I'm still using the LG keyboard (various reasons why, but they aren't important ) and it appears that the Nougat update has removed the option to switch keyboard themes.
Am I missing the option to switch themes or are we really stuck with the white keyboard now?
Yeah, gone... And none available at lg world.

Lol it hasn't gone anywhere. Nougat now has theming built in on the G5. For a black keyboard, simply apply a dark theme.
While it is not a perfect option...it is the only option currently available to have a dark keyboard (install a dark theme).
It is ultimately down to personal taste i guess.. but i think most people will run a dark theme with a dark LG keyboard and vice versa with a light theme?..
Regardless....the option is there if you need it ?.

The overall dark theme messes with way too many other things, IMO. Silly to remove customization features, considering that's the big selling point of Android devices over iOS...

That's the point of the dark theme/themes though, it changes your phones overall theme to dark.
The idea is to have everything uniformly themed...ie light everything.. Or.. Dark everything.
It's my own personal opinion...but why have a light theme with a dark keyboard... Or.. Have a dark theme with a light keyboard?
It seems to go against the general uniform "theming" one would try to achieve.
Anyway I take on board what you are saying... you would like the full option of a mixed theme customisation.
Hopefully a full/mixed option will become available in future updates...just don't hold your breath lol.
Keyboard customization vs. Phone theming?
Your argument about theming doesn't really hold water, because you could obviously have more than one keyboard that would work with a given phone theme in terms of being dark light red whatever. I myself run a dark grey theme and there were a number of LG themed keyboards that worked well within that design/color parameter and I could change those and still maintain the so-called theme of my phone. Obviously you're not familiar enough with the LG themed keyboards or theming to understand that more than one keyboard can work (in terms of style/color) within a given theme. It wasn't just a case of them being light or dark . But to the larger point people like Android as opposed to iOS because Android is customizable/changeable. LG did a silly thing by getting rid of the different phone themes which are essentially overlays.

It seems like such a simple thing...it can be done system-wide by editing the framework file, but it seems like using the CM Theme Engine would be much nicer.
Is there any such theme, which is just Holo Light (or Holo Light with Dark Action Bar)?
I second that request. I have a feeling Key Lime Pie will put a huge emphasis on Holo Light and I want to be a part of that.

I think the closest you will get is a miui theme :/
I haven't tried it, but https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cm.theme.HoloWhite looks nice in the screenshots.

How do you do this on a system wide level by editing the framework file? I tested a couple of CM holo light themes but they dont work to well on the S4 due to the screen resolution I think but I would really like to enable it...

There's a thread on XDA about it (I think in this forum, or in the SW Development forum), but the answer is effectively changing "theme=holo" to "theme=holo.light" in one of the framework XML files. Since Holo, Holo Light, and Holo Light with Dark Action Bar are in-built Android themes, this change lets all OS rendered screens (preferences, etc.) change theme. It doesn't affect applications (since that's an application preference setting for Holo based applications), but it's a pretty elegant solution nonetheless.

I tried the first one, but the notifications and the tiles in the quick settings panel are dark and it looks very inconsistent.
The theme engine will. Other be able to make a complete light theme as it is limited in what it can do.

Hello
I am a casual rom flasher zip flasher restore to factory then move on to next handset kind of guy. I have 0 development experience.
I am quite irked and strongly dislike the white background themes of the s5, could anyone point me or help create something compatible for android 5.0 that removes or inverts the white, and makes the text another visible color like blue or white or something.
The settings screen is terrible with all the white, I would keep everything the same except the font text, and white background and make it black if i knew how.
The Dialer is terrible and white again
The keyboard is white the messaging background is white (i really miss all the colors schemes of the galaxy s2, an outdated but heck of a device.)
The about screen and menu prompts are white (all the sub options under settings are white)
Why do the carriers insist on making everything white, and why do us carriers not allow for theme changing (this was issue with the g3 which i gave up to go to the s5 for the battery saving mode because the g3 battery died in less than 5 hours, but the g3 even was all white with no theme changer stock)
I am willing to donate beer or coffee to whoever can create something to address these issues
I will appreciate being pointed in the right direction of anything that exists that can help me solve these white screen theme issue
there is something i came across through xposed framework that was Lthemer or lollopop themer but it did not work for me or i did not know how to use it.
I am reaching out to the community thanks and I appreciate it. I only created this thread because all the things and mods and themes i saw were for kit kat and not lollipop

