If you're already rooted on 35b this should work:
*download the twrp img file from here... https://dl.twrp.me/vs985/
*download the ROM you want to flash and proper Gapps(these are Gapps for 7.1.0 and 7.1.1: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=124631 ; if you need different gapps for MM or LP roms try googling open gapps)
*using an app like Rashr from the play store, find the twrp file in your storage and install the recovery .IMG and reboot into recovery when it asks
*make a backup of your current setup in case something goes wrong(backup cache, system, data)
*wipe cache, dalvik, system, data
*install new ROM and gapps
*reboot
If this procedure doesn't work on 35b I do apologize. Its what I did on 10b, 12b, and one of the MM variants - just not on 35b. Pretty much, if you have root, you should be able to use an app to get twrp installed and after that you're good to go.

Then you'll need to tot back to 10b, use the stumproot apk for root, and follow the instructions I posted from the point where I mention rashr and flashing the twrp img.
Follow these instructions closely for tot flash... https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/restore-verizon-to-stock-t2827878

They are in 7zip format so you need to unzip them 1st.
On the flash tool the DLL file goes into the upper section and tot file goes into the lower one.

[STOCK] Sprint LG G3 LS990 ZVA TOT, OTA and .IMG's

ZVA TOT is out!
Thanks, once again, to our anonymous donor we now have the ZVA TOT. I have also broken down the TOT and uploaded the individual partitions which can be flashed if rooted and custom recovery(TWRP) is installed. Speaking of root it seems the Download Mode root still works with some modifications that l33tlinuxh4x0r figured out... check his thread out for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/one-click-root-zva-t3141390
Changelog:
Factory Reset Protection
--TOT (*.zip) can be downloaded *HERE*
Flash this TOT using the same method as ZV4/ZV6/etc. You will need to select "Board DL" in LG Flash, otherwise you will get stuck. After the TOT flashes it will reboot your phone into the "MiniOS".. unplug the USB cable and press and hold the power button on the phone then press on the "Normal Boot" option on your phones screen. You are now on stock ZVA.
--Individual ZVA partitions to flash manually can be downloaded *HERE*
*disclaimer -- you can mess your phone up if you do not know what you're doing*
Also, you may need a "bump'd" stock boot.img if you are still running on the old KK bootloader. See my post HERE for a bump'd boot.img.
The ZVA bootloader blocks Bump... do not flash the bootloader img files if you want to use Bump'd files. If manually updating I'd suggest system.img, boot.img, modem.img, tz.img and rpm.img.
To manually flash a partition in TWRP use ADB shell or TWRP's built in terminal to enter the following commands after placing the files on your internal sdcard (changes to commands will be needed if file names change or location of img files changes):
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot
dd if=/sdcard/modem.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem
dd if=/sdcard/rpm.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/rpm
dd if=/sdcard/tz.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/tz
(be sure to wipe data in TWRP [wipe button > swipe slider] if coming from an "AOSP-type" rom)
--ZV8-to-ZVA OTA update.zip *NOTYETAVAILABLE*
Anyone have the OTA link? I will assume the manual steps to update w OTA zip still work but as I do not have the phone someone will need to confirm... the steps for zv6 -> zv8 are below and should work the same with zv8 -> zva
You must be on ZV8 and have a stock recovery and stock system partition for this to work.
Directions:
1. Rename downloaded .zip into update.zip
2. Remove USB cable from phone.
3. Power phone off.
4. Press and hold volume down + power until you boot into stock recovery.
5. Select "update with adb"
Code:
adb sideload update.zip
Alternate Directions to skip using ADB (needs microSD card):
1. Format microSD card as EXT4.
2. Rename downloaded .zip to update.zip
3. Move update.zip onto external SD card. EZ way would be to stick SD card in phone then connect phone to PC and use MTP.
4. Power off and boot into stock recovery (vol down + power)
5. Select the Update from SDCARD option.
Alternate Directions to skip using ADB (must have root):
1. Stick OTA zip file in the /cache directory
2. Power off and boot into stock recovery (vol down + power)
3. Select the Update from cache option... then select the update zip you placed in /cache

So I've got most of the zip built but I keep running into boot problems. I'm getting past the error when you turn the device on and it's about the boot img not being bumped. So I used the one from the old post. Starts to boot fine but device then goes to LG Security Error. Amy idea?

I tried installing the system, modem, rpm, and tz images but I get a "Security Error" at boot... I already had the modified boot.img from before.

