Hello everyone!!!
I have a problem, a very big problem...
I had CM14.1 5/12 Official build nightly properly working, and I left the phone without using it for about 2 hours... When I took it, I tried playing music, but there was no sound... However, I was receiving notification sound... I made a call, on both modes, normal and speaker mode, it worked, calling to myself - the phone rang... But no multimedia sound, music players, YouTube... No multimedia sound was being reproduced...
I reflashed the ROM, with full wipes, and flashed plenty of ROMs, both MIUI, CM13 and CM14.1 based, also restored full MIUI backup from TWRP... No result, fastboot flashed offical global dev 6.12.1, EDL and fastboot flashed 7.5.3 MIUI, flashed Qualcomm factory ROM by QFIL... No result!!
If I put my headphones, multimedia sound works, but won´t reproduce on speaker... On MIUI and Qualcomm factory ROM, the headphone logo appears on the statusbar, and it can´t be removed, no matter headphones are connected or not... I think this has something to do with this problem!
Any idea?
Pls help!! I am lost and I don´t know what to do more than that!
Thanks and regards!!
Try to clean the headphone jack ...
May be water had entered into the headphone jack...
In such a case, keep the mobile reverse (headphone jack facing downwards) for at least 2-3 hours and clean the jack with cotton and blow air into the jack.
Also try to use volume control apps from playstore to increase media volume
Also enter into the QC Test mode and test the hardware....

i had the same problem few years back on Zenfone 2 4gb, whenever i flash custom kernel or cm roms.. this used to happens with my device specifically.. headset always plugged in... in your case first you have to figure out is this issue is physical or software issue, whenever you get headset pluged in.. just plug in the headset and then take it out.. now play music and observe the issue...
secondly there may be water or moisture joining the contact pins.. buts thats rare.
Thank u all for your answers, I first got the answer on CM14.1 post...
The headphone jack was dirty, with a small stick, I introduced it and screen turned on and stick got a little dark... And now it works!! So it was hardware problem (software was almost impossible, I had tried everything)
Thanks and regards everyone!

I had the same issue. No media sound but sound working fine in notifications and alarm. Was on Stock MIUI. Changed to Nitrogen Rom. The issue persisted. When I searched around find this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/help/sound-speaker-playing-music-t3478002
Tried the solution mentioned there i.e. plugging and unplugging a headset into the jack a few times fastly. I did around 8 plug unplugs and it worked.

There is a big audio issue with my RN3. Since I installed CM13 official nightly the loud speaker stopped working while using media playbacks. But only the ringtone is working fine, means the loud speaker only works when getting a call but it does't work during a call. I ignored it for a while thinking the next update might solve the issue. Still the problem persists. So, a while back I started using CM 14.0 and 14.1 by santosh. And new isuue came up, now the in speaker (ear) stopped working but the loud speaker is fine during a call. Also the media is all mute, can't hear anything. And yesterday I installed 7.1 rom by abhishek987 same issue. Could someone please explain what might be the problem and help me solve the issue.
Hmm... Did you make clean installs (wipe everything except microsd?)
You could try flashing back MIUI and see if it fixes it, if not im afraid it might be a hw problem
I have (almost) the sam issue.
What i have done: i did a factory reset through twrp and switched from crdroid 7.0 to santosh cm 14.1. All was fine, but yesterday i recognized my mic is not working (phone call, audio recording, Google search etc...). BUT: loudspeaker is working fine, even audio recording via Video.
What i have done:
-restored backup from crdroid 7.0
-restored backup from aicp 12
But my mic is still not working
I also did a full wipe (including /system) and installed aicp 12.1. it does not work
What can i do?

Update: even with my Bluetooth headset with INTEGRATED microphone, i cant make a call or recording...
Must be a Software issue, but why i cant revert via backup?! Seems like Firmware / radio issues for me and that my alka / cofface recovery did not backup these partitions?!

Yeah. This happens from time to time in this phone. Try to clean your mini jack and it should work all fine.

I'm afraid its not a solution for me
I cleaned my headphone plug and my incall voice is still not working.
If i play music, my loudspeaker is on. Wouldnt, if my redmi would think a headphone is plugged in.

