So I've had this problem for a very long while, in that I get absolutely no Facebook notifications! Well, save for some random notifications for messages, and often times I don't really have any new messages, or the app isn't able to fetch them from the server. Tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app, clearing its data... this was on Froyo. Installed Gingerbread, installed the Facebook app from the Market, and still no notifications!
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
The app sucks its not the phone

Well I guess it's not the phone but when I first got it, notifications came without any issues. And suddenly they stopped. :/

That's a bug in Facebook apps, sometimes you receive notification and sometimes you don't. Try other Facebook apps like friend-caster- they have an option to post notification to gmail.

Same problem
I had the same problem a while back, after much installing and uninstalling and double checking the notifications from my laptop and phone, I concluded that the problem was really the app, shows how buggy apps can be. I've been getting message notifications from the app (since I was offline in chat) but the messages were never shown under "Messages" nor in "Chat". Notifications on the other hand most of the time work properly. There were some instances on the previous updates that it did update, meaning there was a number there in a red circle, but when I opened my notifications, no actual new updates were there, although it appeared on my browser.

I don't know any Java, so I can only assist, or cheer for whoever starts writing one.
I have no idea what's going on, and its extremely aggravating. I never use Facebook other than for when notifications show up, each of then pictures are taken of stats on a brand new s3 with a brand new AOKP ROM, and I have not even opened Facebook after a full battery charge and a reboot, and it still demolishes my battery.
I need help here, its driving me up the wall

Try it the old fashioned way
Delete Facebook and reinstall it. I had the same problem with Google Maps once and it worked that way.
Reinstalled and same behavior.

If he uses Greenifiy he won't receive any notifications from Facebook because the App will be hibernated.
That's right, Facebook will only sync when you open it, this is what fast Facebook does (which is very popular as it's a lightweight ver different version). Facebook is a big hogger but if you want instant updates, guess you'll have to put up with it. You could try clearing data, running sdmaid on a regular basis and clearing Facebook files, that might help.

Hello All,
I'm pretty experienced with Android and flashing new software and all that, but I am at my wits end this time. Last week I installed a ROM on my Sprint HTC One M7 that had hangouts as the default SMS app. I hate hangouts, so I installed a third party app. I only ended up having that ROM installed for a day or two before flashing a new one, and suddenly I couldn't receive SMS. I tried tons of things before finally ending up running the RUU to flash back to stock. Since hangouts is in the stock ROM, as soon as it booted, all of my texts popped up right there in hangouts, where they had been being diverted the whole time, despite SMS being turned off in Hangouts.
This time, I updated Hangouts, toggled SMS on and then off again, but all of my incoming texts were still going to Hangouts and not appearing in my stock SMS app at all. Finally, I flashed an updated stock rooted ROM, and no matter what I try, I cannot get Hangouts to stop handling my incoming texts. This is absolutely infuriating, because as aforementioned, I'd rather lobotomize myself with a chopstick than use Hangouts. Has anyone else encountered this? Please help me!
Thanks!

Go into the application manager, find Hangouts, and clear defaults. If you don't use it for anything else, you can always disable/delete it.

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately this was one of the first things that I tried and it did not work. Hangouts currently has no defaults set and is disabled on my phone. There was a 48 hour period where Hangouts wasn't even installed on my phone but it was still handling incoming texts.

I agree! I wouldn't be here if I wasn't stumped. I had something similar happen with Google voice back on ICS when I had an SGS2, but eventually I was able to disable it. This time I am at a loss for real.

Duplicate installation, perhaps? I had this weird thing going on the other day where Titanium did an automatic restore after flashing a batch install of backups, and I had 2 iterations of Weather Bug (different versions). There have also been times where certain sideloaded apps had 2 iterations installed.
Try using a root file explorer and searching for for Hangouts. Maybe there's an .apk somewhere that still loads up even though it's not "installed" anymore.

Gonna check right now just to rule it out but I don't have high hopes since I did a full wipe before installing the Lollipop ROM that didn't contain Hangouts at all. I appreciate the continued suggestions though.

No Gapps packages, no batch restores? Maybe Google is doing it automatically when you first activate the phone. You're given the option to backup/restore your account, and if you do, the phone will start downloading apps that you had installed before.

Hmmmmm, that's one thing I did not think about, is using the Google restore feature when fresh installing. I did flash GAapps with the Lollipop Build but immediately disabled Hangouts. I wonder if maybe the setting isn't being applied "behind the scenes" when I flash a new ROM and allow Google to automatically restore settings. I'll have to play with this a bit. Thanks again.

