Hi all. I was removing stock apps from my /system/app folder, and deleted Launcher2.apk by mistake. The phone couldn't boot properly, so I managed to get the apk from the emulator and install it using adb booting the phone on recovery mode.
Now, my problem is, that Launcher only shows shorcuts to the apps from my /system/app folder. Every apk I put or install on /data/app doesn't apear on the apps view. So there is no way to launch any app unles I manualy move it to system.
I think launcher must read a config file to get the installed apps, and it's failing for some reason. What do you think?
thanks in advance

Well just in case someone is interested in this. I'm creating symlinks from my /data/app and sdcard mounts to /system/app to workaround my problem.
1.- Move all these apks to the /system/priv-app folder of the android wear watch, and chmod 644 all apks with adb/terminal or change permissions to rw,r,r and change the owner to System and the group to System with file manager.

Yes I got all intalled ok. I did everything as you said.
I can't figure out what's wrong.
Does UCBrowser open and work?
"Google play services has stopped to work" after this process. I can´t get uc browser or play store working (installing as user apps as shown at step 3) If I move it to priv-app, UC browser works, but playstore´s still crashing. I don´t understand the dummy apks and its purpose...
If I install the dummy and before the user app UC browser, it doesn´t work. It needs to be pushed on priv-app to get networking

Yes I guess it needs to be done first! If you use /system/app mover to move playStore to system then after it reboots install the newer PlayStore apk as an user with ES file explorer then delete the play store apk on the system/priv-app folder and add the older dummy apk again and it should work! I think it needs to be installed to system for real first then update it then move the older dummy apk to /system folder after you've updated it, the point of the dummy apk is to save space! if you want you could just leave the real apk in the System/folder

I don´t understand the steps. If I install something outside from priv-app, it won´t work on network, that´s a fact. I think google play services must be in priv-app also with play store and other google apps, but I don´t have space enought on /system partition (the play store crashes saying google play services has stopped, and I cannot install play services as user app because it says that already exists). Why it already exists? Must I delete the default Android wear Play services and replace with this new package? And what´s the installation order?
1- Install the dummy as user app and move it to /system with permissions, etc.
2- Reboot and install the real google play apk as user app
3- Reinstall the dummy on /system again (mantaining the real Gplay as user app and getting free space on /system)
Is this?
I only got UC browser working while being on priv-app, but nothing with play store... Really I´m trying to get it working
Yes any apps in the system folders get networking! And if you update that app it moves it to /data and still works as long as an dummy apk is in system folder. And yes I might have use the adb -r command to install play services or threw ES file explorer as an update? I'm not to sure

Then, how I update an app for save space on /system? And how I install new play services without corrupting anything?
And what´s adb -r command for?
Sorry for all of that questions, but I´m interested in learning And thanks for all!
Have you tried to install play services apk with ES file explorer or threw adb? Android wear has play services installed already so it's just an update! It's called prebuiltGmsCoreForClockworkWearable.apk on my watch and is in the priv-app folder!
you have to install the app or apps to the /system/priv-app or /system/app folder first - you can use the app /system/app mover or adb or terminal or file manager. then you need to use ES File explorer and install an newer version of the same app and it will be updated and re-installed to the /Data partition where there is more space, it does not remove the apk from the /system folders but it's not used only checked for and wastes space so that's why the dummy apk is used. If you don't want to install other apps to system then just install PlayStore or UCBrowser and leave it in system but there isn't much space 30+mb.
adb install -r package.name.apk reinstalls the app without replacing the data like an update.
Ahh I found what was going on I forgot an apk GoogleAccountManager.apk it don't need to be in the system folder but if you reset the watch it will get deleted too unless it's in the system folder!
Can you upload it please? I'll try it

Hi, may I ask, what is the purpose of doing this? Is it for times when Android Wear becomes unstable?
I have put the apps to /system/priv-app. I chmod-ed them to 644. But i am not able to change user/group.
when in sdcard/Downloads the files are shown as root:sdcard_r. chown system:system filename result in no error, but ls -al still delivers root:sdcard_r
after putting the files in system/priv-app i am shown to have no rights to change user/group (no rights to write on system?). I dont know how to get these rights. Standard linux code doesnt work, necessary commands not integrated in wear?
In the file manager of twrp i dont find any option to change user/group. ES File Explorer is installed, but activation of root explorer returns an error. And yes, the device IS rooted
Edit:
When in /system/priv-app by adb shell su the files are shown root/root as user/group.
So the whole procedure results in:
I can start ES File Explorer (only through native GUI, not wear mini launcher, dont know why) - but i am not able to install an apk by it. Every try results in no app/no gesture. Now i am stuck...
Edit:
Ok, i made it by TWRP/Terminal. baaaaad work with that smaaaall keyboard and big fingers...
but it doesnt look as if that was the big point. File Explorer still cant get root explorer and i still cant install apps...

