Hello,
Since a few days or propably even more, i have some problems with battery life. The reason is the facebook for android app. I uave already turned off the automatic sync, so the app shouldnt start itself but here is the partial wakeup spareparts shows me after a day of very light use (i have sometimes closed the facebook process when i saw that my battery made jumps of 10% without touching it for an hour, hoping this would help):
Can somebody confirm this drainage or help me how to get rid of it?
Regards.

Ive seen it befoe. Clear data, unistall, reboot, and reistall. That fixed it fo me

Go to settings->application->manage application->all->facebook and tap "force stop".
I uninstalled Facebook for this exact reason.
Installed friendcaster and sync my pix and I get the exact same (if not better) user experience with far less battery wastage. Best thing I did for my handset (except root it ) the only downside is having two apps to replace one. But hell, it works!
I'll try friendcaster and syncmypix now. Hopefully these apps wont drain as much as facebook did
Thank you for your reply

unistall facebook for this reason. You can use friendcast
I am going to try taking Facebook of off my wife's phone and putting Friendcaster on. We have identical phones, roms, and kernels, yet her phone eats up way more battery than mine on standby (10% an hour). I put Watchdog lite on both of our phones and it popped up with a notification on her phone that said Facebook was using quite a bit of CPU. I even force stopped Facebook and it seems her phone is still draining battery.
Thanks for the suggestions in this thread.

What you did ? was less battery drain with friendcaster ?
facebook app on android is evil
old thread but I will contribute and confirm this was the case for me.
I didn't track the stats with any app, however recently the facebook app stopped syncing my contacts. After re-installing it one day, my battery life drained twice as fast even though it was idle for most of the day. I recently got rid of the facebook app completely and my battery life it miles better when idle, it is such a big difference and this facebook app is evil.
I have it periodically check for updates, however I have several other apps that check as well, but facebook itself seemed to be such a battery hog compared to other apps.
sorry to bump an old thread ...but i can confirm this too.
my galaxy S2 is on XWLP3 ..and it's rock solid.
except for the fact last weekend i was on holiday away from my office desk (and it's usb charger cord) and i noticed that my phone was rapidly draining, from 100% at 9am in the morn ..to completely dead by midday :/
thought my s2's battery had started to die ..but then come tuesday, my mate popped over and asked if i had noticed the FB app chewing up ton's of cpu time lately.
and sure enough ... that was it. he too was seeing his s2's drain aay to nothing ..and this is a guy who usually could make his stock s2 run two whole days on a single charge :/
so i think unless you back out of the app ... and stop it. it will kill yr battery in no time flat at all :/
Hi all,
first of all, I'm not a fan boy of any kind. I've been using so many android devices in the last years, I'm more of a tech fanboy then a <brand>fanboy.
Given that, I'm not soddisfied at all with S3: reading and viewing so many preview and review of this phone, I though it will last more than one day and that it would be fast as hell and lag free, at least, this is what everyone is saying in every damned review I saw/read.
I had in these passed 6 month: gaalxy s2, sensation, galaxy note, sensation xe, galacy nexus and right now htc one x and sgs3.
Well, the sgs3 is not so much better as everyone is saying, in particular, is not better at all of htc one x as every comparison review is stating.
What's up? Is that just me or what? My sgs3, with the same operator's sim is lasting less than htc one x and it's not fluid at all, at least while scrolling through homes!!! Of course, even the one x has some microlagging while scrolling through homes, but I though sgs3 would have no lag at all.
Does anyone else see it?
What it's really strange dealing with battery drain, is that the phone drains a lot even while in standby. The first voice in my battery stats is phone cellular stanby? How can it drain more than the screen???
Any "smart" answer is very appreciated, but please, avoid phrases like "you got a lemon, change it": what I'm saying it's not that it lasts me4 hours, I can get through the whole day with sgs3. But it does not last more than one day as everyone is stating! I mean: I get 17h unplugged with 3h screen on, it's on par with all the other phones I had...but not with Galaxy note or One X, they really last more than one day.
Thanks
Can you make a video of the lag so that we can see what you're experiencing? because I and most people have a smooth interface so maybe an app or your setup is causing problems?
Regarding the battery life, I got something like 22 hours with 5 hours screen-on (screenshot in battery life thread in general) and that was with pretty heavy usage - games, videos, web browsing. But you're right there's definitely high cell standby drain in the current firmware. Hopefully it can be fixed. Also, there's an led notification app, can't remember what it's called, that has a bug that drains the battery on the gs3. See the battery life thread in general for more info.

