[Guide] Notification and the "Bell" - Simple - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello XDAers,
This is a very simple "workaround" to see your notification banners without having to tap the bell icon.
I don't know how many times I have overlooked this myself, and I know how extremely annoying it is, there is a toggle that allows us to view the banners without having to tap the bell.
THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT KNOW OF THE OPTION BEING IN SETTINGS, like me.
So let's start! This take approximately 30 seconds to take care of.
Open the Settings Application
Navigate to the Notifications pane
Select "Show on the lock screen"
Check Notification preferred
This does not remove the bell, but eliminates the extra step of having to click it to view the banners if you just want to see what is notifying you.
Simple and sweet correct?

[Q] How to stop text messages from appearing on unlock screen?

Is there a way to help prevent any potential domestic issues with a random text from an ex, or other message that you might not want seen by disabling text message notifications for appearing on the unlock screen?
I don't mind the little notification in the task bar thing, but not liking the large "Hey I Love You" appearing out of the blue from a past lover while the phone is out on the counter.
thats stupid tbh you shouldnt have to hide that **** from ur current 'lover' if you actually love them, theyll understand.

Thanks for the helpful response....
Do you mean when the text message is displayed at the top in the notifications bar? Or, I know on certain versions of Sense a large window pops up in the middle of the screen showing the text. I know you can turn off the second, in security or privacy or something similar to that (If this is it, and you can't find it I'll restore my Sense ROM and find it exactly). I'm not sure about the first, other than disabling notifications completely or changing to a different messaging app.
The top one in notifications bar is fine, that can be disabled in the message settings. Its the large window with the contact name and full text message appearing...must be tied in to sense. I'll see what else I can find, but appreciate your help!
I went and found it specifically Menu > Settings > Privacy. Uncheck the first box.

You're welcome!

Screen turns on when receiving text

Hi everyone I was wondering if there is a way to disable the screen from coming on every time I get a text message?
No there isn't. It's very annoying. Hopefully they change that. At least they allow us to remove the text preview from the lockscreen.
That is just stupid. If they wanted to copy the Iphone they could have at least given us the option to not have the screen come on.
If you are rooted, you can use Xposed to show that option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956 (under applications, "Show screen on toggle"), then you can go to the messaging app and turn it off.

Enable launching notifications from lock screen?

This seems like an obvious feature? but I guess its not? I am new to Android, so any help would be apperciated.
Currently, if you get a notification (i.e. whatsapp) on the lockscreen you cannot launch this notification or reply to them by clicking on them. If you swipe down, it will launch the notification center, if you launch right or left it might dismess it. But no where does it actually open the app it self to reply or see the notification.
Is there anyway around it?
Tap it once and unlock the phone.

[Q] Looking for a Notification Mod

I'm looking for a notification mod that would allow me to maintain the look of the lockscreen when I switch my phone on (Note 4 910f).
I've just updated to Lp 5.01 using this custom ROM and noticed the clock/weather/user info etc display is different when the phone is first switched to when it has been unlocked and I return to the lockscreen.
Please see the attachment.
The image on the left is from when I switch it on, and I see the full clock/weather display.
And the image on the right, shows the lockscreen after it's been unlooked and I return to the lockscreen, but the clock has been compressed, there's no weather, pedometer, user info etc.
I still want to receive email/text type notifications on the lockscreen and I still want status bar notifications for apps (like for example AF+ Firewall in this case).
I've tried to disable AF+ Firewall's notifications, but it disables them all (status bar and notification panel) by using "Settings -> Sounds and Notifications -> Application Notifications"
I just need something that displays notifications underneath the full sized clock.
Thank you for any help.

I don't know if this helps you: I use "lock screen clock mods" to alter the clock, then I prevent the notifications from showing on the lockscreen to then show them in "nils" (notifications on lockscreen) instead. This is what it looks like on both the locked and the unlocked lockscreen:http://imgur.com/UFFcdHg
Edit: I don't know is the nils part is necessary, it just looks best for me.

Thank you for the reply and help
I've just tried "lock screen clock mods", but whatever changes I make to the clock, it doesn't alter anything when I apply it (also rebooting).
I'm not sure what you mean by "nils", Is that altering a value to zero somewhere in the code?
I've also tried "NotifyClean", but that doesn't stop any notifications on the lock screen, but does when the phone is in use.

I disabled the notifications completely in the rom: "Settings -> notifications and sounds -> when screen is locked". They don't show on my (stock Sony) lock screen even when unlocked. With Nils I mean this app and I don't know why the mods don't work for you.

Yes, I know those settings.
I've just tried "Nils". It sort of works.
If I disable a specific apps in "Settings -> notifications and sounds -> when screen is locked", I loose the icon in the status bar, which I want to keep.
If I don't disable it, when on the lock screen, I get a notification at the top of the screen and a repeat in Nils.
I think something needs fixing in Lp, to do want I want it to do.
I think I need to go back to KK or wait for Lp 5.1.1. or M.

How do I turn on notifications for only selected apps?

Just got my new V30. I have a couple hundred apps on it but want notifications from only maybe a half dozen. On my S7, I could bring up the list of applications, each with a checkbox (or maybe it was a toggle) for each and select All On or All Off and then change the few I needed.
On the V30, it appears all apps are On by default, and I have to go to the Sound & Notifications page, select Apps, and then go into each one and turn it off. Is that correct? No way to turn them all off at once and then manually turn on just the ones I want?
Thanks.

as far as i know, on v30 you must set up one by one... CMIIW
Another option is to long press on the notification (when you swipe down to view the offending app that just pinged you), and select "Show Notifications Silently" or "Block All Notifications." At least this way, you're only wasting your time cutting off the ones that are actually annoying you.
