[HELP] Tried to downgrade a m3s and got bricked! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
I've tried to downgrade the flyme os version on my m3s with FlashFire and the procces got stuck in the middle.
The phone turned off and there is no sign of life coming from it.
There is no recovery mode, and no sound when connecting device via usb.
Now i'm trying to flash a new rom with Flash tool.
I've downloaded MediaTek drivers, and the phone get recognized only when pressing VOL- button and connecting usb.
After that proccedure the device is detected as "MediaTek USB Port", altough the tutorial saying it should be detected as "USB VCOM PORT".
img: i68.tinypic.com/2eyj9fo.pn
(Sorry for not embedding the pictures in the post, i'm still a newbie here so xda won't allow that for me.)
Flash tool is trying to download the rom's but i keep getting this error: "STATUS_BROM_CMD_FAIL"
img: i67.tinypic.com/2f08zgn.png
Googling that error already a half day. Tried all suggested solutions execpt removing the battery.
What do you about that guys?
Is there any chance of survival for me g2s?

Your PC did not recognized your device because of improper driver installation try after flashing proper driver:-
-Here is the link of drivers of m3s install your required driver from this site:-
http://gsmusbdriver.com/meizu-m3s
Before installing this driver "disable driver signature verification" in your pc and then install this driver....ok...

I already did that, couple of times.
The device being detected only when pressing VOL- button and simultaneously connetcting USB.
All tutorials says that it should be detected without pressing any button - just connecting the phone with USB.
I Think that what cause the ERROR in flash tool.

PLEASE! I need to load a new ROM into my MT6575 phone using Smart Phone Flash tool.
I've installed the Mediatek drivers on 4 different computers in my house (Vista, Window 7, Windows 7 64bit, Windows 8) and I cant get ANY of them to work!!
When I look under Ports (COM and LPT) in Device Manager, I ALWAYS get: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
WHAT is going on!! I've wasted so much time with this problem.

your not the only one with this problem i have it too with same mt6575 someone help please
Need to uninstall device and reinstall drivers
If you google, "Code 10", you will find that on a Windows system it is an error code generated by the Device Manager "because it can not start a device". In a nut shell, the most likely cause for this is because the device was not properly installed with the right drivers.
If you are running Windows, you can try to use the attached file called USBReview to see what device that is as you know it is your phone. Basically, with this program you can remove all the old drivers and start all the driver installation again.
Try to find your phone either here on xda, on the web or contact your phone's manufacturer - you need drivers!!!
Good luck, Mr. Phelps.

Your USB program does give a lot of information I have never seen before, but I still haven't been able to figure out how to get the driver to load.
thanks, John
I'm having the same problem installing the MT6575 USB VCOM drivers. Is there a workaround to get this installed? I"m using WIN 6 64bit

This is what worked for me after lot of experimenting and searching:
- get MTK6575 drivers (for instance from Bruno Martins where he writes about flashing mtk6575 - google: MT6575 flashing tutorial bruno
- Start c/windows/system32/hdwwiz.exe (as admin)
- Click next
- Manually select hardware
- List all devices
- Select the driver (for example usb2ser_Win764.inf)
- from the List select "MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM Port"
(or you can install other drivers from the list if Preloader is not enough..)
On another computer I solved it by installing whole Android SDK, checked my android system and installed updated for SDK (approx. 2 GB) and it installed correct drivers automatically.
Also you can experiment with using another usb port..
Please write here if it helped.

