Anyone in the US with an unlocked Moto Z receive Nougat OTA yet?

Non here and i'm using a T-mobile sim.
I'm hoping we get it by the end of the year. I'd hate for it to be something where vzw gets x amount of time exclusivity with updates on the phone.
I purchased the phone on Monday and was quite disturbed to see that the most up to date software is 6.0.1 with July security. That's absurd.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Software channel: retus. Still on 6.0.1 with July security patch
I'm fairly disappointed as well, it's ridiculous how long we've been waiting for nougat. I want to use my daydream view. Not a strong start for this phone's future. If it isn't updated by the return period I'm trading this out for a Pixel.

Damn, I wish Google could have released another Nexus 6P. I loved that thing, but it wasn't daydream compatible. Crap. I really like this phone, but the update situation is just crushing it for me.

I purchased mine for Christmas. I was sure the Nougat update was already available. I setup the device and checked for updates, just to find out "Your device's software is up to date"... Oh well.

I really have no desire to take the official OTA since it updates the bootloader making it impossible to flash custom ROMs. I'm running Nougat with the original bootloader which gives me more options. Of course it required me to unlock the bootloader...

Social media. Probably twitter, but you'll probably get the stock response of "we're working on it". I've seen a few people ask about it in the Motorola forums.
I guess I just want to know what's taking so long.
Seems like they stopped rolling out Nougat... Possible due to fixing something first. Newly bought units here in Sweden do not get the update either (while mine got it a while back)

Same issue here. No sign of update.
Upon contacting Moto support they said since I am in Pakistan my phone will not update where the update is available for US. Lol.
Bought unlocked Moto Z XT1650-03 from Amazon.
Still on the July 2016 firmware 6.0.1.
Manually trying to update says 'unable to mount external and internal storage' in stock recovery.
I thought I was the only one left behind.

no update even if u r in the us
no matter where u are it's the model that gets the updates
though it may take an extra day or two as there is

If there were another option then I would, but there really isn't any phone quite like the Moto Z. I wanted a phone for daydream and this one seemed like the best option, and I've already sold my Nexus... Eh, if they mistreat me then I won't buy the next Moto Z, I'll get a Google phone. If Google gets their **** together by then. That damn Pixel, dear god.

It's like T-Mobile Jump, all the major carriers are doing it. It lets you upgrade every six months by letting you make monthly payments on a device.

Where is your source for this confirmation? Everywhere I've read says that Aug. 1st is only a rumored date because of the road map leak which has been, for the most part, false so far. Do you have updated official news from Verizon I don't know about?

If you're asking about Edge, you keep it. What Verizon will do is they'll split the retail price of the phone into 12 payments, then you make a payment each month until it's paid off, then the phone is yours. No need to renew your contract or trade in your phone.
But enough about Edge, this isn't the place to discuss that

Sorry if this is asking too many questions -but I'm a woman and need details- did those employees state that the phone would hit shelves that day or just be ready for pre-order? No, you have to hand it in... It's not really a consumer friendly thing. Just makes it look like it. T-Mobile are the only ones doing it right. With Edge you pay installments for you device and still have to pay the Verizon plan pricing setup to be profitable when handing out subsidized phones.
But back to topic, our phones are not that inferior to the HTC One. Actually only the CPU is older. Barely. Other then the sexy aluminium body and smaller screen, the phones are very similar. Well I guess the One has an IR blaster too.
I really want a One. I love my DNA but the One is just so sexy.

Actually got it on a whim when I bricked my HTC one... Well maybe bricked it's stuck in the stock recovery with no android version installed.. Don't ask lol..
Anyway back to the point.. I got an email today from a friend telling me the g2 is end of life?? Being replaced with s4 or s4 mini... I really would hope this isn't the end of the g2... I know the g3 is coming out and everything else but man this is to quick isn't it? I just got this phone lol... Does anyone know if this is bad or not? I've never really paid attention but the only phone I know was EOL while had it was the Motorola photon and they stopped updating it soon after... I know damn well this phone can handle any android they throw at it so what is that about??

Don't worry about it. LG rarely updates a phone more than once or twice anyway. The devs at XDA will take care of us as long as they still use it. Like you said, it's got more than enough horsepower to last a while. Probably the only real killer will be when everyone goes to x64 operating systems.

This is indeed the phone to beat. Thank you very much for the information you have.
I read that a carrier in Canada has put an "end of life" on the g2, and they do list s4 as an alternative. It's also known that the g3 is in the works and will be out this summer. 4.4.2 may be the last official android version for the g2.
However! There is a huge development community behind the g2, so it's likely that versions will continue well into the future, the g3 ROM will likely be ported to the g2. When the g2 does stop receiving official updates, I would root and be happy with what the devs here can cook up

Why get rid of this phone? This phone is arguably a step above the Nexus line so far. We have plenty of AOSP options to choose from and now that we have official Kit Kat we will surely have plenty of new/more stable options.

