Bootloader - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Can I Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP (ZCX~TWRP) On Stable ROM Kenzo 32GB v8.0.6. I've Obtained Permission and downloaded the required files ( ZCX TWRP ,Mi flash and Xiaomi drivers ) Please answer the questions below
1.Can I Unlock Bootloader on Stable ROM ?
2.Unlocking bootloader means I will loose all data right?
3.can I directly flash ZCX TWRP after unlocking bootloader ?

I couldnt unlock it on stable, but no harm if you try
Unlocking doesnt mean you will lose data, you lose nothing
You can flash after unlockibg bootloader.
And you can unlock it as many times you need (it gets locked if you flash MIUI again or if you switch MIUI android version..

if only move to developer ROM, you don't need to unlock first. you can directly move to dev rom using miflash.
all you need available here.
miflash --> MIUI ROM Flashing Tool (Size: 31MB)
fastboot ROM --> Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm Latest Global Developer Version Fastboot File Download

It's in the same link that @abihary has mentioned http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
I have attached a screenshot here...

I managed to unlock BL yesterday on 12 years old 32bit laptop with XP
I could only enter fastboot mode, so I installed old MiFlash;
http://bigota.d.miui.com/tools/MiPhone20151028.exe
Then I selected Drivers in that file to get ADB interface bootloader working, then I used MiUnlock and it went success
i didnt have my computer with 64bit win10 at hand where I have everything working tip top, so I tried that and it worked...maybe it can help someone too

New Redminote 3 Pro can't flash ROMs

Hi guys,
Just recently purchased redmi note 3 pro 32gb from gearbest.
Phone should be international version with 7.2.13.00(LHOCNCL) preinstalled.
I found that I cannot flash any standard / developer ROM when official website by using built-in flash tool.
Any way to go from here? to at least receive OTA updates and in future I will like to try out Ressurection rom.
thanks.
Your ROM is unexsisting one, cooked by the seller.
You must flash a new one clean via EDL mode and MiFlash
This CN in the name means Chinese, and the numbers says that the rom is only modified to support more languages.

Does this mean i need to wait for unlock bootloader first?
my MI account has previous device linked which I just removed now and set to my new phone.
might take weeks to get approval?
or is there a guy to by pass the locked bootloader?
thanks.

No you wont loose your IMEI. Basically you are just flashing official MIUI Rom, your IMEI details are stored in another partition (non volatile) and FlashAll will not touch them.
You are safe to follow this guide, and by the way you would not be able to unlock the bootloader (the official way) from this vendor Rom. So if you plan to do so later, here you go with this first step.

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? You need to check in fastboot mode, by typing in fastboot oem device-info
you may have to boot straight to recovery, or the recovery image may get overwritten
my bootloader is locked.i think above method is for locked bootloader.right.i pressed power+volume up right after flashing(after disconnecting cable),phone showed mi logo and then after 5-6 seconds its showing to connect cable again. also when i use miflash tool to unlock bootloader.its not showing advanced menu in miflash tool.any solutionfor that too.my desktop is windows 7 32 bit os.do i need a 64 bit os to get all options in miflash tool.pls any solution.

I can't write you a detailed step-by-step guide because my English is not so perfect, but: you need to install the Global/Chinese Developer rom. Must be Developer rom, but you can choose which of them (Chinese or Global).
I made it with Global Developer, so I can confirm that this method perfectly works.
Luck!

Upgrade CM 13 to CM 14.1 failed - no recovery mode anymore

Hi guys,
first of all: I am an idiot
I was using an old nightly from CM 13-kenzo and decided to do some preparation to finally migrate to Lineage without data loss.
So I wanted to go to CM14.1 before flashing the experimental Lineage and the nightly.
What did I flash with TWRP?
1.) ROM: cm-14.1-20161225-NIGHTLY-kenzo.zip
2.) GAPPS 7.1 ARM64 micro
3.) Firmware: CM14.1-firmware_20161205.zip
I think I should have flashed the firmware first, moreover, I didn't wipe caches.
What's happening now?
Recovery mode does not work (the display just flash for half a second)
Booting does not work (ofc )
Fastboot mode still works.
How can I fix this nice problem with Cyanogenmod?
Any help is much appreciated.
Bro,I also faced this problem. Just go to guides section and follow the guide"install zcx twrp without unlocking bootlader" one. And flash by that method twrp and you will get it all back.
I have also faced problem same you are facing and solved it!!!

Yes, I mean Miflash tool. You need to folow this guide
http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
And remember you will lost all data in internal memory, you will get back to MIUI with that guide. Then try to unlock your bootloader officially or unofficially again.
Or if you woud like to take risk then you can try this way https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/unlock-unofficially-install-zcx-twrp-t3586778 without data lost

[AIO] Guide to Unlock bootloader , Flash TWRP and a Custom rom.