Hi, first of all, thanks for your answer. I'm not talking about huge lag, but the tipical microlag that you get while scrolling through homes in every android phone up to nowdays. I got some microlag while scrolling on HTC One X too.
If I can I will upload something tonite.
Your battery stats is great: 22h with 5h screen-on is a very good result. Do you use data connection always on? How many charge cycle did you perform?
Anyway, no, I'm not using light flow as my phone is still on stock rom, no mod yet!
TIA
Yeh wifi and 3g always on. here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26864539#post26864539
But even with the good results I'm getting, I don't think the phone would last 2 days because of the high cell standby drain. Its definitely a problem that needs to be fixed.
Regarding the lag. I get UI framerate drops in the following:
- Task switcher if there are a lot of apps open
- Browser bookmarks with thumbnails enabled
But they're the only areas that I've noticed have noticeable fps drops. Another annoying thing is for example the ABCDEF... list to the right of the contacts list, it seems to take a second or so to become responsive when you start dragging your finger down it, kinda spoils the experience.
Also, touchwiz launcher seems to need to reload when RAM gets used up.
So yeh it's not perfect but overall it's lightning fast and battery life is superb. Will be even better with software updates
I'm getting 1day 5 hours with 7 hours screen on and minimal standby drain.
The only lag I experience is 'sticky' vertical scrolling.
I did drop touchwiz in favor of go launcher but that was only because I found it too boring.
So far this phone has more than lived up to my expectations.

Do you mean you have no lag at all (neither a micro lag) when scrolling through homes?
Yes, noticed the launcher reload sometimes.
I don't know, maybe it's just me 'cause I had so many phones and in particular an HTC One X to compare it with? I don't find it any faster than one x but in web browser, nor it lasts more than one x! :/

Wondeful battery stats. Lucky you or unlucky me?
Do you use 3G data always on?
Just curious: which mobile phone do you have before buying the s3?!?!

No noticeable fps drops when swiping through the home screens no. I only have widgets on 4 pages though so will try adding more and see if that makes a difference.
I also owned a hox (tegra3) but returned it because of the bad battery life and laggy browsing (tried lots of 3rd party browsers too) and ui fps drops, overheating and screen flex.
I had a hd2 and had managed to get pretty good battery life on it as well.
I find a lot of little things add up.
I let very few apps sync.
I have black or dark backgrounds wherever possible.
I don't use haptic feedback.
I only use gsm unless I'm actually doing something that requires more speed but I do have data always on.
I switch WiFi and GPS off when not in use.
I use auto brightness.
I use betterbatterystats and battery monitor pro to keep an eye on things.
I avoid battery savings apps like the plague as they invariably increase battery drain.
Hope some of these help.

That's funny, I have a tegra 3 One X and I have none of the problem you had, or, at least:
- first one x rom was quite laggy, now it's much better, on par with s3, but always with some microlag
- no overheat but when playing heavy games like shadowgun, while s3 gets really hot even when just surfing
- very decent battery life, better than s3
- no screen flex
- no laggy browser until flash player is on demand
Oh well, maybe my One X is an S3 and the S3 is a One X!?!?
Joking apart, you can notice microlag when you scroll very fast through homes both on One X and on S3. I have 5 pages and widget on every page on both phones.

I have several app syncing (4 gmail account, 1 yahoo account and 1 exchange account, everyone along with its calendar part), twitter every 30 min, beautiful widget weather every 1h. GPS always on, 3g data always on. Auto brightness on all the time.
I see, using gsm only, no gps and few apps syncing really extend battery life, but I want to be able to fully use my phone. Moreover, both One X and S3 have the same apps, the same account synced and almost the same widgets (sense one apart), but One X last longer!

