I am running dcd 2.3.2 with radio 3.42.30. Everything was working great until late last week... my Internet Sharing suddenly stopped working. When I say 'stopped working' I mean that it is no longer allowing me to connect via USB to my PC to get internet access. The PC does see it and ActiveSync pops up and when I start Internet Sharing it appears to work, even providing a 192.168.0.10x IP address to the computer. However, it never actually gets 'out' from the phone. On my friend's Vista machine, the little globe never appears on the network icon in the system tray. I tried a hard reset, a couple times, without success. I even pulled the battery for a while to see if that would help. Tried different USB cables. Tried changing the IP from mobile preferred to mobile only. My friend's mogul flashed the same is working, mine just stopped. Any thoughts?
Edit: PIE works until I establish Internet Sharing. Internet Sharing says connected but I don't get out to the internet and PIE will not work giving some message about "Page can not be found" until I disconnect from Internet Sharing.
I have persevered through the issue and have found a solution. I assumed the problem was likely DNS related because I was connecting fine, it was simply not showing as on the ‘Internet’ in Windows Vista. Once I connected this way with my phone, I was unable to browse even using PIE as I would get an error indicating the page could not be found. A little searching and I came across this DNS ‘speed fix’ post over at ppcgeeks.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=18435
I followed the instructions to change the DNS server entries and I was then able to tether just fine. So apparently, DNS was the culprit. However, I am wondering now what my default DNS servers were. I don’t see anything other than 192.168.0.1 on my PC when I check ipconfig information. Is there a utility that I can load on the phone to see what DNS servers I am getting from Sprint?
I would like to see what my friend who is using Sprint and not having a problem is getting also. If it is a Sprint DNS issue, maybe I should let them know about it and what the specific DNS server(s) are that are affected.
Hey guys,
I have been keeping my eyes out for the tun.ko module to come out in one of the kernels, and it finally did in the 1.76 GHz kernel. I had to reinstall VPN connections after flashing the kernel, and then VPN connections would tell me that my VPN was connected properly. However, I can't get data to pass through the VPN. No pings to the remote end, no RDP, nothing.
Anybody else get this working?
Thanks,
Seth
I thought I set up my VPN wrong >_> Well that explains it! Thanks! Same issue. I have however been able to see my phone in my router, though I can't do anything with it there in or out.
This sounds like the same issue I was having with openvpn (I assume that's what you're referring to since you're talking about the tun module). I'm running Das BAMF 1.3.2, and tun is already built into the kernel. I'm having the same problem. The VPN connects, no errors at all, even ran it in the terminal so I could see all of OpenVPN's connection output. But data is not routed through the tunnel. WhatIsMyIP still reports my Verizon IP address.
Now, on two occasions I have had success. I was able to connect and disconnect my VPN all I wanted and everything worked. However this only lasted for the current phone 'life cycle', ie it failed again after the next reboot. I can't find a pattern or anything, it seems that it will randomly work after a reboot, but not that often... 1 out of 10 maybe? I didn't waste my time trying to nail down a ghost.
I think I solved the OpenVPN problem. There's an option in OpenVPN settings called 'Fix HTC Routes'. If you check it, you can get the link to view the issue tracker. Essentially it deletes a few routing tables after OpenVPN starts up. For some reason, it doesn't seem to work on the Thunderbolt. Perhaps that option is using a deprecated script command (ip ru del route)? Whatever the reason, the fix is simple. After connecting to OpenVPN, open a terminal and issue the following commands:
Code:
ip ru del table gprs
ip ru del table wifi
Ignore any errors you might get if the routing table doesn't exist. I don't think you need SU, and you can use GScript Lite to make the process easier on you.
I'll give this a shot with VPN Connections when I get a chance and report back. If anybody else has any success, please post here.
I have had better success, but it's not right yet for me. I am able to get some data to flow using RDP, Telnet, etc., but nothing actually works completely right.
When telnetting into routers, I am not able to actually authenticate. however, I CAN finally see the prompts.
When using RDP, it doesn't time out any more, but I don't get any video data back to my phone's screen. No login page, etc.
Those two commands also seem to time out eventually. I need to reenter them to get the data flowing again, it seems.
Anybody else have better results?
Seth
Well, without knowing which VPN you're using, I can't say. But it does seem to work with openvpn and the OpenVPN Settings market app (I have my own install of openvpn, so I don't use the related OpenVPN Installer app).
The routing tables gprs/wifi are automatically recreated when those connections are re-established. Meaning, if you are on VPN via wifi, and wifi disconnects/reconnects, then the wifi routing table is recreated. The same goes for gprs if you lose connection and it is reestablished. I don't know what the system might try to do using the built in VPN connections.
Sorry about that, the lack of info wasn't very helpful.
I'm trying to connect to my Cisco VPN. We are using group authentication as well as user authentication. The outside device is a 2811 router, and if there are any other specifics that might help, I'd be happy to provide it.
Thanks,
Seth
I've only had the phone a few hours but I'm at a university that requires DHCP registrations, and my LTEvo will not redirect to the registration page. I've tried this through both the stock browser and Chrome, tried redirects, manually typing in the URL, and even connecting to it through 3G, logging in and then trying to register. Is anyone having similar issues at other universities/coffee shops that require a registration or redirect? I verified that I have a valid, unregistered IP on the network.
Issue resolved after installing viperROM. If anyone can address the issue on the stock ROM, this post could be helpful!
I'm currently having this problem at work (hospital). Its been working fine since I got the phone, but today it wont redirect.
My co-workers GNex and BB works though
I figured it out. When 'Best Wi-fi Performance' is checked, I'm actually unable to pull any connection from the university. Disabling it restores connectivity. I'll look into it with the wireless team here.
Same issue with me test at Arby's and McDonalds free Wifi Hotspots.
No Redirect, no web.
Best Performance *IS NOT* checked on mine as it has cause issues for me else where.
So i noticed that my Z5C doesnt connect to WiFi connections automatically. If i step out of my home, and come back, the WiFi doesn't connect back on its own, unless i unlock the device or start to operate it normally. Same about my Office WIFI. But once connected, its all ok. Are any of you guys facing the same issue. I have heard of Lollipop WIFI problems before. Is it common? Looks bit annoying that i have to unlock it always just to get it connected.