All this means is that LG is going to stop producing the phone in favor of a newer model. Samsung makes their phones for years beyond their relevant lifespan and you can still find ancient Galaxy phones like the S2 on the shelves. The S3 is still the absolute go-to phone for any free contract, prepaid or non-contract deals. LG is a much smaller manufacturer and doesn't have the deals and agreements like Samsung does to pimp out their phones.
The Galaxy S4 is not going anywhere, it's going to stick around just as long as any of the Galaxy S flagships if not longer. The LG G2 will just be EoL as far as the carrier is concerned. So if you're a Bell customer, I'd recommend to get familiar with modifying your phone because Bell is likely not to push you any future updates.

Not sure what you mean by deals because the G2 was free much sooner than the S3. The OG and G2 both saw rapid price drops.

When I got my G2, the S3 was being peddled by every single carrier and given out like candy. You are/were able to pick up the S3 on almost any shelf as a prepaid device and if you signed into any deal that had free phones you got a S3. Samsung is still most likely making the S3, "emerging markets"(I assume) and every prepaid company basically relies on that phone. LG has none of those deals really and you'll never find a G2 in a plastic package hanging on a shelf at Walmart. Within 6 months, you'll most likely see the S4 in those packages.
This just says that LG is going to stop production of the G2 most likely because the G3 is coming out. LG doesn't have the market or ability to continue to sell their old flagship phone for years on end. They probably didn't have a huge profit margin on it since they can't sell and pump out millions upon millions of the phone. Thus since sales are tapering off and people are going for the new M8/S5 they're focusing on moving forward.
This could also just simply mean Bell is going to stop selling it since it's not selling well for them.

It's probably only LG's fault, not the carriers. If LG stopped making the G2 and started the G3 (due to limited manufacturing capacity), the carriers can't get any more stock so they list it as End Of Life. Meanwhile, the S4 is still being manufactured (even the S3 4G is still manufactured) so that's why they list it as alternative.

Can you buy a Nexus 4 today, and Google i think has 18 month update policy, so next version might be the last for Nexus 4 too. Fact is in today's tech world, you have a new flagship every 6 months, that does not necessarily mean you have to upgrade every 6 months.
Even if 4.5 is launched by end of this year, 95% of apps will still work on 4.4 and our phone is more then capable to handle them. So sit back and enjoy mate, until you wanna get suck in number wars and not care about the experience
I wouldn't let the EOL tag scare anybody away from this beast of a phone. Thanks to the awesome XDA forums, rooting, and a new battery; I made my old Droid Eris last for 2+ years and still going strong before getting a different phone. And the Droid Eris was EOL like 3 hours after I bought it haha

Nope. The last Android for G2 will be in 2015. Look for Optimus G Pro, it is year old and it got Kitkat 2nd update in Korea. So stop FUD
As the title suggests, OnePlus have announced that they wont ship to US or Canada for 3 weeks after they start in Europe due to "Production Schedules", Yet Europe shipments are unaffected? This makes no sense.
So in reality it will be a minimum of a Month before its even shipped if you got an invite today!

At this point, it'd be best to just wait to see what Google does with their upcoming Nexus devices.
If Huawei's influence on the phone is large, then we can expect the same sort of things we got with the OP2, but with the added benefit of Android M and NFC - possibly external storage too. LG might make a great phone too, who knows! At this point, OnePlus' invite system and delay is a farce.
I was genuinely interested but I just can't get over the horrible way they go about selling their phones. I'd rather wait the month or two to see what Google/LG/Huawei do with the nexus and go that route, although we're likely to see a shortage of nexus's as usual.
Agree. Let's wait and see the nexus 5.

Moto X is quite cool! Definitely being pushed in that direction in to buying one that is
2 reasons I won't get this device:
- They play too much, this invite system sucks and it is super hard to buy this phone unless you buy it from someone else costing +$300.
- I rather get a Nexus device, I will wait til October. Plus, I'm very interested in seeing how Android Pay will work, so I will need that NFC the OPT does not have.
When on earth are they going to start sending these to the US??? I don't think I'm getting one anymore, but I'm just curious at this point.

Same here... Now it's just a waiting game.... They weren't so delayed on taking my $$ that's for sure!!! SMH
I am looking at switching from Verizon to T-Mobile or Sprint. Should this phone be my first choice?

