i don't care about SIM unlock because this won't be used as a phone just a media player but i need full root/bootloader access, can i get it with this? i have XT1528 which can't be unlocked so i want to switch
Yes. I have 2, sprint branded and us cellular branded. Both are BL unlocked. USC version is also sim unlocked.

definitely yes - xt1526
Yes, it can be. I have the boost mobile version of the 1526. Bootloader unlocked without a hitch. If you run into issues, just USB stick a version of Linux like Mint. My Win 7 had driver issues (oddly my HTCs always worked in win, but I had to resort to my Linux flash drive for the Moto E)

Hey,
I need some help, I want to unlock my AT&T HTC One. I already have the unlock code with me.
But Right now I am on a custom ROM, GPE 4.3. I was inquisitive of two things:
1. If I can unlock my phone from the network while being on Custom ROM?
2. Can I unlock it using an international SIM, which is not working since the roaming is disabled.
To add to the first point, if I can how do I do it? And If I cannot think, I know the method to come to stock. But then again, after I come back to stock, how do I unlock the boot loader again and root the device?
Any help will be highly appreciated. Please let me know as soon as possible, I need to travel soon
I had problems SIM unlocking my AT&T HTC One with GPE conversion as well. It wouldn't unlock at all.
I simply just flashed ViperOne rom and tried the unlock it and it worked. I think you can only unlock with a sense rom but I am no developer so I wouldn't know for sure.
All you have to do is put the other SIM card with the sense rom and the option to unlock with an unlock code should come up and work.

This is a known issue that you can only unlock using a sense rom

I know it may be out of context but I have a sim unlocked AT&T HTC One, so if I'm going to unlock bootloader, root and flash a custom ROM then are there chances that my phone will be SIM Locked again ?

Someone offered me an E970 bought from AT&T and he says it is unlocked.
Does it mean someone unlocked it ? it is permanently unlocked then ? or do I need to obtain some PIN to unlock it
again when a software update is done ?

If its unlocked it can work with any GSM network provider no need to obtain PIN to unlock it. It will stay unlocked even after updating.
And you want to clarify whether he is referring to carrier unlocked or bootloader unlocked. Big difference.

When in service menu it says
Root Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
does this mean i cant ever unlock my Bootloader?
mean is it possible to still attempt with the unlock process and see if it will indeed hopefully unlock or am i out of luck?
i want to be able to install CWM Recovery so i can install a custom Rom...mostly a Stock ASOP Stock Android or GPE
at the moment i am on
Build Number: 14.2.A.0.290
Model Number: C6833
and i am not currently Rooted as it doesn't seem quite possible to Root Android 4.3 successfully
My device when i first received it was a branded o2 Carrier handset but days after receiving it the Network unlocked the handset for me as in Unlocked the handset to a Unbranded version so it will work on any Network...i dunno if this means anything to me getting the bootloader Unlocked
Sorry to say, but at the moment there is no way to unlock your BL
The best you can do is:
Downgrade to .532 (read my guide in the general section or you will lose cell reception/imei)
Root (follow LordManhatton's guide in general section)
Upgrade to a stock based rom (follow Jackie's rom thread or my instructions at #34 in that thread if not using his rom) - choices include:
DoggRom
[NUT]'s rom
Jackie099's Stock rom
monx®'s rom
StarFighter's rom
i searched for these but non of them seem to be stock android i like my stock lol cyanmod/gpe style

You will either have to live with it, or you'll have to sell it and buy a regular unlockable one. Not what you want to hear, but these things happen when carriers have a certain body part up their asses.

Dunno, but it's worth a try. I'm on O2 and mine has an unlocked bootloader. I would contact them and complain that it's locked and you want an unlocked version. I've done that in the past and since then I've always had unlocked versions.

Mine too. I just complained saying it wasn't stated anywhere that it was a locked bootloader and so they'd missold me the product. Works every time.

I recently converted by AT&T version to a Google Edition via S-OFF, CID change and Google 4.4 RUU.
AT&T has tried to issue me unlock codes twice, but neither works. I'm using an old t-mobile SIM to attempt the unlock.
Does anyone know if maybe updating the CID impacts the ability to use a carrier unlock code?

Install a stock at&t ROM and try again. In multiple threads it has been said that the at&t unlock code only works on stock roms

I just unlocked on a att stock rom, 4.3 to be exact. Then restored.
I am trying to perform a carrier unlock on my AT&T HTC One so I can use it overseas while I am travelling. I have contacted AT&T and am waiting for an unlock code. In the mean time, I understand I need to be on a stock ROM for the unlock code to work. I have the ROM downloading, but am curious if I need to return the phone completely to stock. My phone is rooted and S-Off - do I need to reverse both of these conditions? I'm also wondering if I need to be on a stock recovery or not.
Thanks!
Josh
It appears that AT&T will not provide an unlock code unless you are out of contract, so it's pointless after all.

I was able to obtain an unlock code from option 5 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242473
Loaded a stock ROM, but kept the bootloader unlocked and my custom recovery. Unlock code worked just fine.
