Changing Region CODE to Match new ROM? (verbose context follows questions) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1) How to I determine if my Lenovo Yoga Tablet YT3-850L (LTE data only) has a REGION CODE?
2) How to I determine WHAT that code IS, if not evident in the answer to the above?
3) Is it possible to CHANGE a REGION CODE on an as-yet NOT ROOTED device? If so, how?
4) Might it be useful to change the REGION CODE?
5) Might changing the REGION CODE be a "Bad Idea?"
6) Is it likely that the SAME ROM will behave DIFFERENTLY on the SAME DEVICE if the REGION CODE is changed? (I know this can kill OTA updates on non-rooted devices)
CONTEXT: I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 Tablet YT3-850L. This is the SIM-equipped LTE data only version, no phone. My research indicates that this tablet was issued in THREE (3) versions: F (WiFi only), L (WiFi + LTE) & M (WiFi, LTE, Voice). However, there are only TWO ROMs for these THREE devices, and only TWO source codes: one for F and another one for L/M. Some have reported flashing the M ROM onto an F tablet, with the result being the appearance of a non-functional PHONE app. I am hoping that flashing the M ROM onto my L tablet would give me a functional phone in addition to the LTE data. There really is no separate L ROM. Reports elsewhere suggest that there are NO HARDWARE differences between the L/M devices.
So, I am guessing here, but think that the REGION CODE is the key to determining whether the (ostensibly) SAME HARDWARE functions as L or as M. Some countries (i.e., Russia, Czech Republic) offer M, but others offer L. I can't determine if BOTH L & M versions are marketed in the SAME country. I'm in the US, and my device is from a country which appears to offer only the L version. The marketing difference seems to be based on REGULATORY APPROVAL, best as I can tell. So, if Lenovo doesn't go to the considerable bother to get FCC or EU approval for the M device, it's just offered as an L.
I'm cautioned that flashing a ROM which is not in sync with the REGION CODE of the device is asking for trouble. Not sure that warning is a concern in my case; I DID change ROMs on my Samsung SM-T325 from one region to another w/o any issues, and AFAIK, the device thinks it's now a UK device. But it works anywhere. But, others say that having a ROM-Region Code mismatch can cause problems, including bricking the device.
So, can anyone tell me what I should consider( aside from reckless experimentation) with my YT3-850L regarding flashing the M ROM onto my L device in an effort to turn it into an M model? I can't find that my LTE-only L model even HAS a REGION CODE. That may be because it is hidden, or AFAIK, REGION CODES are only issued to PHONES, which the L model is NOT (though the M is). One thread suggested to be ready to SUPPLY the appropriate REGION CODE when flashing a ROM from another region. Here again, I don't know what to expect.
I'd appreciate any suggestions and especially specific guidance, links, etc. Theories may be useful, but experience with this obviously is preferred. Hope someone is interested AND knowledgeable in the area. Many thanks.

Code to changing modem region is ####682#
You need to go to CONTACTS, click SEARCH icon, when searching for contacts enter ####682#, there will be Your actual region at top of screen, below You can change region, system will reboot after, don't know what will happen with Your actual data, I made it after unbricking YT3-850L without any installed apps/data.
As for changing "L" to "M" I made it and my Yoga has been bricked (lost EFS, NVRam, IMEI, WIFI Mac, BT Mac, GPSID etc.), someone helped me unbricking this device, so if I were You i would BACKUP ALL DATA including .QCN file (NVram).
Regards.

[Q] Samsung Note SGH-I717 or SHV-E160L?