Greetings. Phone appears to be stuck on headset mode, even when headset is not connected. As a result, the device's main speaker does not produce any sound while the front speaker does not function during a call. As a workaround I am using the SoundAbout app to redirect audio to its respective speakers, however I would love a have a more permanent fix. I've tried 2 different roms and the problem persists on both. (Umang96's Unofficial rom with Radon kernel and, what I'm running now, the latest official nightly for my device with stock kernel). If a headset is conencted it works flawlessly, so I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem. I tried cleaning the audio jack using a cotton bud, but it didn't help. Can someone point me to a solution for this ? Thanks for your time in advance.
ps: My device is the Kenzo variant.
That's funny, I had the same problem this morning. Over here I poked inside the audio jack with a tooth pick and blowed compressed air it. It seemed tout have fixed it, for now anyway. (It just suck I wiped my whole phone before trying this)
So I'm using Redmi Note 4 snapdragon for about 4 months and i never encountered any problem till now... I don't know if it's because of update or what but my mobile is showing headphone connected symbol in status bar... If a call comes i can't hear through earpiece i have to plug in headphones or switch to speaker mode. Moreover i can't play songs on speaker as it is in headphone mode... I searched on net for hours and tried to clean with earbud... Formatted the phone/reset... I tried to change mi sound enhancer settings plugging in headphones in and out... Rebooted several times... Nothing works... So wanted to ask what to do? Will switching to custom rom solve my problem? Is it because of update or hardware fault? Any help would be much appreciated :')
Well, you're not alone.
The solution is to plug in your headphone/earphone again n' again and unplug it until the icon/sign gets disappear.
Hey everyone,
So this issue has been ongoing for a while and it's a pretty confusing one. (Running OG Pixel from Canada, originally from Telus)
My speakers and microphone suddenly stopped working when I upgraded to Android 9. I thought it could have been a hardware failure, but after much testing it's clearly software related.
I bought a Bluetooth headset, audio works when it's rooted to a Bluetooth device, but the microphone still doesn't work.
When I go into settings, and adjust the volume for the ringer and the alarm, my speakers work.
When I boot into safe mode, my microphone works for one recording, then stops working. However my speakers don't work in safe mode.
I have flashed an OTA recovery, done a factory reset and also uninstalled updates to the phone, sms and camera app in a hopes it was an issue with one of those.
Any ideas of what it could be?
Do I need to install TWRP and reflash a custom rom?

Did anything helped??? I am facing the same issue with my phone if your device got normal please help.!
Hello everyone.
The problem with my phone is that it doesn't play any audio/sound in phone calls, music apps, YouTube etc. For example: when I try to call somebody it shows calling interface, but then just stuck/lag and go back to home screen. When I run music app and try to play any song, time moves normal but there is no sound. Youtube stuck on 0:00 and circle is endlessly rotating.
I was thinking that speaker/microphone/usb port broke down, so I bought new one, replaced speaker/mic/usb port but the problem still exists. I' ve flashed every custom pie roms on this forum before replacing port but nothing helped.
Maybe someone have any idea where is the problem or how to fix it?
Sorry to bump this thread but i also have the same problem now. Audio is ok using bluetooth peripheral but without it just no sound at all coming from the phone. It also cause trouble in apss with audio like video recorder, whatsapp, spotify failed to launch etc.
Heyyo @miniol94 (sorry for late response) and @Gumuk28, but have you guys tried QFIL to check for sure if it's a software issue?

Thanks for the reply. No, i haven't try using QFIL. What i tried are the same thing with miniol94 did.
@Gumuk28 then I would definitely recommend trying QFIL. If audio works fine there? Then the issue is definitely software.
Afterwards, I'd recommend flashing device firmware of your choice, then the custom ROM and GApps and no other mods then test audio again. Sometimes audio mods btw can break functionality, so entirely up to you if later on you want to try audio mods and such.

Hi..tried the Qfil but i forgot flashing device firmware as you suggested. Instead skip it to custom ROM (installed RevengeOS) and still no audio (but it fixed some other issue i have, before Qfil my touch screen frequently randomly stop functioning but now it work normally.
Other things interesting is now my phone had message "can't record audio. Another app using the mic" when i try to record video so I think its sofware issue?
Do you think i should try qfil again and flashing the device firmware this time? Thank you for your suggestion
@Gumuk28 does the audio work correctly under EUI ROM after the QFIL?
Same problem for me. Sound works then not when i plug /unplug usb charger. It seems to be confused as if I had plugged an audio usbc headset. If I unplug then replug sometimes the sound comes back... \_(-_-)'_/
This does not occur under Eui roms but only under custom aosp or other non eui roms.
qfil helps only to restore fully eui and gets the sound working back but switching to other non eui rom brings the problem back.
I had to use a playstore app to control the sound output.
I also have another problem with people calling me do not hear me but their voice in echo instead...
Bykal Os was the only rom where I found a switch about this problem in the LeMax2 section in the settings...
I still have the phone and still will to get those bugs fixed under new roms ^^