For those who are rooted, just go to /system/build.prop and change the dalvik size from 256m to 128m
Seems that it helps to solve this issue...

Do you only have 5 pages? Why have I got 7?
Anyway I placed widgets on all 7 pages and swiped really fast and have no lag or fps drops whatsoever. Maybe a particular widget is causing the problem?
I found using the live wallpapers caused my home screen to reload and caused lag. Since changing to a static wallpaper everything has been nice and quick with no re-drawing

Of course, I've already tried everything I could in order to lessen the lag: I'm using a static wallpaper, but micro lag is there. Maybe it's ust a matter of defying what microlag is: if I do scroll fast through home pages I have some microlag, I can see the animation is not completely fluid.
I have the following widgets: beautiful widget clock 4x1 (but I tried even with samsung standard plain digital clock), google search widget, music widget, stock ics calendar widget, plume (but I even tried with the static official twitter widget), photo gallery widget, weather pro widget.

One more thing: using SpyCPU I saw that sgs3 it's for 70% of its total standby time in deep sleep, while one x it's for 80%. Moreover, one x has more states with low CPU freq (100mhz, 70, 50) while sgs3 has 400mhz as lower freq used state, 300 and 200 are unused. :/
I guess that the Tegra companion core going so low in frequencies...
I got and activated my DNA yesterday. Phone got very hot after charging (from the wall outlet ). I activated the phone and played with it a little and left it alone. Now it seems cooler.
Anyone else experience heat issues with the phone ? I am trying to determine if I got a defective piece or if it is a characteristic of this phone. I had a htc phone before which did Not have this problem.
Also, is the phone's temp displayed under some setting options ?
Thanks,

Same with me. It gets much hotter during wireless charging though.
Sent from my Droid DNA. 1080p never looked so sweet
I noticed this as well, it gets very warm when charging (even more so with wireless charging), and it gets warm with even light use.
the HTC DROID DNA when activated and signed into Google email it will be a lot of data to get itself restored. I'm sure you guys at it Facebook or Google Plus that right there with Poul a lot of data to pull in contacts and contact information plus have settings. I got mine yesterday any got extremely high alarming hi but over tonight is cool down it's not fully no more data which is somewhere around 3 gigabytes last night this seems to be doing fine now
Check the ratings of the wakk outlet...many HTCs have prob of over heating...go power master shows temperature...

Now that I used the phone whole day today. I still see an issue of phone heating up quite a bit when being used for longer than say 15 to 20 mins. Even playing the amira game that is included for about 10 mins causes the phone to heat up quite a bit.
I am thinking I have a defective piece
Mini review:
Overall very responsive and fast. Battery life was not too bad, my usage scenario seemed to hold up fine. Not as good as iphone ofcourse but I can live with this.
gps was fine, chrome is smooth. Problem areas for me so far are
1. Heating up of the phone'
2. low light pictures show a lot of noise compared to gs3 and iphone 5
Thanks

you should install a battery widget that shows temp to be sure. My rezound still gets up to 115 or so on 4g, but doesn't effect the performance of the phone.

Mine does the same thing, but it's more like after 5 minutes of constant use it starts to get very warm.
I have a 16g black one from Google Play. and luckily it has no light bleed, minimal give on the back but the thing just get HOT even when I am using tasks like watching video or reading Chrome like now. I monitor the Cpu temp and it is around 40 > 50C when watching video surfing the web etc. However, when I am playing 3D games and stuff it get to about 60 > 75C. I dont know if it is normal or not and is this just a software or hardware issue because it get really hot on the top near the camera and both the screen and the metal rim get hot and burn my hands. I am considering RMA it if is cant be fix through a software update though. So is can it be fix through further update or rooting and new custom rom help ? And is a case gonna help reducing the heat to my hands ?
Also if I wait for the next batch can I wait and exchange for a better one then ?

You must be the lucky one the got the special unannounced option !
Only a select few have the New HTC "Hand warmer" edition made just for cooler climates like Antarctica.
Guys, can anyone help ?
This is normal. Any processor heats up with heavy gaming. The nexus 5 (snapdragon 800) can break the 70C mark in some cases. The nexus 7 (2012 with tegra) heats to 60C before throttling. The nexus 9 does try to dissepate the heat as quick as possible (lots of copper) and feels warmer.
Samsung devices are even worse, as they start throtteling even later.
The tegra k1 is a beast of a mobile processor (gpu and cpu).

