Rooting and Custom Recovery problems... - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so.. I am having some problems. Never had many issues with rooting etc before but my S6 Edge is being surprisingly difficult.
it an SM-G925I on 6.0.1 EPIK build
I've tried the Skipsoft tool thing multiple times. But for the love of god I cannot get a recovery installed nor root.
I've had the booting back to stock recovery problem along the way and followed the steps to boot into the custom but every time I go through the options and follow the steps by the time I try, the phone brings up recovery is not seandroid enforcing in RED in the top left of the screen.
I can just hold volume down and power to reboot back to android but so far I have not been having any luck getting root and recover =\
Any help greatly appreciated.
usb debugging enabled, obviously, Knox disabled (had to turn off reset protection to get Odin to flash)

Flash twrp through odin for custom recovery.
Cf autoroot for root flash through odin also.
Or
Flash supersu 2.78 sr1 systemless through twrp

Ok so flashed the autoroot Hopefully right. Used the AP section, booted into download mode and flashed, it was succesful then restarted with the seandroid error But a second or so passed and it booted into cf autoroot which successfully rooted my device.
I guess that's a good thing.
Now all I need to do Is manage to install a custom recovery and find the best rom xD
Thanks for the help so far,
Eagerly waiting for more ^_^

Cool,,
Now download root checker from app store and install it. Press verify root to check.
Easiest way to flash twrp now is to download flashify from playstore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
From there you can easily flash twrp.
Hope that works mate

Ok so great news! Flashify worked and I think is amazing.. haha...
ONLY PROBLEM NOW.. is any roms I install don't seem to work. I can wipe, flash and then boot and the phone either gets stuck on the samsung full logo Or the animated glowing samsung boot image. Atleast I think. CarHD rom seemed stuck on the boot image for more than 5 minutes.
Any ideas?

It's normal when you flash a rom for it to take around 10 minutes to boot first time. I'm currently using car HD rom. The first time you flash it, it will stick on Samsung glowing logo for around 10 minutes maybe more. But give it time it will boot. There's a good choice of roms available but check they are compatible first line. Also in aroma installer for CarHD rom select full wipe

Did you flash the aroma theme? If you just flash the ROM without the themes then it is just like stock ROM but with mods like viper, ad away and some good customisation options in ROM control and OTA
There's tyrannus rom, alexis rom, xtrestolite
Have a look on here there's quite a few

Nah. You don't need pc. I use that rom as well.
Goto play store and search for rashr install give root rights. It will say it needs an update, update it. You will see a list of recoveries I go with philz. Download it, follow on screen instructions and you will reboot into recovery than you can leave that buggy rom.

Dude you rock!
This worked perfect. I have been trying to get a good Recovery flashed to go back to the Sony 270 ROM (Xperium) which so far is my favorite and were not able to flash it with my usual steps of Hotbooting Doom Kernel22. Used your steps and boom...got a nice recovery again instead of that super lame CM recovery. Seriously why do we get that junk now?

recovery is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit:recovery
It just keeps rebooting i took out the battery and it still does this! I cant get into download mode or anything please help.
I used the odin root file (like a re-root) to fix this when it happened to me
Yep me too
More details like android version...the recovery filename would help. As others have stated, try flashing the cf-autoroot file for the SM-N900P
My guess is that your recovery isnt there. This happened to me once and I fixed it by reflashing TWRP thru Odin

No such thing as a odin root file, jpeery88 is correct just didn't say it quite right. First odin is software used to install (flash) rom and recovery (files) into your device (phone). ROMS are stock or custom and rooted. You need to get into download mode to install a custom recovery first before you can flash a custom rom. Click on ROM flashing basics in my signature for more info on how to get into download and recovery modes, root your device and more . . .

This was normally a job for a USB jig. I've not found anything for a note 3 though. You might take the battery out over night and try again.
Maybe with the sd card out as well.
Finally I think I've read an attempt with battery out but plugged into power.
after that its punt and buy a "new to you" one on ebay; they're like $140 now a days.

G925I boots into stock recovery even after flashing TWRP/Philz.

Android version: 5.1.1 (G925i)
Build: DOL5
Stock
I just flashed twrp for 5.1.1 on my edge, everything went perfectly. But when I try to enter the recovery mode, It boots into stock recovery even after flashing twrp.
I have tried odin 3.10.6, 3.10.7
I have also tried couple twrp and philz.
1. Flash recovery with Odin (AP) but *first set don't reboot in Odin*.
Go into Download Mode and flash the recovery.
2. Manually reboot with vol down + home + power. You will see Download Mode again.
Press cancel (vol down) .
At the time of reboot quickly press vol up + power + home.
3. Ready! You should now be into custom recovery!
The problem was that if you let the phone reboot into system just after flashing a custom recovery, the system will overwrite that and return to stock.
You must enter into the new recovery straight away.
Also use Odin 3.10.6
Hope it helps. Let me know.