That could be it. Installed, then disabled, then installed again automatically. If the restore is coming from a different source from Play Store, it's possible it's not making the same checks for existing installations, giving you a duplicate.

Man, I am really about to pull my hair out with this whole thing. I just installed a new ROM deleted Hangouts from system/app using root explorer after denying the auto-restore for Google and I still couldn't receive texts. Rebooted. Sent myself a few more test texts before re-installing hangouts and lo and behold, Hangouts had been receiving the texts even while not installed on any android device that I own. If Hangouts was a building, I would have looted it and burned it to the ground about an hour ago.

I was wondering if you had any luck finding what causes all the text to go to hangouts. I can receive MMS through messenger but not SMS. I thought I was the only person with this annoying problem. I was about to order another device but there has to be a solution to this problem.

Dray,
I did eventually solve it, though the problem persisted even after RUU. It turns out that the issue was with Google Voice. I don't use Google Voice, but I flashed a ROM that had SMS turned on in Google Voice by default. When I flashed a new ROM, sms was still being handled by Google Voice despite neither Voice nor Hangouts being installed on my phone. You should go into settings in Google Voice and make sure sms is turned off. If the app is not installed on your phone, download it and make sure it is turned off anyway, because as aforementioned it was affecting my sms even though Google Voice wasn't even installed. This should solve it.

Yes there is. Make sure you have updated to the latest ROM (EU is B380)
1 - Backup all your stuff with Huawei native app
2 - Factory reset and let it boot
3 - Setup your google account and nothing more. Also don´t restore any apps yet.
4 - Test incoming calls when screen is off.
5 - Setup Huawei account
7 - Install Skype and it will restore itself call and chat history
8 - Test Skype (I have problems with it but I have 2 additional devices with the same account at the same time that rings at the same time so it might be just me)
9- Install fresh remaining communications apps like Whatsapp. From my experience when you restore from backup they will bug the notifications, so it´s better a fresh install while just restoring the chat history from backup.
10 - Setup maximum priority for communication apps notification
11 - If you feel it´s necessary you can also set those apps not to be closed and be automatically launched at startup.

No,
just open Telephon Manager
Enable Notification Manager and then check the config
you also have to allow the apps in autostart manager
and protect them

It's probably cuz these are third party apps
It's from Play Store.
I also tried with b170 and b360 update. I dont have the notification problem in my Honor 7 Indian Version..
Most notification problems comes from restoring those apps from backup.
If you just install a fresh app after factory reset and then ONLY restore app history (if needed as Skype doesnt need) you shouldnt get any notification problem.
Well phone is new, there is no any backup. I tried factory reset, same problem. I am waiting 14 days for huawei unlock code, i will root phone and then move apps from data/app to system/app, that should solve the problem. I am on EMUI 4.0.1 so that's all with marshmallow, everything else is working ok.
Hi,
I just got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 recently and am having problems with push notifications for apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, LINE and so on. I have spent hours trying all the suggestions out there multiple times as to how to fix it but it still doesn't work. This includes:
1: Disable power saving mode.
2: Disable 'destroy activity' function.
3: Check Notification settings
4: Setup notifications for each App in settings.
5: Ensure app has notifications enabled.
6: Enable Autostart
7: Disable data saver and enable dual data on all apps.
8: Commit apps to memory.
9: Customise power saving settings.
Even after doing all this, I am still unable to receive messages and calls from apps in real time. I use another phone of mine to call myself literally 5 seconds after closing the app and still my Xiaomi phone does not register the call until I manually open the app and get a missed call.
Can someone please help me with this. Thanks.
I enabled Autostart for all the messaging apps and apps i need to run in the background and everything is working great for me.
I get calls from whatsapp all the time and everything working great.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I have literally every single app enabled for Autostart just in case but still don't receive anything until I open the app manually. Tried reinstalling the apps and rebooting multiple times too.
With what apps you are having this problem? Me for example I don't have any problem with whatsapp but with Skype sometimes I don't get notifications because miui kills the process in the background which is very annoying.
I hope xiaomi will fix it in miui 9 (if we'll ever get this update on our rn4 anyway).

It works sometimes for Whatsapp and LINE but only sometimes, which doesn't make any sense. I'll get a notification for a message normally once and then won't get anything for awhile and be bombarded with missed messages when I open the app manually again. Doesn't seem to ever work for Gmail or Facebook messenger.
