Coming from IOS, noob questions - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I'm just enjoying the new open world of my very first Android device, after 8 years of iOs.
In certain ways- it really just very new and fresh and enjoyable-, and in other ways there are small annoyances which i hope i can find a solution with your help (or will just get used to them)
GENERAL, ANDROID, SEARCH
First of all,i'm a keyboard guy. Because of that, since IOS3, i wasn't using screens, but rather the search option, in my opinion there is really no better way to look for an app, but hit the first few letter, and choose from the narrowed list.
In pixel launcher, i was very happy with the search field, BUT, it's at the top on the screen and you have to touch it before keyboard comes up
I mean... COME ON. Seriously?
Phones are over 5.5" phone, this is really a pain in the butt.
I have a big hand, but it's impossible to reach with one hand.
Why not the keyboard comes up TOGETHER with the launcher?? So my question is:
Is there any app, which provide a search among installed apps, and can be reached easily with a shortcut (i mean like in IOS, -> swipe down, and type immediately | no hassle to tap the input field, then wait for the keyboard
NOTIFICATIONS
This one is very simple. Is there any way to make it like IOS?
I mean, in my opinion:
every notification should be one item (not grouped by programs)
when i click on one item, it opens the target itself, and not the program in which the target is (ie: it opens the received email, and not the email app)
Is there any hack / settings / app for all the above?
I would be just really very happy...
Thanks for reading me

Perhaps you didn't read my comment properly. Since you had asked if there was an app with features like apple or whatever I said download ios launcher from playstore. Anyways I am out of here. Perhaps some other person may help you out.

You can download the "nils lockscreen notifications" app from play store and espier launcher pro from google

Notification center customization

Hi, as we all know androids notification is quite great. Apple however took this concept and in my opinion improved it. Many developer also seemd to like it and there are many apps on cydia that offers some customization.
What I'm looking for is an app or any way really that lets you customize the drop down window.
I'd like to b able to change wallpaper, change color of text, add widgets and info for fast updates.
I have spent many hours googling but I cant find anything like this. Is there any way to do this or does someone have thw ability to make souch an app?
I hope
I'm pretty sure access to the android notification can not be done through an app. Its like a core system process that probably can't be edited in real time. You would have to embed some sort of "notification drop down settings" into the OS.
But he is right Apple should not be ahead of us in any way..
Has no one left with common computer skills?
There's many topics on this here one just for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363528
Google and search button's seems to be extra these days
Good stuff I'll have to try. I don't know about everyone else about the search function, but I like to use my phone as a PC so the search does not work all that great through the android browser. Then filtering through the results.on this smaller than PC screen will give anyone a headache. Maybe the xda app is better idk..

Hi guys,
Gone are the days of trying to switch back and forth, and wasted screen real estate. OverSkreen Browser can live on top of your screen, above any of your other applications and allow you to use your device’s other features while browsing ! Enjoy the desktop experience on your Android device ! View and interact with multiple instance at once. Device with OverSkreen enable true multi-tasking, utilizing the screen real estate to let users browse the internet.

hm...ok,
is it like a widget on my homescreen?
i would love to test it...but there is no demo...
and it costs 1,99...
greetings emil
Not a widget, it opens an actual window that sits on top of anything else open, and you can resize it to anything you want. So you can have youtube open on top of something and use both windows. I bought it, it's really good

hm...i seached for it before my reply...
if i click on your link...nothing opens, just a window saying google can´t find
maybe its not available in germany?
Not to take anything away from your hard work in developing the product, but doesn't Sony's ICS update next month render this useless for Sony tablet owners? The ICS update should include "mini apps" that will run on top of other programs for ease of use and multi-tasking.
If I'm completely wrong, my apologies, I claim ignorance.
Outstanding app, thank you for the heads-up cuts103!

[Q] Has anyone developed a user manual?