Thanks for replying.
I tried it, but there was an error "recovery is not sendroid enforcing"
Phone still boots fine.
Okay then. Please follow this link and read very carefully especially posts #1 and #4
That problem is because you need a custom kernel to flash TWRP.
You can also root with this method at the same time.
Let me know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144866
Is your Knox still intact?
BE CAREFUL! THIS WILL TRIGGER KNOX!!
Well I am very sure that you have triggered KNOX already by flashing TWRP...unless you are using an engineered bootloader.

So, I did just as the guy suggested.
I flashed twrp (without rebooting)
Tried to enter recovery (by the same method as shown in the post)
And am Getting same error, Recovery is not sendroid enforcing.
(I used the twrp provided in his post)
I am already out of warranty, so not big of an issue for me
You must follow all the steps mate.
You must also flash the custom kernel and flash SuperSu.
Especially the kernel you must flash so that the custom recovery will work.
Just follow the all the instructions in the first post please.
Try also to read a bit of the thread so you will understand what goes on.
Try and read the first 5 pages and the last 5 pages.

I did follow all the steps.
See, the problem is that I can not even boot into recovery. I get an error "recovery is sendroid enforcing"
First I need to boot into twrp to flash super su and kernel. But my doesnt want to boot into twrp, instead it saying recovery is sendroid enforcing, and turns off.
Edit: I read first 10 and last 10 pages but have not found anything that could help
Are you sure that you can't get into recovery (stock even) and do a factory reset?
If not you are going to have to flash your firmware in Odin again.
Alternatively you can try and download Smart Switch, install to PC, (don't plug phone yet), go to Emergency Recovery and choose the tab on the right, insert your model name, but then you need your S/N.
This should be printed on the back of the phone. If not it was on a little sticker at the back when you bought the phone.
If you can get the S/N you can then follow instructions from the application.
Best is to really trying to get into recovery like I explained and if not just flash the firmware in Odin.

I think this is happening because I have installed latest update. It could be the only reason now.

Will try. But dont think if that will solve.
Maybe custom recoveries dont support new updates.
Please read posts #174, #180, and #181 on the link I gave you.
According to this it is normal and that user can get into TWRP recovery.
You must look at what you may be doing wrong.
Read again the post #4 on how to properly flash everything and boot into recovery.
So did you get it right mate?
I just used the same method as you and I can get into TWRP.
You must be very quick when rebooting from Download Mode to Recovery.
Change from vol down to vol up just as the screen goes off

I have rooted my phone but...

Hello, I am new here and also new to using an android device. I followed instructions to root my phone and now I can access the command "su" in a local terminal. But when I go to download SuperUser it says my device is not rooted. Did I miss something? And if I did mess up and didn't install the right kernel, autoroot or whatever, how do I check my android's model number?

On the back either on the better cover when you peel it off or under the battery it should say something like G900T or G900V depending on your carrier and type of phone I'll help if I can just need to know which model you are actually you might be able to skip my instructions below and just go to install super su and that night work but if not just follow those instructions and you'll be golden if you got any questions pm me or just click the reply button and ask and I'll do my best to answer it
Download the rom you want and kernels that go with it depending on your phones settings such as oj4 OL1 it'll say under settings and about device those versions are the last 3 characters in the field (that confused me at first just a heads up) etc etc make sure theyre all the same also don't forget to download supersu (I can't remember where to find it just go on my topic and someone posted the link there
Put them onto your SD card
Download TWRP 2.8.whatever the newest one is on your computer
Download Odin and on the AP slot or PDA click it then find the TWRP file and click that then go under options on Odin and uncheck autoreboot
Turn your phone off and put it into download mode (press the volume down button and home button and power button at the same time) then the volume up button once the confirmation screen comes on
Then flash the TWRP and once it's done it'll Stat on that screen so you have to remove the battery then put it back in and boot into recovery mode (volume up home button and power button at same time)
Now go into the install button and navigate to your SD card and find the super su and click the install or flash button I can't remember which it is and slide the slider thing and hit reboot phone
When it asks to install super su before you reboot don't click install just reboot it since you've already installed it it'll work
Then go in and you'll have supersu and be rooted
Now boot back into recovery and install/flash the rom and kernel and ignore the supersu install thing again and you'll be good to go I also highly advise making a backup if you have the space for it
Ok I have done that, but now my phone is stuck on the T-Mobile logo...

