont understand how this can happen....
@cgigate can you send screenshot from your phone info? or what os are you using and what is your baseband modem firmware version?
