How to make phone appear to others to be switched off? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I was wondering if there is an app or method that can enable me to make my phone as appear to others that ring me as being switched off? There is nothing more frustrating when I am trying to study than the times when I hear my phone ringing and I am forced to stop what I am doing to answer my friends phonecalls. Even if I ignore the calls, I feel obligated to call back and there is always the possibility that the person will call again which really puts me off my work. Having said that, I need to have my phone switched on to receive calls in order to organize car journeys so turning it off is not an option. Is there anything I can do?

You can use the built in 'Do not disturb' in Android. No other app needed.

Thanks for the reply! Would this make my phone calls go to voicemail instantly?

Airplane mode is perfect.

restricted calls... anyway to do this

First, WITHOUT USING ANY 3RD PARTY APPS
If someone calls from a blocked/restricted number, is there any function in the Titan that would allow me to set it to not ring (or to only vibrate, or have a special ringer for only restricted calls)? I tried making a contact called restricted, but that didnt work.
Second, if the above is not possible, what are some 3rd party apps that I might try? I never pick up blocked calls, and I dont even want to hear it ring.
It's not exactly a 3rd party application, more like a service; check out www.youmail.com . If somebody with a blocked number calls me, it says "the number you are calling does not take calss from unidentified callers, please hang up and reveal your number."

Ummm.... There has to be a million. Ok not that many but seriously There are even some that are developed on XDA! I could find that one though ;c(
Here is one that is pretty popular. Im sure others will chime in with there favorites too.

I could swear I had done this in the past.... But I cant figure it out now.
You can try Ringo... it might do the trick...

If you dont want to hear it ring... I recommend SPB Phone Suite...
It has a blacklist feature to ignore calls.. ignore and never ring.
Also it has a great today plugin for showing your vmail, unread messages.. etc (I recommend turning off the big buttons though.. the default look is ugly IMHO)
And my favorite feature, you can set the phone to vibrate, or silent for a period of time (5 mins, 15mins, 30 mins.. etc) This is a life saver since I often need to silence my phone for meetings, and then a few hours later I realize... I have 20 missed calls because I never set it back.
### Edit ###
I just set SPB Phone suite to blacklist "Private" calls.
I then blocked caller ID and called from my home phone... Nothing.. no ring, no flash, the phone ignored it.
It did ring on the callers end the normal number of rings before going to vmail... I.E. it didn't go right to vmail like when you hit ignore.
Superb. SPB Phone Suite does exactly what I want with regards to calls from blocked numbers.
Thanks!

This site is very slick. Thank you for sharing it.
To test ignoring calls I added my desk phone number to the block list. I called it up, my phone woke up, but never rang and didn't give a notice of a missed call. My desk phone was greeted with the message I left it on youmail.com which happened to be the default smart greeting. Very very cool to have this feature without installing a thing on my phone.

App for filtering calls while phone is on silent ?

Hi,
I remember seeing an app a couple of months ago that, when set, would let you filter incoming calls while your phone is on silent, the problem is that i have no idea what the app is called and have tried searching with no luck.
Now what i mean is this:
If i put my friends number in the settings of the app and he calls me while my phone is on silent he will recieve an automated SMS from my phone saying that my phone is on silent but if it's an emergency that he should call me again and if they do call me again within a certain period of time the app makes the phone ring normally instead of silencing the call.
Anyway, i have no idea what it's called and would really appreciate any help in finding it
EDIT: Never mind, found it, it's called Dindy

Not getting missed calls?

Hey guys,
I'm with Vodafone (Australia) and lately I've been working in my garage a fair bit where I don't have reception. During this time numerous people have called me, however I don't receive any notifications of missed calls at all. And when I go into phone log it doesn't show any call logs.
Is this a setting on the phone or should I contact Vodafone to get this sorted?
Cheers
Good question Jonno. I'm also with Voda & honestly couldn't remember if this feature was working properly or not as I haven't missed a call for ages (people know not to call me at unsociable hours when I have the phone switched off ).
Soooo...I plonked my mobile broadband sim into my Nokia backup phone, turned my SGS2 to flight mode (to mimic not having coverage), called it from the Nokia & let it ring half a doz times then hung up.
Switched the SGS2's radio back on & haven't received a missed call notification (it's been almost 5 minutes). I've searched high & low thru my call settings & can't find anything that would turn such a feature on/off so I'm betting it's a network related thing. I'll update this post if the missed call notification comes thru at any stage tonight.
Yeah I've never got any missed call notifications with the phone. I have people trying to get on to me regarding some recent job applications so it's not very useful if I miss their calls and don't know who to call back!
Might try calling Voda tomorrow to see if they know anything about it...
Jonno...The thick plottens
I was ferreting around in the dialer/call settings & had a look at the call forwarding settings. Basically, forward when busy/unanswered/unreachable is set to that Voda number people who try to call you get when you don't answer & it asks whether you want Voda's "call catcher" to txt the person you're try to call to let them know they missed your call (with the number to call back on).
When I try to disable this feature on any of busy/unanswered/unreachable it tells me the network doesn't allow the feature to be turned off. So it seems Voda thinks their way of people being able to notify you by txt when you miss their call is the best way (only way by the looks of it) for this situation to be handled.
So I'd say people obviously haven't been choosing the option to send you a notification txt (via Voda's call catcher) and have simply been hanging up when they've been unable to reach you.
I guess the only way to get around this is to tell people to use the send notification txt option or to simply send you a txt themselves to say they tried to call & couldn't get you.
Unless you want to have fun calling Voda's uber helpful support ?

Is there a way to send all calls to VM?

I want to basically put the phone into airplane mode, whilst keeping all those services active. Optimally, i would like to see the calls coming in, but have them automatically sent into VM. So it would appear to the user on the other end that the phone is off, or that i have no service currently.
I am on ATT in US

In Settings, - Call Settings - Call Forwarding, you should be able to enable Always Forward and just use the same phone number that shows up for the other settings, (busy, no answer, etc), although I'm not sure you would be able to see the calls coming in.
Mr. Number. Very versatile app. I use it to block everyone who isn't in my contacts.

I am really liking this Mr. Number app. i haven't played with the sending calls to VM, but the caller ID feature alone has been great!

[Q] Remove call forwarding symbol?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of the call forwarding symbol in the upper left hand corner of the watch face on a standalone device. I have tried to go under the call menu and turn it off but it won't let me uncheck on. I'm trying my best to not do a reset since I won't be able to activate apps again. Thanks in advance!
I don't think it is possible. The symbol is used to remind you that call forwarding is active. The consequences for leaving call forwarding on and forgetting to turn it off could cost you a lot of money and you might miss important calls you were expecting on your phone.
Personally it's a good feature - though granted it could be a bit smaller.