Basically, this.
Hell, my N5 actually reboots during antutu due to thermal heat and heats up a lot during gaming.
Also, the reason it heats up when watching a video, do not forget a video has to be decoded to be displayed on the screen. Hardware decoding is less intensive but some still rely on software decoding wich will heat up and cpu in a matter of minutes. So even something as simple as watching a video can be CPU intensive depending on the decoder.
As for chrome, haven't had my N9 heat up during chrome sessions. Weird
Actually, the Nexus 9 manages as only Android device in my collection to stay completely cool in netflix HD streaming. 10% battery usage after 90 minutes. Compared to the other devices that use up at least 40% of battery during the same time.
One drawback is the 4:3 screen, which still makes my Note 10.1 beter for netflix (or movie viewing in general)... But the Nexus 9 is the only tablet I even consider using in portrait.
Same problem here, especially with Chrome. I've rooted my device, I don't know if that could have something to do with the heating...
Chrome Beta seems to have really helped with the heat issue on mine. I still get a lot of heat with gaming but that seems to be it.
The n9 was the first device I've ever had that heated up on me while browsing in chrome. This is NOT normal. I RMA'd it and picked up a shield instead... I don't know how these devices passed QA with all the issues they're having.
My personal opinion, is lollipop isn't quite ready and many apps aren't either. I'm waiting for all to be updated. The heating problem will, I'm sure, be taken care of.

I noticed the other night a considerable warming by the camera area and all I was doing was browsing the Internet. So as I was using Chrome I stopped, and browsed with FireFox, the tablet cooled completely down. Even watching YouTube it was barely warm.
I think something is wrong with Chrome and it's causing a loop somewhere in the code ramping up the CPU causing it to use a lot of power and that equals waste heat.
Playing games also has the same effect, it ramps up the CPU. The CPU is probably rated to continue working up to quite a high temperature before it needs to slow itself down to allow to cool, but when that heat causes the case to become very hot, it should back off the speed and so keep itself cool a long time before it reaches any of it's own temperature maximums, the trouble is keeping the case cool means the CPU can't maintain high performance for very long, so what's the point of a fast CPU.
Really tablets are not the best designed devices for 3D type game playing, or anything really that needs to use a lot of CPU power over and above the occasional burst.
I wouldn't be surprised once all the benchmarks have been done and published, if a software updated doesn't fix the heat problem by throttling the CPU quicker, and running it with realistic performance characteristics that being sandwiched in a very thing plastic case with no vents or active cooling requires.
Regards
Phil
I second the chrome beta helping. I disabled regular chrome in app manager and installed the chrome beta and have had a significant boost in battery life and decrease in heat while browsing.

Do you still notice any warmth using Chrome Beta? Or is it relatively cool? I have tried both Chrome Beta and Dolphin, and I am still noticing a good amount of heat. It's actually cooler watching Netflix than it is doing any sort of browsing whatsoever.

Saturday when I switched to the Chrome beta for the first time the heat was the same as before. Yesterday and today it has been noticeably cooler. I'd say the tablet gets just warm enough to notice a difference from it's ambient temperature when using chrome beta. I've gotten slightly better battery life but i'm still only hitting 4 hours screen on time when I hit 15% battery which is about a 1 hour increase from before using chrome beta.
I think chrome is still in need of major optimization because as you said when I use youtube or netflix I get much better thermal and battery performance. I did notice today that chrome seems to be performing extremely well on page loads and interactivity with javascript elements etc. I threw as many complicated sites as I could at it and made sure to go to sites I that hadn't been cached before on the tablet and it was super fast. It actually impressed me with it's performance which I wasn't expecting. Now it just needs to get more battery efficient and it will be perfect.

