Hello,
I have a New AT&T SGS-2. I am trying to set a Song or track from a CD that I have on my SD Card. I migrated from a Atrix and on the Atrix it allowed you to Touch Hold the Track or Song and then asked if you wanted to set it as a default ring tone. Obviouslly it wont allow you to do that. I spent some time on Chat with Samsung and didnt get anywhere-
It works great with individual Contacts, it allows you to go straight to "MyFiles" and pick the song without a Problem. But its a pain with Ringtones.
Also How do you add Notification Sounds as well, for instance, I have several Sounds from Jeff Dunham's Achmed, Or some "Gong Sounds" sounds from Blackberry, which I like using for Email or SMS- Can you add additional sounds to Notifications?
Would really appreciate some help. The Display is Drop Dead Gorgeous, Just suffering from Atrix Toxicity at this point.
Thank you in advance
The simple answer, without going into too much technical detail is as follows:
* rip the desired track from the CD to an MP3 file
* [optional] edit the MP3 so that you have the bit you want as a ringtone
* place the [edited] MP3 on your device under /sdcard/ringtones
* select the ringtone from the regular Settings interface
Thank you for the reply.... I want to play the Whole track, not "Just" make it into a ringtone. I got a tweet from a friend out west. He has the International Version and has no problem doing so. He said AT&T blocked it, thats why I cant do it. With the International one you touch hold the music track, it asks if you want to assign it as a default ring tone and Voila. AT&T's Days are numbered with me. I am really PO'd but good because of all the issues they have caused me.
I hope someone with the AT&T version will figure this out and let me know how to do it.
Thank you1
Unfortunately it seems a bit hopeless for setting music as ringtone. Att strikes again. I would suggest getting astro file browser and copying your music file to the folder specified above. Unless a Dev somehow releases a patch for the stock Tom our best bet is to wait for a custom rom. There was an app called ringdroid. Ill post back with my results

Would you try something for me, I just got off the phone with Samsung, Main screen go to Apps, My Files, create a folder called Ringtone Downloads.... Go to your Music CD pick a track, Copy it and move it into the My Files Folder you created.
You should be able to touch hold or select it as a ringtone. Let me know if it works!
What a pisser, it works perfect on the Sprint Version as well, (the way it should) Touch and Hold!
Ringdroid works great, I've maid some long ringtones with ringdroid 1+ minute long, not quite whole song, but I think you can, it would be worth tyring.

@ItsaRaid,
I tried your suggestion and still nothing. I would use ringdroid. It takes the music you have in your phone and lets you pick any song. I just tried it and its a much more elegant(only) solution. You mentioned you want the whole song as a ringtone. I don't understand why since your phone will only ring for about 6 times. But I just tried it with a 2:00 minute song and just selected all and hit save.. then it asked me if i wanted to save it as a ringtone, alarm or notification. i hit ringtone and it added it to the list of default system ringtones. Hope this helps and while yes I agree its a load of crock what att did, ringdroid appeases my anger. cheers!

Eddies92,
Im so pissed off at AT&T right now. Guess what? (A) Its not a problem on the International or Sprint Version of the SGS2. (B) Contacts... It allowed me access to the music on my SD card, and it even allowed me to pick the track, but there is a "Cap" on the size...300kb only, that is such a load of manure, its absolutely unreal.
On Email, your screwed as well, and you cant add notification sounds.
Why would Samsung allow AT&T to do that to their Premium Flagship Android Device? The Samsung Galaxy AT&T Ladies in the Night S-2
The Suggestion was from Tier 2 technical at Samsung "Raoul". He needs to learn how to make Hummus, maybe then he will be better helping with Smartphones!

