Can't get into 7.1xx ROMs - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have been using Nexys Experience ROM and I am in love with it. However, recently I wanted to try a 7.1 ROM. I am officially bootloader unlocked and currently using twrp-3.0.M4-0
The problem I am facing, no matter how I try, I cannot boot any 7.1 ROM. I have tried RR, CM14.1 and their respective firmware but after flashing the ROMs never boot and stuck on bootlogo.
Possible Combinations I tried:
1) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware
2) Flashed CM14.1 ROM + Gapps
Result: Stuck on Bootlogo animation
1) Flashed CM14.1 ROM + Gapps
2) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware
Result: Stuck on Bootlogo animation
1) Flashed RR ROM + Gapps
2) Flashed CM14.1 Firmware
Result: Stuck on Bootlogo animation
I use f2fs on /data and /cache
Any probable solution?

Is there any errors occurred during flashing process?

Nevermind, I reformatted /data and /cache using ext4 again and flashed EU Rom. Seems to be working. I tried EU rom before but it wasn't working because of f2fs.
Will try any 14.1 rom soon.

f2fs is good but as I will need to go back & forth MIUi & CM/AOSP I guess it's better to stay on EXT4 for now. Until MIUI adds f2fs support.

@saiftheboss7
Hows nexus rom? Is it better then miui in terms of performance and stability? And dual sims are working on nexus experience rom?
I am currently on latest Miui 8 MM 6.12.8 (Epic Rom).. I have ZCX twrp installed and bootloader unlocked officially, can you guide where to start so that I can go back and forth Miui Cm/AOSP, I mean is there anything which need to be backed up before moving to nexus rom so that I can easily come back to Miui 8 MM..

IMO Nexus Experience is the most stable ROM I used. And the dev doesn't push any useless updates. In my usage, it was so much better than miui. I didn't try dual sim because I have only single sim. But should work without any trouble.
If you are official unlocked first flash the twrp recovery from TheStrix's CM thread. After twrp you can install any MIUI from Xiaomi Eu via the twrp recovery. They update the rom when there is a new stable release. Xiaomi eu roms are better than global rom because it does not have unnecessary softwares and also the china based rom which is more stable and optimized. I also used a debloating script that stripped away all junks of MIUI.
If you want to switch from miui, flash any custom rom using the same procedure. However, you should always do a wipe (factory reset) before flashing any rom.

Thank you very much for guidance, I need both of my sims to work so its my main concern, If somebody is using dual sims on NX experience rom 10.4 kindly let me know so that I can flash it as well.
There is twrp-3.0.M4-0 recovery recommended by TheStrix on his CM thread, is this the one?
If we check nexus experience rom's page, they have recommended to use alka recovery only, kindly check below:
http://en.miui.com/thread-357205-1-1.html
And which version of Radon Kernel you are using? Is it 3.2?
Best Regards,

NX Experience is a very nice and smooth rom I have just installed it and I'm loving it.
Kindly let me know how to enable screenshot button in notification panel? I can't find it anywhere.. The only thing which I am missing right now coming from Miui, is three fingers swipe down to take screenshot, is there any alternative?
Did you install Xposed Framework? If yes then which version and from where did you download it..
Thanks & Best Regards,

Not able to flash any ROM - I'm desperate

I have a Redmi Note 2. When I try to falsh any ROM the phone only shows black and white stripes on the screen. No MI logo, nothing.
I tried plenty of different ROMs with MIUI 7, I tried official update over the update-app, recovery ROM install and fast boot flashing. Everytime the same result. The flash process itself every time works fine, but after the reboot the phone is broken.
Only with one fast boot ROM (hermes_global_images_V7.1.1.0.LHMMICK_20151221.0000.11_5.0_global) I can unbrick the phone afterwards (for luck).
The reason why I try to use an other ROM is, that I want to have a german ROM.
Any ideas? Do I have a hardware problem?
Let us rewind to the very first ROM that you tried to flash. Which ROM is it? That may provide clues (e.g., it flashed the "wrong" preloader/lk, etc).
hm.. unfortunately, I do not know ..

A salutary lesson to not flash ROMs that you don't have records of. This means that it is impossible to help you identify what exactly went wrong.
If all else fails, then you can try the "full install" download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67164284&postcount=569
Perhaps installing it might help recover your device - and perhaps not. I don't think it can make things any worse - but use at your own peril.
I did a full install with that ROM using TWRP. Same effect.
Seems to me that you either have a hardware problem, or that you might have installed a ROM that locked your bootloader.
If hermes_global_images_V7.1.1.0.LHMMICK_20151221.00 00.11_5.0_global still works, then you clearly don't have a hardware problem. You might want to stick with it. Perhaps it is the one that instaled a locked bootloader?