Hi.
I have a problem with my Note. I bought the Korean version of the phone (at leats it should be) but the specifications of the phone are driving me crazy lol
As I said, when I bought it, it should be the Korean version, however the rom running on it is from AT&T (AT&T splash screen, AT&T wifi hotspots in the settings, AT&T phone update and so on). The phone is rooted. When I run a device info app, it’s a mess:
Android version: 2.3.6
Release Codename: REL
CPU ABI: armeabi-v7a
CPU ABI2: armeabi
Hardware: SHV-E160L
Board: MSM8660_SURF
Device: SGH-I717
Display: GINGERBREAD.Jhonms.557419
Model: SAMSUNG-SGH-i717
Product: SGH-I9220
Even though I don’t understand some of this info, there are 3 things that intrigue me. The CPU, I guess it’s from the Korean version, since it seems the AT&T devices have a QUALCOMM processor. But the weirdest part for is the Hardware (SHV-E160L) and the Device and Model (SGH-I717) information. Shouldn’t that be the same in all the information? So my phone is it the AT&T model or the Korean model? The guy who sold it to me told me it was the Korean model but they change something in the ROM to support Chinese (I live in China), and the Korean ROM doesn’t support Chinese. However, I want to put the original Korean ROM because it has the NFC already working, while in the AT&T build I have in my phone, it’s not activated yet. So, anyway can anyone tell me which model I have?
And, if it's the Korean model, how did he put the AT&T ROM on it? I thought you couldn't mess the S7000, SI717, etc model roms?!
Thanks in advance.
This is all correct for an i717 at&t model.
hi,
i am also living in china and i guess i have the same device with yours.
i checked some web sites and they said at&t model doesn't have any physical home button.
but mine has it and the korean model (E160L) has it, too.
so i guess the hardware is from korea but the rom is not the original one.
does your device has '掌界网www_dot_wpcnn_dot_com' in Build number?
if so, it must be the same as mine.
i am thinking whether i can rewrite E160L original rom by modifying some information in build.prop. but i haven't succeeded in doing it because i don't know correct data in E160L's build.prop. (i am thinking samsung kies can update the rom to E160L's one if i fake it to E160L)
this device supports LTE though. i don't know if it's enabled on this device or not.
*#2263# doesn't the menu for it.
and i tried to install CMW (for SGH-I717) by odin3 today. flashing it to the device was ok. but the device cannot get in recovery mode....(infinite loop of booting)
anyway, this rom sucks.

Was anyone able to flash CWM on this? I am also having a loopy-recovery.
AFAIK... CMW = for ENGLISH, FRENCH and SPANISH etc ...languages.... and not set for 128bit character languges (am not sure iof right-correct tech word for chinese kange etc sorry to lazy to look that word up!)
the CMW = for 'western languages' only
Smart for S'sung = KOREAN MODELS = as non western languages .....
((( that they designagted that as "INTERNATIONAL MODEL" phones different MODEL NUMBER to ATT/Rodgers etc )))
There is a thread from one OP = about BOUNTY for making "korean models' able to do CMW + ATT/Roders ROMS etc ,,,,, you can search for there for my comments ..
Cheers , hope this helps towards some explinations of CMW/Drivers etc between two models of NOTE

no, no and no.
If I may have your attention within this Thread, the report system is not for ROM issues .
The report system is for Forum Rule violations, so please do not use the reporting system to identify your ROM/Rooting and or any issues regarding this manner.
Please understand that issues if they can be will be addressed, within the thread. Continue reporting that regarding your ROM issues, will result in abuse of the reporting system.
Thank you.

HTC, HTC Desire X ROMs, CID ... questions

Hello,
I'm quite new with android devices and have read several topics here, but still have some questions. So I do apologize if it's answered or explained already somewhere, but I haven't found it.
Let me first explain what my assumption was and what are now.
1. HTC kernel/update - So HTC is getting generic android from google and make and add their modifications.
- Maybe there are some difference in the ROMs and/or devises for different regions like Europe, Asia, America ... , but not sure if it's correct and why it is needed at all, unless it is something specific with network carriers
- I do not understand the reason to have a different ROM or OAU per network carrier unless that the update should be approved by the carrier /why needed/. If so, what about the countries and carriers not available on htcdev site, that means such operators and countries use generic regional like WWE Eastern Europe or EU, but who is approving them in that case
- currently there are quite big difference to updates and versions available for different regions and carrier operators
2. Is there any way to get stock/original ROMs
So till recently I believed there is a generic ROM and depending on your home network/operator/carrier you got OAU or not, but it turned out that is completely wrong. It seems the phone is preloaded with a specific ROM made for specific operator or more generic one like EU, and depending on those ROM you have particular update or not.
- still not sure what the reason for this is
3. What is the meaning of CID on particular ROM, isn't it just a simple configuration in a configuration file into ROM.
I thought if you have stock ROM with different CID inside than current one, you should be able to flash the phone with it and it should work. Possible issues should be only with network carrier , but all the rest should work, isn't that correct.
4. If you flash you phone would your IMEI and/or CID change or the CID is hw locked and not into ROM
5. Is there any way to change the CID
6. I've read a lot in the forum in regards to ROMs, but still not clear
- is there any really original stock ROMs
- why people having issues with stock ROM depending on their current CID, and the ROM is working with some and doesn't with others
- what is the problem with OAU after change of the ROM with stock one
7. Is it possible to make a image of my phones without rooting them
8. What's the problem to get the ROM from one phone and put it in another as both are original coming from HTC with devices
I do not want to root the device or put custom ROM for now, but interested in having original HTC ROM with different CID than the current one, and trying to understand the setup and how it is working and how can it be done.
I own two Desire X which happened to be with different ROMs and CIDs, one Orange CH, the other T-Mobile PL, so there are some difference, so I would prefer to have them both identical may be EU or Eastern Europe ROMs inside and have the corresponding OAU working .
appreciate you help.