Do you have root for this? If so how have you granted access if superuser doesnt work yet? Also how do you change the groups? And do the apks need to be in a folder in system/priv-app like they are in our phones? I moved all the apks but none of them installed I have TWRP but im still trying ti work out my root on Sony Smartwatch 3
After root I deleted DefaultContainerService.apk by mistake but one good thing is I had copied terminal, linuxforandroid and ROOT Explorer to the system/app folder.
Bad thing is these 3 apps are not installed by default even though it is in system/app folder. (Other pre existing apps are installed) when the reset happens.
I am not able to install any apps now without DefaultContainerService :crying:
Even after format I am having root format.
When you move apps to /system, they must have permissions set to 0644 then reboot to have it take affect. If you can find a stock based rom, you should be able to extract that apk and move it to system, set permissions, reboot and good to go.
Partial
The solution is great. i used adb and changed the permission and reset the phone.
I can see the app installed but when i open it it tells failed.
I found temp solution of pushing DefaultcontentProvider through adb but still I want it to be in default app list. Do not want to push after every reset.
Hi, I have a Digiland DL1010Q tablet with kitkat 4.4.2
Apologies in advance if this post is a little long, but I wanted to be thorough in my explanations in order to better my chances of getting the problem solved.
Kitkat 4.4.2 apparently doesn't allow 3rd party programs to write on an external SD card and since I wanted that functionality back (and I have root access), I decided to do the "Sdfix" modification. It has an app for it in the play store but I decided to do it the manual way as described in many threads online.
The modification is basically to edit the /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml file and add in the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE category the line "<group gid="media_rw" />". This is supposed to give back write permission on sd card to 3rd party apps.
Now the issue is that the particular instructions I was looking at didnt mention reeditting this file's permission after making the edit so the permissions might have not been at 644 (rw- r-- r--) after I made this edit...
Once I rebooted the tablet it booted up fine but once on the desktop, I started getting a bunch of messages that apps were crashing in the background. The tablet came from factory with 2 partitions, one for the OS and the main part of the user apps, and a secondary partition called "INTERNAL STORAGE" with the extra install files for the largest user apps and some settings, etc... The issue seems to be that this secondary partition now cannot be accessed unless i use es file explorer with root access and navigate to the mnt/media_rw/sdcard0 folder (the internal storage has always been referred as sdcard0 before, so the name isnt new). So basically without root, the apps cant access that data partition and load their settings, etc and load properly. At least thats what I think is happening but I could be wrong.
The weird part is that even with root, I can only access the content of the internal storage through es file explorer if I go through the mnt/media_rw/ folder, if I go through other folders, I can't seem to access the content. Without root explorer access, es file explorer can't even access the content of the mnt/media _rw folder. If I go through the "sd card analyst" tool in es file explorer, it would normally display the content of the internal storage, but it now fails and say that it doesnt have the right permission (even if es file explorer has root explorer access).
I have since edited the platform.xml file permissions to make sure they were at 644, reboot, no luck.
I then reverted the changes to platform.xml and made it identical to what it was at the beginning, permissions 644, reboot, no luck and es file explorer navigation was identical.
Through my many googling attempts I found a few other people who had this issue and one user's recommended fix involved deleting the file /data/system/packages.xml (which he said gets modified when platform.xml changes), clearing the cache and delvik cache, then rebooting. I actually tried this and the delvik cache got repopulated normally during bootup but the issue persisted. (the packages.xml file reappeared but I am not sure how identical it is to the one I deleted)
Does anyone have any suggestion on how I could fix my issue without doing a facory reset? I would greatly appreciate any help in solving this short of a full wipe.
Have you tried wiping the userdata?
What is the userdata? You mean all my apps, settings, etc? Like a factory reset? If so, no, I'm trying to avoid having to resort to that.
Or you mean some sort of cache? I manually deleted the content of the delvik cache folder, and I have used the "clear cache" option in the recovery menu I can access at bootup if i hold power and volume up.
Or do you mean something else entirely?
bump
I have an LG G4 running a rooted image of Android 5.1 (VS98613B). I would like to make it so that my phone doesn't track my Mobile Data Usage. (i.e. I would like Settings - Data Usage to be empty and/or automatically cleared on reboot)
I understand these files are kept in /data/system/netstats. Using ES File Explorer with root privileges, I have accessed this directory and deleted the files found there. I also changed the permissions of ...../netstats to read-only.
After device reboot, I verified ...../netstats was still read-only and empty ( both were still true). In Settings - Data Usage, the graph at the top is blank. However, the app list below the graph starts out blank for half a second, then refreshes to show the most recent apps that have been using Mobile Data. (I would upload a screenshot, but I'm not sure how.)
Using ES File Explorer, I verified again that ...../netstats was still empty. (and it is.) I am unable to find either netstats_xt.bin or netstats_uid.bin in /data/system .
How is the Android System UI populating this apps list?
If the directory ....../netstats is currupt, does the System UI default to a different path? Where would it be?
Many, Many Thanks to any that can help.
