There seems to be little consistency on to which phone will actualy work with Samsung Gear Manager paired with the Gear S.
Samsung own words on the matter seems to be "Samsung phone with Android 4.3 or later", but let's be honest, one could ask Samsung the same question twise, and get three answers back. I should think the voice of this community would give a better indication on what works and not.
Could someone with permissions greate a sticky thread for this, so we could fill in phone model, maker, firmware, watch firmware and Samsung Gear Manager version. Along with a description on that experience.
Sprint Galaxy S5 (stock root) - 4.4.2
Gear S (Sprint variant) - R750PVPU1ANJ7
Gear Manager - 2.2.14102499
GS is running as I had hoped it would. For my needs/wants, its a great experience. Only problem I have is with email. Im unable to compose email. But I can reply. I just need 4.4.4 on my S5 and it will work. But this fix is not high on my priority at all.

If you have a Samsung device (phone or tablet) that is 4.3 and above and not compatible with your Gear S, chime in on their FB support page. Maybe Samsung is not even aware of these issues.
phone model: Note II
firmware: 4.4.2
watch firmware: r750tuvu1anj7 (t-mo version)
Samsung Gear Manager version: 2.2.14110499
Seems to be fully compatible.
Hmmm
All Galaxy phones running "official" 4.3+" are guaranteed to work, it's just that the available features will depend on your connected phone's model, and various versions of the required software on your phone as well.
To compile a full list of who has what phone and what does and doesn't work would be a massive undertaking!
I agree, they shouldn't limit some features to some Galaxy phones and their respective Android versions. But it's stated clearly in the manual and in the promo materials.
Note II (VZW): SCH-i605
Android Firmware: 4.4.2 (R3ds ROM)
Gear S: AT&T version
Gear Manager: 2.2.141102499
Samsung/Galaxy Apps store (this matters too): 14093005.02.008.1

Well, yesterday I contacted Samsung support spesificly on the Young 2(SM-G130H) - 3.5", Android 4.4.2, BT, WLAN, GPS, Cheap:
"Shure. No problem. Android 4.3 or newer"
So I went to the store today and tried apps.samsung.com/gear (URL from the frontpage of Gear S the quickguide) from the Young 2:
"this devices does not support Gear. "
Well, my contribution is that the Young 2 doesn't work
disclaimer: yes, I know the Young 2 is garbage, but I only wanted it for firmware update, syncronise contacts, transfere apps and music. Nothing fancy.

Cannot always go by what a Samsung Rep may say. Same goes for many carrier reps.
For optimum performance/connectivity, you'll need newer and much advanced Samsung Phone. Using older/cheaper devices will more thank likely not work (or be very limited in use).

THIS get a S3 or newer then your good to go
Hi Guys, I want to ask you for your help.
I have a gear fit and I have been trying to pair it with my note 4 with lollipop. At first I thought It was the note 4 that had problems but then I tried a galaxy s4 and galaxy s4 active, both with lollipop and could not get my gear fit to pair.
I downloaded the patched gear fit manager for lollipop and got it to work but not as desired as gear fit wont sync with S HEALTH or endomondo, also the gear fit manager is an old version. I have tried all new versions of gear fit manager but all of them get stuck in "connecting to gear fit" and then nothing happens it goes back to search a device.
I don't know what else to do, please help me.
Regards.

No, that's impossible. You can never pair your Gear S with non-samsung phone. Gear S2 or S3 could be ok.

Hello all,
I am about to pick up a gear fit and looking through the forums and also having lots of experience with the original galaxy gear I wanted to share some thoughts with the experts.
Firstly looking at the fit 2 it definitely does support android 6.0 and non Samsung devices. But one main difference is that there is no Gear fit manager but a Gear Manager unified for all devices. ( all devices being Gear S, S2 and fit2)
Actually my LG device (6.0) can see and download the latest gear manager just fine, but don't have the gear fit yet to test.
Now the way it works is by using a plugin for the fit 2 which is also available on the store. So my idea is, is there or was there a Gear fit plugin that if we load could work with the latest gear manager which is android 6.0 and non-Samsung compatible? Or could we get the fit 2 plugin to work on our device?
Just stating my thoughts hopefully not just wasting your time.
Pavlos
Gear fit 2
I have a gear fit 2 and a Motorola droid turbo 2 (on 6.0) and they work perfectly together. All I did was download the Samsung gear app from the play store and the other apps it said it needed. What I'm looking to try and do is find non Samsung store apps I can put on the watch, like a weather app would be great.
If I am not mistaken all new samsung gears run the Tizen OS which maybe makes the compartibility with other devices and android 6.0 easier. The original GearFit runs RTOS which could be the reason it was left out, maybe?
I never followed how good it selled but I am guessing not that good since it was only usuable with samsung mobiles which makes the target group smaller. Probably they don't even care, for the ones that bought it or would be now willing to buy it, in order to spend resources to either update the OS on the original GearFit to make it compartible with the Gear Manager or to update the old GearFit Manager to make it compartible with newer android versions.
Theoritically it would be possible patching the new Gear Manager somehow for Gear Fit. But I don't know if anyone would think the trouble and work doing it is worthwhile..
Hello to all,
i bought a new Samsung Gear S. I don't know why this market still had a sealed box. Well I bought this smartwatch because I read a lot about connecting to other android devices like HTC M8.
I have a rooted stockrom HTC 10 and I thought this would not be a problem, but I cannot connect to Samsung Gear S. I have followed the instructions on some websites using special apk files, I can start Gear Manager but cannot find the Gear S.
Is there a way to connect? I'm all set to unroot my device, maybe I would use a custom rom if this helps. Can somebody tell me how to connect this Gear S?
HTC 10, Android 6.0.1
Gear S, R750XXU2BOG2
thanks for helping and sorry for my bad english
Short answer is NO, Gear S (and 1 & 2) are only compatible with Samsung phone. All others methods are uncertain and with very little success