Hi All,
First off, I LOVE themer! I've been using Apex Launcher for some time on my HTC OneX (rooted, ARHD 31.3 ROM) and I've often gazed with longing at the home screens that some people have designed using UCCW, knowing that I'll necer have the time (or the artistic flair) to design my own. Now I can!
But there seems to be SO many customization options on Themer, and I'm a little overwhelmed. For instance, I'm using a theme with an RSS feed as a central tile, but I'd love to be able to change that to a 'favourite apps' tile. I'm sure the option is there, but I can't work it out. So, has anyone developed/is working on/knows of a Themer user guide?
I work on a cruise ship and internet access is slow and expensive (£10 for 167 minutes!) so I really don't have time to surf around looking for answers to design questions.
SO, does such a guide exist? If so, please point me in the right direction. If not, is anyone up to the challenge?:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The video is kind of like a user guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474039

Thanks miles_muso for your kind words! Yes the video vhngu930 provided is a good one, but for your problem I can help here. See the thing is that you'd first have to delete that RSS icon and then hold down on the homescreen > Themer Actions > Favorite Apps. Now you'll have a massive heart (we're working on adding icon packs soon), which you'll be able to edit. If you hold down on the icon > edit > tap the icon, you'll be able to replace it with an icon image. You can maybe try here for icon images which may help, they by Jeppe Foldager and the small whites and darks should help for now: https://www.copy.com/s/DxsaXLatvBGf/Share/Icons
Hope this helps!

Touch3D

I were just having a play with the new IPhone 6S Plus and find the new Touch3d, or Force Touch nice to use.
This is a link to demo the new feature.
If some developer can incorporate this into Android then I feel it would be a great addition.
What do others think?

I just hate people who post questions like these without researching. ForceTouch is a hardware feature, not a software one. If it was that easy there would have been two or three apps. General rule of thumb: RESEARCH BEFORE POST.
I'm just spit balling here. Yes, it is hardware feature but surely it can be integrated into say a launcher? If written into the Launcher code a time lapse for apps. Say tap to open an app, longer press for app options, even longer press or double tap to uninstall the app. It's just a rough idea but that is software written. If I had the knowledge then I'd do it myself, hence posting this thread.....
Something similar to Action Launcher but Touch3D features.
This is as close as your gonna get without it being made purposefully to support that feature:

Yes, you have to be rooted.

4.x Jelly Bean keyboard

I'm wondering if anyone still has the original JellyBean keyboard knocking around. I'm not looking for a knockoff, or a keyboard based on the JellyBean keyboard, but the original keyboard. There used to be APK packages all over the place, but I haven't seen them in a long while and I find it incredibly difficult to use a keyboard that has no key boundaries.
If anyone out there still has the old APK somewhere, I'd very much appreciate a copy. I've spent the past two or three hours trawling old threads, but links are either dead or point elsewhere these days.
Whoa, 4.1 keyboard? First why? I'm intrigued by this. I respect the OG look and feel. I did some looking around and I have ran into the same problem as you. Let me suggest a few things if you have the free time.
1. Try grabbing it from one of those old roms that are based on 4.1/4.2.
2. Finding a old firmware from 4.1/4.2 again doing the same as the first.
That is my best bet for you. I do not see as this would be helpful though, as it probably wouldn't be compatible with the device you are running(I'm assuming at least 5.1 above.) I will do some more looking around for you and get back with ya.
Best of luck.

It's the actual design of the keyboard. I need visible borders around keys because my hand-eye coordination is questionable at best, and the keyboards from android 5 and up got rid of individual buttons altogether.
Ripping it from firmware is my next option, but I'm not entirely convinced I can actually pull an installable APK from it. I'm having trouble with flashing on my phone, it's a bit hit & miss. I'll give it a shot anyway.

You can always download Gboard for the boarders, I believe it has an option for borders

Yes Google keyboard is the best and it has an option of separate keys. Get it on play store. No need to get android 4.1 keyboard. You can also try Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard.
Well, after occasionally looking, I finally found what I believe to be as close to the original keyboard as I will ever find. Google Keyboard was awful, by the way.
WARNING
I have not scanned the attached apk. I have merely included it for your convenience. I do not know whether or not the permission request for "phone" was legitimate. I did not grant this permission. If you use this keyboard, you do so at your own risk. Remember, this is years-old and may be vulnerable.
