Pyrophag is a customized system image for the 818P based off of completely stock v20h factory image.
There is absolutely no change in appearance, except for LG's stock font Foxrain, which has been replaced with Roboto Condensed (a favorite font of mine); so the ROM is suitable for those who are interested in stuff "under the hood" only. It's basically a boosted stock ROM.
Buttery smooth, incredibly optimized and stable performance all over the ROM;
Significantly reduced amount of heat produced during heavy tasks;
Dual Window for all apps;
60fps FHD video recording;
Slow Motion video recording;
100% photo quality;
Completely stock looks;
None
***YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE MARSHMALLOW (preferably v20h) INSTALLED IN ADVANCE***
***THE PROCEDURE IS SAFE AND NO ISSUE SHOULD HAPPEN. NEVERTHELESS, I DO NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR POTENTIAL BOOTLOOPS/DATA LOSSES OR ANYTHING DURING OR AFTER THE PROCESS***
Backup everything to SD Card through LG Backup;
Extracted the downloaded file (the ROM) and copy s.img into the internal memory of your device;
Turn off the phone, wait for the blinking notification light to go off, press and hold volume up button and connect the phone to your PC simulataneously (do make sure in advance that you have all required drivers installed) to enter Download Mode;
Now open LGUP, choose a v20h KDZ and press Start Flashing;
Keep an eye on the percentage and the other on the phone. As soon as the percentage reaches 9, look at the phone, and the moment a green port number (e.g. COM6) appears on the screen, disconnect the phone immediately (or everything will be erased on your internal memory, so you'll have to copy the system image again) and close LGUP;
Open the folder you have assumingly extracted LG_Root files in, hold down the shift button, right click on the window and choose Open Command Window Here;
Type "Send_Command.exe \\.\COMX" without the quotation marks (X represents the port number shown on your phone);
If you have all drivers installed, you'll be able to commmunicate with the driver now. Type "id" and you should get a response. If so, then it means everything is all right and you're good to go;
Carefully input the following command and press Enter. It will go to a new line and an underscore will start blinking. After a couple of minutes, a hashtag sign will appear. Type "LEAVE", plug out the device, pull the battery and re-start the phone.
Code:
dd if=/data/media/0/s.img bs=8192 seek=55296 count=529920 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0
Enjoy!

It will. Icons will be messed up. The menu icon will be enlarged by, say, 20, and lockscreen shortcuts will disappear. If you really want a 540 dpi version, I could make one.

I'll wait for the 540 or 530 dpi variant mate.
You can use osfmount to modify build.pro or use minimal ADB for any dpi you want, it's very simple and can find by google

Changing DPI through adb has consequences, you shouldn't do that. It'll mess up with icons.

I really hope that version 5.0 only comes to Asian phones (if at all and at most) because that's what typically people from there like. But in my opinion, the new style just moves further away from stock Android look and closer to iOS. The skin looks "heavy" and "bloat -ish". The notification toggles UI got worse and the rounded notifications is not useful. It's like a bit more childish theme. Would be nicer if ZTE actually let us and not them customize the notification toggles. They literally removed one of Android Nougat's offered feature here: customized toggles and hidden menu.
this method is working on G model too.
Installed and followed the instructions to the tee. I have the U variant. Phone is not booting into system, recovery or EDL mode. When trying to power on the phone it vibrates and light blinks twice. Same when trying to boot into recovery.
EDIT: I fixed my problem. It just isnt booting after following the steps tho.

Yeah, guess we'll have to wait and hope MiFavor 5 officially comes to the U version. After many months of using custom ROMs, I came back to plain stock + root and realized how much I missed it. Stock ROM with Nova Launcher isn't that bad. I mean without Xposed, not THAT much you can do on custom ROMs anyway, with the exception of a few minor tweaks here and there. At least not with what I want.
@WesTD do me a favor, please. Create another backup and include system, data and boot. I'm going to make a flashable zip.

