I have a Huawei Mate 8 running EMUI 5.0 without root (no root developed yet), which is a Nougat-based skin, but I would guess my question is broadly applicable.
I use Android Auto via my in-dash system (rather than standalone). Android Auto, as many know, locks you out of your phone, presumably for safety reasons. Previously, you could just hit the multitask button on the phone and it would allow you to access your other apps. However, with Nougat, the multitask button is gone. This is a problem for me, since I use Hangouts Dialer, which is unsupported by Android Auto, for my calls.
There is still a way of getting around the lockout--if you swipe down the notifications shade, and somebody texted you on Hangouts, for example, you can open the notification and it takes you to Hangouts. Same with any other notification (e.g. you received an email, you can open the Gmail app, etc..) However, this relies on a notification being there organically.
To get to my question: is there a way to create a persistent notification--e.g. a permanent Hangouts notification that is not related to whether somebody messaged you or a permanent Gmail notification that is not tied to whether somebody emailed you something. I looked online and could not find anything on this. Any ideas?

So problem is I am not getting notifications on my Android devices for a lot of apps, I seem to get notifications for Email and Calendar and SMS but that's about it, nothing for / Facebook / Skype ect.
I seem to get notifications on Hangouts now for SMS but not for a standard Hangouts message.
At first I thought it may be because I had the webpage for that app open on my PC, so shut down the pages, still no notifications?
Getting quite annoying now as its the same on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (Both run 4.3).
A factory reset has been suggested and whilst it may fix things I would rather get to the bottom of the issue first so I know for future reference, also the N7 is pretty new and both lost notifications pretty much at the same time so perhaps a factory reset wont do anything.
Ad both devices had the same issue at the same time I wonder if its something on my account thats b0rked in some way?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Here is my pseudo-complicated situation: I have a gate sensor at the front of my property that communicates wirelessly to my automation system. The system can then notify me via text or email anytime my gate sensor is tripped. I would like for my phone to simply act as a doorbell by just making a sound anytime someone drives through my gate. So far I have accomplished this but unfortunately for my organized & partially OCD brain, my phone's notification bar is overloaded with messages that I have to clear several times per day. Basically, I would like for it to make a sound but not to show any icon or notification in the pull-down notifications menu.
I have tried several SMS apps (Handcent, GO SMS Pro, Chomp, Textra and stock) and have been unable to find a way to accomplish this. The closest thing I've found is to use the "privacy inbox" on several of these apps that allows me to place any messages from the automation system into a different inbox. I'm able to give it a different sound, different icon and different (or no) LED blink color. Unfortunately, this still leaves my notifications pull-down menu riddled with alerts from my gate sensor.
I don't know if there is an Android-based work-around or if anyone can recommend a decent SMS app that would give me this option. I have tried the same thing with email but not only do I run into the same problem, but the delay in the syncing of the email defeats the purpose because the person will usually already be at my door before I hear the tone. Because of this, I would like to stick with the SMS method.
There may also be another option that is outside the box that I have yet to consider.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

I love lightflow. I Customize the led to be a certain color for every different type of notification. It seems to be working fine and lists all the apps I have (Gmail, sms, ert.), but oddly enough, it doesn't show the regular stand alone exchange email program that's stock with this factory android rom (not Gmail). It's not even selectable and also doesn't appear in expanded "other apps." Not sure why this is, worked perfect on s4/s5.
Lolipop 5.0.2, latest OTA build OCF. Not rooted yet.
Just wanted to follow up on this because the Dev emailed me back. He is working on an update fix for this right now. He said Samsung completely redid the Exchange / Stock Mail app for the S6 line and he has to do some re-coding for it. Should work as before in the next update.
Light Flow is an awesome app though. Hope he includes ability to customize the "edge light" feature for notifications in the future.
Hi all,
I'm running a custom rom on a Huawei H1611 Ascent XT with only addition modification being Magisk V12 (I've tried posting this question in it's thread, but so far no luck https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-ascend-xt-nexusxt-b160-t3597766 ). The rom replaced lots of stock apps with google apps so maybe something is going on there.
Basically, gmail, hangouts, and groupme all fail to notify me of a new email or message, especially when the phone is off. As a test, if someone sends me a hangout message, I won't receive it until I open the hangouts app.
I've gone through all the notification settings, the battery optimization settings (ensure gmail, play services, hangouts all set to no battery optimize), and can't find ANYTHING to cause this issue. Also done multiple wipes and reflashes.
I feel like one time I read about a blocked wakelock causing an issue similar to this but I can't recall it. Does anyone know what could cause an issue like this and how can I figure out what is going on? Driving my crazy...
thanks!
Greetings,
I received a Lenovo Z5 two weeks ago as a replacement to my old phone and so far it has been fantastically awesome... or most of it. I noticed that after a week factory resetting the phone for my personal needs and setting up, no notifications aside from phone calls and SMS pops up either on lock screen or on the notification tab while on home screen or using other apps. So far I have managed to get Facebook, Gmail, Outlook, Messangers and a few social networking apps (Zalo - Vietnamese version of Messanger/WeChat) working (partially) with their notifications. However, apps such as Discord, Reddit, Youtube, and a couple entertainment apps do not pop their notifications - they did pop up one time but after that nothing shows up even after couple of reboots.
I am currently using ZUI 10.5; all notifications settings are turned on. No apps' notification permissions were denied/blacklisted. Any help is appreciated.
Hello (Xin chao)
Are you a Vietnamese ?
I got the same issues
I tried this and now it works okay
There is an system app called Security, open it up and add apps to the white list (top-right small button, looks like a padlock)
Apps in this list will not be turn off and will receive notification normally.
Also, I found another solution, but haven't tried it yet
Maybe you can if the above solution doesn't work
Maybe you can try to install "Disable Doze" app below to see any effect:
