Hello! I'm new here and I don't know where to write about it. So, I have atrix and laptopdock. Also I have Tegra2Ubuntop there and everything worked very well. But now, when I insert my atrix into dock I see..... standard desktop!!! When I type sudo gpaint or sudo dosbox these programs doesn't start. That is to say all my programms damaged. Although I can see old folders such as lxdepanel or lxde. File manager show me these directories: 1) adas ; 2) desktop ; 3)MOT ; 4) 9.8 GB Volume; 5)SD/MMC Drive, But I don't see directory OSH. Before it, I tried to run ubuntu linux. I followed by instructions from Complete Linux installer. I think I damaged webtop (which is on my flash card) by using android terminal. (While I tried to run Linux) What I should to do? Please HELP ME !
P.S. Hope you understand me.
Sbf?

Yup. Or there was a project called simoletop, is original webtop with minimal changes. You could flash it and kibda of start over

hm sorry for my english... But I said that I have laptop dock station with Tegra2Ubuntop. And had installed Complete Linux Installer from market and followed this instructions. (Run linux on your phone) And then destroy osh directory (I guess) And I must install Tegra2Ubuntop again, right?

You've said in both posts something to the effect of a damaged/destroyed/edited /osh partition. Start with the basics. Flash the sbf, then test your phone on the lapdock to ensure it works. Then work from there and rebuild your device the way you want it.

only one note. My atrix and webtop work well (but the last with the standard environment) "Flash the sbf" - Now I'm really afraid to destroy my atrix. But the main thing I understood - I should reinstall it.

Sbfs aren't that scary if you are using the ones made for your region. But yes, reinstalling is the end result

ok, I have linux on my PC and when I connect my atrix I can get access to osh. I have 16 Gb flash drive and I think to format osh into ntfs. So I will have flash card 16Gb volume. (ntfs) (now it's 9.8 gb ntfs and 4 gb osh). And try to reinstall again
Good luck with NTFS. Honestly, it seems you don't really know what you're doing and you're about to make your situation even worse. But I could be wrong.
hmm.... you are right! I'm not sure with it. So I try to get a good advice from xda
Ok, let me recap to see if we are missing something here.
First of all, do not touch the /osh partition in any way other than flashing something. You wil break a lot of things if you do so and maybe end up with a nice, hi-tech battery powered paperweight.
Now. You said that linux on android destroyed your webtop yet somehow you can load it up..?
Third: is very unlikely that s tool designed for all kind if android phones just smashed through an very rare(as in only two devices of the thousands) partition thats not standard.
If you installed ubuntop, what prevents you from installing it again?

If I understood right, so.... Yes, I can run webtop. Open PDF, launch Firefox and so on. (But it's not a TegraUbuntop! just standart environment)
Second, It's my supposition that Complete Linux Installer (exactly android terminal) has destroyed /osh.
I must to confess.... the other guy has installed Ubuntop, not me.
And now I have Android 2.3.6 with Webtop 1.3 but If I install (flash) android 4.x ICS so, I have webtop 3.0 . But what's better? Reinstall ubuntop or install android 4x ICS ? Or you have other ideas?
Aaaaaahhhh
Now I get it. Ubuntop was installed on a second partition on the external sd card, that's why you can load the original webtop, because is in internal sdcard partion.
You got 3 options.
1) Remove linux on android (which also uses external sdcard's second partition, that's why your ubuntop got overwritten) and install ubuntop again (using webtop2sd, all the info is in the forums).
2) Upgrade to atrics (or icsrom) which is the only firmware that has webtop 3.0. Beware, because webtop 3.0 is only android with a tablet interface, not a linux fesktop as original webtop.
3) keep the original webtop and linux4android