Did you ever get this problem solved as I have the same issue with an MTK 6592 chip based phone?
I have the same problem too.
Installation of Media Tek preloaded drivers gives me Code 10 error.
Has anyone found the solution?
my phone is totally dead without power now after I tried to flash with SP Flash tool using correct ROM. I noticed in device manager that there is a CODE 10 error in mediatek preloader usb driver.. is this the culprit? my phone can no longer be detected now in SPFlash or MTK Droid tools... so hopeless... this is a brandnew phone I bought to be given as gift to my cousin...
I did it! I did it! I did it!
The solution is... we need not MediaTek USB VCOM (Android) (USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0005&MI_02), but PreLoader USB VCOM Port (USB\Vid_0e8d&Pid_2000) !
I have MTK6582 (KingSing S2), the host - WinXPx64.
It looks like my phone (and, maybe, other MTK devices too) have several engineering modes.
I have spent several hours trying to get working VID_0BB4&PID_0005&MI_02, which is exposed, if device is turned on while holding VOL- pressed. In this mode some strange factory mode with nonfunctional menu items is displayed on the screen. But to activate mode with Vid_0e8d&Pid_2000 some trickery is necessary.
Sometimes this USB interface starts repeatedly to appear and disappear every half-second in infinitive loop. I had such situation once, when connected turned off phone to USB cable with battery removed.
I just literally catched MT65xx Preloader by double clicking on it in windows device manager and pressing "install drivers" in it's properties. I have used Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00\SmartPhoneDriver\x64\Infs\usbvcom.inf from http://spflashtool.com/download/Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00.zip. DriverVer = 12/24/2011, 2.0000.0.0
After clicking "Read Back" in Flash Tool this insane loop stopped and program started to function as intended.
This interface could also appear once and for very short moment, if turned off phone (with battery inserted) is just connected to host. Also it could be seen again, if power button is pressed. If "Download" or "Read Back" is not pressed in advance in Flash Tool, than boot will continue after smaller than a second pause (if device is functional).
I don't know if running Install.bat (from archive I have given above) is necessary. It didn't installed driver when Vid_0e8d&Pid_2000 wasn't active, but, I guess, running it during short blinks would give the same effect.
Also, I don't know, if advice given in comment#6 in this thread four years ago would work. Maybe, the fault was in older version of driver (DriverVer=05/30/2011,1.1123.0).
Another reason could be that necessary USB interface disappears before windows manages to install driver for it for the first time. Possibly, only if "catched" in device manager, user could manually assign driver to it.
I've been struggling with my UMI Rome for days. It has/had the black screen problem, sometimes won't enter recovery mode, sometimes wouldn't allow charge, sometimes works just fine (yesterday). Last night i mistakenly cut off power during a battery recharge. -- today it has all the above problems (bricked) so I am trying doing a flashing again using the tutorials and tools on the Tehnotone.com site. Sintetix's reply above helps me at least have a better clue on what is going on. Wish me luck! BTW, I am using a Dell Windows 10 pc. (Results to be reported here.)

I tried what you said. It wouldn't install properly. It kept saying error (code 10) and showed in device management with a caution sign every time I installed the driver. I disabled the forced driver signature thingamabop but it still does it. I guess I'm screwed. Has anyone else fixed this?

[Q] THL W100 and problems with Mediatek USB preloader ....

Hi all...
I received my THL W100 yesterday from an italian reseller... I ordered it already rooted and it arrived directly fron Hong Kong with the latest firmware 130711 and prerooted with Superuser (I checked it with root checker and it's effectively rooted...).
It also has it's own recovery pre installed (when I enter the recovery mode with pover+volume up it appears an "android recovery"...)...
I wanted to flash a different recovery (the Barry63 recovery) and so proceeded with installing in one of my four pc (running win XP SP3) the drivers I founf inside the Ro.edi package... after this, I turned off my phone, disassembled the battery, put the usb cable both on my phone and on my pc and finally inserted the battery... I hear the tipical sound played when you put a new USB device in a computer and immediately after (a secondo or so...) a second sound tipical of when you disconnect your USB device... all in all my phone automatically disconnects and this results in a "non installation" of the Mediatek USB preloader I neeed to use the SPFlashtool...
I tried on anoter pc of mines, running Win XP (a modded version) and got the same result...
I also tried another pc running Win7 Home Premium , forced the installation of the Mediatek USB preloader via the "hdwwiz" method, put the usb cable in both the phone and the pc, re-connected the battery and... it recognizes the new device, starts to install the Mediatek USB preloader, but after some seconds it says "device diconnected"....
Same issue on the fourth and last pc of mine running Win 7 starter...
It's like my phone has something in the firmware (root?Recovery?) that doesn't allow me to install the Mediatek USB preloader...
Any idea about it ?
My phone works perfectly, the pc recognizes it both as USB archive and USB debug... I can do almost all the things I want (the phone is rooted and so I installed all the apks I wanted, included the MobileUncleTools... but I can not use the SPFlash tool as I can not install the MediaTek USB preloader... :crying:
Thank you in advance for you precious answers...