Been using redmi note 2 prime and done many flashing on official rom, global dev rom to cn dev rom without problems.
1) enabled development option and ticked the usb debugging.
2) which rom you are using? Xiaomi.eu or miui offiial? If you were using xiaomi.eu rom then you better go there and ask for help because there changed the twrp when you flashed their rom even you already had twrp.
3) If official rom and your phone was not fake. Then goto miui forum or xda to seek for help. Which twrp were you using? I am using twrp 3003 from here: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=224679&extra=pag and never failed me on flashing rom, backup and restore.
4) if you are using german language, the offical miui global dev rom will suit you. It have multi languages including german.
5) my redmi note 2 prime was on global dev rom and I had flashed my son's redmi 2 on miui official global dev rom for him using in Germany. My redmi note 3 pro was officially unlocked and i was using the miui8 cn dev rom rooted by superSU. Also you can downloaded the official rom from here: http://en.miui.com/

I stand corrected - but I believe I have read on this forum that some recent ROM releases lock the bootloader.
I was on latest official miui 7 global dev rom rom. The bootloader was not locked. Only there disabled the root function on cn dev rom.

Great news. So these reports have (and will) not come to RN2? :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/xiaomi-locks-bootloader-update-6-1-14-t3294967
Only for those new devices like mi 5, redmi note 3, redmi 3 etc. I personally used redmi note 2 prime with global dev rom 6.5.27. But my redmi note 3 pro was officially unlocked, used latest cn dev rom, alka twrp and rooted by superSU. Latest rom cn 6.6.18(miui 8).

Jumping on MIUI 8 MM

Hello,
I've always been in Lollipop builds of MIUI, but since there's MM based MIUI 8 now I want to jump on that. previously, I'd do things as follows,
1. Flash MIUI fastboot ROM.
2. If bootloader was locked unlock it using MiUnlock program.
3. Flash TWRP.
4. Boot TWRP.
5. Flash universal boot img patcher.
6. Flash SU.
7. Flash Xposed.
8. Boot the ROM for the first time.
The way I describe above works flawlessly with LL MIUI ROMs, but since I want to jump on the MM ones, I was wondering if the same could be done with the MM based ROM or if I need to change something. Previously on the leaked MM Rom I got problems with UBP and the rom became finicky to boot. It would boot once but a reboot gave bootloop.
Any kind user if you have any advice on having MM with root and xposed please share your knowledge on how I need to go about doing that.
Thanks in advance.
What rom did you have, global dev rom or stable rom? My case at first was on global dev rom(LL) and received an ota update, then I copied it to external sd card, flashed by alka twrp the rom, superSU and xposed-v86-sdk23-arm64-MIUI-edition-by-SolarWarez-20160710.zip in one single flashed with success.

Previously I had to flash UBP to keep the recovery intact. Is that not necessary anymore? it was 6.7.21 leaked MARSHMALLOW. LL works fine.

Cannot Boot Custom ROMs Anymore. Just Bootloops

Been using the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (Kenzo) for a long time now and since the ROM was outdated, I decided to update it this past weekend. However for whatever reason, something broke and I've been getting bootloops. Since then, this is what I did and it still doesn't work.
Used MiFlash to fastboot flash MIUI v8.5.1.0 Global Stable, and then OTA updated to v8.5.2.0.
Test the phone to make sure all functions work properly.
Immediately officially unlocked the bootloader using Mi Unlock.
Fastboot flashed TWRP 3.1.1.0.
Made EFS and ROM backups as usual.
Clean flashed Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 (Radon kernel) with /data and /cache as F2FS.
Flashed Open Gapps 6.0 ARM64 Mini.
Right now, I'm back to running stock MIUI v8.5.1.0, which was flashed using MiFlash. Then I did the OTA update to MIUI v8.5.2.0. May someone please guide me or correct the above steps in order to install the linked Resurrection Remix ROM? Or maybe a Nougat ROM?

Flash LOS 13 which is far stable than the RR 5.7.4. You should've flashed another rom before moving back to MIUI. The process you followed is correct but you also need to flash the compatible firmware like for RR you need CM13 firmare and for LOS you'll the recommended firmware posted in the thread itself.
I went through some ROM threads and one recommended flashing MIUI8 Global DEVELOPER and not Global STABLE. Am I supposed to be using MIUI 8 Global DEVELOPER as the starting point?

