I have a Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition with a locked bootloader, Alka TWRP and CM13. Before I flashed CM13 I was able to back up all the MIUI partitions with TWRP. I now have CM13 running on the phone but whenever I try to backup any partitions I get an error message "unable to mount storage, failed to mount /external_sd (invalid argument)".
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Thanks, I tried that but the box refuses to be ticked. If I try to make a backup and tap on "select storage" the micro sd card shows as 0MB. I'm using a Samsung 64GB microSD card. I get the same results with a Sandisk 64GB card. But if I use a Samsung 16GB card TWRP will back up to it without any problems, it's just that it's not big enough to back up the system and data partitions. So it looks as if TWRP is being fussy about which SD cards it will mount.
All 3 cards are mounted without any problems in CM13.
Is SD 64GB exfat ? Change to fat32 and try , I hope it help
@dwl99 Try erasing your "userdata" partition before booting in TWRP.
Use the command below on FASTBOOT:
erase userdata
After that, TWRP will be able to mount every partition.
("userdata" partition is encrypted. That's why TWRP cannot mount it.)

I think you may be on to something! The 64GB card is exfat, the 16GB card that works is fat32. Will try copying over the contents of card before reformatting it.
there may be some problems to format sd card 64 gb to fat32 , you can follow this method
http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/gu...ws-7-8-10-includes-micro-sdhc-sdxc-cards.html
Thanks for the advice, I couldn't format the 64GB card as fat32 using Windows 10 or SD formatter, only exfat but I found a utility that would do it http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm - TWRP has picked up the card & now backs up fine.

Right this desire is starting to become a problem child to say the least -_-, installed gingerburst 1.0.0.3 pre rooted and S-OFF and suddenly it wont mount my sd card itll mount my 8gb one but not my 16gb one and i need the 16gb one. tried reformatting it in recovery and mounting it via tht but i dno if i did it wrong or something. need the sd card partitioned for data2sd so partition sizes and names and info wud be good, thx
in recorvery it also says under mounts and storage tht "mount /sdcard" so it doesnt mount it auto. i tried mounting it then rebooting but wont mount again. i found under advanced in recovery it has partition sd card i formated it n now ive partitioned it using this method biggest vales ext 4096mb so 4gb and w.e the highest one for the other one was. basicly i want this sd card to be partitioned for data2sd to work good desire has very low internal memory and gingerburst is the best sense rom i found
fixed: i re partitioned it in recovery under advanced after formatting it within recovery in mounts and storage then clicked mount within mounts of storage on the sd card then rebooted. need details for partitioning it now
on my sd card it has a linux swap file a fat32partition n an ext2 partition what partition has data2sd got to be? ext 4 3 2 1?
for sdcard u normally have vfat(fat32) filesystem, when using it as data also (data2sd) you should add any ext partition I would recommend ext4 however some roms might not support that (should be very old roms) so you can make it with ext3.
you can use Gparted or MiniTool Partition Wizard to repartition the sdcard. you can check what filesystem is your data partition using 'mount'.
note that you should have some vfat partition left if you want to use it as a normal sdcard.
Hello!
I have a problem. When I partition my sd card, CM13 recognized two partitions (in Settings) but i can't use for example Camera (dont recognize sdcard). I want use second partition to link apps.
Ohh.. and I don't want use Internal Storage option.
Then you are out of luck. Also you will find that the apps you move to sdcard will suffer performance issues.
Hello guys, first of all, sorry for my english, i'm new in the forum and in english too
So today i install CM 13 Marshmallow 6.0.1 in my Moto E xt1022 and i tried to use Link2SD using a 32gb sd card (formating the SD Card to 9.05GB FAT32 And 20GB to ext4) and in the time of mount the script in the app i received this error: "cannot mount second partition, no such file or directory"
I tried formating the second partition to ext2, ext3 ext4 even FAT32 but the error continues
anyone have any solution?
Thanks...
I have install this CM12.1, but I can't move app to SD card, it says "Not enough storage space", my SD card is empty, I have tried:
Format the SD card to ext2, but CM12 can't read it
Format to Fat32 in CM12
Using SDFix
Is it possible to move app to SD card ?
Try to format your SD card to ext4 it should solve your problem. Mine is ext4 and works fine. Im using Link2SD too it is more clearer

I have tried to format to ext4, CM12 can mount it, but also can't move app to SD, Link2SD's "Link to SD" function need to partition the SD card to 2 partitions, but I don't want to do this.

1st off all. Why would you format your external SD card to F2FS. F2FS is only used for partitions like system/data(aka internal storage) and cache. There's no need to format your SD card to F2FS, all you can do now is format is back to FAT32 or exFAT (since that's what most SD card uses) and you should be able to use your SD card back.
Hit Thanks if this help you

It's quite different but any FAT type filesystem will work.
I think that this apps are in diuse, but now I`m using a Samsung J7 prime SM-G610M, with an android 8.1.0 and 16 Gb in storage. I wanted to extend the storage with a 64 gb SD card, so i intalled TWRP 3.6.0 and rooted with superSU V2.82.
Then I maked 2 partition in the SD Card
1. Fat32 with 29.74 Gb
2. EXT4 with 29.74 Gb
Finally I intalled Link2SD and mount the SD partition in the app. After reboot, I get a message saying that the app needs a "quick reboot" because the SD isn`t mounted. After the reboot, the sd partition work right, but, and here is the problem, when I try to link to SD card, this message shows up.
I don`t know what I did wrong or what is missing. I tried format the SD with EXT2/EXT3/EXT4 even with FAT32, none worked.
Someone can help me?