did you enabled "usb debuging" in developer settings.

Yes... it was enabled...
Anyway I solved the problem... I discovered that what it happened to my phone is the "supposed to be" for that driver... in fact, after launching SPFlashtool and press dowload, when you plug in the battery on the phone SPFlash recognize the phone and starts flashing the right way.
Finally I succeeded in it and flashed the Barry6030 recovery.
Thank you :good:

[Q] Phone not starting after unsuccessful flashing

Hello all,
I have a rooted Micromax A58 which was perfectly working. I did a full nandroid backup of it 2 days ago. On yesterday, I was moving some system app (google maps, play store etc) to SD with some software) so that I could increase the internal memory and install some other softwares. But, unfortunately, after that modification, the phone stopped working properly (it was stucking up when the BOLT logo was reached). So, I started it in recovery and do a wipe cache and factory reset. After that, the phone is always going to Factory Mode.
Then I tried to Flash the Stock ROM using Flash Tool but was unsuccessful multiple times. After the scatter file selected, when I clicked the 'Download' (or even firmware upgrade), all time time, the phone was disconnecting/reconnecting every now and then and nothing happened after (even though I already installed the Vcom and PdaNet driver in the PC). So, I had to quit. I am attaching herewith the logs of the Flash Tool lastly tried.
Now, when I am starting the phone power button, nothing is happening.. NOTHING but black screen...
I am a bit worried.. your help very much appreciated. Please let me know for any information needed. Thanks.
'No com port detected' error
I tried another time and the problem still there.. When in SP Flash Tool, I select scatter file, click 'Download' and connect the phone to PC, the process doesn't progress further. So, I have to finally click 'Stop' to quit. In the logs, it shows--
"No com port detected.."
Attaching the trace logs file herewith.
Please advice how to resolve the issue.. I am totally stuck now. Thanks.

Hello Kapil,
Thanks for the response. Yesterday I tried with separate laptop, but the same problem was there. Today, I tried with the different USB port.. but didn't help.
It seems that the driver can not recognize the device and when I connect the phone, it is just in a loop of disconnecting/re-connecting. Please advice further. Thanks.
Only option now seems is Service Centre.
The guys are pretty dumb. I've tested samsung motorola etc.....they don't even know what root is.
Maybe they'll be unable to identify what you tried to do.
You can give any reason for it not functioning.
Good luck.

Thank you Kapil for the advice. As Micromax service centre is not having a good reputation regarding these, so I would go for that option as the last resort.
Before that, can I please ask the other members for giving further advice if there is any option to try with.. Thanks for your help.

I tried the above multiple times but everytime same error as above.
When tried to connect the phone (without battery) it is disconnect/reconnect in an endless loop.
When try to connect with battery, the disconnect/reconnect loop is gone (i.e.-stable) but sometime it can not identity phone ('Unknown Device').
Also tried to press volume down button along with battery inside, but showing 'Unknown Device' and Flash tool getting hanged.
I used the Stock Rom downloaded from xda site for my phone detailed below---
Android 4.2.2
Model Micromax A58

I also have the good nandroid backup (if it could be of any use) but phone is dead now. Confused how to go forward. Please help.

