Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

Heh. That's why I get no sleep. ROM and Gapps downloads are done at oh-dark-thirty in the morning when speeds are great.

YOU have to determine what is draining battery. Install tools like Wakelock Detector or Better Battery Stats to see what's up.
Could be kernel, could be Google services, social media apps, rogue app, almost anything.
Go to Settings -> Battery. What's at the top of the list?
Don't forget to let the ROM settle in some. Can't really determine battery life on first cycle.

Does this ROM have oms commits for substratum?
Awesome, going to try this as soon as I get home and give feedback.
Great to see fast Nougat build from team, almost no Nougat builds from other teams/person(s) yet.

That's true but there is two types of substratum. Legacy which uses the rro from layers and then there's oms. The newer one with no reboots required and allows you to change boot animations and fonts.

No if you are already on N
It probably largely works with all roms, but I still gotto ask. Project Fi working?
Edit: Since I'm the exact opposite of patient, I went ahead and flashed the rom. Carrier Provisioning Service has stopped during Fi activation. This was a problem about a month ago on Cyanogenmod, and it had something to do with the way SprintDM was odexed (or something). SprintDM is a 32 bit app. If it is Odexed as a 64 bit app, it will cease to function. *I fixed this below*
Edit2: I got Fi switching to Sprint working by deleting DMService.apk and the oat folder in the system/priv-app/DMService folder and then replacing it with this one: https://github.com/TheMuppets/propr...ary/priv-app/DMService/DMService.apk?raw=true
Setting permissions to:
Owner: RW
Group: R
Other: R
And both file permissions set to "ROOT"
Edit3: Only feature requests I have is changing the battery icon to dotted circle/percentage and being able to add the triple dot to my nav bar.
Is there any way to show battery % on statusbar? I know the way with SustemUI Tuner but I love to have % next to battery icon.

is there any way to put light notifications in rom(charging etc),and where i can choose launcher when i set at first time boot for always. is there any way to remove date from homescreen?
does anyone use it with elementalx?
also,it would be great to write proper procedure for dirty flash, for next updates
I'm on pure nexus MM right now. I know I need to update my bootloader, radio and vendor but which build number is this rom based off of? Is it the latest NRD90S? I'd love to try this rom out, just need to know which images to flash. Thanks a lot.

Might add some later, it is basically lineageos with a few small additions.

Before anyone asks, I'll put what I plan to do for updates.
I could do nightlies, I have quite a bit of spare time, however I don't want to. Why? Why would I if a day has seen low github activity on OctOS' side, and there haven't been changes? Therefore, I shall regularly check their GitHub, and update if there are notable changes. I will try to update at least once a week regardless of GitHub activity to sync with latest LineageOS/AOSP sources.
This would likely change if this becomes official, I would follow OctOS' guidelines the the updating schedule
I've tried this ROM before on my T-Mobile Galaxy S3. It's a pretty awesome ROM. Thanks for building it for bacon. ?
I tried this ROM for a while and this is how it went out for me.
Almost all the time on WiFi. About 45 minutes on LTE.
Lots of YouTube (virtually 60% of this cycle), Telegram using Plus Messenger, WhatsApp, Streaming music through Spotify for about an hour and some browsing using arter97's Chromium.
The ROM is really smooth and gives decent battery life on stock. I could not find any bugs on it so far, seems pretty stable as well.
I hope to see more from this dev. Thanks for this port.
Looks interesting. I'll give it a try. Downloading now.
Update released, check link in op.
Update to latest security patch, and I am now the official maintainer, expect to see weeklies, this will probably be one of my last community builds
I'm facing issue with Adaway It fails to copy host can someone please provide solution??
Looks greatly promising, will be my first nougat rom, when i feel to change my daily driver Hexagon...
great ROM , and for bacon have AOSP version? or just only LOS version?
anyone with screenshot for this Rom ?
Coming from Sultan Rom, any specific things to follow when flashing this ?
Good rom. Just one thing i think miss or i'm not able to find: there's any way to disable superuser icon on status bar? Or it will be implemented in next releases?
Thanks
Removing su icon will be implemented soon.

As for screenshots, it is plain los with added features. I'll try to add some screenshots later.

Reboot

It all depends how you use your device and what you are using. Saying that, I find it to be very battery friendly.
Not sure about that. May battery is 5 years old and most of the time i'm connected to charger but besides that, it depends on your use.
New build's up!

I find it quite fast, but battery is probably not as good as Marshmallow roms.
I am using it since a couple of week. For my usage I found it a bit worse than MM. What I lack is theming, I'd like an all black interface.

Will this ROM be always on Lineage Kernel?
As that Kernel is causing device to overheat and draining battery..
If anyone from you guys, know better kernel for this ROM, which also has DT2W, please reply back.
I'll be using that kernel with this ROM.
As I like this ROM very much, but the kernel is stopping me from using it.