I'll just put this here. It's not quite ready, but should be in the next couple days

Twrp installed or not

few days before i restart my phone into recovery mode as a result my entire data go deleted as it factory reset my phone (first time i have noticed that by entering recovery mode phone got factory reset)
however now i have managed to installed twrp but now scared into recovery mode as i am not sure it was successfully installed or not.. IF NOT then again my phone will be factory reset
kindly any one let me know how do i check that my phone has TWRP or not
First, more information. What version of the stock ROM are you on (10B, 12B, etc) and what way did you install TWRP?
You can always use the superuser terminal commands in @bweN diorD 's stickied thread in General to pull an .IMG of your currently installed recovery, then you can use am Android app like @scary alien 's AFV / Android File Verifier to check the MD5 hash of what you pulled and compare it to the MD5 of what you flashed.
10b and used twrp manager from playstore
The rest of process u mentioned was gone above my head.. Kindly let me know easy way any software which cal tell me twrp installed or not

There's no other way other than what I told you unless TWRP Manager reports what's installed. TWRP Manager has never failed to install TWRP for me on any ROM that's supported, which includes 10B, not sure about 12B, but definitely not any newer, 23C, 24B or 35B. If you're on 10B, you installed TWRP Manager, gave it root permissions and told it to install TWRP for the VS985 I wouldn't have any doubt that it worked. I've done it in that same scenario several times.
To clarify not working on 23C and above, it will actually install TWRP just fine on any of them. You just either won't be able to use it, or you won't be able to boot the ROM after, or both, because of the secure boot error, but that has nothing to do with TWRP itself.
@bender_007 's autorec app will install an older version of TWRP just fine on 23C or 24B. The one in the Play Store is ONLY for 23C and if you expand the description of the app, he gives a link to his XDA thread in the non-Verizon G3 General section, where has separate versions for 23C and 24B. Once you use his app on 23C or 24B, you can flash the latest version from the older version.
Can confirm about autorec, I used it on version 24B to install TWRP, but I accidentally installed it in 35B and got the secure boot error. I was able to boot to recovery right before that however, so if this happens to you, you can boot to TWRP using the Volume Down + Power button trick to get into custom recovery and choosing "Factory data reset" which won't delete your data, and connect your phone to a PC to move your stuff out before restoring it.
Anyway, if you're comfortable with ADB I have successfully flashed TWRP with these instructions

Soft Brick via Xposed install

So I have a rooted vs985 without twrp and had been reading a couple threads on how to install Xposed without having a custom recovery and after trying the methods I read about on here and them not working happened to see an app on the play store called terminal installer: Xposed. I ran the app, all seemed well when I realized that I didn't have root access anymore and SuperSU was saying that I needed to update the su binary, after a couple failed attempts to update the binary(normal) I decided to reboot and maybe try to update the binary again. After rebooting the black LG screen with blue and green flashing light(like usual) it then rebooted and black LG screen with no lights this time appears and then the android robot laying down with the red exclamation point above him comes up and that's as far as I can get. Tried every option in the stock recovery and still the same outcome(black screen with dead android)
I realize I'm probably going to need to kdz or tot to fix this issue, I'm on 35b and need to recover my files on internal storage if possible- How would I go about doing so, and being on 35b what are the best options for restoring 35b hopefully getting my files and downgrading to install twrp???
Flash the 10B TOT using the .DLL extracted from the 35B KDZ. You can get both from my Android File Host link at the bottom of the first post of @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section, also in my signature below.
You'll have to Google for the Windows software and directions to flash. It'll wipe your days including internal storage.
Then root with the Stump app, use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to flash TWRP, reboot to custom recovery. Use an app or if you do it from having the phone off, select Wipe Cache from the stock looking recovery to load TWRP.
Flash the ROM and appropriate bootstack (35B Bootstack for a 35B or higher ROM), then optional debloat zips, Google for Xposed Marshmallow (even if you want for Lollipop) and download the right Xposed zip to flash from recovery.
Once you have your ROM set up to your liking, make a backup in TWRP and keep it in your external Micro SD card in case you have to forfeit the contents of your internal storage again like in this situation.

Thanks for the information bud! Ok so I just use LG flash tool, use 10b tot and DLL file from the 35b kdz and that's it? When I reboot my phone it will be wiped and running stock 10b(why is the 35b DLL file used? Is it what enables us to downgrade from 35b to 10b properly?) And after that Stump root and twrp manager and that's it right? I have a friend bringing his laptop over this morning so I can get my phone booting again(I've been without a phone since Thursday due to this) will let you know how it goes!!! Thanks again

Substitute "at all' for "properly". In order to downgrade from stock 35B or higher, you need the 35B .DLL. There was an earlier .DLL which worked fine until 35B came along.

Help: Sitting in TWRP, No OS, No backup.

I'm currently sitting at TWRP and was going to restore my backup... it's gone. I was going to reboot to OS... TWRP warns me I have no OS installed.
In my tired state trying to solve an unrelated problem I must have killed my backup a few hours ago without noticing and then decided to use TWRP to format my phone so I could restore my backup... that I previously killed.
What can I do from this state? My brain is fried from hours of trying various troubleshooting threads across the internet and I'm just at a loss how to install the OS again without bricking and I don't want to make a mistake.
Appreciate the help. I do have US998820e_02_0910.kdz downloaded on my PC which is the latest KDZ I have downloaded.

I feel that's not correct... could I not use LGUP or copy over a basic backup provided by someone here just to get me back to point where I can get back to stock?