Model Micromax A58
BaseBand version- MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V1.P11 2013/09/04 15:51
Kernel 3.4.5 [email protected] #1
Build Number Micromax A58_T09
I also have the good nandroid backup (if it could be of any use) but phone is dead now. Confused how to go forward. Please help.

In the meanwhile, when trying to resolve the issue, I tried the following steps and after that, I lastly managed to 'download' the Stock ROM successfully in my phone (using the Windows XP OS)--
1) As I was always getting the SP Flash Tool error 4032 for last couple of days and which was clearly describing 'please check your load matches your target which is to be downloaded', so was investigating the root cause in details. Upon searching in the internet, I downloaded multiple version of Stock ROMs for my Micromax A58 model from different sources to give a try. When trying to 'Download' (in SP Flash Tool), the 'T_09' ROM (link given by 'alanvmathew') in the below mentioned URL worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610046&page=2
It is to be noted from the link that Micromax A58 model have 2 different Stock ROMs (i.e.- 'T_07' and 'T_09') which info I was missing all the time.
2) After identifying the scatter file in the SP Flash Tool and clicking the 'Download' option, I inserted battery in the phone and pressing the 'Power + Volume down' button, connected the device into the PC USB. Upon connected, the 'DA USB VCOM PORT' driver automatically installed and the 'Download' started and flashing of ROM went smooth. Finally, it ended up with green 'Download OK' message. Also attaching the snapshots herewith.
Will check the mobile and its performance further and revert back accordingly.

Lenovo P780 SoftBrick

Hey Guys
I bricked my P780 and didnt do a backup. I formated the phone with SpFlashTool, afterwards the Flashing didnt work. And a second format didnt work too.
Now i tried nearly every possible tutorial on the web...
I am using win7
My main problem is that i am using SpFlashTool (newest version) and i get an 4032 Error if i try to download the rom.
I tried nearly every Rom for the p780 with every possible scatter file.
I tried nearly every MediaTek DA VCOM USB Driver, MediaTek PreLoader VCOM USB Driver and MTK USB Port Driver and always with no success.
I even plugged out the battery (its not removable) without damaging the phone...

Hi. Because you have formated your nand you must reinstall your drivers, because your preloader now is messed up.
In order to do that you must do this:
1. Install drivers.
2. Go to device manager and let the window open.
3. Connect your phone and new hardware should appear for just a seccond or 2 max, something with MTK 6.5.XXX.
4. Click very fast on the little new thing that appear there because will desapear.
5. Now press the button to update drivers hardware. In one of my posts you will find an archive with the right drivers. Drivers are on the archive uploaded here.
6. After the drivers are installed your PC should recognize the phone.
7. After this the steps should be the same to flash your ROM. Oh and by the way: Press Firmware Upgrade button not Download. And dont forget to check DA/DL With Checksum... option
8. Waiting for feedback.
9. Good Luck.

Hi. The drivers i uploaded to you at my post!

MT6580 device, no booting after unlocking bootloader

Does somebody have any information or encounter about this? The device is a Blu Energy X Plus 2, a back up phone I wanted to experiment with.
-After unlocking bootloader using ADB, phone got stuck at boot logo.
-I forgot to wipe.
-Device is not yet rooted
-After waiting for minutes I have forced the phone to shut down.
-Volume+Power combo, battery is non removable
-Now it wont turn on and respond to any button.
-It charges, as proven by the red light.
-It is somehow detected by the PC using the VCOM drivers. PC makes a sound and MT65xx PreLoader VCOM appears in the Device Manager.
-SP Flash Tool will not start download. Even tried download before plugging in usb, nothing happens.
-Tried many different flash tools versions. 1628, v5, v3, Nothing works. No error message but an error appears when I plug out the USB cord
-BROM Error: S_BROM_CMD_STARTCMD_FAIL(0x7D5)
Cannot pass bootroom start command! Possibly target power up too early.
Hi , maybe your SP Flash tool is not compatible for your chip , so try this one :
https://spflashtool.com/download/SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win.zip
Search firmware exactly for your device model .
You can use IDM -Internet Dowwnload Manager for fast downloading...