Thanks for the details. It's a shame that browsing is so poorly optimized. That's my main purpose for a tablet. I've just been on Dolphin the last hour and yep, heat is still pretty strong and my battery has gone down quite a bit. But before that, I was running Netflix for several hours just to test, and was up to about 5 hrs SOT. But I typically don't watch much Netflix, so that doesn't reflect real-world usage for me at all.
Yeah it's a little disappointing but the improvement I saw from chrome release and chrome beta is promising. My browsing experience today aside from heat and battery issues really made me like this device. The performance really blew me away. It felt more responsive than my i7 desktop.

I too find myself getting attached, despite these issues. It's a really smooth tablet experience :good:
Google hasn't had the best track record with their previous Pixels. They've all seemed to have at least one hardware issue. The Pixel 5s have overheating problems for example. Just wondering if anyone has run into any issues?
Haven't heard of any... but it's early in the game!
My 6 got hot during the initial setup, but once I turned off the 5G it cooled off a bit and I stayed on Wi-Fi.
Only a bit of warmth during initial setup, nothing that concerned me much.
The phone got very hot during charging.
Ok i just received my pixel 6 pro few hours ago and i am noticing heat issue around the back, starting from curve area, as i keep on using i can feel temperature in the back and screen as well. Really disappointed. I dont know what shall i do next

I am having the same exact issue. I went to the store and they told me that they will send the phone for assessment and will take a month. Ridiculous
Nope!
Video recording literally stopped after 7 min of 4k 60fps because the phone got too hot.
I got a message telling me to wait until the phone cools down. The screenshot of this message didn't even save..
My pixel 6 pro is getting hot during normal use too. Guess they need to update.
Yes it is getting extremely hot only by using insta, facebook, TikTok. No games installed. Left side of the phone starts getting warm then screen and back.
My phone was delivered on 26th Oct still have same issue. It looks like it'll be a case like snapdragon 810
My phone was overheating and battery drain a lot but since i put 4G on prefered nerwork, battery isn't draining anymore and don't heat no more.
Usefull or useless ?
My Pixel 6 Pro overheats recording 4K 60 and stops after 10-12min. Room temp 25c with no case.
I tried 4K 30 with the same results.
1080p 30 on the other hand can keep on going indefinitely I think. I got a message at 28min that the phone is getting hot, but it didn't stop the recording. Around 40min it reached thermal saturation and was fluctuating between 43c and 44.4c. I stopped it at 48:49min.
I think the new camera sensor overheats before the SoC and stops the recording.
my pixel 6 is overheating on a daily use. battery tab in setting telling me Instagram is sucking the battery, so I guess it's because of Instagram.
pixel 5 performed much better, to be honest. the battery also doesn't last that long. it's kinda disappointing. i thought it could be because my initial install somehow went wrong, so i am actually right now backing all up to do a factory reset. But after finding this thread, i seem not to be the only one, .. struggling with the idea to send it back.
do you think they will fix it? nobody else seems to complain. i mean no review ever said anything about overheating..

i will give this a try. if this will still drain my battery and overheating the phone I will go back to my pixel 5. glad I didn't sell it that fast
My pixel 6 is overheating on 4G/5G and battery drains fast. Browsing YT, video freeze and hangs. Same scenario, but connected to wireless network, getting +8h SOT, no freeze, no heat.
Just so everyone understands.
The P6 back cover plate is a heat sink.
The back plate is lined with copper to pull heat away from the electronics.
So with this in mind, the back plate can get hot while charging or heavy use.

Yeah, this has been surprising to me. So either Google is sending an altered version or reviewers don't use the phone that much and just make the video. Literally everyone I know who got the pixel 6/pro can feel the heat within few hours

I'm kinda glad to hear I'm not the only one, but it's pretty disappointing.
I now factory reset my phone without transferring old data from my old phone, just used backup'ed data from google one.
I need to test that out. definitely changing the preferred network type from 5G to LTE helped a bit. but battery performance still seems to be horrible bad in comparison to the Pixel 5.
it seems like you can not rely on youtube reviews for smartphones nowadays :/ looking at you Marques
I do run my phones with a case so sometimes hard to tell. Only time I experience warmth is running a couple mobile games, but they did this on my Pixel 5 as well. No extreme overheating or extreme battery draining experienced.
