Hi everyone! I have this phone for a week now and it's beautiful, my previous Android phone was a p9 and I have noticed that selfie quality was better on p9, a lot better. Mate 9 makes my selfie too white, even if I disable beauty mode. I have touched every setting but pictures seems worse than p9 and I actually hope better quality. Have you noted the same thing? My mate 9 model is Latin America (c605 I think)
Any info would be appreciate than you.

I've noticed this also. It's definitely a light issue as I've taken some really good selfies.
You can change a setting at the top in the centre when you swap the camera around. It keeps the setting and when you flip back to selfie keeps it. I think this helped reduce the whiteness.

Thank you for your reply . I dont understand what setting are you talking about, it is a setting for the rear camera or for the selfie camera? In the read camera, in the center of the main screen i only see the the color mode (standard, "smooth colors" or "vivid colors") is that the setting you are talking about?
Thank you in advance and excuse my poor english

Hi.
Yes that was the setting. I changed it and then switched the selfie camera. Seemed to work as I managed to take a really good selfie that was good enough as a profile photo. It is still a little white though.
Just out of interest are you using the Chinese Rom version?

Thank you for your reply. I'm not using the Chinese version, I'm using the rom for Latinoamérica as I'm from argentina and my home language is Spanish. I'm with the b111 software version, waiting for the new update, do you have it?
Hmm. No I've just rebranded my phone to L29. I think it's a lighting issue. Some of the selfish I've taken are way too pale. I've turned that beautify app off which seems to be the culprit take a selfie with the light in front of you should reducer be amount of whitening effect.
Try cleaning the camera from fingerprints can help a lot.
Anyone has tried using selfie stick for mate9? If yes please come to this topic to help me, it seems not working on my mate9 Thanks!

Hello guys.
I'm thinking about this phone.
Everything is excellent, but still im concerned about camera(front facing/selfie)
So, would anybody share his/her selfie with me?
And... what phone wins: Zenfone 2 or OnePlus X in matter of selfie?
here a selfie on a movie set. it was quite dark in the room. no daylight and some smoke maybe.

the built-in camero of OOS. For me it's good enough.
Acc to me front camera is betrer than most of the phones
I believe ,my friends, and all who have seen my phone,
Says tht its front camera is second to none.
To be honest i feel the front cameea to be the best of all the phones i have seen.
Oos camera is pretty good with face beauty and it works perfectly.
Normal images are clear to .
And if u want to buy this phone becoz of the camera ,then i shall remind u . it give perfect shot for selfies!! ??
I've seen people complaining that this front camera gave too much distortion comparing to other device. Honesty, I don't have comparison point and I don't use it....

It performs pretty well in good lighting conditions. Especially the beauty mode cleans all blemishes and unwanted things in our face. So we look pretty good than real.
Other then looking like a Japanse Anime character.. Without those filters i would give it a 7.5. When its dark a 4

There is a beauty slider. Set it to 3 or 5, you will get good quality of your face. Some ppl try to keep it 10 to look extremely beautiful.
I wouldn't say it's the best front facing selfie camera, but it does the job even in good lighting, not so bad at low light, but isn't great.

Thank you so much for saying that our front camera is awesome! We truly appreciate your review. Here at Honor, we truly care about our customers and their comments. Don't forget to try the "Capture smiles" mode, which takes your picture automatically when it detects a smile. You can access that setting by going to the settings within your camera app and enabling it. (ED)

cheers :good:
Sub parts, beauty mode is bad
Does the job
I use the front cam all the time for various purposes. Quite happy with it.
I am a camera shy guy so selfies don`t matter to me. But whenever I took them, that 5MP front camera is just enough. Front camera pictures give 'painting-like' pictures when zoomed in about 75%. My rating is 6/10.
I don't take selfies that much so this is sufficient for me.

Just good. Not bad.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I'll be honest, it's pretty bad, frequently off focus, poor low light, lack of stabilization, but maybe fine for the price range I guess
Redmi Note 5 is probably the better choice for photo quality
Nonetheless, I think updates might help. At least I hope

In daylight conditions pictures turns out good with good focus , saturation levels etc. But color reproduction needs work and in low light conditions noise is quite apparent. Portrait is like 7/10. Selfies turn out good after the recent update, 8.5/10.
P.S. For stabilized videos I use nokia camera app and its upto the mark .
Low-light picture quality is abominable. Zoom tears images, there is a lot of noise. Images in daylight are pretty decent. For this price range, the camera quality is justifiable (I suppose). I have a Moto G4 Plus and it takes amazing photos compared to this device. If you remove the portrait mode, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 has nothing over the Moto G4 Plus camera.
Hope to see changes in future updates.
Yes, pretty disappointed with the camera performance. I should have got the RN5 instead but since I already got this, I'll stick with it as taking pictures is not the main thing for me on this phone. Still, the quality is far off from the various paid reviews.

