Headphone jack / socket used to be nice and tight - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I'm trying REALLY hard to avoid all the possible puns here...
I'm sure all G5 owners know the headphone jack / socket is nice and tight, and inserting headphones would give a VERY satisfying click feel and sound. Well mine no longer does. I use it mostly in my car with an AUX cable and sometimes with my headphones. Neither give the satisfying click feel or sound anymore.
Has anyone else experienced this?

You probably just have some dust or similar in the socket. Try using a needle pin to take it out.

I had the same issue with my charging port, found tobacco stuck in there

I've used a flashlight to peer inside and cannot see anything that might cause this. I'll post a photo ASAP and hopefully someone can compare that to their headphone port...
Edit: Taking a photo while attempting to pour light into the headphone port is much harder than anticipated! I think I will try a q-tip IF they are small enough... Will report back if it works out.

Sorry for late reply.
A q-tip will only leave more lint inside - just use a paperclip or a small needle or something. You have to try hard to break something inside with it, and you won't get electrocuted.
I've removed lint from my socket numerous times, and every time the jack sits snugger, and gives a click.
Go ahead, give it try. (If you haven't, already)

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the G5 any more.

I finally killed my Blueangel I did it! HELP!

Well after 1 year of use and abuse.. i manage to produce the first phisical damage to my Blueangel
Just received a Car mount with external speaker and while fiddling with it the suction cup lost grip and the whole thing fall off the table (1mt +or-)
Well the mini jack for the hands free (which at that time had connected an enormous plug to convert 4pins 2.5 mm to 3.5) got torn off from the soldered points and was completetly loose... So hands on i managed to open the darn beast with a jewler tool set and much to my relief the 10 pin's connector (only god knows what they're for) has enough space to use my soldering iron to fix it back...
The problem was that one of the contacs in the board got torn off and for much i tried to recreate i think i didnt succeed as i only have audio from the headset now and not from the phone itself...
I am posting as maybe one of you guys could provide a connection diagram for the darn think so i can try to isolate the problem.
Please dont let me down...
Cheers
N
Sounds like you've a short in the connections for the microswitch *inside* the headphone jack - this is there to detect heaphones being inserted and switch the mode over. I would think default state isn't hot so a short would seem the logical answer.
edit - possibly the headphone jack's microswitch itself is broken?
Richard
That's why i need a diagram....
Yeha that's what i think, If i knew the pin out i could try to override the short....
i did a long research and it isnt posted anywhere....
Please help!!!!
I know that when u insert the jack in the hole it "pushes a lever that overrides external sounds... i just need to know which is !!!
Found solution... see there...

[Q] Ear phone problem.

The other day while listening to music on my note the sound from the right ear phone went dead. If I played the with cord or bent the jack and held it that way I could hear music again from both ears. So naturally I thought I just needed new ear phones. However my ear phones work fine for every other device and even a different pair of ear phones in my phone gave me the same problem. If I listen to music without ear phones the speakers work fine. Is my phone damaged or is there a way to fix this?
Your headphone jack might be malfunctioning. Try a different pair of headphones on the device.

I would say malfunctioning headphone jack since you had the same issue with more than one pair. do you have a case on it? The case could be blocking it from fully entering and making a good connection

Also if you keep your phone in your pocket, it could be lint in the port. That happened to me on my streak

A good tip for cleaning electronic connections is a qtip and rubbing alcohol. So long as your device is without power. I would even remove the battery. Try cleaning out the phono plug with some rubbing alcohol first.

And a can of air can help blow out the lint and dry the alcohol.
I took it out of its case and still the same problem. I did blow in it and there isn't a problem if the jack is in the right position. If I still have sound problems I just turn the jack until I hear sounds from both ear phones again and it seems to stay that way. I don't have any pressurized air or rubbing alcohol and if I can even get them here I will have to go into the city so lets save that for last. Considering that my ear phones are working fine if the jack is in the right spot, does that mean there could just be more dust deeper in there or some sort of problem with the phone?
If there's a sweet spot where it works fine, then there's corrosion in there. Possibly the alcohol and q-tip will remove gunk, but you need some mild abrasion like a pipe cleaner.
Could be dirt or it could mean loose solder joints.
Ok so the problem got a little worse, Even if I twist the jack a certain way just moving the wires to much or the phone it will cause the sound to go out. So if I am walking or even have the phone in my sweatshirt pocket the sound will go out. The only way to get sound to play clear from both ears while walking is the kind of bend the top of the ear phone jack and hold it. If I have the phone on my desk and twist the jack to a spot that works and just leave the phone there I do not have any problems. I will see if my host family or anyone in the village has alcohol or pressurized air but if that does not fix the problem then is something like this worth getting fixed or should I just buy a new phone?
Yeah, that means the soldering has been worked loose. The part is $20 or less on ebay, and there is a disassembly video in the general section. Its not a complicated process to replace the headphone port.
I think you may be right. Today I noticed that if I press down really hard on the jack music plays fine in both ears and twisting and turning the jack doesn't affect it at all. Does that pretty much prove it then?
Yes, its getting worked loose. I've seen someone duct tape the headphone plug to the phone in the sweet spot. It lasted for about a week until the last connection broke.
Ok, I am not in the US so now ebay is out of the question. I will go into the city and see if I can find the part but as someone who never never taken a phone apart and fixed one would watching the video be good enough for me?
You can learn from the video. But if you have a store that sells the part, why not have them do the repair? I can't imagine it would cost more than $50 US.