So now the question becomes.....Will Samsung release ICS for the AT&T SGS2? and if so, Will ICS alleviate the problem. I just got off a 2 hour phone call with a Level 3 Senior Manager at Samsung, He was shocked as well. The International, Sprint and T-Mobile SGS2's all are "Unrestricted" Only the AT&T version has this problem. They all play Music Tracks from The SD Card that has been assigned Default Ring tone, with No restrictions added, and as well Contacts, there is no 300kb Limit assigned, Only AT&T has restrictions,of this nature, No one else.
I hope one of the developers reads this, and can give me a glimpse of Sunshine.
By The Way, if the Phone was Rooted, would that eliminate my problem?
On the spec sheet, AT&T should have added a notice that they have restricted Playback of Music Materials used as ringtones, sounds or speciific Ringtones used for individual contacts. And, that you are not permitted to add Notification sounds at all.
[QUOTEBy The Way, if the Phone was Rooted, would that eliminate my problem?[/QUOTE]
No it will not.. my phone is rooted. Being rooted doesnt not add any functionality outside of having "administrator privileges"
I spoke with a Senior Samsung Engineer today out of Richardson Texas.... "AT&T Pays for the phone, therefore we have to do what they want, regardless" They were shocked, at the find, the initial comment they made was is,
" All Samsung Phones can do that, you should have no problem using a music track on the SGS-2 for a ringtone sound." Unless of course it is the AT&T Version.
There is a 300kb Cap on the size of the file as well. For Both Music Tracks and Contact Ringtone Assignment for Contacts.
There are some other things as well. Anyone try email maintenance on the phone.? What a nightmare, and it also doesnt work correctly, No "Select All" ect, ect ect. I tried empty the Trash, what a joke. Only on the "Rethink Possible" What a bunch of Scoundrels AT&T is, they ruined a gorgeous phone.
Only on the "Rethink Possible" Maybe they should Re-Think Possible Mr. De La Vega as President of AT&T Mobility and let him Clean toilets instead, along with the people responsible for doing this to the SGS-2.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but as far as email management, both gmail an the "email" app have always pretty much been the way they are. Its really not a big deal. Not trying to be disrespectful but if you keep knitpicking at every phone you have then you will never be happy. Ive never had an iphone but you may be happier with that. I just flashed cyanogen mod and youll be pleased to know that in cm 7 the set as ringtone option is back. CM7 is very stock (google) experience. I think CM7 is great but so far I havent really seen much improvement over the stock UI but like I said it is my preference and mod props to CM7 makers its legit. =)
Eddies 92,
First thank you for your help, I appreciate ALL your comments and guidance. Have you had the Atrix? I have for the past 7 months. Email is awesome, delete a email, theres a undo button, go to empty the trash, its as easy as pie and simple and quick. The SGS-2, I went to dump trash, I had to individually "X" each box and then try to delete them. I accidentally wound up in the in box, and dumped some email, I moved them back to the In Box, and they dissapeared. Im NOT Knitpicking. Email Maintenance was a piece of cake on the Atrix, on the GSG2 it seems "Old Style", and prehistoric in comparison.
What would it take to make me happy? Fix the Music Track Issues, Ringtones and Notifications and make the Email work more like how it does on Atrix... I would be TICKELED PINK! " I-Phone? YUck, how about Nexus Prime LTE
Now, lets get down to Business....
"I just flashed cyanogen mod and youll be pleased to know that in cm 7 the set as ringtone option is back" I have no experience with this, Im not sure what it is, and I wish you lived in Columbus Ohio, cause I would be knocking on your door asking you to help me do it. Can you explaain a little better also the Set Ringtone is back?
never used the atrix. Honestly the email doesnt bug me because i check them as soon as I get them but then again I dont have a ton of emails coming in at once. just 4 or 5 a day. To put it more simply. Android is composed of two things.. the kernel and the rom. the kernel is the operating system. the guts of it all. The rom is what makes it easy to use.. the icons and what not. Cyanogen Mod has been the gold standard in roms for a number of phones.. Understand that the "nexus" series are loved because they provide a pure google experience with no carrier or manufacturer modifications. Cyanogenmod (CM) brings gingerbread v 2.3.7 which is the latest android version shy of Ice cream sandwhich. Normally CM makes phones run like a dream because the stock rom was poorly built. I have not found this to be the case with the galaxy s II. I have not noticed any increase in speed and as far as battery life goes I cant comment because I just flashed it this evening. The stock rom is very good in my opinion. I may stay with cyanogenmod simply because I love the openness and speedy updates and its my way of sticking it to the man, I have absolutely no AT&T restrictions or additions with cyanogenmod. hope this clears things up and if youre intersted there are tutorials in the dev section of the GSII. I found that the tutorial on the CM wiki is much more easy to understand for a first time flasher like your self.
No AT&T restrictions, that means I can play Music Tracks like Ringtones or I can assign Tracks to play with specific Contacts?
The Email on the Atrix was awesome, easy to use, if you accidentally dumped a email, there was the "Undo" button in the Lower Right.
Anyone Near me in Columbus Ohio that could help me do the CM7? Again thanks for the guidance.
By the way, before I typed this I went to my email, settings and notifications ringtones, it let me go into the external SD Card, and The CD Music Tracks were there, I clicked the right hand Dot on one tracked and it lit up green.! Can that be possible? I got chicken, so I returned the email to the ring tone that was previouslly set. Ha, Youve taught me alot already, but you know what, I dont quit so easy, Im a Believer, Fighter and Survivor.
Thank you for the new friendship
-Larry
green dot? sounds like a way to select things on the atrix. never seen an android phone like that. dont chicken out whats the worst that can happen? and to your questions yes you can go to your music player, bring up the options and set as ringtone. Honestly, as great as cyanogen mod is, I'm going back to the stock rom or maybe try another. I was just not wowed by it. you may like it though. its just preference. It needs a tiny bit of work and I am not faulting the devs for this as it was just released.
Glad to be of assistance. i am not new to android and understand things fairly well but I am not a dev by any stretch of the imagination. Had androidsince v 1.5. I am new to the forum and really like the community and am here to stay so see you around larry. cheers
Ha,
your really cool! Let me clarify, I went to the settings in my email... it allowed me to navigate to My files, actually gave me 3 choices, I went to my files, and ext SD Card, and then to one of the CD's I have on the SD Card. I went to the same track I have been trying to get to work. To the right there is a Dot with a empty taget insidet, I clicked on it and it turned green.. Chicken Licken said the sky is falling....
I closed out of everything, put the phone in its Desktop Cradel, on my desk and fired a test email from my PC. It Worked.! I am very confused from this all, why would it work for email (RoadRunner) not elsewhere?
Let me also clarify the email complaint. The User Interface (software?) on the Atrix was wonderful, if you made a mistake to the right lower, there is a tab, undo. Deleting was marvelous, up to date very upbeat everything. The SGS2 however is almost all Manual, its almost Prehistoric. Deletes are manually done, eack email has a box, you have to select the one by one, there is no Select All, and its not easy to delete or clean out trash. The UI on gmail, is much nicer, same for Yahoo. Dont understand why there was such a big difference. on Roadrunner Email between the Atrix and SGS2.
Last Comment. My email Notifications are hit and Miss, they always dont work correctly, or I dont understand how its supposed to work... Ill get email, sometimes the Sound will go off, sometimes the number will show on the email icon... "Sometimes" is a good way to state that. any ideas? Or sometimes I will open the SGS2 and there is a notification after I slide the Bar down, but nothing showing on the Email Icon and no sound warning.
Cheers! God save the Queen