Well I couldn't find that link but thanks for giving me it. I downloaded SuperSU from google play instead. But I started SuperSU and it wanted to rebuild the cache or something and it gave me the options to do it normally or with twrp so I chose twrp. It rebooted started twrp and started building it, then it started back up and was stuck on the T-Mobile screen. But I downloaded a new rom from sammobile.com and I couldn't get it to work then I renembered something about you have to use a secific Odin version, so I went from 3.10.7 to 3.09 and nothing changed, so then I cleared cache and nothing. So, I went to Odin3 3.07 and nothing so I went back up to 3.09 and it started to stop being soft bricked. And I just have to set everything back up, which will not take long, about 2 hours. So, I will download the SuperSU from that site and I will see if it works again.
Note to self: keep the stock rom, damn it's a huge file.

Either or it really doesn't matter me personally I like deodex just because there's more customizability with it but both do the job also if you do the deodex one it'll take about 10-15minutes to come on after you flash/install it in twrp where as regular should just come on like a normal boot maybe 5 minutes
After about a month of making sure it works I have successfully rooted my phone! Thank you very much!

Samsung s6 (sm-g92of) Wont reboot phone after installing twrp.

Can you attempt to boot to recovery using the correct button sequence?
Boot to recovery with this button combo:
VOLUME DOWN + HOME + POWER
Hold all 3 buttons until you see the blue text in the top left corner of the screen that says:
RECOVERY BOOTING
Also, see if you can boot to DOWNLOAD MODE
Boot to download mode using this button combo:
VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER
If you can boot to recovery, which you said was TWRP, select WIPE, then swipe across to Factory Reset. That might take you out of the boot loop.
If that doesn't allow you to boot normally try to boot to DOWNLOAD MODE and flash a the stock firmware through Odin. If you were running 5.1.1 then flash the stock 5.1.1 firmware for your device and country. You can download the stock firmware from www.sammobile.com. You will have to create an account first. Let me know if you can even boot to recovery or download mode.

When you boot to TWRP, connect to your PC and see if your PC will recognize your device. Then look in Computer and see if you can see the internal storage/sdcard. If you can then you can download a custom ROM and flash it through TWRP. If not, then boot to download mode and flash the stock firmware through Odin.
I put the stock firmware back on, Is my phone still rooted? and will i be able to try using xposed or will i have to start over again?
If you used Odin to flash the stock firmware then your are NOT ROOTED and cannot use Xposed. Now that you have a fresh install, start all over. Take your time and follow whatever instructions you are using. Good luck and let me know if you need any more help.

Yeah no problem. I will make a post in a few minutes with links to guides and files and threads. Hold tight and let me put it together for you.
One thing I need to know though. You said you were able to flash the stock firmware. Which version did you flash? Was it 6.01?

Thanks for all your help

Perfect. Hang tight
Okay. Here is the link for CF Autoroot (see below) that you need to flash through Odin in the AP slot. Scroll down the page and find SM-G920F. There is a download link over to the right side of the page. This is the easiest way to root your device.
CF AUTOROOT - https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
Now, for a custom recovery. There are 2 ways to install TWRP.
1) You can download TWRP Manager from the Play Store and let it install TWRP for you or...
2) You can download the TWRP TAR file and flash it through Odin. Here is the download link to TWRP for Odin. I recommend the Odin installation. You already have Odin open and it's super easy.
https://dl.twrp.me/zeroflte/
Select the latest version which is this:
twrp-3.0.2-1-zeroflte.img.tar
These steps will get you rooted with a custom recovery installed. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Cheers fast!
Can you help me with installing the correct firmware for Xposed?
Thanks

If it boots to stock recovery then the stock rom is replacing TWRP with the stock recovery. Once you are able to boot to TWRP it will patch the stock ROM. Since you are rooted, download TWRP Manager from the Play Store and install recovery that way and once it says it's installed it will ask you if you'd like to boot to TWRP recovery. Lemme look at the Xposed info and I'll post back shortly. Lemme know what happens with the recovery install.

Since you are running a stock 6.0.1 TouchWiz rom I would use this modified Xposed version by @wanam. Here is a link to his thread with instructions and download links.

What other issues are you having right now besides recovery?
