Backup-point on Android is that possible? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
this is my first thread in a forum ever, so please don't be too mad at me.
So now to my question:
Is it possible to make something like a backup point on android, I mean to extract ALL files (plus the state of the OS) like on Windows.
I haven't found anything on google yet and maybe I opened the thread in the wrong category please move it then (if that is possible, I already said it's my first thread and I'm not used to forums).
I know that you can backup your data on PC and so on and then make a factory reset and load all the data in. But now that Android 7 came out and my phone (Vernee Apollo Light) will get the update soon for safety reason I want to backup my almost new phone with the OS state so that if my phone dies at some point because of the new OS I want to restore it easily with some sort of what I call backup point.
Another question is is this even nessesary or will it also reset the OS, if I do a factory reset, to a further OS (in my case I update to Android 7, the phone crashes, I restore to factory mode and have my Android 6 again)or will it only reset to Android 7 through factory mode reset?
And if I need such restore point could one of you please give me an instruction how to do that.
Thank you for your patience to read and thank you for solving it in advance.
Best regards, n16h70wl aka Lukas Heuschneider

You would need TWRP to do a nandroid backup.

You can use SP flash tool to dump your rom. I don't know it works for you. If your android is rooted then you can backup your whole system via adb to your pc. You can also use custom recovery to get nandroid backup(system backup) of your android to your SD card. You need to flash custom recovery for your android.
There after you need to unroot your android and flash stock recovery again. If OTA update found your android modified then OTA update abort.
It's better to download your stock rom. If android update ruins your android then you can flash your stock rom in fastboot mode
If you update your android to Nougat and factory reset then it's not reset to again marshmallow. Factory reset only reset system and user data. So it's only reset your Nougat to factory state.

Thanks for your reply.
So I probably have to root my Android don't I?

Use SP flash tool to dump rom of your non rooted android in your pc.
You can root to get backup of your full system. But you want to unroot again because if OTA update found that your system is modified then OTA update abort. So don't root your android.
It's better to use SP flash tool to dump rom or download stock rom of your android and keep it in pc.
If update ruins your android then you can flash stock rom in fastboot mode to your non rooted android.
If it helped. Please thank me.

[Q] Is this even possible?? (custom rom build, stock recovery and unrooting)

Hi guys,
I've been asked to look into the possibility of flashing some Android tablets so that they have some extra apps included.
We all know that you can build a rom from a stock one, add the apk files to /data/apps or /system/apps, sign, package it up and then flash. However I'm looking for a more complete solution.
I need to get these tablets to a point where once I'm done, when you turn in on you get the out of the box experience, all counters have been reset, device in NOT rooted, the recovery partition restored so that the device will pass a warranty inspection.
in my mind the to do list looks something like this;
root device
flash recovery
backup device (just in case...)
dump rom (as i might have a new model that a stock rom download doesn't exist for yet!)
edit rom to include the 2 extra apps i need to install
flash the new rom
revert recovery to stock
reset all counters
un-root device
anyone know of any reason why this wont work?
I'll be honest I have been playing for a day and I can root, flash recovery, (can't dump yet so used stock rom from dl), add apps to /data/apps but I keep failing on the flash.
I also know i can revert the recovery and unroot.
Anyone got any tips? or any nugget of information that proofs I can't do this so I'm wasting my time?
thanks in advance guys.

[Q] URGENT HELP PLEASE-deleted system file

I have accidentally deleted a system file when I rooted my phone and was trying to delete a different file in my dell streak 5.
I don't know much about this as I am a newbie so can anyone please tell me how can I delete everything inside it and download, install it again. All I can do now is turn it on,off ,go to fast-boot mode and call people and receive calls.Thank you,it will be very helpful if u can help me on this.
You don't say what file it is you deleted, but it sounds like it was a file in the ROM itself. If you're successfully rooted, simply install the ROM again to restore the file. Don't wipe any data and your Streak should return to operating condition as if you never deleted the file.
Thanks

I don't know which one i have deleted. Phone starts only with dial pad. i can receive call and answer the call. other than that i can't access any other application.
Well, did you install the ROM again, as I recommended?
I tried