All i can say is im sorry you dont like the S II as much as far as the email,, it was skinned by motorola. S II is closer to stock. Motorola skins the hell out of everything. Im a bit confused, you have an atrix an SGS SII? ive had nothing but good luck with this phone. It could be your kernel is messed up somehow. Ive seen reports of this happening to people but its kinda rare. I would go to settings>privacy> factory reset and delete "usb storage" make sure you have all your important stuff backed up. Hope that will solve your problem. I would highly suggest you look into modding as i think you will be happier with cyanogenmod. Email is its own program. the ringtone limitation was placed from app to app. the email just happened to have ringtone options. most apps are made with the idea that they will use the global (systemwide)notification ringtone. The music app is not stock so it was modded at atts request im guessing. Theres other music apps in the market that probably restore the option youre looking for. I heard doubletwist lets you set as ringtone. sorry i cannot offer anymore insight.
Eddies92,
You got me thinking, I called up Toni Soprano, I told him my trouble, (He took over for the Godfather). I had to Kissa his Big Ring. Gave him a peck on both cheeks as well.
Toni Soprano says like this. We gonna put De la Vega back in Morroco, teach him how to make Hummus..
In the Meantime, I thank you for making me think. You have to Try Mixzing Media Player from the Market. It is absolutely a Italian Stallion. I can now assign any Music Track I want as a RingTone, better yet, Jeff DunHamm and Achmed the Terrorist, "Silence I Kill you"!!! It is abosolutely Awesome. I got so excited Im still jumping up and down, teested it my self. Guess what else, its got a full fledge Audio Mixer 10 Channel, and the Music sounds so much better off it, including the Ringtones.
So..... Take your Music Player AT&T and shove it up your rear end!
PS. The Mail app. I got the skinny on it. The Atrix app, is a Motorola Mail Client proprietary App, It was gleaned and streamlined by Motorola. I posted in the Forum and one of the Developers aswered me. They dont know if the Atrix2 has the same thing, but he recommended K-9 Woof Woof.!
Im almost home, now all I have to do is get my notifications to show up properly, its NOT counting email, and the sound always doesnt go off properly.
Your right, the SGS2 is a gorgeous phone. Scrolling, Flicking, Web, Internet all very fast, for the most part no lag. I hear there is a Update out already, 3rd Party, and the real thing is pending De La Vega to get off the can.
Yeah. I agree with not faulting the phone. Samsung has made a great product and the ones crippling it (in a sense) are AT&T the former does not bug me in the slightest. If you're not happy with their practices, I suggest you jump ship to perhaps sprint or t mobile. I had sprint and loved it for the first year I had it. Their data speeds (3g) have gone down the shi***r. Ive read that on the east coast they're pretty good which is what their known for. I lived in California and recently moved to New Mexico. Coverage for them was horrible. I wouldnt get service in half of my town, literally. it would jump from no service to 1 bar. Second my data speeds were non existent. I swear to you on my grave that I was getting 50kbps on a good day. Average 35kbps. This was ridiculous. Tmobile doesn't have 3g in my town and ive heard horror stories about them. Verizon reigns in my region but they were about 15% more expensive than my current plan at ATT and have a much better value. Supposedly verizon is going to roll out their lte service where I live which intrigued me a bit but I thought to myself.. why do i need all that speed? With att i get 1.5mbps which is more than enough for anyone. People forget, its a phone not a laptop. at 1.5mbps I am more than capable of downloading everything and anything I want. so I must say im a happy camper getting 1.5mbps(3g) speeds coming from 35 mpbs at supposed (3g) on sprint. ps on att, where my parents live in a "4g" area I clock at 3.5mbps =D good enough for me. besides true lte 4g likes to drain batteries quicker.
Im glad you found a music player to your liking. I personally love the stock music player because of the controls on the lock screen and notification bar and if you look youll find the stock player also has a customizable equalizer.
I know this might be the wrong question...? So I'm going to start with a simple disclaimer. No fighting or flaming here, I'm asking a serious question.
Here's the deal, I've been an iPhone user for 5 years since the original release in June 2007... I've owned every iPhone... ALL HAVE BEEN IN T-MOBILE USA SO I HAVE BEEN STUCK USING EDGE ON THEM ALL.
