Hi guys, I have a problem with my Asus Z380KL tablet. Im want to use this tablet as a head unit in my car and I need to use OTG cable to make it work, also I need to have charging in the same time. I also want to use AutoMate app to control tablet, especially auto on/off while charging/not charging.
And now is the problem, I can easily achieve working external devices (usb dac, FM transmitter and pendrive) with charging in the same time, problem is when I cut off the power from charger tablet still thinks that is charging, of course it cant be cause there is no power source but still I can see charging icon and in settings showing that is still charging. It stop doing that when I unplug micro usb plug from tablet but obviously I cant do it all the time cause tablet will be build in dashboard.
Now, with normal charger, without OTG cable its working perfectly, when I cut off power it stops charging in the same time, also I tried couple OTG cables and on every single one is the same thing.
Any ideas guys how I can fix that? Im not sure if thats software of hardware problem.
Also device is not rooted and it has ASUS oem software with Android 6.0.1.
Thanks guys for your answers and your time! Cheers

Really nobody knows what could be a problem?

ok so with my gf's nook COLOR it seemed to suffer from the known issue with charging. i.e the "n" symbol will light up but wont actually charge. Does the tablet suffer from the same dilemma? Just wondering because I am debating maybe picking up a nook tablet for her but since she doesn't know anything about this and i dont feel like messing with it so often I figure I'd save myself the headache . Thanks
It's not a bug. You need to use the charger that comes with it or another USB based adapter with a high enough output
You can actually charge the NT with a microUSB cable connected to a computer. I believe as long as you have the screen turned off, the battery will charge. I've charged it with the screen off and with the NT completely powered off.
I forget where I read from but the NT cable has an extra 12 pins which enable fast charging when plugged into the adapter provided. So keep in mind that it will take many more hours to fully charge the NT when connected to the USB port of a computer since the output is much lower than the adapter provided.
the oem charger was used with the NK. I just wanted to know if there were any reports of the NT having the same issue.

There are no reports of the same issue. There are also no custom roms for the NT.
I never experienced the issue with either my NC or NT.
We dont have any custom roms.
I don't know if anybody else has had this problem before, but I hope there is somebody out there who can help me with my problem.
Basically, until a few days ago, my Galaxy Tab 10.1 was working fine until I did a reinstall from a backup as I was having a problem with the device due to it running sluggishly slow and crashing every so often.
Now, for some weird reason, the device won't charge at all when the USB cable is plugged into the official USB AC Adaptor and instead all I get is the "MTP Initialization" message that somebody would usually get when connecting the Tab 10.1 to a PC or Laptop.
It seems to charge when hooked up to a laptop very slowly but that's about it.
If there's anybody out there who can help me fix this problem, it would be most appreciated at all (to be honest, I can't wait until I go back to university in September and I can sell this POS and buy a 64GB Transformer Pad Infinity instead!)
EDIT: I've tried another cable and now it's saying that it's MTP-Connected instead of not MTP-Connecting at all!
Bump as I have a feeling that this isn't a one-off problem and that it's affecting a lot of other Tab 10.1's as well...
Never had that issue.
Are you sure your cable is ok?
Having exactly the same problem, no idea how to fix it at all. Looks like it's faulty usb port, because sometimes my laptop 'recognize' the tablet, but it's very rare (don't really know what does it depend on). I'm afraid sending the tablet to service is the only solution .
Try a different charger, different cable and check the port for debris
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
I've checked the port and there's no debris in it, I've checked the new cable that I've bought and it's already worn through from the look of things at the end with the plug that connects to the device itself.
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had any insights in to this problem I have been having.
Briefly, I have the 4g lte verion on EE's new network. I purchased the official MHL/HDMI adapter which works fine and the video is outputed to my sammy 50inch tv fine. The issue I have is the battery drains while doing so. I belive this may to due to the phone outputting more than it is drawing from the power source. Any thoughts ?
I spoke with Samsung tech and they said a number of people have started to report this issue and they are currently testing/investigating. If this is indeed the case seems a pointless acessory as a long video would possibly drain the whole battery, Im yet to test the full drain time.
Secondly, with a 3rd party docking cradle with spare battery slot which purchased from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/eLifeStore®-Samsung-Desktop-Charger-Docking/dp/B008PPRGFY) also does not charge phone properly. Even with the orignial charger in the ac port (or usb port) . The phone reports as charging but stays the same or decreases. Charged directly from the socket it is fine. Strange!
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian
It's common. Mine did that too! I switched to my old S2 charger, problem solved
Thanks Ill try that out, any idea why that works ?