[Q] Changing from carrier specific to international. What to expect?

I'm considering flashing the international firmware. I have three reasons for doing so:
Carrier bloatware
Carrier firmware update latency (not always the case but not wanting to take the risk)
Some users have confirmed that "international" improved the battery life & speed.
I have several questions before flashing:
My phone was carrier locked but I got the unlock code; will the code still work?
Will I get notified for updates for the international version instead of the current version (thinking the answer is "yes" but need to be sure)?
Do I need to take into consideration something in particular for flashing?
Other?

[Q] band 12 on vzw motoe xt1528

According to spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones , the Moto E 4G LTE (2nd Gen) XT1527 is band 12 compatible. Can the XT1528 be made band 12 somehow, or is there a physical hardware difference between the devices?
What I gathered reading around here.
* Firmware images are available for T-Mo 1527. However I read that only the 5.02 firmware has band 12 working
* The bootloader is locked on the verizon device
Someone suggested that it might be possible to use part of the 5.02 firmware files for the radio for the 5.1 firmware, to enable band 12, but so far one person claimed that it did not work. . Looking at the number of views this thread has gotten, it appears there is a lot of interest in getting band 12 working on the verizon handset. If any of my statements are not correct, or otherwise, feel free to correct me
Verified the bootloader is locked on my 1528: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
* If it was not the case, then it might be possible to flash a firmware which enables band 12. Then we need a way to unlock the bootloader to enable band 12.

[ROM][STOCK] Moto X Pure/Style Chinese variant XT1570 5.1.1 LPH23.145-7_7

This is the UNMODIFIED STOCK ROM for the Chinese version of Moto X Pure/Style. Model Number XT1570.
The Chinese variant NEVER moved to Marshmallow. While this ROM is NOT the newest, it is one of later official ROM.
Since entire Google is censored by the Chinese government, this ROM does NOT come with ANY Google applications. Many of the similar function are replaced by (much inferior) Chinese equivalent.
Note that Chinese variant is different from other dual SIM variant in the following way:
1. LTE band is different. This is the only variant I am aware of which support both US/AT&T and China/China Unicom LTE band
2. Chinese variant support Baidu Navigation signal in addition to GPS and GLONASS
Additional hardware detail of Chinese variant is in my other post:

Notice that by default, the batch file WILL flash stock recovery files. be warned!
Is there any chance of flashing it into a XT1572 firmware and be able to use the other bands? I'm new at this and I'm not sure if is it possible

people in China tried and it was very messy. radio no longer worked property. I advice you against it.
I have flashed Lineage OS CM13. both sim card works. BUT I am not in China at the moment, and China uses a different frequency. So, I can't guarantee if it works or not.

Do it at your own risk.. there are possiblties that
1) 2nd SIM won't work
2)you will end up in bootloop
3)while flashing you might get pre valid fail errors
4) it might get installed but you will get lots of FCS
5) everything will be Chinese so you won't understand anything
Do it at your own risk..
Advice to take backup of your rom via twrp and then proceed (at your own risk)

Chinese version of x style is being sold in Iran due to sanctions of American manufacturer. our service center flashes xt1572 retasia ds 6.0.1 official ROM and it works fine in IRAN, Chinese network may vary. they also tried flashing retasia and retla DS 7.0 on xt1570 but sim won't work.
i'm gonna try it myself.

Hi, can you share the link for "OS CM13" for download for XT1570, i want to try it.
I am currently on 5.1.1 stock ROM, i need clarification on two things
1. My google maps only works when i try to find something but when i ask for assistance it looses GPS signals while i move. I had tried different location & networks but situation remains the same. So any similar issues or should i change to some other Navigation App. My location is Pakistan.
2. Battery timings with 4G LTE, i am getting approx 8-10 hours. Tried replacing it with new but same results.
Hope to hear from you soon.
