Right steps with 915V - Verizon Note Edge Android Development

is it right way?
1. Downgrade to 5.0.1
2. Root
3. Unlock bootloader
4. TWRP
5. Custow FW
is it right? I can't root on modified Lollipop ROM with Marshmallow bootloader from here
use any kingroot
and i can't downgrade to 4.4.4
May be i can root 6.0.1?

I try Lollipop ROM with Marshmallow bootloader in Odin (N915_MOD-ROM) but PC-version of Kingroot (kingorrot) cann't give me root. This fw has non-working Wi-Fi and kingroot apk can't work on it.
Then i try with stock fw 5.0.1 and get root after several attempts. After this i unlocked bootloader, flash twrp, flash fw with 6..0.1.
But it was error in my steps. On last FW i can't use Wi-Fi and camera was bad - non-focusing.
I returned to N915_MOD-ROM - camera worked! Then flash
modified Marshmallow ROM (without bootloader) in Odin (MM-STOCK-N915V.tar.md5) - Wi-Fi is worked! But bootloader is locked again TWRP and root is out ((

Maybe someone will correct me on this, but I thought recovery required a non-stock kernel, and insralling a non-stock kernel requires the boot loader to be unlocked. So, you can't have recovery on a locked bootloader with stock ROM.

Nope, if you want a custom recovery you'll need to unlock your bootloader. In case you wan't to keep your DRM keys nad relock bootloader afterwards, backup you TA partition, unlock your boot loader, flash 4.2.2 kernel with custom recovery ('https://mega.co.nz/#!vV8QHKaI!Zpxtii1zictYur7sVOVRVVk0lR8tdIDOSmaDQkL8QDk'), flash root from recovery and finally reflash your TA partition which also relocks your bootloader.

flash older kernel in order to root latest firmware (23.0.1.A.0.167)?

Hi!
Somebody in a different forum suggested that it might be possible to root the latest firmware (23.0.1.A.0.167) by downgrading the kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56590546&postcount=1224).
Can anybody confirm this method to work?
I purchased my Z2 tablet yesterday and was foolish enough to believe that I can upgrade to the latest firmware and still root my device (with a locked bootloader).

It doesn't work. You end up to bootloop. However you can flash prerooted firmware in custom recovery and have fully rooted device.

In order to do so I have to unlock my bootloader and with that I'm going to lose my drm keys, right?

No. If you easy root and install the dual recovery beforehand you flash from that.
But easy root doesn't seem to work with the latest firmware, they closed the vulnerability that easy root is using

Easy Root Tool works just fine with .314 firmware. So if you are now on latest .167 firmware, downgrade to .314, root it, install custom recovery and flash prerooted flashable.zip in custom recovery. Done.

Ah, I didn't know it's possible to downgrade the firmware
So I need the firmware flash tool and a ftf file of the 167 firmware, right?
And it can be done without root and a locked bootloader?
Sorry for all the newbie questions, I'm coming from HTC devices and it's a little different there

You need:
- latest Flashtool with drivers installed correctly for your device
- some working custom recovery
- Easy root tool
- ftf file you need is 314 firmware of you device where you have to downgrade to easily root it
- prerooted zip file included you device 167 firmware, SuperSu install files and latest dualrecovery install files.
You don´t need unlocked bootloader for this. Point of downgrading is to achieve root easily that you can have root with 167 firmware? Or do you mean that can you achieve root on 314 firmware without having it before? If so, yes you can with Easy root tool.

thanks for your efforts!
in the meantime I managed to downgrade the firmware to 314, successfully root and backup TA
I installed superSU from the play store and it is telling me that I need to update the binaries and I can choose between "normal" (which doesn't work) or through "twrp/cwm"
I didn't install any custom recovery yet, so I'm not sure how to move on from now
should I install dual recovery (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598), after flash the latest supersu from recovery and finally flash prerooted zip file?
do I need custom recovery to flash the prerooted 167 firmware?
or should I just run the OTA to get 167 firmware (will the device still be rooted after the update)?
please advice

Good to here you achievment. If you can´t update SuperSu binaries by "normal" way easiest might be to flash SuperSu latest update from custom recovery. I recommend dual recovery from your link and when installed use TWRP.
So install dualrecovery, flash latest SuperSu and then prerooted zip. If you end up without write permissions to system here might be solution for that.

New to Sony Devices

Ok so im by no means new to rooting and roms and the like since ive rooted every phone ive had over the last 5 years but for the life of me i can not seems to figure out these sony devices. So i downloaded and flashed the new 5.1.1 ftf thru flashtool last night and everything is working fine. I have google and searched thru xda about ways to root and i thought the first step would be to install XZdual recovery but i downloaded nuts installer and ran it which seems to have worked but it still does nothing whether trying to manually enter recovery or doing it thru adb. Ok guys what am i doing wrong? Any help would be great!
Must downgrade to 4.4.2, the XZDR will root and install a recovery, then you install a pre rooted package or modified but stock-based 5.1.1 ROM, you won't loose root or recovery; but you wont be able to update via "official" methods like OTA or PC Companion because you have modified the phone's software.
Step # 1 is downgrade to 4.4.2 (314 build number works like a charm)
Damn what a pain but thank you for the reply at least thats a start since there are lots of guides for rooting 4.4.2 lol. Thanks
You don't have to downgrade to kitkat, You can downgrade to lollipop 5.0.2 (by flashing a new ftf via flashtool) and root via king root and install recovery via xzrecovery app (after getting root access) and then follow these steps:
1.Download a pre-rooted firmware 5.1.1 (flashable zip)
2.Boot into Recovery (TWRP Recommend)
3.Install - Choose ROM direction - flash the ROM zip and wipe cache\dalvik cache
(don't worry this won't wipe your data)
# I highly recommend you to do a factory reset after flashing because if you didn't the phone will be laggy and battery will drain extremely fast
*And If you have xposed installed don't forget to remove it because it may causes problems
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks ?

If your going to downgrade to an older version of Android, why not go to a version of Android that can be rooted by an app that that doesn't require internet access or all the permissions of kingroot?
Kingroot requires a lot of permissions on your phone to complete something fairly basic.

hi ..
i m on official unrooted MM..i want rooted MM ..
if i flash a pre rooted tft in flashtool directly without downgrading, will it work for me or give me bootloop etc?
help plz
You must downgrade. It is fast and easy. Also, you CANNOT flash a modified .ftf firmware.

It is easier on kit kat build 314, because the old XZDR (Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.installer) roots and installs the recovery in one step. When the phone reboots you can install a Marshmallow ROM and that's it.