It's currently my first choice but I too am waiting to see what HTC trots out this go around. Sony sensor rumors might mean that they actually have managed to put a good camera into their flagship phone.
Loved my M7, I'm hoping for another handset like that one.

The GF has had hers for 48 hours now and I've gotten a chance to put it through it's paces, it's an excellent phone, don't think you would be disappointed. But "best" and "1rst choice" are all pretty subjective as each user has his/her own needs, usage patterns, and desires. Crowning one phone in a carriers lineup is problematic.

I've been an HTC guy since the Thunderbolt. All of my HTC phones were unlocked, rooted and s-off'd. I've had the Thunderbolt, Rezound, One M7 and One M8. I got tired of waiting for HTC to do something different. The M10 doesn't look like it is going to be much of a departure from previous models. I am very happy with my LG G5 so far. I hope someone finds a way to root it. I think the days of completely unlocked phones are going away.

I also have to decide which carrier will be better while saving me some money over Verizon.

I was also torn between getting the G5 or waiting for the HTC 10. I'm on Sprint, and Best Buy is selling the G5 for $99.99 with a new contract renewal, but I found out that that sale price ends on the 9th. I was originally going to wait for HTC's announcement to decide what to buy, but I didn't want to miss the sale price in case I ended up choosing the G5 anyways. So I just ordered the G5 from Best Buy for $99.99 and will take advantage of their 14-day return policy if after the 12th I decide to go with the HTC 10.
Your first choices should likely be between the g5 and s7.

I still need to decide on the service, but that seems like a plan.

Why in that order? From the looks of your it's saying stay away from the G5.
I just can't believe you put the 6p last, especially after the blackberry. Why?

don't really matter which order i put it in. becuase your opinion is different then mine.
or should I say they all good phone's which ever you pick. then we don't fight over a phone.
No worries, just curious.. You did specifically put the overall highest rated android phone at the bottom of the list and I was hoping for some insight.
I'm currently have the G5 and V10 tied for first place, G4 in second, and nothing after that... Because if it doesn't have a removable battery and Android it isn't a good deal in the long term (in my opinion of course)

How is Huawei on updates? I have an unlocked UK device on order for use in the United States. It's VOG-L09. My second phone is a Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the wait for updates with Samsung is pathetic. I'm still waiting on the March update and most all the carrier models have it. Hoping Huawei is a bit faster? Also - do we normally have a specific thread to discuss updates here or just random as they come?

I've read that some people have received an update that included the March security patch. I've had my phone for a week and haven't received the update yet.

Where did you get a VOG-L09? As far as I know that's a single SIM variant? Didn't know it came as a single SIM...
VOG-L09 direct from O2 UK here. Single sim, software 9.1.0.124. Not sure if that's the latest but its the one that includes 3rd party app support for always on display.
Annoyed it didn't come with a clear silicone case like it seems to in Europe though. Ordered one on Amazon Prime to come tomorrow.
And it's on March security patch.

Got mine from cpw
This phone feels so much better. I dont get it. Same kirin 980. But games are smoother in frame rates. Example, Dolphin emulator struggles with mate 20 pro and 20 X in resident evil 4. With this p30 pro, smooth as hell... How? Not that I'm complaining!
It is definitely smoother in the whole software experience too! Surprised.
As for battery life... Omg. Very early but so far the best yet
I'm only on the first 113 software too. Can't seem to get the 124 update others are saying they've received

I believe the UK and Canadian versions are single SIM. I got mine from Technolec UK. Not the best deal but they are a brick and mortar and had 100% positive reviews on about 17,000 transactions so it felt safer. They are also an authorized retailer for Huawei. It was not cheap though.

UK is single or dual sim. EE and Three and selling the dual sim version. My friend powered up his Three P30 Pro and got firmware 124 immediately. My single sim from Amazon UK has got that update and is on 113. Really need 124 asap as this improves the camera a lot and fixes a lot of bugs too.
My single sim got the update as soon as I powered it on too. The 124 update.

I was spoiled by my experience with the Pixel 3XL. That said, I switched to the P30 Pro for its incredible battery life and competitive camera. Other than updates, I'm delighted to have made the switch.

You will never have the update experience that you get with Google or OnePlus (in my case) with anyone. As some have said, perhaps patience is the key. I'm not very good in that aspect either though. I still have to wait till the 12th of April for my unlocked P30 Pro to be released and then ship from the UK to USA so I guess I'd be happy just to have it at this point.

Do unlocked phones get updates slower than carrier models with Huawei? That's the case with Samsung. For whatever reason the unlocked phones are relegated to last place in the queue.