I tried another Android phone (LG O3D) before, but couldn't stick with it for some technical reasons... but I'll leave those discussions for the LG area.
So I paid high dollar and got myself a shiny new SGS3 for T-mobile to use my 4G and I did NOT get it on contract discount. So far I like it, its DIFFERENT from iPhone, and I'm missing a few of the jailbreaking tweaks I got used too over the years. And on the flip side, I'm really enjoying some of the cool features Android offer's out of the box.
So, can you guys help me make my GS3 as cool (or COOLER) than my iPhone?
Here's a quick list of a few things I miss on my iPhone (realize most of these are 3rd party apps from Cydia after jailbreaking)
Ringer X (set individual rings for each contact. MMS/SMS/EMAIL/PHONE CALL/ETC... and you can set ignore mute to create a ALWAYS RING WHITE LIST of Family members (for example), very nice.)
Lockscreen info (Shows current email headers, and has the ability to mark each read with a single click, useful for lots of emails, double clicking shows the entire email)
EMAIL IN GENERAL, I have NOT found any email app yet that can handle displaying desktop formatted emails properly for Android - and I can't understand why. Fit to Width seems to be a feature missing from android email apps, and either I'm crazy, or no one on Android has seen a fit to screen or fit to width email you can ZOOM in to and read the details on. VERY STRANGE TO ME.
There are a few apps that are cross platform that just work different on iPhone vs Android, and I liked the way they worked on iPhone so to me they seem "wrong" on android (not saying they are, just saying I'm not used to the way they work on this platform vs the other one) A good example is my security camera video program. Same app, same distributor, but the iPhone version has (for example) when you launch it - it takes you straight to the live view mode so you can see your cameras.. the android version doesn't have this ability - it wants me to navigate thru the menu's to click on LIVE VIEW, and then it doesn't retain the 4-way camera position everytime. Again, it just works DIFFERENT.
My car alarm app, on Android seems to crash 50% of the time while loading. This has been really annoying, especially as I walk thru the mall trying to start my car remotely. By the time I realize the app crashed, have to clear it from ram, re-launch wait again, well... you get it..frustration.
I'm really trying and wanting to LOVE Android - seriously. But obviously I need some guidance and maybe be shown the coolness of android over iphone... realize that after 5 years on iPhone, and having gone thru EVERY version of iOS since v 1.01 (or v1.02, I can't remember) I'm very familiar and comfortable with iOS - but by that same token, I'm bored too... I want something new and cool.
HELP ME PLEASE.
Many thanks in Advance.
I was a long time iOS user too (started with 1.0.3 in September 2007), I changed to Android about one year and a half now and nowadays I really prefer Android phones, Android has some really nice features. I can't help you with all the questions but I will try.
First of all, are you using the TouchWiz or have you tried other roms? TW has nice features but I really prefer a purer Android experience. With other roms you'll have freedom to personalize and change whatever you want on your phone, in my opinion this is one of the coolest things on Android. I believe CM9 (CyanogenMod9) is a good rom, but there are many other great roms available. If you want to try other roms you can look for it on the Development forums, and you can return to Samsung official rom when you want to.
1. To select specific ringtones you should look for your contact (People or dialer app), when you open it press the menu button and you'll see the option "Set ringtone".
2. I don't know any app to replace the 'lockscreen info', I believe something similar is coming to Android Jellybean, but you could use any app like 'Widget Locker' and use GMail widgets by now, it's not the same but should work.
For me the best email app ever is GMail... I got your point but I've never had any problems with it. I don't use any security camera or car alarm app on my Android phones, so I can't help you with this too, but there's a feature available on some roms (like AOKP) that should help you with this car alarm problem it's the 'hold back to kill' option, you just hold the back button and it instantly kills the crashed app. Although you can always long press the home button to see recent apps and then slide the crashed rom, it should kill the app from ram quickly.
If I remember any better options for this problems I will reply here, but I hope it helps you enjoy your new Galaxy SIII.