Well i have one theme working on thr G6 right now and I have a thread open in the themes and apps section for support and feedback.
Now this is slightly tricky because there are some obstacles I am facing with porting some of these over. I cannot port over them all due to some extreme ui differences in a few apps. The main issue (but not the only one ) is because with the G6 there are a few apps where the text is hard coded white and thr same apps the trxt is hard coded black. So in short one device will get screwed with either dark text on a dark background or white text on a light background which creates readability issues. I most certainly cannot have that happen. And also the G6 has a lot of different elements that can be themed. So if i were to add those to an exisiting v20 theme it will cause the v20 to no longer work because it's telling the theme engine to theme xxx icon or xxx color which isn't supported. Thus the theme doesn't function. So that's an issue.
So what the plan is, is to port over a few themes that I can get it to function properly on both devices and the ones that can't will have to be a new theme.
Off the top of my head the ones that can expect to work on all devices are: Dark Nougat (already updated and live), Flow, Indigo flow and crush.
Remix, Vector, Dark Material, Dark AOSP, Pixel Ui are not going to work and will have to be new themes that will only work with the G6.
I'm not sure about Dark Ui theme yet. It may or may not work.

Interesting you say that, because I have some issues with some of the LG free themes from their smartworld store. Mainly with the notification panel. When there is a notification, the text is white same as the background. I am surprised on how they can mess up big time like that!

Just a heads up for anyone looking to darken things up on their XZ1C...
I decided to make myself a guinea pig for the Substratum theming engine with the Andromeda plugin. The bright white menus were driving me crazy. It worked!
Here are the steps I took:
1. Install Substratum engine/app on phone
2. Purchased and installed Andromeda app on phone
3. Installed Swift Black theme (noted as compatible with Android 8.0.0)
4. Downloaded and unzipped the Andromeda client batch folder to my PC
5. Enabled ADB debugging on phone
6. Set the connection to "Transfer files" on phone
7. Ran the batch file on my PC
8. Batch file automatically runs Substratum in Andromeda mode on phone
9. Selected Swift Black theme
10. Selected "Android 8 - Nexus and Pixel" in dropdown menu
11. Applied all available overlays in Swift Black theme
12. Rebooted phone
I was pleasantly surprised after I rebooted. Everything looks perfect! No crashes. So far, all menus and apps seem to have themed correctly. Notifications look as they should.
EDIT: I found one small hiccup. Notifications on the lockscreen are still white. Font is a bit hard to read. I just disabled lockscreen notifications, since i'm wearing a smartwatch.
EDIT 2: Phone dialer app not theming
Cheers for the tips, I tried it and it works.
Great.
Thanks for sharing.
I can't seem to get black on the phone app though, everything else looks fab. Am I missing something?

I am having that problem too.
Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have a theme released for XPERIAS. Settings, SystemUI and the Dialer is done, almost finished the framework but as usual a new version of Android brings new code so figuring that out, on top of Android Studio and the Substrtum theme template is taking time. Might have to disable Sonys theme app too as I know the theme apks also have their own assets which overlay certain colours.
EDIT: Confirmed that Sonys themes will need to be uninstalled because they overlay the top of Substratum themes. @Didgesteve, @WaxysDargle, can you post some screenshots of the themed menus etc please?

lockscreen notifications still white. i did see one android system notification that looked right, but messaging, email etc are still white with grey text.
however, that did fix my power menu colors (black now)
what theme(s) are you using? i think some of this could be related to which themes we are using.
also, maybe we should try "Other" instead of "Android 8 - Pixel and Nexus"?

No, they are standard white with black writing. But I didn't tick the framework box (top option) in the Swift Black. I think playing with the three dropdowns underneath that first tick option will decide what colour your notifications are and what colour the writing is. That's where you will find the solution. I'm not that fussed about getting notifications black. Previous experience with Layers on my Z3c leads me to believe that it's incredibly difficult to get notifications right and you usually end up making some app or other unreadable. Swft Black is great, but I think Spectrum is also worth a look, a couple of apps look better with that.

Again, Sonys themes overlay certain colours in certain apps, in each theme there are about 7 or 8 assets from the framework to the SystemUI so if a certain colour isn't changing it's because Sonys theme has taken preference. I've removed all of them so Substratum is the main theme engine and not Sonys.

You are NOT using the default theme.
Your problem is you are using the High Contrast orange theme.
Stop using that and you won't have orange.
There are other themes from developers you can download. Some are free, some cost money. Make sure you download the ones compatible with V30 Pie.

I was just differentiating between "default" theme and the selection of "stock" themes on the phone, as well as besides offering a solution (download 3rd party V30 Pie compatible theme, customized how you like).
I'm glad you found an acceptable theme. You probably found it before I even posted.
I agree I would want to change accents to this theme too like for e.g to red or blue etc etc

Stock High Contrast theme accents can't be changed. You need to find custom theme on Google Play you like.

Not that I know of.
Go look for custom themes in Google Play.
If you have stock Oreo, look for LG UX 7 themes.
If you have stock Pie, look for LG UX 8 themes.