[Q] Headphone jack working only on left side

Hello, my atrix 4g has a problem currently with the audio jack. I find that when I plug my headphone in the audio jack, only the left side is working. It needs a little tap on the jack to the right side to make both work.
It can play okay when I'm not moving, but if I'm moving, it again moves and it goes left ear only. Is there any way to fix this?
EDIT: I think this belongs to the Q/A subforum, could mods please move it? Sorry for inconveniences.
Okay, I think I fixed it, the metal connectors within the audio socket were not making proper contact. I used stapler pins (http://i.imgur.com/uX1FF4s.jpg), straightened on end completely leaving the other end slightly crooked, (like a hook) then tried to pull the connectors up a little bit.
The staple pins provided damage control as they themselves got straighten out if I pull too hard, hence preventing damage to the connectors. I used several stapler pins to get the job done, now works perfectly.
I used two stapler pins, still stuck together for more rigidity and better grip for myself.
Leaving this here incase another user has a similar problem to mine!

[HW] Serious problem, the speakers working, headphones not!

So i checked dozens times if the jack socket is ok and it is, also the motherboard pads looks ok, but i can't make any headphones to work anyway.
They don't get detected, ones or twice they worked for 1 second, and then it's only rugg noise.
no idea anymore. No any garbage inside. Everything look clean and cool.
I also flashed and rooted it with 2 different roms. Didn't help.
Pls help.

hardware issue, you must need a technician
Could the IC get wrecked? It should not cause the speaker works normal. I can hear all voices and music.

Maybe the headphone jack sensor got damaged. Does the headphone icon appear on the status bar when plugged? If not, then this is likely the issue.
Where is jack sensor?? How does it looks like?

The jack it's attached to the upper part of the board. You'll have to open the phone. And it is covered in plastic. If it's damaged then you'll probably have to replace it.
With EdwinMoqs and Artas' roms volume output can be high enough to cause clipping, which is often accompanied by false headset removal event. You have to carefully adjust the maximum safe volume level, but in the end it's still louder than stock rom which is crippled by EU and probably US regulations.
I can adjust volume via headset button, with the Headset Button Controller app. Setting max volume to 80-90% should do. The clipping protection in poweramp wasn't effective, it did the job with Artas' rom.
Problem can also be caused by a switch, which should be under one of the contacts in the jack, and can be reached with a needle(i never checked how it looks inside the jack). Also the plug should fit in to the hilt. Something might block the plug, the spindle with the contacts be too short. If you get the plug fully in and still see the spindle you're safe.
Socket looks like connecting, i can see pins moving. And i was shorting some last pins and it didn't said headphones is on.
There's a new feature in Android from 5.x or 6.x up, called Pressy Mode. It does exactly what the problem is here, and it can be controlled by Headset Button Controller app.
Probably intended for using the headset as antenna for a built-in tuner solely.
Ok, thank you all to trying to help me. I fixed this, it is working for now, i don't know for how long.
I connected for couple of seconds left channel and/or right channel by wire to the grounded Metal shield on board, and it started to detect headphones every time for now. The wire is not needed for constant working. I don't know how it worked. Also, motherboard was just a little moving over socket, so it was needed to make it hold still. I puted some little plastik on board so it pressed to the back. Works for now. I just dont know for how long. But there are still some little scrathes noises so it must be faulty IC or something in way from controller to the socket. The speaker has no scratch noises, works normal. but elements looks normal no green rust or anything.

Headphone Jack won't go all the way in

Well, all of a sudden the headphone jack won't go all the way in, which means I can't use headphones anymore. Has anyone else had the same issue or any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks
Dude, blow some pressure air on it. Maybe is something stuck in the jack. I had the same issue on a Xperia phone. Is was a small stone stuck in the jack port.

I tried to blow pressure air on it, I tried shaking it, I took a small twig and tried "fishing" for stuff and nothing works.. Now I tried with a screwdriver and ta-dah, a little piece of fabric somehow got in there and got very compact and now it's all back to normal
I recommend toothpic for this, you won't scrach anything. Had this once. I think it happens because headphones are on top so when you slide your phone into the pocket, everything you have there can land in the port.