You can configure tasker and minimalistic text to display unread emails, missed texts, missed calls etc. Tasker is a little expensive if you're just looking for and widget with the number of unread emails since there are a ton of dedicated widgets for that, but tasker is a lot more flexible and you can configure it to do a lot of other things too like nfc actions.
Not sure if you've looked into these email apps...I don't use them but hear about their popularity. K-9 and Kaiten.

Well I'm not as knowledgeable as most of these guys when it comes to ask this android but I too just came over from a jail broken iPhone. But I've been using android like a mistress for over a year and came up with a few things:
Executive assistant is the closest app I found to replace Lock Info. But I don't use it anymore since I can drop down NC from lock screen to see what I missed. Gmail calendars can text you alerts.
Missed It allows you to create some pretty cool notifications in your launcher.
Prefixer allows you to alter your number dialed with default dialer. Works great for auto area codes or extended speed dial numbers...
I switch between Swype and Swift key
Good luck!

Pretty much all the "cool" features are in stock android. Edit contact with any ringtone should do it. Switch out the contact icon on the bottom (don't need it you can see contacts in the green phone icon)with gmail and It will be on your lock screen. This device is still pretty new so some of the app delvs need to catch up. Once you learn your way around Android you 'll see that JBing is nothing more than a theme in Android.
Have fun learning

as far as the ringtone thing, what I'm taking about specifically is with a jail break app called ringer x I am able to set ringtones for a contact call, sms, email. 3 unique tones for 3 unique actions from the same contact.
Plus you can tell it ignore mute, and no matter what your ringer setting is, it will make noise (ring) at the volume you set in the contact. It's pretty great, especially for those of us with kids.
And I agree android is a learning curve.

Yeah hold the phone near mouth and say IGNORE or put the phone face down when ringing or pull up the curtain and select a ignore text reply.

Using Samsung Galaxy Note from Tmobile, the SGH-T879, a.k.a SGH-i717, Android version 4.0.4, Rooted
About me: I am not a developer or programmer; but, I am savvy enough to manipulate/configure Windows computers, remove malicious software and generally troubleshoot many common problems on a PC.
What I need to do: I need to record cell phone conversations at the line level (not speakerphone) and am beginning to believe that isn't possible on Android 4.0.4. Someone told me I might need a custom ROM that allows line recording. I don't understand ROM and its relation to the phone as well as I do Windows OS and its relation to the Computer; but, I want to learn so I can solve this call recording problem.
Can someone point me in the right direction for learning about this?
Sir, there are apps free from the GPlay Market for this...take a look, although you have to be rooted for some apps but you stated you are rooted.
A custom ROM is not needed.
Again, do a search via mighty Google and see any thing points you to the Market GPlay.
google voice has this built in. just press 4 while in call.

Thanks for the reply.
I have been working on this problem for two weeks+, have tried many call recording programs and had exchanges with their tech support. NONE will record from line on this phone. Their final answer is to just use speakerphone. I have had exchanges with others and found that not one has reported a successful LINE level recording with stock Android versions above 2.3.5. I have also read in forums where some were able to record but it broke when their Android versions were upgraded or they got a newer phone with a later Android version.
The recording programs offered on Google are, in my opinion, misnamed voice recorders as they record only when the phone is on speaker.
Please, is there a good place on the 'net where I can learn about ROMs?.

First read the thread linked below at least twice for help on understanding how to flash custom ROM builds etc.. Reading it twice will help make sure you grasp everything well prior to flashing your Note.
[Road & Ref Map]: Galaxy Note Super Everything Thread (I717) 9/11/2012: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740367
Moreover, once you understand the steps needed in order to load different ROM builds etc.., below is a link to an excellent Gingerbread 2.3.6 XLA2 ROM by DAGr8 that has the line recording built in. That said, I still use it as my "go to" ROM when not trying out ICS & JB builds, due to the built in line recording, as well as the ability to enable Ad-Hoc WiFi support by switching out the wpa_supplicant file.