I tried it and it still went back to the same state. Its very difficult as I can only access the dialpad.and that's only after calling it when it starts up and shows its logo. I then have to turn on USB debugging . I followed a video on YouTube in which shows u how to flash a ROM by calling it.update.pkga and flashing it through recovery mode.
Restore your stock ROM and start over. Only this time, do not follow YouTube videos to try and root because they don't explain anything. There is information throughout both the Q&A forum as well as the sticky posts in Development that you might want to start reading.
After restoring your stock ROM, you need to do the following, in order:
Install ADB drivers on your PC, if you haven't already done so.
Install StreakMod Recovery.
Install a custom ROM such as PseudoCream, as custom ROMs are generally pre-rooted.
(Optional) Install a different baseband.
To make life easy when it comes to installing StreakMod or the baseband files, download MultiFlasher from the link in my signature. It provides the tools as well as the recovery and baseband images. It DOESN'T include ADB drivers, but those are available from links in Development.

If I remember correctly you have to do these steps after installing the safe trap.
1. create back up from stock rom
2. Create romslot 1
3. restore the back up on romslot 1
4. install the thor gapps rom on rom slot 1.
thor gapps need the stock rom first. that why you create back up and restore it somewhere else. thor gapps is NOT a AOSP room, it removes and modifies the stock rom.
I don't think you can format your stock rom but if you did, you have to wait for a AOSP rom.

If you could if you can get somebody to send you a backup of some type you can ADB push it to your Sd card in backup directory and restore it . What is your base firmware originally? If you can score a flashable copy of your base that would work also. Four instance the base Hasscode has over in the safestrap thread. (Old firmware) But to get ADB you need to uninstall the Microsoft USB drivers for your device and install the ADB drivers from the utility .94

You dont already have the toolkit from development?it has adb drivers try that first .does your device show at all? Maybe with like an explanation point on it and the yellow triangle? If it does open that device in your device manager in and uninstall the drivers. Then run the driver install part of the utility toolkit .94. I'm sorry but no I cannot give you step-by-step or I will not considering it is in these forums at least a dozon times but I'll give you a link to a thread that explains it over and over again but you must be able to comprehend what you are reading and follow directions explicitly it does work it has worked for people but sometimes it takes several attempts . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588608 remember but not just the first post has good information this is discussed all the way through these threads . And often pertain to different subjects . And if you don't think that you find what you need in this thread there are several several other threads in the general section and the troubleshooting section titled brick! Or please help! Or yada yada yada etc. and most will have to do with trying to get ADB back on a device.. For whatever reason. What ever you do do not go to factory recovery attempt a factory reset it will totally screw you. As long as you still have safestrap booting you have hope now you need to do what you did not do to begin with, and educate yourself thoroughly before moving forward with anything . All it will take is one more mistake on your part of the inability to completely read everything and understand everything and you will be calling Amazon for a replacement.. good luck why can't you restore a backup?
hallo
my english is bad, so its diffcult to understand everything. because this i ask for a step by step tutorial. this was my fault.
and is there a difference between the 13.3.2.4.X.X.X versions ? can i take any 13.3.2.4 back up ?

Yes. As long as long is it is of a stock system of the same firmware you are on. I am aware of how to do it how to give you a clean backup that would allow you to set it up but I am not on that firmware on any of my three HDX devices And then another idea you may go over to the safestrap thread and inquire about a ABD sideload procedure I did see that option and safestrap recovery but I do not know how it works. Oh and another idea I also know works because I advised it to another person and he did it it worked well for him in a similar situation. Download the original bin file for your firmware to your PC rename the .bin to .zip and download the newest flashable superSU ADB push to SD card then flash to stock slot. Firmware then supersu reboot, reinstall safestrap and redo OTA blocker. It also sounds like you really need to read through the safestrap thread and understand it more thoroughly I do not believe this would've happened if you had more of an understanding on how safestrap is to be used.