I know about it. But it seems quite dangerous. I can destroy my atrix.
And I can't use Complete Linux Installer because it doesn't work. (something wrong with it) So I have standart webtop
But I'd prefer 1 option. (in my view, it's more safety) But what I should to do with /osh? It's already exist! (and takes 4gb) In my opinion, I should clean it. I mean format it into ntfs (fat32) and only then try to reinstall ubuntu. What can you advice?
So your device is broken and you want to fix it, but you don't actually want to do anything because everything is scary and looks dangerous?
Come one dude, get over yourself. Either you want to fix it or you don't. You've been given plenty of advice, now quit whining and do something about it.

it's my last question. And then I'll act
It looks like you need to learn URGENTLY about filesystems, mounts and mountpoints, before you destroy everything. Your /osh is most definitely NOT 4GB in size, what you're looking at is another part of the filesystem (could be anywhere but is most likely on your external SD card) that just happens to be attached to /osh.
hm ok. By the way, I'll use webtop2sd, but webtop has been already transferred to external Sd card! What I need to do? Ext3 already exist. And if I insert new Sd card?

Webtop2sd has already been transferred? Ok then why are we still dealing with this issue? You chose a method given by andresrivas, now finish setting up your webtop setup. And what do you think will happen if your phone is setup to read something from an sd card, and suprise! The sd card isn't there? Hint - file not found ring a bell? This is really basic stuff and you're turning it into an "i'm a noob and wants everyone else to fix my mistake and do the legwork to get info to my questions" session.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
Just skip the webtpo2sd setup and carry on to next step.
Do not touch the osh partition on internal sd.
You should read about how linux mounts storage devices onto the filesystem so you can get an idea about what's going on there and act accordingly

Until now I was testing Remix on a flash drive, most of the stuff is running great, so I think it's time to try it on the HD.
So here's the question, it's possible to install RemixOS on HD without create partition?
I want Remix to be installed in a regular folder in my HD, with an option to select it in the OS selector when PC starts, and I want it to use data.img instead of something else... Basically just like Phoenix OS.
Is this possible?
Thx..
Cheers...

dude, all you need to do is to look on jide's web
For Hard Disk Installation:
NOTE: Currently, installation tool only supports Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10, with a minimum capacity of 8GB. Users of other operating systems, please install on USB flash drive.
1. Download the Remix OS for PC package, which contains the Remix OS for PC ROM & Installation Tool.
2. Open the Remix OS Installation Tool and follow the instructions to install Remix OS for PC on your hard disk.
3. Reboot your PC.
NOTE for UEFI boot: press special key (F12 for Dell, F9 for HP, F12 for Lenovo, Option Key for MAC) while booting to enter boot menu and ensure that Secure Boot is disabled.
4. Select Remix OS in Windows Boot Menu.

Thanks, I already saw this...
But in this guide it's not clear what the installation tool will do, if it will create partitions, if it will format something etc... Take the USB installation as an example, I never thought it would create 3 partitions on it...
That's why I'm asking this... Besides, I saw many people unable to boot into Windows after some sort of HD installation of Remix.
Have you tried this method of installation?
If yes, how is the structure of the directory, what files are in there, is it using data.img?
Cheers...

The hard drive installation will create a folder called "RemixOS" and add a boot entry for it in the Windows boot loader. In that folder is the kernel, initrd.img, system.img, menu.lst and some other files. An 8 GB data.img will be created on first boot. Those who have problems with booting are typically using a third-party method to install it.

It appears that for the issue mentioned in the link you posted the solution is to simply disable Secure Boot. I don't have much experience with UEFI myself, but on a BIOS system the installer worked perfectly, it didn't break either Windows or Linux Mint.

Fortunately (I hope) I'm on BIOS as well, cause I heard somewhere that disabling secure boot prevents Windows to boot. I don't know if it's a Windows requirement on UEFI machines...

I expanded the data.img using this tutorial (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/android-tp2/138623-how-get-bigger-data-img.html). Don't mind the fact that it was originally made for Windows Mobile devices running Android on SD card, the concept is the same (add zeros to the end of data.img, then expand the partition table in the data.img to cover the extra space).