No idea man? A design fault maybe? All I know is that my phone took for f#*%ing ever to charge with the USB type wall charger. I pulled it out of the socket and plugged my other other one in that was sitting right next to it and it started charging? Checked a few minutes later and it had climbed considerably so I pulled the USB cable out of the new plug and kicked it under the bed where it now lays resting not to be used again LOL.
USB plug/cord works perfectly fine? So I use it on the computer. My laptop even charges the phone via the USB cable faster than the socket plug (which is usually the opposite - as I am sure we are all aware). So yeah I would say poor design or defective wall plug or both or something? Wasn't going to send my phone back because of it. 2second decision problem solved Samsung phone is great!
Im having exactly the same problem.
I have an s3 on orange and have the same mhl adapter conected to my tv.
I have tried the charger from my s3 which does says its charging when I connect my phone but only for about a minute so I also tried using the charger from my s2 and that just does exactly the same.
An easier way is to buy the official allshare dongle for your hdtv then you can stream anything from your phones screen direct to your tv and can have the phone on charge via pc or wall socket at the same time,
Hope this helps
i suggest you throw away your original charger (slow charge) and its usb cable (loose - actually caused the extsd to become damaged to the point i had to repartition) and buy yourself a cheap usb cable for data (£2) and a 3rd party charger (pref not a usb adapter one - £5) and all should be fine!
I still experienced a small battery drain while using the mhl adapter, however, i froze a few apps with titianuim (ones i know run all the time like utter and tasker, paragon ntfs, easy ums, directory bind etc), and put it on min brightness - works like a charm. I know its a effort freezing apps but does the trick with my phone... Since finding that out i actually keep paragon & easy ums frozen till i need them...
just a few thoughts for you....
Hey guys,
I'm using my tablet in my car and have it connected to a Kenwood radio which has two USB ports. The radio can recognize the android device and changes automatically to USB as an input and then my steering wheel controls don't work anymore.
So as a workaround I bought an USB adapter which only connects the power pins. But with this adapter, the tablet is not charging. The cable itself is working as intended with another phone, so it has to be something special about the tablet.
Does anybody know if there is a way to use a data connection via USB to only give power to the Z2 tablet?
Man, somtimes I'm just an incredible idiot. The Xperia Z2 Tablet has a dedicated charging port at the bottom for which I already have a cable. So, I'm going to use that.
Sometimes the solution is so damn obvious
Hi guys, looking for some help here. My goal is to use a tablet with a seek thermal USB camera plugged into the charging port. It's going to be mounted in a semi-permanent location and running non stop, so I'll need to keep power to the tablet at all times. Is there a solution for this? Is there a way to plug power into the charging port while also allowing the OTG item (Seek Thermal) to work simultaneously? I've looked at some connectors on Amazon but it's very unclear if they will only Power the OTG item but not charged the tablet or both. I thought about using inductive charging for the tablet, but I'm failing to find any tablet that has an inductive coil built-in.
I'm going to purchase a new tablet for this so I'm open to whatever model works. Right now the Seek Thermal is a micro USB connection but I have a micro USB to USB-C connector just in case the new tablet uses a USB-C connection.
Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks @jwoegerbauer, do you know if there's anything pre-made available? Some of the items linked in that post are no longer available. Thx