Unlocking Bootloader1. Make sure you have a sim and active mobile data. Then go to about phone tap build number 7-8 times. After that go to advanced settings > developer options > turn on OEM unlocking and then check if this device is secure and click add account and device.
2. Download Mi unlock tool from here. Extract it and paste it in C:/unlock. or else your device won't be recognized for unlocking.
3. Open Mi unlock tool and then enter the Mi account which was on your device. Put your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol- and power and then connect to PC. Press unlock and if it tells you to wait you have no other option but to wait. If your mi flash tool shows connect your device even after you have connected it. Follow this guide here.
4. After you have unlocked your bootloader reboot your phone.
Flashing TWRP and Rooting via magisk
1. Download this TWRP image here. Thanks to the original developer mauronofrio.
2. Download adb and fastboot tools here and install it.
3. Now put your phone in fastboot mode and connect it with your pc. Now where you have downloaded the TWRP file rename it to TWRP.img and open a CMD window there if you don't know how just google.
4. Type the following commands
1. fastboot devices
2. fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
3. fastboot reboot recovery.
Click to collapse
5. Your phone will boot into TWRP now. But TWRP will be overwritten by stock miui recovery to stop that you need to flash Magisk. Download this zip move it to internal storage then flash by tapping on install and swipe to flash. Reboot your device. Reboot to recovery again to check if TWRP is present.
Now your device is rooted
OR
Flash latest OrangeFox Recovery if you don't want magisk.
Flashing A rom
1. Download.
2. Flash.
3 Format Data.
Done
Feel free to ask any questions. And don't point a finger at me for messing your device.

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 PM ----------
I've unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool and waited for 7 days,
But i rooted the device using a different method where i patched a boot.img and flashed that to the device.
Will this method still work for me as I'm already rooted but just want TWRP so i can flash other ROMs.. The post says you have to flash magisk from the (temporary) TWRP for the TWRP to stay as the recovery..
Will the magisk on my phone and the magisk installed here collide?
I just want TWRP so i can switch to a custom rom, so any input is appreciated!!

You can flash twrp and then check if it persists. If not flash magisk again their is no thing as magisk colliding lol. Just make sure you flash a newer version. And if nothing works flash stock rom and then twrp.
If you have the stock boot IMG flash it and then intsall twrp and magisk.

Nevermind.. i got it to work pretty easily..
I have twrp on this device and Pixel Experience ROM and it's working all fine..
But there's this one thing where when booting to recovery, it asks me to input a password for User(0) when i try to input anything it says password failed..
From reading the log, it says it's for decrypting data(8f I'm not mistaken)
Is this important? Do i need to decrypt it?
Currently the ROM works fine with no errors, so I'm not gonna bother, but would still like to know what this "decrypting" thing is..

Hey buddy, thank you for this quick step-by-step guide. I flash ROMs since 2012 and you know what? It helped me the same. Having all stuff needed for go from stock to custom concentrated in one place (plus some useful tip like the Magisk flash at the end) it's always useful and time-saving. Thank you

- write 'fastboot (with lowered 'f'): it may confuse some newbie
- it's 'reboot' instead of 'boot'

MIUI Global 12.5.4.0 (RJBEUSF)

Hi, I'm trying to update my MIUI version to MIUI 13 however nothing is working, I am aware I've got a locked bootloader which is why I'm only trying to update via the Updated in Settings an odd thing is that my MIUI version is different from any version I've seen downloadable.
My version is RJBEUSF
EEA version is RJBEUXM
What to do?
Thanks

if you can't update via settings
reset device and try again if fail
then bootloader should be unlocked to try the 2nd official way
unlock bootloader with "mi unlock" on any pc or laptop
then download your desired ROM and flash it with "mi flash"
you can also relock bootloader again while flashing with mi flash

If I want to relock bootloader do I need my specific device's MIUI ROM? I'm trying to download it via the Settings but I think it's a "carrier" based MIUI rom and it's really limiting.
Only reason that I would want this is for resell value. Easier to sell a stock device than an open bootloader one.
Thanks btw for answering.

you can only flash with pc or laptop following way
requirements
1.pc/laptop with adb drivers
2.unlocked bootloader device
yes you need fastboot rom flashing with "mi flash" to relock the bootloader
Official Roms for Mi10 (UMI) you can download from here and select fastboot while downloading not recovery rom
extract downloaded rom in c drive
download latest mi flash and extract this in c drive also
run mi flash select rom, attach your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol down + power down
and hit flash button, attaching screen shot also
hope this will help
i have same device, and this mi flash version worked good for me (MiFlash 2021.2.26.0)
i was getting problems with latest version
