Well, I have an 8bitdo Snes30 game controller and used it really easily on my previous Motorola G2, now that I have a Honor 5x I tried to use it but I havent been able to get it working.
I believe this thread must work for all type of controllers...
When I used it on my Moto G2, as soon as I paired the devices, the keyboard on the cellphone went useless and I could only use my gamepad, when paired on the Honor 5x nothing happens, they pair but its as though the device doesnt recognize it as a game pad, just nothing happens. I watch many videos of controllers such as PS3 or PS4 and Noga controller connected on Android cellphones and as soon as they pair, they work together great, but not with this cellphone.
Anyone knows what should I do, perhaps download an app or something?
Are you in stock ROM?
Sent from my honor 5X using XDA Labs
yes im stock rom, not flashed
Some devices doesn't recognize the Gaming joysticks . it might be honor one of them ! .

Has anyone tried this? It would be cool if you could turn off the on-screen controls.

Edit:
I wonder if you can plug in a USB keyboard. Haven't seen anyone try that yet. I need to get an adapter an try it out.
I do know that you can buy a Bluetooth keyboard to use with the tablet that you might be able to map buttons to and use.
Also I do believe there is an App floating around that will allow you to Bluetooth the PS3 controller (or the Wii Remote) to your device to use with games.

I think honeycomb supports most usb controllers including ps3 and 360, I cant try it until I get an adapter though. Like is said above there are apps that let u use dualshock 3 via bluetooth, but I think they require root access.
Yes, you can use USB keyboard and mice. The Dual Shock 3 controller doesn't work (ironic, yes?). There is an app to use the DS3 and it requires root.

The ps3 controller is closed in as when you connect it with a pc... btw you can remove the on screen controls in the options...
Also... Lisa, I truly enjoy your very indepth reviews and previews of products...it is always your reviews that manage to go deeper than any review site I visit (eg. The usb port on the S) Glad to see u really are in depth if your on this site! I bought my hp TM2 because of you! Same with this really great tablet! Thanks!

Thanks Lisa. I really enjoy your reviews!

Unfortunately the PS3 controller doesn't work. Sony's proprietary bluetooth is at it again. As you all know, Sony never likes to play well with other companies...and in this case, not even with their own devices. I ordered the logitech controller and an OTG USB cable which I'll try out today. I figure it'll work nicely and bluetooth would be even better. We'll see...
I have tried with a proper sony pad and can confirm it wont work via bluetooth or usb. it`ll connect to a rooted device but as the tablet isnt rooted yet it wont work.
I`ve talked to staff in a couple of Sony centres and they have said they have been told by sony reps that it will work with the controller soon.

Any update on whether the logitech controller works or not?
It works with the USB Adapter. Played my PS Certified Games just fine! It works on other games as well, but its hit or miss.

Yes, I use it with my emulators and it works fine. The controller itself leaves a little to be desired but with the OTG cable I bought and the logitech controller's usb dongle, i can now game a bit better on my tablet. I also bought the dock so that I could have the screen vertical.
You can use a mouse and a keyboard with usb.
I have plugged in the official wired Xbox360 pad and it works! The only problem is that the buttons are all mapped differently for the playstation certified games and there is no way of re-mapping them. For stuff like emulators where you can re-map the buttons it works amazingly well.
Has anyone tried using the PS3 DS controller ever since the PS Store came out? Just curious if it included some kind of software patch to allow the PS3 controller to work since Sony has stated that soon we will be able to use the PS3 controller. I just don't want to waste the money on the logitech controller just for the tablet when I have like 4 PS controllers lying around.

I Just tried and it doesn't work, all it does is flash the 4 red leds on the pad and that's it.
I think we need the Tablet rooted to get one working via usb
Damn! I'm probably going to try this when I get home from work and I have time to try pairing this to my tablet and then getting a refund if it doesn't work, unless someone wants to try it first. It says it doesn't require root, but the reviews are a bit iffy:

I'm leaving work early today (3:30 Eastern Standard) - I'll try to fit it in before my evening class.
Ok so after purchasing, no dice. The pairing was successful, but the server app still needs root to even start. I had no problems purchasing it because a have a bunch of android phones I should be able to use itwith. But as of now, the app doesnt work for the Tablet S. Would love to see rootcoming down the pike for this thing though...
Thanks for the update. I figured with the so/so reviews there was probably going to be an issue with the tablet s.
I tried many times pairing the Dualshock 4 with the Nexus 9 via bluetooth, but it gets stuck in pairing and does not connect. No errors or anything, just hangs there, and then the controller eventually times out of new connection pairing mode.
Connecting the Dualshock 4 via OTG cable works flawlessly, but what I really hoped for was a wireless connection.
On the other hand, the Dualshock 4 connects to my Nexus 4 via bluetooth just fine, out of the box with no additional software, which is why I expected it to work the thr Nexus 9 too. Although it's not very usable.. It's perfect for a little bit, very responsive, but then it's starts to lag to a point where it's unusable... Off topic, but anyone has experience with this lag issue too?
Anyways, main question is has anyone tried to pair their Dualshock 4 with the Nexus 9 out of the box via bluetooth and got it to work? If yes, is it usable? If no.. why not?
Solved:
Sixaxis works like a champ. I used a computer to pair up the controller with the Nexus 9 for Bluetooth use by installing their pairing program, and everything works well, including the touch pad. Glad I took the Dualshock 4 over the Xbox One controller!
I recommend reading this: http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/instructions.html
If followed their instructions, it should be all good. Good luck all, and happy gaming!
i have dualshock 3 controllers and have to use the sixaxis app to use bleutooth.

How does that tool work? I've read about it but haven't tried yet.. To my (limited) understanding, you'd use a computer to help pair the controller with the device for the first time, and then later on it would just pair properly every time, without the need for the computer?

excactly. its just like you need to pair up the ps3 controller with the ps3 for the first time.
after that just start the app and press the home button on the controller.
I have used 2 controllers at the same time works flawlesly.
Tomorow a friend will bring 2 extra controllers.
so i will try to connect 4 at the same time.
It will be epic playing smash bross
Same here, even after the 5.0.1 update, it still refuses to connect to my dualshock 4
When connecting the Dualshock 4 controller through bluetooth it does not work and while disconnecting the whole setting is struck, cannot even turn off the Bluetooth without rebooting. It does not even work on the ps4 remote play. Does anyone have the same problem with tab s6 or any solution?
Have you put it in pairing mode (Hold SHARE & PS button until the lightbar rapidly blinks then use the Console's original USB to connect the first time)?
Same issue here
It paired correctly but it doesn't work in any way and when I try to disconnect it the bluetooth menu freeze until reboot. Tried on my s10 too and it works well there.
I've also tried connecting it via USB cable and it seems to work in that way. Probably a software issue. We have to let Samsung know about this.
It's amazing how many people will learn of the news of Remote Play being available on all android devices but don't take the time to read the rest of the news.
Even if you get the controller paired with the tablet, it's not going to work with the remote play app. It's been stated multiple times that proper DS4 support won't come until Android 10. Some people have gotten it to work with the older models of the DS4 controllers (the one with the terrible battery life and no light bar in the front) but only wired and even then, it doesn't work for every phone and tablet out there.
Does not work for me too. Even with USB. Same controller works great on my Nexus 6P with Andorid 9 though.
I contacted Samsung Support twice about that but they just talked around the problem and didn't bother to reproduce it. So I think there won't be a fix soon. Maybe with Android 10. One UI sucks, btw. Would so love the Tab S6 with Vanilla Android.

The DS4 works 100% via USB on the S8 (US). I've used the S10, N10+, and T S6 (US models). DS4 input is ignored by all. Thankfully, I own the BT enabled XO controller so it's all good.

After the October update I just got it seams to work good. Wireless and wired! Unfortunately as stated above the PS4 Remote Play app works with the DS4 starting with Android 10. So my pixel 3 works. Not so my Tab S6. And the alternative Pstreamer does not yet work with the PS4 7.0 firmware.
After today update (1st September patch) the controller had start to work flawlessly as it does with my s10. Try to manually search for the update or wait until it'll come

So globally, only (for now) the xbox one controller works, over BT with the Sams. Galaxy Tab S6.
This I understand from online information.
Perhaps some one can post his/her experience with this.
Or does indeed have Sams. a secret partnership with MS, this looked at the price of an xbox one controller.
I assume not, though.

I have updated my firmware after the latest update the controller works fine I think it was a bug. But for playing playstation remote play ds4 is not supported unless android 10. I hope it comes faster that the rumored date :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:.
I've recently tried to breathe a little bit of new life into my shield tablet, by in stalling lineage OS (14.x) onto it and, so far, it seems to all be working very nicely. However, I have a shield controller and the ROM I installed didn't include the shield accessories app - although it did include the Nvidia Games app!
Is there any other way of connecting my controller, or is there any safe way I can get the app from somewhere else?
Just use an xbox or playstation controller over bluetooth. Used they are cheap if u don't have one and they work great with xbox game streaming etc...

Hello
I am in the same case as you (except that I am lineageos 15.1).
For the moment I have not found for a wireless connection but I believe by cons that it works via USB cable OTG.

Thanks - I'll give that a try as a solution for now, but I'd be surprised if it's not possible to do it wirelessly...
Hello everyone. I've fallen into a deep rabbit hole of troubleshooting with my Redmi Note 9 Pro EU with Android 11 and MIUI 12.5.8 on board.
I want to play Fortnite Mobile as a great break between everyday activities, so I found a cheap second-hand Nintendo Switch controller and tried to play with it. It's connecting by bluetooth but doesn't work in the game... I tried with USB OTG and it worked ONCE after some messing with the Octopus app in Fortnite and Brawhalla. I was so happy, but it never worked again.
So, I found another controller - this time designed for Android - Stratus XL - but this pad is even bigger mess. It connects by bluetooth as well as OTG but nothing works in games.
SOOOOOOOO I bought an original PS4 controller because I read many optimistic articles and people's comments, that Dualshock is supported by Android. And I'm used to this pad - it's my teenage memory
Indeed, it works beautifully with Android (the touch bar works as a mouse), but it again DOESN'T work with the games..........
Now I'm pissed off. I don't want to buy another controller... and Nintendo Switch pad worked once...
I'm thinking about what I can change in the system, to bind the buttons properly for the games I play...
On the XDA DEV forum, I found 1controller module, but it was written in the times of Android 9 or 10, and I'm not sure if I want to root my phone just to check it out.
Anyway, I'm sure that I'll need to access root at some point, but first I need a piece of good advice from someone who knows something about Android.
I was thinking also about updating Android to v12... but I'm also not sure about it. Maybe there is something easier I can do... because if Nintendo Switch pad WAS WORKING ONCE.... (this is so confusing xD )
PLZ help me configure a gamepad on Android
