Want to learn how to compile new ROMS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay. So I got a Sony Xperia C device from a friend since my old phone fell and broke. Anyway, once I got this device I noticed there's zero Lollipop/Marshmallow/Nougat based custom ROMS for this specific model. So I was wondering if theres any way to compile a new kernel to make it support these ROMS? I already downloaded the source code and I'm already rooted. Any guides on compiling kernels/ROMS would be appreciated. Yes, I'm kind of new to this so a noob friendly tutorial would be appreciated. Thanks.

Help Porting ROM?

Hi guys!
So I've done a bit of scripting, mods, and I already know how to build ROMs. Im pretty comfortable with the Android OS as a whole. I've made some kernels as well.
Really though I would love to get started porting ROMs. I mainly just want to learn the process and do one since this really should be a learning experience.for me.
What helped you guys start porting ROMs? Are there are any guides availible that detail the process a bit and help first timers like me?
Thanks!
What phone do you want to port from and what phone to you want to port to? Give us more information. Help us help you.
Here is a very easy, very straightforward guide from blindndumb on porting lewaos and joyos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623464

I recently got an HTC One X AT&T.
Really I was looking to port ROMs not trying to be quick and for the community but rather for myself to learn. If I get an AOSP ROM out before someone else (like CM9 or AOKP) then by all means I will release it, but I really want to go through this as a learning process.
The HOX AT&T currently doesn't have any AOSP ports. I was looking to do more than just some file replacements to port; like I wanted to build from source, with drivers, and the full shabang.
Have you checked out the htcdev.com site for kernel source?

About Galaxy S 3

Hello everybody.
I used to own a Sony Xperia P, too bad it got bricked and I'm looking forward on getting a Galaxy S3 i9300.
Can anyone please tell me about it's support. I mean let's say I want to install CM ROMS, is it widely supported on by the community?
On Xperia P forum we only had CM9 and CM10 is almost a dream to have, if any one could give me a clue about it I really appreciate it
So far I'm interested in building a custom kernel based on Samsung source code (if I got this device)
I'm not into Rom development, was just wondering about CM support for this device in-case I wanted to change the installed ROM.
I appreciate any hint provided
Best Regards.
You could try the search function You Will find that the s3 development community is very vivid. Top of the line development/modding/tweaking and support. You have cm9, cm10 plus lots of different kang projects with great og support
spilled from my gt-9300 SuperNexus

I searched the forum but maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first post.
I don't really care about themes, mods and stuff. I prefer only installing CM roms for a change, I found that CM10 reached Stable, and CM10.1 is in the works from this website: http://teamhacksung.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
Just wanted to be sure from users who already on this device just to be sure

In the end I might get I9300 is the only one available where I live.
I guess I will stick with I9300 if I'm able to get it.

For sure I will stick around with developing for Xperia phones

Need some help porting GPE ROM to our device.

Hello community!
I can't wait while someone porting a GPE Rom, so I want to get involved.
As far as I understood in order to build a rom I need:
The System Dump of GPE ROM
Build a new kernel from GPE kernel sources.
Write an Installation Script
Correct me if I am wrong.
Now, Dear Community I need your help.
Tell me what knowledge are required to get this work done.
There too many different tutorials for cooking roms, so I kinda messed up.
If it's not hard for you, can you give the links for some good information that I will need.:cyclops:
Get to my thread here and do it to the end. I feel like my XZU accidentally died for some days :crying:

How do custom updated android roms work?

I want to do rom development for my friends unbranded Android phone. I wanna make a KitKat rom for his phone. Im a developer so I have a technical mind and have read some Android kitchen tutorials here on XDA and I was wondering, I know how I would make a custom rom for a unbranded phone by just dumping the rom off the phone in question BUT how would I go about updating this rom to a later version?

To be honest being able to use a kitchen doesnt make you a developer. You would been to back port all the drivers and libs to work on a device that it wasnt meant for. You would also need to hack the kernel to work. The device will need to have kernel source posted as the current kernel will not work on an updated OS.

yeah, I didnt mean I use kitchen so I know what im doing, I ment like I have developers experience (in Obj C and such). Might give it a whirl but I think I might be too novice to go to kernel coding.

Unhappy [Q] please i despaired
Hi all reading this post
I have an acer liquid s2 with android 4.2.2 stock, rooting this device is very easy but but i've found nothing about a custom rom or aosp rom like Cyanogenmod (my dream).
it's a very good phablet but i don't like the stock rom, i prefer my galaxy s4 mini with cm11.
Is there any way to have an alternate rom ?
Please ohhhh please.
Thanx.
Sorry for my english i 'm french
Doesn't look like there is any development for it at all beyond unlocking the bootloader, root, and CWM recovery. I learned my lesson about buying devices that developers aren't interested in awhile ago... Just one of those things, unfortunately. I suggest using a different launcher and the Xposed Framework for the best way to mod without needing a custom rom.