Didn't you read in a previous post a couple of post up do not factory reset at least until after you get a working OS and yes you can flash and Amazon bin file BUT safestrap does not flash kernel or bootloader so it will only flash the system partition and data partition and that is what you need. But you have to rename it from .bin to .zip and somehow get it on your device AND YES IT will overwrite any system modifications and root access that's why you must flash the super SU after you flash the firmware zip if you want root right away..that is

If you are still having trouble, go to the developer thread, and rather than posting, try reading and getting the HDX TOOLKIT .94 to work on your computer. That should get adb set up for you. Once that happens, the commands are easy.
$adb push [file location] /sdcard
It doesn't matter

Nabi Big Tab 20 Stock Rom Request.

Long story short I modded my stock rom and only made a backup after I removed a bunch of system apps I knew were safe. Well youtube stopped working and my children like to watch you tube and Nabi release an update to patch their system to fix the youtube issue but I can not flash due to missing system files. Looking for stock unupdated or even updated rom for the nabi big tab 20 and help would be great. TWRP is the only recovery that I am aware of for this tablet.
Thanks in Advanced!

Still Needing That Stock Rom?
I kinda did the same thing. So I just bought another Big Tab 20 to flash TWRP and backup the stock rom. I must mention at some point the Twrp Backups did not restore properly on the previous device. Dont know what happened. Im scared as hell to do this because it seems like theres no turning back to stock and this one cost me a cool $100.
Where I may find the stock rom or TWRP backup for this tablet?
I bricked this, just doing root and rename launcher and chrome apk in system folder, after this I get a bootloop.
And I need pinout a nabi connector, don`t have a usb cable..
Bringing this back from the DEAD
Hello,
I just got this Nabi BIG TAB HD - Model on device is bgtab-nv20a.
I am able to access recovery and select to wipe it, however when booting into Android it will ask for you to connect to the internet, regardless if you do it or not, a message will appear not allowing me to proceed, the error will be that it cannot connect to the FUHU server or that it cannot perform update and therefore cannot continue.
I am looking for either a way of rooting and flashing a custom ROM or simply get it to boot with the already installed Android system.

H850 rooted - OTA upgrade can't decrypt? (noob here)

I bought an LG G5 H850 3 months ago, and following the tutorial of this forum I unlocked, installed TWR and rooted the device without problems... I kept the TWR boot after this.
Note: I configured my phone to have a pattern code when boot in security options
Yesterday I received the OTA (I think it is called that) Android Update to Nouget from the inbuild update service...
I didn't know if I could install it or not in my rooted phone, but I tried...
I download the 1.6GB update, and try to install it. But instead of upgrading it booted to the TWR and asked for a pattern. I tried mine, but it said it "couldn't decrypt the data" so I think it is not THAT pattern.
After that I just cancel, and ask me to enable or not write access. Whatever option I choose, it just return me to TWR main menu, where I can just reboot and return to my 6.x Android... (not upgraded)
I tried also disabling the pattern or chaging to password unlock, but it only changed the pattern question in the TWR to a password question (again, no luck bypssing it with my new password)
As you can guess, I have no much idea about Android and TWR... But I think I must be something terribly wrong here... I don't remember having encrypt the data or decrypting it before.
Is it possible to upgrade to Nouget with the OTA upgrade in a rooted H850 with TWR? If not, is there any way to upgrade to the new Android version without wiping my data? (and if possible without losing root?)
Android is encrypted by default since Marshmallow or even Lollipop. You can turn off the encryption by wiping the data in TWRP (note: it will erase all the data from your internal storage, essentially making it a factory reset). If you want to just update to Nougat use LG UP to flash the KDZ (note: use upgrade mode). Relevant guides are available on the forum.
Sidenote: check your spelling. :V It's TWRP and Nougat, not TWR and Nouget.

Upgrade mode doesn't. Note that there's always a chance that something will go wrong, so I'd recommend a backup.

Thanks!. I know, I always do a backup.
Last question, do I lose TWRP or root with the LG UP? If so, is there a method for rooting it again with Nougat?

You'll most likely lose both. You can install recovery and root normally after upgrading.
