So I recently purchased the 16 gb htc flyer on buy.com for $200 refurbished, now I see I can get the 32 gb View for $250 new.
Ive searched and found they are basically the same thing with the exception of the view being a sprint 3g/4g contract deal.
Im thinking that Id rather get the view with more memory and in "new" condition for a bit more cash.
But I see various things about sprint logos always popping up and always searching for a signal etc.. One amazon review said that you get constant pop-ups asking to sign-up and its a major hassle.
Im not planning on rooting it, and the fix's I've seen require that it seems. Are there ways to remedy this without rooting?
My question is should I get the view and return the flyer? I really dont want to have to always have sprint stuff popping up and the related hassles of always searching for a signal draining the battery
My View is not rooted, and it's running the stock OTA Honeycomb software.
The only time anything from Sprint will pop up is when you boot up or restart the tablet. It gives you an activation prompt, which you can easily dismiss. Nothing from Sprint ever pops up at any other time. I use No Lock from the market (which does not require root), and somehow it not only serves it's major function (deactivating the lock screen), but it completely gets rid of the Sprint activation prompt when first booting up along with dramatically decreasing the boot time. My View will be completely up and ready to use within 10 seconds of turning it on from being shut down.
Searching for signal ("cell standby") is something that is easily taken care of as well. Simply turning off cellular data in the settings isn't enough since the View is also set up to receive text messages. The easiest, non-rooted way is to run it in airplane mode. That's what I do. You can still use WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS in airplane mode without any problems whatsoever (you'll just have to turn them on after you've activated airplane mode the first time). Once turned on, the tablet will remain in airplane mode, even after reboots (so there's no need to have to remember to turn it on all the time), making the option very easy. Other options are discussed in this thread.
So yes, there are easy ways to solve everything you've mentioned without rooting.

MAN thank you for the No Lock app idea...i don't want a lock screen on my tab, and didn't even think to look for an app that did it! haha
actually it kinda messed my stuff up..when i unlocked it, the signal bars were on the bottom, and it turned wifi off and i guess turned the radio on, then gave me a black screen and somewhat froze lol
Thanks for the info.
Im planning on installing the tablet in my cars dash. They make a dash bezel/trim thing that will hold a 7 inch tablet/gps and looks like a factory item.
I was worried of pop-ups etc... when I use the device as gps navigation but seems I can get around it.
Do all flyers have GSM phone capability or only certain models do? Does anyone know?

Most do not only certain (more expensive) versions.

if you buy a 3G/Wifi version and put a sim card in it, yes

That sounds awesome. Links to product?
I also would like that link. I've seen a few ways to do it, but this is one of my primary reasons for wanting a 7" tablet, to eventually disassemble it and make it into a head unit.
If you check ebay and search "your car here" navigation. See what pops up for dash kits for your car.
I have a soul so I cant say whats out there for other cars, but I bought one like this

That's a pretty interesting idea. The one for my car is a bit too pricey and doesn't integrate as well as for the soul. My idea was to get a car PC doubledin chassis and basically use the tablet as a front end and build a decent amp into the extra space. But their method is much easier. Although for the price and look in my car and the fact that you lose the ability to take the tablet with you I'd say I'll just get a dash mount. Have one for my epic and it works well enough.

can any of you guys tell me how the experience was with buy.com? I posted this on the deal thread but since someone here bought some then maybe its better to ask here.
What was the overall condition of the device and what was included? I am thinking about picking up one since there back to 199.00 again.

I bought it from buy.com for 200.
Came pretty quick, they used fed-ex
Tablet came in a white box, marked as refurbished. In it was just the tablet wrapped in bubble wrap and the AC adapter.
Tablet looked like new, It didn't have any scratches or other marks anywhere. Wasn't even fingerprint marks all over it.
It worked fine as well, booted up quick. Just had to set the time and was good.

It's highly doubtful. The brand new ones don't even come with the Scribe. With the exception of some limited, retailer specific deals, the Scribe has always been a separate accessory.
I agree buy.com has done good by me. $200 for a flyer is a google. Check out eBay for a pen. 2$20 to $30.

