You can't output music over USB, you could (if your phone supports it) put the phone into USB storage mode and browse it like it was a memory stick and play music via an app on the headunit. Alternatively you can stream music via BT or you can out put from the headphone jack (if equipped) to the Aux Input of the headunit.

Im not looking for a portable speaker accessory what i want to do is find a way to use my g2x smartphone as a portable speaker, say if i have a friends ipod and he doesnt have headphones, iw ant a way to use an aux cable and play his music through my phones speakers. is there any way to do this or an app?
In order for you to be able to do such a task you need to have a "Line In" port on your device. What you can do is stream music from iPod Touch through WiFi to your phone.
OR
If phone supports USB host function you can connect USB Sound Card and use Line In on it.
I bought this car yesterday 01/04/12 and I noticed that it has a USB plug for my phone, so I connected my phone with my Jeep via USB and it does not recognize my phone. Just curious what I have to do to be able to connect the two. It would be pretty sweet because I can load up to 20 gb of storage on my cars hard drive and play music and view pictures and stuff.. so any help would be awesome.
Thank you!
Not likely that the Jeep will interface with your phone. USB ports in cars are generally for thumb drives that you put MP3 files on or for updating the Nav systems. Try calling a Jeep dealer for more info on what capabilities that USB port has.

Thank you, I'll just do it that way.
Might need to put the phone into USB storage mode - gotta tap on one of the notifications.
Can't help too much more - I haven't used USB mass storage mode in ages, being lazy I just adb push/pull.
Putting it in mass storage mode usually works. I haven't used it in a while either as I use bt now. But if you have an external card also the read time when you first plug it in could take a few min.

If it has a USB connection then mass storage should work for mp3's and some other music formats. It does in mine. If for some odd reason it doesn't you should check if it has bluetooth. You can then stream your music and/or do hands free calling

Well, I've got it connected via "UConnect". Does that also give me the ability to stream my music?

No. I also have an '08 Jeep GC with the Nav radio. In order to play music from the SG2 you will need to connect via AUX input. If you have the rear entertainment unit you can connect the SG2 to those inputs. (Of course you'll need a micro usb to RCA cable but you can get one custom made. Check the accessories thread as there is a member making them.) Else you'll need to connect the SG2 via the headphone jack to the 3.5" input on the radio. Another option is the Lockpick device for the NAV radio. You can google MyGIG Lockpick for more details.
Update: Here's the link to the thread for custom cable. Not sure if he's making anymore but you can check. I bought one and it works great.

Hey there!
I'm kind of looking into buying a docking station for my g nexus and I came up with some questions.
The general purpose for me would be to play music with a high quality. So, how does this work for the androids? Is it possible to connect the device via usb and play the music over it? Most of the docks I saw seemed to use Bluetooth to play the music and had the usb port only for charging the phone, if they even had any.
Is it possible to control the phone (e.g. skip a track, choose another track...) via bluetooth or does it only play the music and you have to control everything on the phone itself?
Final questions: Any suggestions on good hardware?
Thanks to everyone,
Harper
It is kind of weird thing I am trying to do but I am sure it is not impossible. Just looking for ways if anybody has already tried before might save my time and afforts.
At work I've PC with internet but without bluetooth, and a Galaxy S3 without data plan! I want to play music (online music streaming sites) on my PC, have that music (from audio out jack on PC) to Galaxy S3 (hope it will go to mic in if I use male to male aux cable?) and then an App that sends that incoming music stream to bluetooth audio output of GS3 and then listen to it on my sony stereo bluetooth headset!
Sounds odd right? The thing is I can not buy & plug in bluetooth dongle to my work PC and I can not afford the data plan as of now.
So looking forward to all ideas!
Thanks.
Hi everyone I recently switched over to Android from iPhone for the first time and have been researching all kinds of stuff like crazy.
My issue is getting my music and playlists to pop up in my cars media system when I plug it in via USB. All my music and playlists are on my SD card because it won't all fit on internal storage. I'm not as knowledgeable as many of you here but after doing some research I think the problem is because I cannot put my phone into mass storage mode and adoptable storage doesn't exist on this phone. When I plug it into my car the only sound files are some weather notification tone and another type of beeping noise or something.
If there's an easy way to manage music on my SD card without having to remove it and plug it into my computer I would love to know that as well. A couple apps I tried could only connect to my internal storage for some reason.
Thanks in advance.
I use "Poweramp" (which I think is the best media player available for android):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
and "Bluetooth Connect & Play":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cp2.start.and.play.music.player
Bluetooth Connect & Play allows me to choose what app I want to launch when I connect to the media centre in my car (Power amp). Works perfect.

Thanks for the reply but I don't want to connect with Bluetooth. I want a USB connection for the audio quality and so that all my media shows up on my car screen so I can search through playlists and sounds with my car not the phone
Does your head unit read your iphone like a hard drive? I think your head unit need to be android compatible for that to work on the G5 but I'm not sure.
My wife just told me hers does that. I'm not sure why it wont read from your sd card.