And does it take too long to boot? I'm asking this because I expanded the data.img of Phoenix OS, and since then it takes a lot more time to boot.

nope, as long as your data.img is much smaller than your actual harddisk, you will have no problems with speed.
yes, the instalation tool asks you what size you want to use, either 8, 16 or 32 GB can be chosen

Hi,
I have been using Remix OS for weeks now. It is an amazing operating system. I have tried Linux and Mac as an alternative for Windows, and only Remix OS made me use use it as my main OS. I would keep it as my main OS but I have this major annoyance with the latest version. For some reason, I could not access my secondary hard drive. This sucks because that's were I keep all my files and downloads. If someone could please post a working guide on how to enable it, I would be very thankful.
Thank you.
I'm currently using StickMount & works perfect, except for one thing... SD Maid: I don't know to do to the System Cleaner section not recognize the other partitions... tried adding them to the exclusions but does'nt work, I can only unmount then remount.

I updated my Remix OS hdd installation today and recognized that all external (read: non Remix OS) partitions got automounted. I now lots of people asked for easy access to their windows partitions from within Remix OS, but I would prefer to keep things seperated.
Is it possible to disable the "access to other files and folders" in general or at least to stop automounting those partitions?
Thanks in advance
Martin
auto-mount is even tried for non-ntfs partitions
I am running Remix OS 3.0.102 in a dual boot system together with Ubuntu. While signing on the auto-mount function says already that there are two "corrupted" ext4 partitions beside one NTFS drive. After signing on the NTFS drive has been mounted automatically, while the Remix-OS partition "Android-x86" and the Ubuntu partition are called "corrupted" - probably because they are formatted with ext4.
I think, showing partitions which can't be opened in Remix OS doesn't make sense, especially if they are shown together with a dangerous offer "Touch to fix". There should be a way telling Remix OS which partitions are interesting and which should be mounted automatically.

You are writing of "option to turn off the mount partition feature". What I would prefer is an option to select the partitions which you want to mount (and which not). Another option should be: manual mount / automatic mount of the partitions which you want to mount.

That's what we have at the moment; Yes they are auto-mounted but they can be ejected via that Storage & USB screen. Maybe add a lock button on that screen so it isn't remounted on reboot.
If the corrupted message is due to the system trying to treat all partitions as fat/ntfs/exfat then that should be fixed [I'd run e2fsck on those partitions just to make sure they aren't actually corrupt].
And to answer the OP [this question has been asked and answered before]; you disable the service MediaScannerService from the Media Storage system app.

2)...i assume this is a stable release as i see it on your site, and thank you for using the latest Android-x86 RC2, the system has significantly improved, more stable, fluid , but the ads on the start menu still cripples system RAM(this is for funding purposes, the advertisements, so no need/wont complain any further)
3)....for futur releases, can u please or is there a way that Proxy SET-UP can be done for Ethernet connections?...include this somehow if within your future plans!
4)I tried the GameKITtool, IMO its still same as in the previous v3.0.104, nothing "seems' to have being changed, also nothing bas broken, still works marvellously, but lacks the previously made requests for 100% game controll compatibility!
5)overall system perfomance and stability is greatest, and thank you for including previously requested features into the sytem/update!
6..........for linux users that installed RemixOS, and thus obviously never installed using the Jide Installer, either wont be able to get OTA?
based on this? "OTA support disabled if software was NOT installed by official Jide installer"

Hi, can I hide the bootloader text once installed? Like the grub text and such? And always select Resident? Thanks

While I do not remember precisely what needs to be done, you need to edit "grub.cfg", which should be on the root of the flash drive (you'll need to somehow mount the partition as writeable).
The Arch Wiki may help you out, just search for "grub arch wiki".
A note: You will not be able access the partition from Windows, without 3rd party tools, so it's better to just use Linux for this.

Dont worry about it, It's the same procedure, regardless of the storage hardware.