I have the same problem. I've even posted on the support forum: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z5-Z5-Compact-Z5-Premium/Wifi-Issue/td-p/1055589

so are they mentioning to use the PC Companion to reset the phone? did u try it
Not yet. I suspect it will make no difference though. Maybe post in on the sony forum so they are aware multiple people have the same bug?
I just activated always scanning option under the Advanced wifi settings. Didn't make any difference. This isn't good. Yeah ill do that.

i did use an app called the WIFI connection manager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roamingsoft.manager&hl=en
so it seems to have an option called WiFi fix, and different types of fixing are there- Standard fix which erases all saved WIFI's, the simple fix which doesnt erase but does some correction, and advanced fix which requires root. I went to try the simple fix and then checked for WIFI issues. Steped out of the office twice and when i came back, it got automatically connected. Have to check the home WIFI later. You should try as well.

i did a hard reset for the z5c, and still the problem persists. I want to know if this issue is there for everyone, or is it just few.
i also have problem with WIFI with Z5c which i never had with 3c. It does not connect to some wireless modems.

My issue is it doesnt auto connect by itself, unless i interact with the phone, like simply unlocking it. Once connected, it stays connected even when it sleeps. But if i step out of the area and come back, we think its automatically connected. But it doesn't.
same issue here with E6683 on 6.0
I downloaded the app suggested for the WiFi fix and I will try it and let you know the outcome.
In case that does not work.
I had a similar issue with my Z5c After the marshmallow upgrade at home and with my work network. Apparently there is a new DHCP Client in Marshmallow which actually respects TLS Standards. More on this here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=188867
At home upgrading my router fixed it, but the IT at work is still working on the issue...
TLDR; Marshmallow has a new DHCP Client, you can revert to Android 5.1 DHCP Client:
- Settings -> Developer Options -> "Use Legacy DHCP Client" and Reboot.
This fixed the issues for me.

Confirming this fixed the issue for me as well.
The solution given by adendum worked for me as well.
Thanks.
Solved!
It helped me as well. Thanks a bunch! I'll spread the word on the Sony forum.
Thanks!
Oh wow - thank you, thank you, thank you! Just applied this fix for my Xperia 3C on Android 6.0 which was being super flakey staying on WiFi at work but was working just fine at home. I was going crazy thinking this was me so glad there is an easy workaround.

