Hi all, like the title says I'm having trouble figuring out how (or if it's even possible) to make the browser prompt me to choose "Play Online" or "Download" after clicking a video link like it used to on Marshmallow... Assuming I want to play browser videos using MX Player instead of ****ty in-browser HTML5 players, is there anyway I can make this happen on Nougat without having to copy paste the link to MX Player manually?
I use UC and Dolphin Browser, Flash On-Demand + JavaScript On. For MX Player I'm using latest version with the setting to Play Media Links checked. All the same apps+settings I had on marshmallow.
Is this an android nougat issue, a Rom or app issue?? If anyone knows how to disable the built-in dolphin video player that'd be useful info too. Just don't understand why it doesn't work on Nougat, please help a bruva out with a fix or workaround thanks!

Dont know that my title is sufficiently clear, same problem could be mentioned here in Q&A, but i dont know how to search that topic, through which sentence or words.
Anyway, when i am trying to watch a movie in my adroid device (Xperia Sola), sometimes it directly opens it with flash player withing the browser (Btw i am using stock) and sometimes it wants me to open with some apps, like Movies, Quickpic and MX Player. Since i am able to play that video with flash player in my computer, i want that video to be played by flash player, not by some apps.
Actually MX Player is better in watching movies, but sometimes it cant grab the movie, but flash player makes no problem like that.
PS: I unchecked "Play HTTP Links" in MX Player, but there is no such option in stock Movies app and Quickpic.
I would be appreciated for your all possible solutions.
Its may be because sometimes the files to be played is flv so it directly plays in flash player sometimes its different like mp4 etc than browser asks you to choose an app...
And if you want than you can choose flash player as default player than it will play in flash player automatically
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
Then, where is that option?

When ever you try to play a video this type of pop up will appear..
So what you have to do is just tick in the box use by default for this action.. Then select whatever player you want to play default..

Since there is no option to play with Flash Player, i cant shoose this.
Experts,
I am using the Alcatel OT-918d (stock rom, root access enabled) and while playing videos in the browser, I do not get an action prompt to choose from the available video players and browser plays the video using "default video player".
The so called "default video player" has been uninstalled though. Have cleared cache, clear defaults, clear data for the browser but still do not get a prompt to choose a video player while playing videos from the browser.
Also installed the "Default App Manager" to check for the default video player. However, it indicates no defaults to play any videos (either from file or streaming videos).
(If I play a stored video from phone or SD card, I do get the prompt to choose a video player. But do not get a prompt if playing any video in the browser.)
Pleas help me to solve this.
Any suggestions to solve this problem...?
That must be the flash content playing. The browser itself plays flash content if enabled.

Thank you so much for your reply. It was the flash player indeed... This is what I tried:
Dolphin browser > Disable the Flash Player > Make 'Desktop' as the User Agent and then access m.youtube.com and now any video will be played using the video player that I have installed... (but the video quality was pathetic even for HD videos probably coz of wrong combination of user agent and the URL used..?)
Next did the following - Dolphin browser > Disable the Flash Player > Make 'Android' as the User Agent and then access m.youtube.com and now any video that is played is using the default media player of the android (or I would say "flash player" of the browser...But the quality of the same video is quite good and played in HD too...Just failing to understand even though the Flash Player is disabled, the video was still played...?).
Any suggestions as to how we can play those "flash based" HD quality videos of m.youtube.com (and other sites) in custom media player like doubleTwist or something else..?
I believe u cant play YouTube videos on custom player. And y not try YouTube official app?

Thank you so much for your confirmation. Yes, the YouTube official app is fantastic and works very good. I was trying to play the online videos (even if they are flash based) with a custom media player like doubleTwist so that the functionality of AirSync offered by doubleTwist can be utilized efficiently.
So I have MX Video player installed and where I could I set it as the default video app player. However when in the standard browser or even in Chrome browser when clicking a video it still plays using the native video player on the GS4. I downloaded a tool to tell me what all of my defaults are and I cannot find anything else so I'm lost at the moment. Is there a way to override the "built-in" video player when in a browser so I can use MX instead? I am unrooted, stock on the Verizon GS4 16GB and have the ME7 update installed via Kies. TIA for any help.
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Just took the DMI1 update and still I cannot get MX to be the default video player for some websites. Anyone know a way to disable the built-in video player that launches by default? What's the app's name and location and can I disable it? Thanks.
Settings, More, Apps, All, find Video Player. In the Video Player App Info page scroll down and tap Clear Defaults.
Now you'll be prompted next time you open a video asking which player to use.

Yeah, I checked that a long time ago. Both Video and Video Player, the purple circle with white triangle are not showing as default - they are both greyed out. That's what is so strange about this. Can't put my finger on it.
I went to apps, show all apps incl. system and searched for 'player' then I'd found some unknown player (can't recall its name); I'd uninstalled it and videos played well back again from Telegram. Weird.
Hey guys,
my question is How to change default video player. I really need to change it beacuse that video player cant open all of the formats, so I can't open snapchat videos. Basically i just want to make snapchat videos work on my phone. Every time when i want to open snapchat videos i get : 'Can't play this video'. So i thought it's video player problem, but even if i got MX Player installed (or other vid players, i tried many of them) i can't open videos on snapchat. Maybe if I could change default video player or disable that LG video player snapchat would use MX Player instead.
Try Default App Manager Lite application. It should help you setting the default app used per file type.
It seems like I removed it somehow and I had to download VLC a an alternative player. The thing is that now I cannot record slow mo videos since it automatically opens VLC and I cannot edit or save the videos as before because VLC doesn't support this feature. Does anyone have the apk of the native video player so that I can install it again.
Thanks!