The Resurrection Remix build I linked is based off of LineageOS 13 so it should be stable.
So you're saying I missed flashing a firmware? I see some ROMs recommend flashing the firmware, while others don't. Which is the proper firmware to flash if the ROM thread doesn't state which firmware to use?

The one on this thread. Second post.
well seems to be a new problem...
so what must be done... i will suggest to get latest miui fastboot rom from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/links-direct-official-download-links-t3449488
flash it via mi flash tool (im running 64 bit os ,so using mi flash beta ) in edl mode by wiping full things including storage..
if your boot loader is unlocked official way it must be unlocked now also if not i guess you know how to unlock it officially.
then use official twrp from
www.twrp.me
i faced this issue once and did the exact steps above and now no problem..
by the way i tried things like unplugging battery from the board... lol... read in miui forum...
I've been having very similar issues (updated official firmware in a non officially unlocked bootloader).
It's been hell but I've managed to get los14.1 installed. Now my issue lies with constant gapps crashes. I'm thinking of just giving up and getting miui.

I've tried yesterdays version. Play store wouldn't even open. Dirty flashed 0625 play store opens but a lot of apps crash, everything works fine with 0303.
I'm flashing miui and I'm going to try the official bootloader unlock, but this have been a couple of strange days.

dirty flashing isn't a solution ... theres changes in trees of the rom and kernel..
anyway head back to miui unlocl officially and when coming back to custom rom do wipe everything and give it a shot..probably the crash may be due to over written or exiating files...
happy flashing

I should mention I clean flashed the ROMs. Updated OP.
Ok trying it again right now and so far, this is what I did:
Used MiFlash to fastboot flash MIUI v7.7.6 Global DEV.
Test the phone to make sure all functions work properly.
Tried to unlock bootloader using Mi Unlock but it said bootloader is already unlocked.
Boot into MIUI again.
Fastboot flashed TWRP 3.1.1.0.
No boot into MIUI.
Flash Kenzo firmware 8.2.4.0 in TWRP
Clean flash LineageOS 13 and Open Gapps 6.0 ARM64 Mini with /data and /cache in EXT4
IT WORKS!
I guess now I'll try Resurrection Remix.

I would not recommend flashing miui through twrp as many have reported that it bricks the device or maybe they are just doing something wrong
Twrp is best for custom roms

You don't have to flash any vendor zip if you're going to flash MIUI 10. If you wish to flash MIUI 10 for example from en.miui.com the global MIUI 10 then you can just flash the MIUI zip following magisk if you wish to have root then just reboot. You will have to flash the vendor zip if you wish to flash custom rom as custom rom don't have vendor firmware in it. Flash vendor first then the custom rom zip following with gapps and mod optional.
And yeah, if you flash custom rom and then flash MIUI back you might get region locked where you cant change the region, but I've solved that by flashing cust.img from global image zip using fastboot, this is because the cust partition isn't installed properly. It's the best to flash using Mi Flash, but it will encrypt you device. Do it on your own risk, im just simply sharing from my experience and im not responsible if your device change to iOS.

Yes you can flash any Miui Rom via TWRP Download The Flashble Zip Not the Fastboot One.
But When You will flash Stock MiUi 10 Rom Via TWRP You will Loose All Of Your Data.
You Need to Flash DFE After Flashing Stock One.
If You want To Flash Custom Rom
Flash Vendor
Flash Rom and Gapps
If You Want To Root Flash Magisk.
And Then Any Custom Kernel.
Reboot to System.

Xiaomi EU V11 Rom updated to android 10

xiaomi eu Based on China Stable rom Adnroid 10
V11 11.0.1.0
Download from here
install from twrp recovery
Yeap, nice one, just dirty flashed (Clear cache & dalvik 1st) from mi.eu stable 11.0.8.0 via OrangeFox.
Everything works great so far, no issue, better then mi.eu stable v11.0.8.0 Android Pie.
One note: since the ROM upgrades Android version from 9 to 10, the data encryption changes (if you enable it), so the next time you boot into recovery after upgrade you won't be able to decrypt data to flash new stuff (as I tried to do with Magisk). Normally the recovery displays a password prompt for decryption but in my case they didn't. My solution is to flash the latest TWRP from the official website. Not sure if anyone would encounter this problem, so I'll just throw it out there.

You need to upgrade your TWRP Recovery.
I was using OrangeFox R10.1_3 when I upgraded to mi.eu Android 10, it works great with Android 10 encryption, I can see files after I enter my lockscreen pattern and flash files (I only flashed hosts file, I don't use Magisk).