Hey everyone, I wanted to put together a thread focusing on wifi issues of different variety and what we can do to potentially fix or workaround the main issues
I personally have been working on a solution for the discrepancy that disallows me to connect to my enterprise wifi at work, lollipop and previous versions connect just fine. So far ive found this issue. May not be easiest nor even possible for some of the issues some of us are having, but i think its worth working towards solutions.

What wifi issues? You might need nrw router.
I was able to connect via guest, then they had lock it due to bandwidth consumption. I have password since im a supervisor and my other phone (5.1.1) connects just fine. The nexus says saved, but when i click connect nothing, doesnt say obtaining ip or authenticating. Credentials are correct and connected before to same network without lock

Does your nexus connect fine to other wireless networks? How can you blame it on the device instead of going and fixing your work network settings instead? There are no wifi issues. Call an IT guy and he will fix your router.

Interesting, I just read through a lot (more than I can believe) of that issue log. It sounds like its technically not a Google/Android 6.0 problem even though the problem arose with the upgrade to 6.0. Have you considered doing what Nick suggested and reaching out to your enterprise IT administrators at work to see if they can or plan to do the necessary updates?

Yeah it connects to others but all devices lollipop and older including iphone and blackberry connect fine. And its known that android m has issues connecting to some wifi that works fine with all other devices. If you do a quick search youll see basically all 6.0 devices (nexus 6, etc) have same issues once updated to 6.0 (hit or miss depends on network they try to connect to, but same story just fine before update). The IT dept are not going to change settings on their network that works fine with 99.9% devices that people have there, since im only one so far with a 6.0 device (IT request MAC address when you get pass) it obviously is some sort of security policy within the os or something of that nature

Yeah, they are hesitant to change what works for almost everyone that connects to it. Also i think itd be a good thing to work on since most IT admin wont change for the very few with newer devices
On a side note i do feel like its more or less a cop out of them to claim its not 6.0 fault because when push comes to shove it works fine but once 6.0 it doesn't and nothing changed on the network
When I had my Nexus 5X, I had issues connecting to WiFi at home until I used the Network Settings Reset option under Settings > Backup and Reset. I think this issue came from the restore of settings during initial setup. Possibly worth a try.
Still, the issue I'm running into now is that my 6P only connects to one of the two routers at home. I have both broadcasting the same SSID though they're different brands and one's an older G router. On my Moto X running 5.1, the phone would connect to the strongest signal. Seems the 6P will only connect to one and never connect to the other. I've had the phone "forget" that one and connected to the other and then it refused to connect to the original. Very odd.
My point in saying this is that I wonder if there's a similar issue occurring in the OP's office. Though the same SSID is being broadcast, its as if the phone remembers the MAC address of the specific router it originally connected to and refuses to connect to any others. Just a thought.

Have you tried turning on developer options, scroll down and turn on legacy dhcp client under networking.
Yeah, ive tried that also
the fix in this thread might work, if you're rooted.

Just tried and sadly it didnt work
Tell the IT dept to upgrade their radius auth
I'm also having WiFi connection issues with eduroam (an often used protocol in UK universities) amongst other including my home dual band ac network. It locks out and can only be resolved by a reboot, which then takes 30-60 seconds to power off. Not normal or 'just an admin' issue. It seems to be software related as it is not constant nor predictable (ie it's not in certain areas and a reboot always reconnects). I'm unconvinced by the 'speak to your network admin' argument as it is neither useful or realistic and incompatible on my current patterns of usage or the issues being reported more widely.
My 6p works fine on my wi-fi router at home, but when I go over to my son's house, I have to go into Advanced Wi-Fi options and change the frequency band from automatic to 2.4 GHz only. Then I have to cycle my wi-fi off and back on. Then it will work on his router. Otherwise, it with keep trying to connect and fail every time.
Rob
Yeah, these are the issues (including the issue im having) that im talking about. Theres clearly issues with wifi on 6.0. Its not an issue with the hardware, nor is the solution "buy a new router" or "must be the settings on your companys network" granted most people can connect everywhere they've tried but if they tried where we cant connect or have issues they'd have same problem. Im thinking its a problem due to security policies or something along those lines but we should be able to alter, remove, or opt out of them at our own risk. Just thinking out loud.
Which build are you on? Mine ends in k. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3248499