Lol, that's what I thought... But I'm also very tired.
Can I just copy over my KDZ and then install via TWRP? I've always just used backups in the past.
This is a secondary phone that was wiped before anyways so I haven't lost anything important.... The backup was only there to speed things up.
If you are in TWRP, connect to PC and drag over your firmware TWRP flashable zip and Magisk. And whatever else you need, maybe encryption disabler, root check disabler. With Oreo TWRP flashable zip (since you have US998), all you need is the zip file and Magisk.
In TWRP file explorer, find location where you just copied them. Then install them.

LOL... I wasn't opposed to starting fresh... that was my ultimate goal, but I've not been in this exact situation before as I've always kept my backups. Being tired and in a hurry was my downfall this time. I just didn't want to go any further without proper advice as I was worried about bricking and just wanted to double make sure I wouldn't do that on my next attempt to "fix" it alone.

Yes, TWRP flashable zip is available for his US998 phone.
See post above.

No, don't copy over KDZ. Copy over the TWRP flashable zip version of the KDZ.
See my post above. I give download link to latest Oreo US998 TWRP flashable zip. Also Magisk. I attached that to the post. Flash both, then reboot.
Hey, at least you now have a VERY clean install! This is the technique some people do on purpose to start fresh.

There are basically several options here.
If you can still boot into fastboot or even TWRP there's nothing to fear. It's really hard to completely brick a phone anyways.
So as suggested either use a flashable kdz (you can even adb sideload it to avoid the copying) or just flash (or sideload) any other ROM. Good luck

I feel that's not correct... could I not use LGUP or copy over a basic backup provided by someone here just to get me back to point where I can get back to stock?

Connect the phone to the computer, and push a stock TWRP zip to the device and flash it. If you have an ad card port on the PC, then push it to the SD card and put it in the phone.

NM, saw my man @ChazzMatt using his forum superhero Powers again.
Download any zip of your choice and reboot. Then let Google backup restore your apps and settings.
Running into a new issue... after flashing 20H TWRP and Magisk I rebooted the phone. Android OS did it's first install and I made it to the setup screen... then while I was typing in my wifi password the phone simply shut down (played the shutting down LG logo animation). I turned the phone back on and same results... after loading to the Android setup screen around 1 to 15 seconds later the phone shuts down again. Phone has never done this before.
Any thoughts?
I'm not sure if it matters, but this was originally a US Verizon V30 that I unlocked and rooted following the guides here which "converted" to a US998.

I've attached Magisk 18 to this post. You can update after you reboot to system. (TWRP 18.X is friendlier with Oreo TWRP-FLASHABLE zips.)

Okay I think I know what the problem is... you may have to flash 20, F, g, H all back-to-back. Then reflash Magisk
Or flash the full 20h KDZ in LGUP , reinstall TWRP and reflash the three root files. Your choice.
The problem is there were so many changes between 20e and 20H with the TWRP flashable zips that you have to flash them all back to back to get the full firmware.
You can stack them in TWRP and flash them all at the same time followed by magisk.
lol... okay... I'll get to downloading, lol. Any recommended custom ROM suggestions? lol

Sorry, no, I'm still running rooted stock firmware. But others who use custom ROMs may have suggestions for your gaming issue, mentioned in your PM.
Check this out below and see if it helps you any.

I downloaded and installed ROM 20E from this thread under older zips.... https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-fw-us99820e-twrp-zip-t3868415
still doing the same behavior. First boot Android does setup, then if I let it sit a few seconds it shuts down and reboots, gets to Android and then shuts down again... over and over.

Okay, think it's working. Having looked through the ROM maker's thread Magisk v18 is... needed? I previously installed a newer version (v19.2) which can cause this boot loop issue.... I also installed the ROM without any Magisk which still caused the boot loop which is why I wasn't thinking Magisk was the issue.... but after trying 20H with v18 Magisk... no more boot loop. Go figure.

Well, glad you got it working.
But the Magisk thing is why I had specifically attached Magisk 18 to my first post in this thread and said to use it... I even explained why.
I assumed you were using it.

TWRP asks for password to decrypt data?

After I installed US99830b using LGUP - refurblish, and then flashed TWRP, when I boot into TWRP, it asked for data decypt password which I had no idea. I cannot flash any files in Data using TWRP. Please help!

You didn't follow instructions to install TWRP correctly.
LG Pie encrypts data and you have to disable that.
Reinstall TWRP the right way. See the US998 KDZ thread, post #1. There's a link to instructions for installing TWRP on unlocked bootloader Pie KDZ. Follow them, they are written for the order you need to do or you will have problems.

Thank you so much. I followed the instructions and now it's working fine. (I lost all data though)

Yeah, because you have to reformat data.
The TWRP-flashable zips already have that decryption removed, but for people who don't want to wait on TWRP-flashable zips (or their variant may not get one) to update to Pie, they have to follow these instructions to install or reinstall TWRP on Pie.