For sure Gcam pics are better. I have been using it from past one week and will sure never turn back to stock camera.
Moreover with Gcam you also get additional features like panorama , ar stickers and google lense.
Can anyone show the photo quality difference with gcam and the stock one?

I am yet to purchase the phone. I have seen lot of camera comparison with Redmi note 5 pro on YouTube but still confused. I am planning to use Lineage os if I buy the device.

Don't know but it is definitely better than the original Asus camera app
Earlier the photos taken from Asus were not that great as that of redmi note 5pro, but now with Google cam installed these are now coming extra ordinary, thanks for the team made possible without rooting the phone.

I installed Google camera after enabling api through fastboot but not much big effect is seen from Snapdragon camera
For example I did portrait mode on Google camera but it takes much time than Snapdragon camera and also showing images of low resolution and small megapixel (my camera support 16 MP but it showed images from 8 MP and allow motion is not working and hdr+enhanced is allowed but not working, the camera got stuck every time it is turned on
Okay at well lit conditions, not good at low light
During daylight, the rear camera photos are good.
But the phone doesn't focus properly on close objects.
The low light camera is bad. A lot of noise, less light detection, slow focus, etc.
The video quality (1080p) during day is good. But the device takes time to focus during a video recording.

Unless you have really good light, selfie's aren't the best. Ridiculous amount of face smoothing I just can't seem to get rid of. Even with the settings turned off, it just does smoothing so it looks terrible.
Rear camera is good.
I have a big issue with my front camera...
When I try to take a selfie, if behind the subject there's a light(natural or artificial), the photo become blurry.
I compared my device with one exposed in a store and only my device has this issue(the settings were the same on both devices)....
Anyone has/had the same problem? If yes, how did you solve it?
I've already tried a factory reset but the problem still remain...
Gcam mod on the Note 9 takes considerably better selfie pix than the stock camera. No smoothing and a lot more detail.
Unfortunately the selfies are terrible. I have tried Android pie on the note 9 and I can say with that OS upgrade the selfie cam does get marginally better thank goodness.
The selfie cam in my opinion is bad quality. The photos are usually blurry except you are stood very still and have very good light. I think perfomance is not good enough for a €/£1000+ device and hopefully a software upgrade will fix the issue particularly the time it takes to focus
The gcam port makes the quality so much better

I have this phone for a day and I'm experiencing the same problem. All selfies look unnatural. Everything is too smooth, and blurry, just bad quality I think.
The only complain I have about the front camera is the angle. With my old LG G6 I could easily get the whole family in while talking with relatives and friends on video call.
With the Note 9 I can barely get myself in.

I'm still waiting for the update as I'm from Canada, Otherwise, I've had my N9 snapdragon for less then a month and I've used Urnyx's 7.3 v2.4: GCam & PixelCam_7.3_V5.0 by jairo_rossi and those camera apps are stable and work better than the stock camera (One UI 2.1)

I didn't tried to take selfie since the update
Quality
Selfie quality was superb in oreo 8.1, I don't see much quality after updating the phone to Android 9 or 10 versions
The self-camera on the Note 9 is actually pretty good quality when compared to most laptop and 3rd party USB Webcams. I have use it for video conferencing via Zoom, MS Teams and Cisco. All of the time the picture quality from my Note 9's selfie-camera seems to be much better quality than others who are using a laptop or traditional USB webcam

G cam from 7T works on the 8pro except no telephoto camera crashes the app when enabled

Photos have been a huge step up in quality from my 6t (not surprising). Does anyone know how to force the app to take in 48MP by default? There is no option that I can see to change that.

Been impressed with the camera so far. Telephoto is still hit and miss and haven't used wide angle loads but the main sensor is a big improvement over the 7 pro

I hope gcam comes when support for all the sensors
And don't forget the colour filter camera is actual an X-RAY cam!

I have terrible lens flare effect, device is going back.. 1/4 of the pictures had it... At a price tag of 999 , this is not acceptable for me.. saw it on some youtuber reviews to (but they didnt mention it in one word). Guess exchanging the device will not help
Will keep my old device for a couple of months and wait for october , hehe
autofocus and main sensor is better then s20 ultra , I am owner of s20 ultra and oneplus 8 pro at the same time .
in worse light scenario oneplus win in most time , photos almost always are sharp
but in zoom S20 always wins

I see an issue where you have red blotches
I haven't experienced the sun flare.
I have taken many pictures outdoors while hiking in various conditions and I am mostly happy with the camera. HDR is good and i like the exposure and colors I get. I don't really take any zoomed in shots so i can't speak to that but I generally like the shots coming out of the wide angle and main sensor.
a couple notes:
- I still notice a different white balance between the main and wide angle camera. Nothing bad and I still like both results
- Nightscape photos I notice a red tint in places. Some of the youtube reviews have mentioned this as well.
Will be interesting to see what this camera could do after a few updates over the summer.
I see that something in the indoor photo the focus is very bad at the corner of the picture... Someone has the same problem?