Hey Alex, don't thank me, d'oh! I somehow skipped right past your first OP post. If you have a Samsung Galaxy Note from T-Mobile, "the SGH-T879 model", and not the SGH-I717 model from At&t, SAUROM may not work as intended, and you should post in T-Mobile Galaxy Note section, not here. That said, I'm not sure what would be best for the T-Mobile Note as far as line recording, but you should post and search in that specific sub-forum for help.
Best to all,
R
Yes, it is the T879 and thanks for the heads-up.
I don't see a T879 or T-mobile Galaxy Note section here. Where is it?
Thanks.
It isn't here - its an altogether different forum. Just go to the main list of supported phones and find it there.
So, Just days after making my post about my thoughts on the latest stable Miui.us Rom which is version 2.10.26.3 I was looking through the original dev section and came across (almost as soon as it was put out) The Miui Lens edition. Which was originally titled to imply that the rom was able to be used right off the bat as a daily driver, so I downloaded, and installed it. And here was my original impression.
Before the first update release the rom was uninstallable, but this was fixed.
I installed it to realize that I stupidly had not installed gapps, so I picked from one of my default gapps version I keep on my SD card, and installed it.
I got back into the rom, to realize that out of the hardware keys (back, home, recent apps) the only one working, was back.
Within minutes, this rom was updated to fix said issue. And I currently have all buttons working, that said I am having a haptic feedback issue where none of the buttons make the phone vibrate, this was not enough of an issue to get me off the rom, so I continued and until today was waiting for another update to hopefully fix the issue, but even with said update, issues are existant that still make phone usage not completely satisfying, as it was in the Miui.us 2.10.26.3 version of this rom.
Usability current Testing results, and thoughts:
I would like to start out here by saying that I have every intention of going back to the lens release of miui as soon as I can confirm that it is stable enough for ME to use as a daily, which for me, generally means that everything I do on the phone has to function properly, without the need of downloading a separate application, or having to fix things manually. I like the lens release of the rom more SPECIFICALLY because of the developer. His releases of the Miui rom are getting better, not worse, and I likely believe that he will create the perfect Miui rom for our phone faster than the developers at Miui.us.
1. Miui Launcher Configuration is functioning properly
2. Miui Themes is currently functioning properly as long as an account is set up, during the set up process.
3. Miui Music test showed first, that the app was functioning properly, however upon secondary test of setting configuration I realized that when
the Id3 tag correction and album art download was enabled without setting up an account during setup process, that the music app would F/C
I rebooted and cleared my cache and dalvic.
4. Headphone test (Brought to you by the Lens Rom Forum) failed, without an application (headphone toggle) from the Marketplace any -----------headphones plugged into the device, will not output sound. The device will remain on speaker.
5. Miui Sound Recorder, upon initializing sound record brings the emergency notification (Internal Application Error)
6. Miui Music Visualizer on both lockscreen and widget are responding to system sounds only (such as a notification, or a previously enabled or defaulted touch sound. They do not respond to music.
7. Miui will not detect that music is playing and alter the lockscreen to music format for you, because of this, to access the lockscreen music controls you must double tap on the...dongle to drag and unlock, to switch to the music control lockscreen, this is not a major issue, however with the visualizer not working, the controls, and the widget look a tad bland for Miui. (odd how that works)
8. The Miui Virus Scanning Application is functioning properly (a test was done with a known app to contain a virus, it was found and removed)
9. The Miui Shake to organize on home screen is not currently an available feature for this rom.
10. The Miui Notes application is functioning properly.
11. The Miui Setup Process was completed without error.
12. Miui Wifi download speeds seem comparable to sense. However an issue with rom abuse may cause you to loose ALL internet access until phone was rebooted, I cannot test further as I am still currently unaware of how this happened. But after I got this rom, I was preforming tests on it to test stability for 3 hours straight without letting the device sleep, after 3 hours (and some odd minutes) my internet, while displaying I had a perfect connection in 3g, and wifi, would not download an app, load a webpage (tested on 3 separate browsers), or allow internet access to an application.
13. The Miui firewall application, Seems, to be functioning properly, however when first setup it did not block the first incoming call from test subject. All others, were blocked respectively.
14. The Miui Camera featured in this rom (actually a camera from a previous AOSP rom) is functioning properly, with all settings configured, It is not a Miui Camera but a modded camera none the less, and has interesting features, that I will miss, upon loosing this rom.
15. All Miui Notification configurations are working properly
16. Miui sound mods have been enabled on this device, allowing me to hear my ringtone from 3 rooms away in an apartment (currently not so on cm10, and Paranoid android (tho I do love that rom))
17. Miui Online music, notifications, themes, album art, and id3 tag correction will only work if an account is set up at the initial boot of the room during setup.
18. The Miui Torch is working without issue on this rom.
19. Awesome beats v3 is untestable at the moment but assumed working, as headphones can be enabled.
20. The Miui Built in equalizer is working properly on this rom.
21. The Komodo Sweep to Wake OC kernel is currently working properly on this rom.
22. Live wallpapers are working correctly on this rom
23. Miui Weather Widgets cannot function without a translated version of the Miui Weather Application that can detect US cities (not yet available)
24. The Miui Clock application seems to be functioning properly (tested alarm, timer, timezone config, and stopwatch)
25. The Miui Smart Dialer seems to be functioning properly
26. The Miui Call Record feature seems to be functioning properly (tested on a call with test subject)
27. Lockscreen wallpaper changer, homescreen wallpaper change, and live wallpaper change are functioning properly .
28. There is not a Miui Toolbox application on this rom (No root configuration other than what is listed in settings)
29. Adblock for android seems to be working on this rom.
30. Notification dual touch re-size seems to be functioning correctly on this rom.
31. Lucky patcher confirmed installed properly on this rom.
32. LBE guard and App control Miui Applications are functioning properly on this rom.
33. Prompt requesting root access is working properly on this rom.
34. Anreboot, and goo manager are working properly on this rom.
35. Dual core AOSP mod is functioning properly on this rom.
36. All but weather widgets are currently functioning properly on this rom.
37. Google voice (brought to you by the Lens rom Forum) is not currently working on this rom.
-I would like to point out, that sprint is partnered with google voice, and you can set it to replace your actual voicemail, and text you visual voicemail, making all your texts go to you, and all calls go to you, you have visual voicemail, and regular voicemail. It will also screen your calls and blah blah, idk what the app is for if it already does that, if you know something that you would be missing, please inform me promptly.
38. Lucky patcher patch confirmed working on all different configurations on multiple applications.
39. Flash for JB is working perfectly on this rom.
40. the Miui Browser is functioning perfectly on this rom.
41. the miui contacts application is functioning properly on this rom.
42. The miui messaging application is working properly on this rom.
43. The Miui Torch application is functioning properly on this rom.
44. The miui (breaking news) I just got another music F/C on lockscreen double-tap access
45. The miui Compass is working properly on this rom.
46. All lockscreen transition options are working properly on this rom.
47. 3g, 1x signal bars seem to be accurate in comparison to sense rom.
48. Calendar, reminders for calendar, and notifications for calendar are working properly on this rom.
49. GPS is gives me results accurate to 100 meters on this rom instantly, on Miui.us I get an instant lock to within 20 meters.
50. Mirror widgets are working properly on this phone.
51. Bluetooth is working properly on this rom.
If you have something you would like me to test other than the 51 things i have already tested for you please let me know below and I will try to get around to it within 1-2 days. I will keep a backup of this and of The Miui.us rom and keep them both updated, i will also, keep both of these posts updated to the best of my ability.
Thank you very much, and i hope you have a wonderful day.