So I got the V10 a few weeks ago, love it way more than my old Note 3 and more than i would have loved the Note 5 i was considering. Few questions though:
1. When is Verizon gonna release a software update for the fingerprint case fix?
2. Morst importantly, is there a way I can change an app's notifications to force them to the second screen? (Yes I'm talking about you, Google Messenger.) Like a third-party app or something maybe.
3. Any non-root way to customize the soft key buttons, like to different logos or something?
4. IR Blaster- seems to me its got a range of like 8 feet. Which works fine in my room, but when I try to change the channel in the dining hall, it doesnt have the range of my Note 3. Any way to increase the range?
I'm new to this site so sorry if i broke any rules by posting multiple questions in one post, just looking for some help. Thanks to anyone who can help me out a bit!

I am coming from the Galaxy S5. I am looking for a app to help with my notifications also. I LOVE me led notifications. I usually won't even get a phone without that but wanted to try this phone. I like the phone but I am really missing that. I heard a little about light flow but don't know much about it.

Hi Nick,
I can't help with 1, 3 & 4 ... but as for your second question; My Notifications have automatically just appeared on the 2nd Screen as they come in. I did play around with the 2nd Screen Options in Settings, and there are more options in there as well.
After reading a lot about this phone here and on other forums, it seems there's a big operational difference between Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and the others - ESPECIALLY ON THIS PHONE - so as you keep searching for answers (as I have) try to figure out if the post is from a user with the same network you're on.
Had the phone for about a week now. (Verizon)
Today i tried to activate wifi calling...no good. Factory reset the phone thinking maybe it was an app..still nothing.
I have also noticed that over the past couple of days, the phone has been getting more and more laggy. Not many apps on the phone at all. No different than the apps on my V20 which never really had a lag issue. The phone seems to struggle as well when opening messaging or opening a url from an email...sometimes it will not even load the page. It just stays on the current page that chrome already had open.
Starting to feel like there are some bugs LG needs to fix..
Im swapping the phone out this weekend for another one...Main reason for the swap is the phone not activating wifi calling..that def seems like a hardware issue.
Not sure if anyone else has noticed but if you have the brightness on 100% or any brightness for that matter, if you look at the phone from any angle besides straight at it, it gives the whole screen a blue tint...Samsungs do not do that with their oled panels.
Symptom of the Poled?
Anyone else experiencing annoying bugs with the phone??
Settings/Developer Options/tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make the beast smoother faster. if root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! If LG G6 gets Android 7.1.2 , the performance should improve smoother over Android 7.0 just like the LG V30 is incredibly smooth and fast due to SD 835. Android Oreo 8.0 should have faster boot times on powering up. LG flagships gets Oreo by the end of this year (November or December)
I noticed Wifi calling didn't turn on right away. It said it was working on it and it took a little bit, maybe 10-15 minutes before it actually said it was activated. I have not noticed any tint issue when viewing the phone from an angle
Dump chrome, install Samsung browser apk. With the crystal add blocker. Eliminate animation scale to .5, install a different launcher. Text for me with Verizon message+ works really well, live the pop up window so I can reply without closing the app I'm in. Truly the phones not lagged" me at all. Love the speed, hate the screen protector issues but phones doing great and I got it Oct 5th.
Dont have those issues, but did notice a little process when first booted to get wifi calling settled in. Had to confirm a prompt of some sort and wait a bit.
I havent had any of those issues, mine have been the wifi always dropping at home and my camera seeming like its fuzzy with the pictures I take.
Thanks guys...had developer options opened and changed those settings already...going up the road today to get it switched out so wifi calling can work...hopefully that solves the issue
Wifi calling works fine on mine. Any issues so early, exchange phone