It worked on my 2017U. Instead of installing the Google Play Services linked in the OP, I installed it from apkmirror, along with Google Play Store. Worked perfectly. One thing I would like to add, if you are being prompted for a password upon startup, go to TWRP and perform a factory reset. I was and that's what worked for me.
Does Magisk work on this?
It looks like an update came out

Yes. It's paid. I found a free version on their website: http://www.3minit.com/
Just see if it serves your purpose. If you like, then you could buy it after trying out the free version.
Thanks OP.. do you also have guide to install 3minit clock?
Just tried it on my 990DS v20. Works great. Thanks!
Breaks safetynet?

First thank you for this. I've been missing this mod since Oreo came out for us v20 users!
So how hard would it be to get 3minit clock to work on the v20?
Anyone tried this on 20h? Installed the attached MinitBatterySources.apk, then flashed the Themer.zip, then installed 3MinitBatterySettings.apk (4.1.1 from the github repo, not 3.1 from the 3minit web page, which refuses to run due to being old). Rebooted but I don't see any difference in battery, selecting different ones in the app doesn't seem to do anything, even after a reboot. H918.
Edit: Looks like it's because the zip uses /data as a scratch for all its changes, and my /data is encrypted so it can't actually do that. I tried installing the zip on another 20h device that doesn't have an encrypted /data and it worked fine. I tried modifying updater-script and installtheme.sh to use /cache instead of /data, but without luck.
All that said, seeing it on the unencrypted device, I realized that the modified battery status doesn't show up on the second screen, which was the main reason I wanted it (and used it on Nougat). If anyone knows a way to get the battery % in the second screen without having a permanent notification, would appreciate it!

I use a combination of flat status bar indicators from the play store and, gravity box oreo. The picture below shows my current status bar. I just personally used the number instead of the percentage but, you can use the percentage if you want or both.

Hmm, thanks for the suggestion, lots of great options in GravityBox. Unfortunately as far as I can tell, none of the battery/status bar tweaks affect the Second Screen battery icon. It'd be really nice to be able to see my battery level with the screen off (just the second screen on), like I have it setup in Nougat.

I'll try it later when I have time.
However: I could also install non-working bootanimation.zip files on my LOS 18.1 (but on Xiaomi Mi A2) and didn't encounter any crashes.
DId you really flash it? You normally only have to move it to /system/media.

yeah i did via adb terminal using adb root,remount,shell then removing the main bootanimation then run adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
sometimes it works it does show the animation then it will crash then bootloop it
sometimes it will boot but with only the sony logo appearing

When I reboot the phone, it displays the animation okay, but then slows down (still during the first loop), halts, and reboots after a few seconds.

What happens if you do the following:
Code:
prompt_PC:~$ adb shell
prompt:~$ bootanimation
(if you are in your shell, type boot and hit tab-key. I think it was called bootanimation, but maybe it was something similar to that).

@_harley
I don't see your answer here but my email preview says you already answered and said it returns nothing.
Sorry for that, sometimes xda seems to be a bit buggy for me.
I can try your attached boot animimation in about 30 to 60 minutes and will report back what my device does.
If my device reacts strage too, I'll look into it and maybe find a solution (maybe. I just did a few experiments with boot animations which means I'm not that skilled).

Well, now it's there. Okay.
Did you enter your password/pin/pattern/... on your device and viewed the screen while executing that command? It should show your bootanimation if the bootanimation.zip is correct.

Sure, you're welcome.
Okay @_harley , I tried it.
Your version didn't even start for me (no bootanimation) so I unpacked it and changed one letter:
1080 1920 60
c 1 0 part0

Then I repacked it and it works perfectly now.
I attached it again in case you need it.

Yes, it was smooth.
Where does is lag? If it seems slow on specific "places" you may need to reduce pictures which look identical (very simillar) in that part.

Really?
No, on my device it doesn't lag. Maybe it's device specific?
Unfortunately I don't know enough about it to actually have an idea on why this is happening on your device but not on mine.
But I hope you'll solve it!
What you could do, though, is looking at the bootanimation.zip from lineageos – maybe their txt file will give you a hint?