I have already tried the 5.1628 version, it is also not working.
The latest version has a bug I think which causes it to have a RUntime error when picking a scatter file.
The old v3 will not accept any scatter file anymore.
Also I have downloaded two versions of stock rom already. First one is 800 mb and the second one is 2GB. Both do not work, but I suspect the first one to completely fail since it had an unmatching scatter file within.
Try this.Hold power button for 2 min if your phone boots up Good News It's usable. If not then It's only crap now.Mediatek devices are not supposed to be rooted and if somehow you managed to do that they will make sure you pay for it.

I tried it but the device doesnt seem to respond to any button whatsoever. The device is not rooted though, I wanted to flash magisk but it all happened after unlocking the bootloader. But I have hope since the preloader is indeed detected in the PC.
Try to relock bootloader with adb if your device is recognised by ADB ...

What's up with VCOM?
Well I don't think your PC would be able to detect your device because you haven't got the VCOM drivers yet. Get any VCOM driver for Mediatek, and then disable driver signature enforcing on Windows. Now fire up SPFT and select the scatter use v5.1628 as the newer ones seem to be unstable (also verified by OP). Now choose the Preloader for your device and then enter download mode. Turn off the phone (if you can't, just let it die until the battery is over). And then connect it using an USB cable, while SPFT is in download mode. You should be able to unbrick your device.
And as you said S_BROM_CMD_STARTCMD_FAIL(0x7D5), that is when the device powers up too early before the flash could begin. The 8 byte token is not received by the preloader and hence it ain't working. This is why you have to switch your phone off completely, and also try using a different USB cable
Note:
The preloader parition has an emergency download mode which is used to enable the download to take place. Now, if you flash the wrong preloader, then your device won't even be detected in SPFT or anywhere else. So yeah, in MTK preloader is the life of your phone. Please verify that you are flashing the correct preloader

Tried everything here, and I even used a windows 7 pc but it is still not working. The VCOM was already installed, in fact when I plug in the phone windows automatically detects it as the MTK Preloader VCOM USB port(COM13) in the device manager. The VCOM driver that is supposed to be installed leaves an error in the device manager (COM12). SP Flash tool still will not start flashing. No error messages, until I plug out the usb cord.

You do see that exclamation right - this means it isn't properly configured

Looks like it's more of a Windows issue than your phone. If your preloader's good - you're safe. I think it's a COM bridge issue. Just stay on the wait and I'll get back to you in a minute or two

I'm working on a batch script for you to fix the COM issue. Would you mind sharing your Windows Version and Architecture?
I'm building it for Windows 7 x64 - if that's your PC?

I mean the COM13 is fairly OK for the part, its the VCOM that comes from installing the phone. However the COM12 that came from the manual installer had the exclamation point.

Yes, in fact I have first tried it in Windows 10 x64 before switching back to this W7 x64 laptop. Same problem same outcome though
So let us go 101
Okay - the first thing that we'd do now is blow off those crappy drivers - uninstall them! Now get on your Windows 10 x64 PC. Install the VCOM drivers from this XDA thread. It's for elephone, however I've used it myself and it works really well on almost any device. Now power off your phone completely (no bootlooop, completely dark screen). Launch SPFT, select scatter, select the correct preloader and then hit on download. Do not connect your phone now! Now wait for 10 seconds. Now connect your phone. And let the download begin. If it works - fantastic, if it doesn't ping me back and I'll be waiting for replying to you. The batch script is almost done (I was doing some kernel work), I'll upload it once I'll be back home (on the way back now).
Fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

Dude holy ****, I cannot believe that it worked! I swear I was very confident that the problem was not in the drivers, but out of luck I started to follow that guide again from start to finish and selected the "MTK USB Port" in the device manager section. Then I plugged in and SP flash tool finally started! You rock!
Your welcome! I'm glad that worked!