Samsung OTOH goes to green or pink tint. You don't fool us.
I have two V60s and I noticed that the AOD brightness of one is always bright and the other is always dim no matter what I do. I am running A11 on both phones. I have gone into the AOD display settings and tried to toggle the brighter AOD on and off and it does nothing on both phones. Any one else experience a non-changeable AOD brightness? Any workarounds or solutions?
I solved the problem. It is related to the dreaded fingerprint reader bug. I turned off the fingerprint reader to unlock the screen and all is working perfectly normal.
Really hoping LG fixes the fingerprint issue.
Thank you for coming back to post your solution. It's shocking how many folks will just edit in a "NM I solved it" and not post their solution!
Do you have any more information and the "dreaded fingerprint reader bug?" I've been experiencing some lock screen/AOD issues that actually started maybe a week before Android 11 was deployed by AT&T, and persisted after the A11 upgrade AND a factory reset after that. I haven't had the chance to really troubleshoot it, because it's more of an inconvenience than a dealbreaker, but was eyeballing Nova Launcher or my dynamic live wallpaper as possible trouble points.
Regarding the fingerprint reader bug:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LGV60/comments/m8h4dm
This is upsetting because I sent in a G8 that had some issues for two year warranty and got back a phone that seems crippled by software issues. I really hope LG fixes as they promised support after mobile business shut down.
Interesting, thanks for posting that. I installed the CPU Monitor app that a bunch of users there posted screenshots of, and I'm watching the 8x CPUs update every second or so. Very rarely all 8x spin up to 100% (when I first unlock my phone, for example), but the majority of the time, they hover between 29% - 38%. I have my fingerprint sensor on for both the lock screen and certain apps secured via biometrics (bank, password manager, MFA apps, etc). I'm not sure what "normal" should be, but high 20s to 30s seems reasonable? I've been monitoring on and off for the past few minutes, and at no point did my CPUs remain at a sustained 100%. Not even close.
Then again, the two threads I read through from your link were both from around a month ago, and I think AT&T released an update since then (their second A11 software update, IIRC, bumping the Android security patch up to March 1, 2021). So perhaps the most recent AT&T software update fixed whatever that issue that they were experiencing? It doesn't appear that either thread has seen any new activity in at least a month or so. I believe that the comments in one of the threads also mentioned that this wasn't an issue with T-Mobile or Verizon's version of A11. So if it was an AT&T issue, it's possible that the March 1, 2021 security patch update quietly fixed it.
Edit - I meant to post this earlier, but I have noticed that since the A11 update, that auto-brightness doesn't work as consistently as it used to. The problem, in my experience, is that things remain too dim. My temporary fix has been to pull down the notification shade, toggle auto-brightness off, then turn it right back on. That seems to reset the brightness to a comfortable level and re-enable auto-brightness. At least for a while. The auto-brightness will eventually die again. I usually have to do this once or twice a week. Annoying, for sure, but I don't know of any other solution. I reboot my phone around once a week, and that doesn't seem to help. I also did an immediate factory reset after upgrading to A11, but the problem persists even after a fresh set-up. It definitely was not an issue on A10. I figure it's an A11 bug and hope it'll be quashed eventually.
If your CPU is changing percent loaded then you are good. Temps in the 20s and 30s are also appropriate.
I have two TMobile variants with the fingerprint bug on A11. The latest TMobile update was only a security patch update.
I have reached out to LG on Facebook, Twitter, and Voice of Customer hoping they will address this issue.
Good luck!
I eagerly installed the Dec 2021 update on my Pixel 6 a couple of weeks back - hoping to improve the FP pass rate.
But I am convinced its gotten worse.
It seemed better at first - but soon deteriorated...
Since the update, whilst it still unlocks on the 1st attempt occasionally, I am finding far more instances where it completely fails to recognise my FP and I am forced to put my PIN number in to unlock.
Prior to the update, it would unlock more often on the 1st attempt - otherwise it may have taken 2-3 attempts to unlock and very rarely I would have to enter the PIN.
Same here! adding more of the same finger did not help!
It was better or about the same from 13/12 until 25/12, and now I hardly can use it. have to enter password all the time.

I am not sure where you are located geographically, but in the northern hemisphere it is now winter. As such the overall humidity levels (particularly indoors) tends to be very low and skin is drier. What you may be seeing is your skin seasonally drying out - and the P6 is terrible at reading dry fingerprints.

I think his point was that there are a half dozen FPR threads already and another is not really needed. Why not find an older one and update that? Wouldn't that make more sense?
Worst FPR ever put on a phone
Ok this is beyond a joke now. Why in the hell would these morons remove face unlock only to add the absolute worst fingerprint reader I've ever dealt with on any phone I've ever owned. I never thought I'd consider going back to pin unlock...