I am...
I am a rom addicted htc user who wants to provide information for those who don't wish to flash a rom, and then find problems, when they could have looked to someone to tell them in the first place, and saved themselves the trouble.
I am also a rom addicted htc user who wants to see the roms I have loved on other devices (like the Miui rom) brought to the phone I love.
So I test to ensure that no one who is looking for a daily driver has to go through the pains of downloading a broken rom without them knowing about it when the information about the problems was nowhere to be found, but the good things about the rom displayed clearly in plain sight.
Thank you for replying to my post, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
If you're gonna do this you should make a general ROM review thread instead of making a new one every time you review a different ROM. Every time you write a different review in the thread just update the op with a link to the post with that review. Its not a bad idea what you're doing. It would just be better for everyone, including yourself, to have them consolidated into one thread.
Thank you for viewing my post.

Definitely understood youdug, actually thinking about creating a thread and moving all old OP review threads down a notch, so that the new review can be made more easily readable by people with quick running attention spans as the thread is updated, using multiple edits thats gonna be a hassle though at the moment while i have a time restricted limit on editing and posting, i was also posting them in seperate threads so that they would be viewed quicker and i could assign multiple tags to each, but i hadnt really thought about how i could put them in one thread while making them easily accessible.
Will definitely create a general rom review thread and find a way to make it work and once again...

But to all you evo users

Thank you for replying to my post. I could make it that way but im going to have to figure out how to do so without leaving some things out for testing, I suppose I could test and not post all the results from my testing on the forum and only post that things are working or that they aren't and I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post.
@flex 360
I hope you do not take this as a REVIEW of the rom, but simply as what is working and what isn't, and im only displaying this information for the people who don't want to take the time to go through 100 pages of a forum to find out if a problem has been solved, just to find 20 pages later that another problem has shown up, Im not displaying this for people testing the rom as they want to go through and find the issues that you may have missed and comment on them to help development. Im writing these from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't want to test a rom, but does want to use it, because I am certain you know that there are a lot more of those people out there than people willing to test the rom.
But if you would like me not to post a view on your rom, I suppose I will not, but I can already promise you, that sometime in the past I have already flashed your rom onto my phone and used it for atleast a little while.
@fpineda101
Thank you for replying to my post, and I am glad that you understand what I am trying to do here along with some others. I am starting to understand that these "reviews" are coming off, to some people, in a different way than I intended them to. Although I would have left the term "noob" out of my comment I appreciate your understanding.
@sparytrainor
Thank you for replying to my post. I sincerely wish you would have read the entire OP before making a comment such as that. I gave many compliments to Lens throughout the entire thing, and I still believe he will have the rom working perfectly on our phones before anyone else out there because of how much effort he is putting into the development of his rom, I in no way intended to state anything negative about his rom, But to give information to people not looking to test, what is working, and what is not. Now that I understand how it is coming off to you and others I will begin to choose my wording more carefully.
Also, I had the rom within minutes of it being posted on xda-developers, and watched as it developed through the forum for a few days. To claim that I should look into knowing the person when I was one of the first to download and await progress is an incorrect assessment.
I also know that he is creating this rom without having the actual phone, which is inspiring, and another reason I attempted to compliment him throughout the entire process of the OP.
@Lens_Flare
Thank you VERY much for replying on my post. I do very much appreciate it and I hope you took no offence to my OP as I in no way intended for it to come off negative. I also hope that you understand my original (and previously stated) purpose for these threads. I am simply stating to the people, (not testers) but the majority, who are looking for a rom to stick with, that they can enjoy from start to finish.
I expect you to be the first to complete this rom for our phone and make it fully functional, WHICH IS ASTOUNDING because you do not have the actual phone. In all respects I look up to you and all rom devlopers on this phone as I am not one who currently possess is the ability to make one, and to be honest if I ever wanted to gain the knowledge and EVER create a rom, it wouldn't become popular as it would be a rom I could not post on this site (for legal reasons based on the apps and features that the rom contained, such as lucky patcher and black mart)
@All Rom Devs on xda-developers.com
I honestly had hoped that I would not have to clarify, least of all to you, my intentions for these threads. I simply originated with thoughts similar to those of the majority (the initial thought being, I want something different) and not as a tester of these roms, but as I came across a few (some not listed on xda-developers.com) and I realized that some of the roms that I REALLY wanted to try on my phone, fall in love with, and never switch from again, claimed no-where on their rom thread what the rom was currently missing, or what was broken (please note: I do not mean ALL roms on this site, but a few) and upon asking, I received the response (Flash, and see for yourself) which I at the time, I was not completely willing to do (as i generally have a pretty busy schedule, and cannot waste time flashing 3-4 roms a day). So i came to the thought everyone does, if you cant find someone to do it for you, do it yourself. Which lead me to do something that i do not generally want to do, but the majority of people downloading your roms are not testers, so i decided to take upon myself. Which is create these threads, and attempt in a way to make the issues seemingly understandable to people who do not even possess the proper knowledge required to understand what is wrong with the rom, even if told to them bluntly. Which i apologize to the majority, but again, is most people.
So if my reviews have AT ALL offended or been taken negatively by any rom developer, or even tester on this site. I sincerely apologize and i will begin to consider the wording in these "reviews". Because i in no way mean to offend, or be harsh, or state anything negative about your rom other than what the majority of people looking will want to see quickly. I view this as supporting your roms, as when a person who knows nothing about rom development, and has no appreciation for the rom developer (which i must sadly say is the majority of people seeking a rom) sees that your rom has ANYTHING AT ALL WRONG WITH IT (by their standards) that was not clearly stated to them, and they aren't willing to accept it, it will be much more difficult to get them to return to the rom, or their friends, or anyone they tell, or anyone who watched the youtube video they make, or anyone who reads their blog. Saddly this is how i must view the majority, and how i must explain to them what is wrong, in order to keep such a thing from happening to any of your wonderful roms that i have tried. I wish to see all of your roms become popular, be boasted about to people on the street by the majority, and see you flourish in the results of the incredible work you are doing to bring these roms to our phone, and this is a way i see to do it. I see one day walking past another on the street and hearing the name of the rom that i watched be developed on this site, And i wish to add my 2 cents in with these threads or this thread (which it is going to become)
Thank you all for viewing, and replying to my post, and i hope you all have a wonderful day.....

First of all greetings XDA community. I am new here but ever since I got my android and found this website I've been checking and searching for needed information, up until now I never had the need to register or post. So thanks for the help and information I've already found in other threads and other topics
The reason I needed to make an actual post here, is because I don't exactly have a precise question. I understand this may be a subject of discussion, so I wanted to hear the opinion of people with more experience and knowledge.
I have a Samsung Galaxy W, for probably less than a year. I understood that at the time of purchase the phone itself was already "outdated".
However this didn't concern me, I wanted a phone just so I could access the Internet anytime needed just to read some stuff or google something I may need as well as checking fb and twitter. For larger and more resource-consuming apps I would use my tablet (a Sony S).
In a nutshell: I want my android for browsing the Internet and checking fb and twitter. I would use it as an mp3 and to play some casual games to burn some time (angry birds, solitare, bejwelled, Jetpack Joyride and so forth).
By the way, I would like to (at the risk of getting sidetracked) ask you for some recommendations on browsers for android. I know Chrome is probably by far the best, but sadly the Galaxy W can't run Chrome. I've tried Dolphin, Opera, Ninesky... but nothing that would fully satisfy me (like Chrome).
The issue: As of late my phone as been slowing down and dragging itself a bit too much. Something as simple as opening the messages, something you'd expect to be instantaneous, takes some painful seconds under a black screen.
I couldn't deal with the keyboard (this is my first touchscreen phone) so I tested and bought SwiftKey which made typing a lot easier, but sometimes it also takes a while to see the keyboard appear.
Some of my apps (might be relevant): Juice Defender, 3G Watchdog, Facebook, Twitter, TweetDeck, tomtom Places, and some apps that are forced by the carrier.
I use Clean Master and I even try to, sometimes, kill iddle tasks of things I don't need, but it feels pointless since the phone just drags and slows even more as he restarts the closed apps again.
I think that using a different ROM might help my issue, and I have some questions:
1- Do you think using a Jelly Bean (or ICS) Cyanogen mod might improve the speed on my phone (pardon if I'm saying some barbarity in here)
2- If I install a Jelly Bean or ICS ROM will I be able to downolad and install Chrome from the store?
3- The phone is unlocked (meaning I can use other SIM cards from any carriers in it). Will the ROM undo this and force the phone back to it's original carrier?
4- The phone is rooted. This is kinda silly but I'd like to be sure. Will a new ROM un-root my phone?
I think that's it. Sorry for the long post. I wanted to make sure I wrote all the relevant information to make sure I get the right answer :fingers-crossed:
Thank you, looking forward to read your replies :highfive:
I forgot to mention, for some time i used the ex go launcher. It worked the same as the default theme. It takes sometime to load at first but after loading the transitions are smooth and everything works fine... until i open an app or do something big.
Lately (read, today) the call button was a bit laggy and i did not like it one bit.

First of all greetings XDA community. I am new here but ever since I got my android and found this website I've been checking and searching for needed information, up until now I never had the need to register or post. So thanks for the help and information I've already found in other threads and other topics
